Anyone interrested in building Cyanogen for the Defy? - Defy Android Development

The Milestone guys show how to do it and we could start a similar project and build Cyanogen around the signed Motorola kernel. http://android.doshaska.net/cm6
I'm not a coder, but I am a pretty experienced Linux sysadmin. We could open up a google code project or similar and start reproducing what they did for the Milestone. I'm pretty sure that this way we could have a completely blurless rom within the next month.
So if youre interested please contact me and we'll show where to get started.

I would absolutely be stoked to have Cyanogen ROM on the Defy. Unfortunately, my only way to contribute would be via donation
But I would have no problems with donating

I'm a student and i can try to help with code, but i'm prefer be a good tester .

i like the idea, i know something about linux, but i can't code. i would donate.
the defy seems not to be interesting for the devs at cyanogenmod.
a beblurred android 2.2 or better 2.3 would make a pretty nice device of the defy,
for now it's only fine hardware which is locked with horrible software.

i would love to see cyanogen on my defy.
we should ask HandlerExploid ... he is a very expericened android developer and he owns a defy

Doesn't installing CM imply using a different kernel? If I am not wrong, this can't be done in the Defy... or can it?

Yes, that will unfortunately disable quite some of CM's advantages. However, Droid does also have this restriction and there is a port for it, so it's basically still possible yet less rewarding.

you can build a kernel with these, but due the lack of key's, you can't sign it to run on the defy.....

Make it clear that only the original DROID doesn't have a locked bootloader, all other Motorola Android phones do, including DEFY.
The Milestone CyanogenMod was made possible, IIRC, by using a relatively new kernel from a Brazilian Milestone ROM.
Sadly, if you want to use CyangeonMod, stay away from Motorola phones, except the original DROID.
There are custom ROM for DEFY, but they must use Moto's kernel which in turn limits the extent of the "customization" possible.

Locked Bootloader
With Cyanogene you have a fine Bootloader .But i think for one or two smartphone nobody try to hack the Motorola Bootloader .
But why not

A good idea is to build an CM like rom.
Blurless and with CM apps.
I think this is possible!

Bootloader? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920579

OK, the Motorola Bravo is very close to the Defy (just the Cam is 3MP and not 5MP). The Bravo already got the CM 7 with Gingerbread, so probably we need only a NAND backup from some Bravo device
EDIT: I was too happy today, it does not exist a CM7 für MOTO Bravo, but for HTC BRAVO....

Its not only the cam.

Yes, it is only the cam. Eeach other difference is case related.

[ROM][STABLE][UNOFFICIAL] Oxygen ROM 2.3.2 (Android 2.3.7)

Well hello!
Please read this post regarding the development of the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29811287#post29811287
This is my attempt to port oxygen rom (and i think i've done a pretty good job) on our lgp500.
Please remember this: anything that is written here or in the unwritten law of common sense can and will be ignored.
Now let's get to the facts:
Oxygen ROM is a highly optimized AOSP rom with only a few added features. I also intend to keep it that way. There will be no added features unless the good people from Oxygen want to add them. The rom is like this for a reason. So requests like "can you add theme manager?", "can it make me coffee?" will be ignored.
This ROM is now for new baseband only (as of v2.2). I see people on this forum have a hard time understanding this so i'll write it again. This ROM is for new baseband only.
No need to flash GAPPS now... included in zip file
There is no need for screenshots since this is basically AOSP. So just look around for some AOSP screenshots.
I am not responsible for any damage to your phone. You chose to flash the ROM it's your responsibility.
Now as for how to flash it:
copy to sd->wipe data, cache, dalvik->flash (i flashed with clockworkmod, but might work with others)
No need to flash gapps now... Included in zip

Change log, news, downloads, bugs, sources, donations, all available on the new blog.

great job, mate. I wish you success with bugs' fixes.
Can I use this ROM for everyday working?
Man pop,this is great dude
BTW,is Oxygen opensource or not?
To answer some questions:
The screenshot problem was already discussed. If you really don't know anything about Oxygen a nice ol' google search would do. Also this is their official website (also found on google) off-topic: i find that google is a great way of finding information, don't you?
As for the .35 kernel i do want to implement it in a future release. I wanted to do it now but there were some big bugs going in terms of graphics with the .35. But i promise it will come in a future release. I also tried building with fserve's gbs kernel(.32) but there was no wireless... so i just kept franco's .32 kernel. Better stable and old than brand spanking new and unstable.
And you can use this for everyday. I use it everyday. I don't use bluetooth that much so i'm good Also, in my case i have better battery life than cyanogenmod. Probably because there are less apps in there.
Also thank you for your kind words everyone.
Thanks for completing knzo dream

[AOSC] Android Open Source Compiler

Android Open Source Compiler
Build Android with a gui.
This project will be a continuous battle. Which is why I decided to not "package" this in terms of distro. I have written a make file and instructions on how to build this very easily. This way, you can't always get the latest code from either they master (unstable) branch or the Stable (stable) branch. Plus no harm in teaching you little bit of git.
Use the poll to gauge project priority, also mention more projects so I can add them to the polls.

