[Q] Evil, Wrong & Immoral! - General Topics

Ok, maybe the title is a little over the top, but does anyone else feel that this is just a crime?
Selling HD2 Android Upgrade!
I'm sure HTC probably doesn't like it. And I'm double sure the people who have worked to create the tools to do would like their share if it's going to be sold.
Just my 2 cents.

If people are stupid enough to buy it who cares...

I agree with both posters so far. See some of the prices of phones on that site? Holy ****.

Have any of the actual developers commented on this yet, or have they been made aware?
I would hope that these IP thieves get what's coming to them, but sadly they'll probably be able to carry on profiting from other peoples work.

Geeting an HD2 and play around with your own Android installation is fine.
Selling HD2 with pre-installed Android orpaid Android installing service is a violation of ethics and moral.
Those price...it is criminal!!!
I hope the authority will do something against this kind of act.

Why hasnt Microsoft done anything about this site yet?

i mean, everything on this site is pretty much microsoft, which should create some copyright issues.
they are just happy to find a place where winmo doesn't get bashed constantly

LOL, your first post and you have a pop at this site?
You dont work for MS do you
GREAT first post.
anyway.
They tolerate it because we don't personally host anything and yes, we do make windows mobile better.
Also, this site actively opposes software theft, (warez and others like it,) which is the bulk of any copyright problems. It spreads goodwill towards Microsoft, believe it or not; if users have problems with standard Microsoft software, they don't have to just sit there and be unhappy, it can be tweaked. By doing so, people are happier with their Microsoft-driven equipment, and more likely to keep using it than changing to something else. There are countless people on this site who would tell you that without this site, they might not be using a Windows-driven phone.
It is also free tech-support for Microsoft, which saves them loads of money.
LOL duude...are u an attorney or do u own an iphone?
m$ knows better to keep this site alive. its their faults we are tweakin up and makin it better. beside...you never know...this draws a lot and i mean a lot of ppl towards m$. so i m pretty much sure the revenue keeps em' happy

One here!!!
microsoft never sold wm to any end user
and this site never taken part in porting wm to a device that dident came with it
more because of the close to impossibility of doing so
so as ms still get their licensense from the manufactors
and better rep with users who can get more out of their devices then just
depending on what the manfucators give before they forget about older devices
and move on to their new stuff
more wm phone owners keep getting new wm devices rather then moving to iphones or symbian devices so
it helps ms out alot in their quest of getting a larger % of the market
Plus, along with the free tech ehlp, the improving of current phones, we all know new htc phones will be tweaked cooked and stuff, so buy another phone. so XDA not only saves tehm money, but actually gains them money
It's because of this site that I'm looking at the Windows Mobile platform for my next phone rather than traditional Nokia, Sony Ericsson (other than x1), or even the iPhone..... actually come to think of it, without the exisitence of this site EVER, I would get an iPhone 3G right away.
you will see that in the coming future microsoft will be incorporating programs and devs that were created through this site to their platform. There was once a time when microsoft tried to shut it down when they realised that the site actually brings more people to microsoft and keeps them there.
LOL! I was going to post something else, but I'm pretty sure everybody has already said it, or thinks it! To much good comes from this site! Think about it, how many users of this site are now WM users for good and will always be sold on the next best WM platform because of this site.

Why haven't they done anything?
because nobody there is smoking crack
Would you close down a site that gets people talking about your products ? that is full of people writing programs that enhances the usability of your products? that's a great place to see some ideas you might steal for later versions of your OS.
This is free R&D!