- Apparently there are some issues with the adb options. Please let me know if this is the case.
Please read:
I have thought maybe times different ways I was going to go about this. Ads, donate version, paid app, etc. I choose to keep the project open, as that's how I roll. I do ask that if you enjoy the application that you try to donate something. This was my first gui project and took a lot of time and effort to even get it to where it is right now. I hope everyone enjoys the app as much as I enjoy working on it.

Mind being a little more descriptive?
If your specific device is having issues compiling, then you either need to figure out the issue and commit it to cm, find out what is wrong with specific steps like if ./extract-files.sh isn't working. Overtime this might be able to overcome every possible mishap, but doubtful. It is a work in progress and if issues do arise, I need a little more information so I can try and find a solution.
A couple of times building for the TMO S3 I got two different errors. One is the kernel not being built. Second is it asks me if I have the correct manifest. Happens on both CM and AOKP. I have created a local_manifest file and inputed the kernel info for my device from CM but still no luck.

[DEV][KERNEL] Let's COMPILE a NEW Kernel FOR HTC ChaCha [a810e / Status]!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42536090&postcount=9
As HTC CHACHA user, We have long stopped relying on HTC to support HTC CHACHA.
Let's get started. Let's compile a new kernel for HTC ChaCha!
Here are my thoughts :
Because I'm not sure which version of linuxkernel is a good start. so let's assume 3.x.xx is the new version.
And the difference between the two versions(chacha-gb-crc-2.6.35-1643b58 & linux-3.x.xx.tar.gz) is too large,
It may require us to apply the changes manually.

}
AM I Correct?
I've been taken this boring part (diff chacha-gb-crc-2.6.35-1643b58.tar.gz linux-2.6.35.10.tar.gz),
AND I have already completed. Boring Boring Boring. AND I have checked it again again again.
So you can trust. There are no mistakes. EOL.
https://github.com/Luzifer1984/diff_chacha_kernel
You will find out more information about ChaCha in "kconfig"
Following is the key to transplant:
1.Circumspection: Attitude determines success
2.Skill: Linux Kernel
3.A modicum of luck: Right now we have no more hardware information about HTC ChaCha.
Step1.Transplant Linux kernel
Step2.Integrate and Modify
TOOL
1.Windows: WinMerge OR BeyondCompare
2.Linux: Meld OR BeyondCompare
Potential problems, and possible solutions:
Let's take HTC CHACHA for example.
Differences between linux-3.x.xx.tar.gz and chacha-gb-crc-2.6.35-1643b58.zip caused problems.
when the differences are big to complete files, that seem daunting and maybe even impossible. don't panic when you see that. You must be particularly careful
AND
The following principles should be respected as far as possible:
1. It would be even better if you could copy the hardware-related source code from old version to new version
2. About hardware-related source code, if old version and new version had changed same file (same file name) with different content. then we base the old version.
Because old ones did work. Old hardware-related source code got CHACHA working well.
3. source code unrelated as hardware, We should use the new one. as possible. (kernel's update)
4. if the file is difficult for you to conceive how to deal with , u should MARK and skip it.
Let's get simple tasks done first. And complete some tasks that you are absolutely sure what will happen.
Then come back to deal with the previously skipped files. This part may require us to diff other sources to get the right way.
4.1 reference sources from other devices, like LG Optimus Me P350 /ZTE Blade/ HTC Wildfire S (MSM7227 Armv6 Adreno200)
4.2 kernel.org updated kernel which caused the difference . we should find the difference between linux-3.x.xx.tar.gz & linux-2.6.35.10.tar.gz(diff)
About trade secrets and patents involved, I think there is no way to avoid. So let's forget it!
Please think about this idea and let us know what you think.
Does anybody know what i meant? Sorry for my poor English. Maybe you could convey my word meaning and revise this post.
@Adumont You are a good developer. good at English ang Git. expert in android.
Could you lead us to take it further? I like chacha so much.

Has there been any progress made on the kernel builds at all? There are far less phones with a qwerty keyboard that can even run a custom ROM nowdays. Obviously HTC is not supporting the phone anymore anyway, so I think it is about time we had at least a functioning kernel!