Alas, I saw this differently with others. I think the question is very out of topic since this is an All-HTC-Devices forum, not an M$ WM forum. It's only 'coincidence' that after these years, HTC always used WM as their OS.
If HTC decided in the future that they will build their own OS, or maybe use Android, then it may trigger M$ to reconsider its stance against this forum. Especially, when we -as always- try to improve our experience with the devices, do it by porting some parts (drivers/softwares) from WM to other OS, or vice versa. Then the issue may be valid.
Btw, I don't know but do you all think it's safe -legally and/or morally- to port other vendor/ODM's part (drivers/softwares/etc) into our HTC devices? I ask this because I saw many attempts already...
I don't know the exact number of people on this site, but I do know that there are a whole lot of people on this site. My point for that last sectence is "would you destroy a site that has FREE workers helping your company out to better there products and gain more money"
Yes, we might receive applications before they are release, but honestly where do you really think we receive those from uuuummmm?
So again, if I was a big company I would never touch this site because I will pass my software to this site let eveyone play with it and then I would know where all the bugs are at. So then I will fix it and then sale it.
There might be alot of poeple on this site but I think MS has a lot more customers that don't even know that this site is even alive.
There you go my 2 cents.

and if the truth be known, they (M$) are happy that the masses dont know., in truth, the people on this site contain more knowledge and expertise than all of m$ combined as far as HTC handsets are concerned and how to tweak and tune the software to ACTUALLY work. it could be perceived as (truth) the Big companies are just mass clearing houses of useless data they can sell for a profit. how many of us came here for the first time only looking for useable software programs? how many of us came here for the first time trying to find a solution to an OEM problem?
M$ has found a truly unique forum in the world of r&d., although probably more out of frustration than than anything else, the majority of talented people here could teach this stuff to most of the employees at m$ about these devices and how they work and why.
I would be very surprised if they didnt have a staff of several people working there monitoring and testing to roms and software packages developed or tweaked through this site. they would have to be unbelieveably arrogant to think this is a bad thing for business, and we all know who one of the richest men and companies in the world is dont we. he didnt just fall off the truck so to speak, he understands..............economics!
With all of that in mind can anyone understand why pocket development is not possible on Visual studio express editions (free).
Isn't that a shoot on the foot? I think so.
I think that a platform with a lot of developers is much more appeling, and then seel more. Only a opinion from someone that will never buy a iphone.

Asphalt 7 leaked today

Ok i will say am sorry for the post, wait until Gameloft releases it on Google Play.
Am not innocent at all, but these "fanboys" sure is. Alot of yall edit and modify ppl apps and software call it your own, then your asking for donation off someone else original idea, then you all talk about piracy tssk give me a break plz.
That's cool, promote piracy.
And "it serves them right"?? Would you rather they release a buggy game? People would be even more pissed if they pay for the game and it doesn't work right. I swear to god, people and their self-entitled attitudes are a major part of what's wrong with the world today.
well to be fair they promised a 25th june release date, why promise when you can't deliver
they should have at least had it ready for the latest android quadcore devices,
have you ever experienced gameloft support, let me tell you now that it sucks bigtime.
edit:
asphalt 7 leak plays on sg s3 except the street/ground is white and htc one x is very laggy and unplayable in some areas
So because they miss their release date it's ok to steal from them? That is ridiculous. Clearly they were having issues. It's gotta be hard as hell making a game like that for Android considering all the different hardware it needs to work on. People need to be reasonable and not act like grade schoolers who's mommies told them they can't have a snack after school.

no i dont but am pissed and alot a ppl are when has Gameloft come out and said this was the situation, i havent seen where they did i been to gameloft forum, blog, their youtube vid trailer, twitter and facebook alot a ppl been asking them ? about the game did they once came out personally and say x y z no if it was ios i bet my money they would make a statement saying what was the situation or problem. 3rd party ppl who are saying this is the case is not good enough is like going to the doc and he send the nurse to check you up instead of doing his job. dont be releasing games if its not ready for both devices it feels unfair ppl feel emotional about this type of thing and takes it personal because when u look up to a company or person and they come up short for you thats what happened and knowing they came through and favor ios it sucks
how do we know that this wasn't some marketing strategy or apple paid gameloft a certain amount of money to keep the release from android for a certain amount of time,
all sides have to be looked at here, not "oh gameloft is defo innocent in this"
im not promoting piracy at all, I'm saying that I understand peoples frustrations, the game is absolutely stunning and I will be purchasing it on two of my devices as the price is so cheap, however I wouldn't blame anyone for downloading early
Sometimes it's really hard to deliver the product on time. Problems can happen, you know? Everything could happen, and sometimes a mistake in the last minute can ruin the whole project. I'm not saying that Asphalt 7 for Android is completely ruined, but that Gameloft are probably having difficulties with the Android release. I'm sure they are not delaying the release of the game on purpose, or because they want to tease the users, but because they are working to bring the best experience possible to users. I'm telling you this from experience - a small mistake can ruin everything.

now you see whats up someone decide to leak the game now, guess what Gameloft must be mad as how we were waiting on it serves them right. now they will loose on profits because i saw everyone swearing at them on youtube under the trailer ppl are pissed and they dont even come personally and say this is the situation a quick google can give you the link follow this user on twitter for the link @ChristoRJ thats where i got it :good:

Not only does this thread "glorifiy" piracy it also promotes the use of bad grammar and worst of all: the lack of punctuation (or at least a very stripped down version of punctuation).
It also shows a sense of entitlement that's really bad. I myself am waiting for an ICS rom from Samsung for my Galaxy tab, but that doesn't give me the right or justification to walk into a store a simply steal a tab.
The correct response, if you feel "cheated" or mislead by the companies promises is simple:
Don't buy the game if you don't like their policies or support. The effects for the manufacturer are the same (lost revenue) but at least you have the moral advanteage to you. Trying to use their support or policies as an excuse to piracy is just wrong: You're not entitled to own the game!

What points? You haven't made a valid one yet.
inb4 lock.
I'd just like to say that it's not right to pirate a game that costs a few bucks. As a matter of fact it's not really right to pirate anything (even though we all pirate music, for example). I will admit, I have pirated, in the past several games BUT only because they were PC games with a no-return policy that I wanted to try before buying. I did go back and pay for all of them though because I enjoyed them and I wanted to support the developers. But for a platform with a handful of great developers? You really shouldn't, especially when the games cost a few bucks and have a 15-minute refund window (and publishers and developers often will refund you even after those 15 minutes). We're not all angels, but we shouldn't be promoting piracy for the purpose of not paying.
Now, ethics and morals aside, promoting the piracy of a game that hasn't officially been released yet isn't good behavior, and discourages the developers and publishers from providing betas for consumers. It's easy developing for the iPhone because it's essentially one or two sets of hardware. Android has hundreds of different configurations. That's why it's not out yet. They probably have it working on a few devices, but not enough to consider it a stable release.

The First XDA Phone

Hello anyone reading this message.
My name is gregory. I am like most of you pretty pissed about the behavior of canonical (at least if you followed the ubuntu edge fund campaign http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge). What a lame way to make advertising. Of course, anyone with a bit of sense would smell the scam here, 32,000,000$ in a month? come on man!!! So here I am. I've been a flasholic for years and I think I came up with the idea of making my own cell phone about 3 years ago. fear, shyness and lack of funds made me drop the idea several time. But today we have the possibility to change the cell phone world together, thanx to canonical's lame way to advertise their OS. Basically here is my idea, Why not fund our own XDA phone? After all, many of us having problem or getting fed up with the slow updates of our phones are coming here to get things done. Most of us don't wait anymore for those big brands to update our devices. So why in the world are we waiting for them to build them. I've been around XDA for quite some times now and all I see here is a great mix of DEV. So correct me if i'm wrong. The dev on XDA are for most way faster and more reliable than the one at samsung, htc etc. the parts for the phones are all made in china for the most part, we all know some designers and the ubuntu edge crowfunding made it to 12,000,000 +. So here is my question to you people on XDA. Why don't we make our own phone the same way. Even 10,000,000 would be largely enough to make simply the best phone in the world. we could make a poll about each part and design in the phone, and i'm pretty sure the dev here would agree to make the device better. Not only because they will be pay for it, but because they love it. I am no business man, neither a develloper. I don't know code or anything in that matter. Now let me tell you my vision (and no i didn't take LSD for it)
imagines a phone with the latest specs like the edge. 128gb drive storage, 4gb ram, sapphire glass etc etc, it would be nice, but now imagine the same device with the XDA community back up, updates and corrections every 1 or 2 months, pushed straight to your phone without need of external program (kies, itunes or else... why is it call mobile phone if you need to have a computer to update it?), a minimum of 3 years updates, and of course, the ability to solve your problem here without having to talk with lame company commercials who would send your phone to korea just because they don't know anything about the product they sell. won't it be a dream? - more ideas are very welcome and that's why WE should do our own phone.
As I said, i'm not into the cell phone business, although I know some things about business in china, i'm no designer or dev, but i'm sure we could put up a pretty team from people here and make it happen. And when it's done, start a crowfunding. I know it would work because the name XDA alone stand for quality and improvement in our mobile world today. I have in mind that anyone willing to do that would succeed and I can't protect this kind of idea since i'm not the one who invent cell phone. but I also think the great thing with the xda community is that there is no lame boss or greedy stock sharers to decide what people should do or not. I'm hard working and if people think we should make it then i'm willing to work my ass, even travel (i'm from Paris, france not texas ) overseas to make this happen. here is the team i think we should put together to see this device built:
- people who knows the chinese technology market (where to buy and select company)
- DEV who knows about Android devellopment (maybe ubuntu or any other)
- designers ( let's try to make something more beautiful than the iphone )
- lawyers (I guess)
- commercials
any other ideas are welcome.
I opened this thread just to see your reactions on the subjects. it a little messy because i have so many things in my mind but feel free to argue, critisized, encourage, or just explain to us anything that comes in your mind. cheers