What is Evervolv?
Evervolv is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) rom. We're fully open sourced and encourage it with no restrictions. The work put into this rom is community driven and and Evervolv Project is made up of numerous members and contributors. And this whole time we were receiving 4.3 nightlies
Right now the current source we are working on is Jellybean (Android 4.3.x).
Current version: 3.3.0p1
Nightlies (starting 8.28.2013) available for testing. Once issues are re mediated, a release build will be posted.
Pre-Requisites:
1. CWM or TWRP
2. S-Off, or thorough understanding of how you work around S-On to get the kernel included in this ROM flashed. FAUX, CM kernels are not compatible and will result in functionality issues if it boots at all.
3. Desire to be helpful in an appropriate manner. Logcats, dmesgs, etc are very helpful, and necessary to assist.
4. Full data wipe/factory reset
Downloads:
http://www.evervolv.com/devices/speedy - Named "ev_speedy-nightly-2013.xx.xx-squished.zip"
This requires gapps for 4.3, do not use 4.2 gapps.
Where do we get the GApps?
Edit: I got them from HERE. 20130813
Edit2: Wow this works great right out of the box! Nightly 10-2
thanks, runs great so far. only issue i see right now is i cant take screenshots, keeps telling me storage might be in use but its not.
Confirmed on my end. Screenshot isn't working for me either. I'll try to get a logcat later tonight.

sure, at this point i havent even been paying attention to what other phones are getting cause i cant escape the shift. if cm 10.2 was where they implemented more privacy from information grabbing apps then my answer is most definitely.

Do we have a Nexus-like ROM?

I've searched for it but I haven't found yet. Can anyone help me?
I know there are a lot of AOSP based ROMs for our device along these threads, but I mean a different brand of "pure", something more like Nexus phones, which would contain basically only the Google major apps installed. Has anyone done it yet? (It is even easier to do than porting an AOSP, as it would consist in removing the maximum Motorola stuff and adding Google stuff to the STOCK).
Thanks in advance.

Try NX Rom
Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
Nope aosp 6.0 hasn't come out yet for osprey we only have aosp 5.1.1

NX Rom is about as close as your going to get to Nexus-like... but like it's on steroids.
If you are meaning a really basic, plain AOSP based ROM like Chroma, Plain-Andy, or Purity, then nope... No one has built a striped down speedy, battery friendly demon for the G3 based on Marshmallow. I contemplated building Purity ROM like I did for the LG G2 but I just never got enough of a wild hair to do it.
Need Nexus Rom for merlin

Sorry no offence, but it isn't related to this thread I think.
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli
Well, I use Krexus AOSP. Its literally the most stripped down Rom I've ever used. Is a 205mb download, comes with the absolute basics to get you up and running. No browser, no calculator, no gallery. Just the framework of Marshmallow, and a ton of potential. Its essentially bug free, and FAST! After initial install, and one reboot.... I show 515mb of free ram on my 1gb model. It also boots in about 15 seconds from power on, to your home screen. This can be further decreased with L-Speed or PBM scripts to speed up boot by removing the boot screen animation.
Its even described as the closest thing to a nexus rom you can get by its developer. And I swear by it.
You'll need to get SuperSu if you want to root it, run a barebones Gapps, and install a few things you might want like a browser, file manager, and text message app.
I think once its installed, theres about 7 apps on it. Its built for people who want a true custom rom. You don't have to download some 350mb behemoth of a rom with every single option available. Krexus is literally just a framework, to allow you to add whatever you'd like, and forget the rest.
Try it out, you won't regret it.

The reputable Flashhhh is now the maintainer of it.
I highly recommend downloading his version here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424941605
As the original version had some problems. So don't download the OP's version in the first post download link. Use the link above to get the better version. ITS FAST!! ITS SMALL!! Its built for those who don't want or need a ton of options. You can literally build it exactly how you want it.
From the Krexus AOSP description:
Krexus was born out of a simple necessity. The latest releases of stock Android (namely lollipop and marshmallow) were pretty close to my idea of a perfect android ROM, yet missing some elements, which are meant to be included in stock Android, at least for me. Starting from a clean AOSP environment, only specific features and fixes are included, which are personally tested, with one goal in mind. To create a stock like android ROM, "as it should be".
This means, and I mean it, a ROM like how stock nexus image should be, for me.
This isn't going to get bloated. Most UI "features" are already there.
This isn't going to start picking commits relentlessly, I will test them personally and only add things that 1) work like they should 2) would fit in a stock ROM.
This isn't going to be updated very quickly. Only security and bug fixes will be pushed out ASAP.
This is going to follow Google's & AOSP guidelines as closely as I can.

AOSP-OMS is a pretty new ROM but with a "Stock" gapps package it would be almost exactly like a Nexus ROM.