Any web design/developers out there?

So...I have an idea for something. And I don't know how to ask it properly. So I imagine the best way is to ask you guys here, and hope nobody steals the idea.
Or...somebody can tell me its already taken and then I can just move on and conjure up another idea.
So anyways. You know how Swappa exists? It seems like it began out of the BST area of xda forums. And now its this huge success it seems. Like if I want to buy or sell or a phone. Swappa comes before ebay, amazon or Craigslist now. It has the best fees, the best prices, and the best system to prevent fraud.
My question. Is there a swappa or something that ties together something like NeoGaf and video games?
And if not. Is there anyone out there who'd want to work with me to create this. Obviously this is a huge risk. I mean you could read this then run off with the idea. Or maybe it already exists. Or who knows.
BUt I think we could create something for gamers to buy and sell games. Without nonsense Ebay fees. Without craigslist worries. Without the nonsense of gamestop or best buy or their horrible trade values. Something where you can you tie your xda, neogaf, ebay, amazon account to your gapper (or w/e we would call it) account. And some kind of serial number system for consoles. Analytics.
But I was wondering if this idea doesn't exist. That anyone would want to try to make this thing happen. Maybe make it then kickstart it. Or work with NeoGaf(or other game sites) people or XDA people or swappa people.
I feel like this could be an awesome system that would , at the very least, sustain itself throughout this current console cycle of 4 or 5 years. I get that everyones going digital. But for now thats not the case.
Anyways. If you feel this makes sense. respond or message me or w/e. Lets see if we can make something awesome.

I won't buy another Blu device.

This phone has a lot of potential, but it will never be anything more. The reason I say this is because of Blu's business model, which I was unaware of when I bought the device. They do not have an R&D department. They are just middle men. Gionee makes most of their phones and they simply rebrand them. That is why they offer zero support. They can't. The don't have anything to do with the phone other than distribution. So there will never be upgrades to software unless Gionee makes it, but that probably won't happen because they are not in software development business. They primarily only make the phones, so support is not a major concern for them as well. Blu just constantly buys phones and throws them out there. There was this phone, which was quickly forgotten as they transitioned to their next phone, the VIVO 5. There was supposed to be an MM upgrade for this device. I don't believe they ever saw it. Now they are onto the ENERGY XL and the VIVO will be forgotten. They will never release any code or info on the phones, because they can't. They don't own it or have created it. They just middle man and rebrand. Hence, there will always be little to no development for any Blu device.
This has been covered many MANY times here on XDA... Maybe you could have done some reading before purchase. I for one dont make purchases without at least reading some reviews and seeing what other people have said about the company / service / product.
One would assume a member of the XDA community would have the forethought to do the same.
Thank You for your opinion, but this isnt the venue for venting about buyers remorse, there are sites like amazon for that.
If you dont like the software on the phone, learn to code, or buy another phone, but spouting all the hate and bile about a self professed rebranding reseller is neither helpful or productive, so lets keep this forum about moving forward, not about personal regrets you project onto a company.

No this may not be a site for buyers remorse, but it is a site about facts and the fact is BLU does not own anything and therefore can not produce updates, release code, stock roms, or anything else beneficial to development. Is that better? BTW, I did research this phone and the vast majority of reviews were positive.
And once again if you had done even a TINY bit of research about the brand, you would have known this... they do not try to hide this information... so once again I am TRULY SORRY you bought something you dont like, and I am VERY GLAD you have learned from the experience and have grown from it...
Learn to code and help out instead of complaining...
As far as positive reviews, I love the phone, using different launcher and exposed its good phone... dont know what your beef is with the company or the phone... they could have locked the boot loader or encrypted it to the point we cant even root it, but none of that has happened... so quit being a "negative Nancy" and look at the brightside

I can't code this phone and apparently not many can. There is no source code to work with that has been released and I don't have the time to reverse engineer this device. This site is about sharing information and if I can help some to not make the same mistake I did, then I have succeeded. So please don't shoot the messenger, BLU is who your issue should be with.
to shoot the messenger of this ancient news i'd need a musket... and also you wouldnt be one being shot, as this isnt even "news" its "olds"
There are A LOT of people that CAN code for this phone, we just only have 2 or 3 that are busy as hell, so we dont make much progress... once again if you want it served up on silver platter, learn to code, or put up some reward money (thats how we got root btw)
but "the airing of grievances" is for festivus not for xda, so quit banging that head on the aluminum pole
Once again, it is not a grievance only a warning to help others in making a decision about this device. There I have said it for the last time.
griev·ance
ˈɡrēvəns/
noun
a real or imagined wrong or other cause for complaint or protest, especially unfair treatment.
"failure to redress genuine grievances"
synonyms: injustice, wrong, injury, ill, unfairness; More
an official statement of a complaint over something believed to be wrong or unfair.
"three pilots have filed grievances against the company"
a feeling of resentment over something believed to be wrong or unfair.
"he was nursing a grievance"
"The reason I say this is because of Blu's business model, which I was unaware of when I bought the device."

REED MOAR...
Feed your head...
your major point seems to be "I bought a really well reviewed phone"
I did research this phone and the vast majority of reviews were positive.

And are upset no custom roms or updates available...
http://bluproducts.com/android-software-updates
kit kat is latest updates the advertise, you have lollipop but still arent happy, to the point you had to come on a community site who actually read, and like the phones they purchased...just to bad mouth and spout negativity toward a phone that most people who purchased are very happy with (hence the plethora of positive reviews you mentioned.)
this isnt a place to vent your personal experiences about a uninformed purchase you made (nor is it a place for me to decide ANYTHING, i AM NOT a MOD) but my suggestion is to do more research next time, maybe see if there are roms available for a phone BEFORE you purchase it, and research the companies record for updated BEFORE you purchase... being angry after the fact for making a poor decision not only is "crying over spilled milk" but also unbecoming and unhelpful...
BLU is a company with a reputation for selling CHEAP, REBRANDED, CHINESE phones from GIONEE... this is all COMMON KNOWLEDGE and very easily found out with very little effort... (one would even say less effort than the tirade post you started this whole debacle with, certainly less keystrokes)
SO by all means maybe do some more research (I tried to help with the definition of grievance for you, since you obviously you chose to ignore it, or do not know it)
also your "warning" is akin to standing outside McDonalds (or fast food grease hut of your choosing) and warning people entering they "served you a cheeseburger, when you wanted a cheeseburger with onions, but didnt look or ask if a cheeseburger comes with onions, AND THEY ALSO SERVE CHEAP FATTENING FOODS HIGH IN SODIUM"
the basic point being you cant flash a rom to a device, so now you have sour grapes and have to spit whatever tripe you can to "warn" people on a place, that IN THE TITLE OF THE WEBSITE states "Developers," im sure we need it... thanks for all the help!
XDA isn't a place for venting because you didn't research before buying.
