I've currently got an HTC Desire, I've currently got the opportunity to swap it for an HTC HD7, the main reason is because I enjoy working with .NET (I've made a couple of applications for Android, but Java isn't my favourite).
The question I'm asking is how does the HD7 compare to the Desire in performance, features and development?
And what, if anything, will I miss from Android.
How easy would it be to switch a Desire, locked to T-Mobile UK, with an HD7, locked to O2
Last question: What kind of progress has been made in 'rooting' Windows Mobile?

Hey,
I'd like to buy a new device soon but I'd like to keep the price as low as possible.
So I actually wanted to buy the Desire HD (600€).
But then I noticed that some devs got the Desire HD ROM working on the HD2.
So the HD2 is available for around 350€ here.
What would you say?
Can the HD2 provide the same quality and is the Desire HD ROM running nearly as good as on the native Desire HD?
Thanks in advance,
Florian
I have a HD2 and a HTC Desire and my advice would be, if Android is your weapon of choice for an operating system, go with an android device.
I've tried a number of Android Roms on my HD2 and although they are great, they are still in development and battery life is an issue with the Rom having to be run off the SD card.
Have you considered a HTC Desire?
I've noticed the screen sizes of your mentioned devices. So have you also looked at other phones with big screens such as evo 4g, captivate, vibrant and epic 4g?

The hd2 boots the desire and the desire hd roms so for the price id say the hd2 you get the best of every thing hands down
with new wm roms built to run android battery life is no longer an issue
A HD2 doesn't run the Desire ROM as good as the Desire and does not yet match it closely for battery life. However I'll add that i'm running a stock WM ROM on my HD2.
If you want Android working out of the box then get an android device. Just be aware the HD2 may require tweaking to death to get it to work well and not everbody is prepared for that.
My reason for suggesting the Desire is the price as i think it is coming down in price alot now and is a very good buy.
All my opinion of course
I was also in this dilemma for a while, and I wanted so much to try android, and the same time keep it on the safe side with a windows mobile, so i got 2 days ago the HTC HD2, put Dutty ROM, and i am trying a few android roms, and for now, i like it very much.
Android on HD2 is not perfect yet, but it is going in this direction, but it is very usable, need just to find the correct edition to use...
I would say Desire HD. Has the 2nd Gen 1 ghz snapdragon CPU, an updated GPU, and 769 MB of RAM. Also it now has permanent root.
Hi.
I currently have a HTC Touch HD with WinMo6. I've been really happy with it. I use a few apps and have MS Exchange on it too. I've been getting a little fed up with the lack of apps. My contract has ended now so looking at upgrading. The question is do I go for WinMo7 or go to Android.
I'm pretty close to going for the HTC Desire HD, but I've never used Android before. I am concerned about it being compatible with MS Exchange. Also, I don't want to regret it if WinMo7 becomes much better. I get so fed up, though, when all the apps I want or iphone or Android only.
The HTC Desire HD has an advantage in that it has a micro SD slot (the Mozart doesn't).
Any thoughts?
Hey all, I am sure, many people here have the same question as I have: Shall I get a WP7 or Android device.
I am currently using a WP6.5 device (Touch Diamond) but its becomming old and its digitizer starts to fail and now I am looking for an replacement whereas there are 4 options:
HTC HD7, Tropy | Desire, Desire HD
(outer ones would be 260€, inner ones 140€)
but there is still the question: WP7 or Android - i am in love with MS and i love the openness of android, which is now beeing jailed more and more whereas MS is officially still discussing homebrew & stuff, thus I as you, the community, what you would reccomend and especially why!

android, because the lack of cdma win7 phones
I am a reformed Iphone user and I have been set free by the Android system, and it is still branded.

The HD2 can run both Android CM7 and WP7, by the way... if you're looking for a phone to fit BOTH of your needs.

Trophy cons:
Only runs WP7
Pros:
Um, can't think of any
HD2 cons:
Can run WP7
Pros:
Runs WM6.5, Android, WM6.5 & Android, and ok, for those who find Android just too exciting and need something dull to calm them down; Android & WP7
Hd2 is likely best, the battery life is horrible but it runs wp7 as well as a trophy with a much bigger screen so you can get the full wp7 experience on a bigger phone. Id likely go hd2 with wp7
The HTC HD2 is an old device no longer supported since the release of Windows Phone 7 so the Trophy would be an alternative to that.
+1 for the HD2. It's an amazing phone that will never bore you. It's super easy to unlock (aka: root like Android) and will run more mobile OSes than any other phone in history. It will run WP7 NoDo and Mango just as good as the real thing.
Just make sure to get the T-Mobile US version because of the greater internal memory.
HD2 is no longer supported? I disagree. The hd2 forums on xda are among the largest and most active. Android on the hd2 is constantly evolving. If you are at all interested in playing with android and wp7, hd2 is the clear choice.
the HD2 is a legend.
Hi everyone,
I wonder what actual Android Phones could see a WP7 ROM coming for some kind of dual boot ?
I know an answer could be "HD2", I know, but it's screen is really of poor colour quality compared to actual HTC Sensation / HTC One screens ...
Another answer could be "buy a WP7 phone", but actually I don't find all the flexibility I need for everyday use with WP7, but I'd like to use it sometimes to start developing apps for it. It could be better not to buy 2 phones, not to keep 2 phones in my shirt's pocket, and not to switch sim card between 2 phones ...
I actually have an HTC Sensation XE, and could be planning for a HTC One X, any chance to see WP7 coming on them ? Or do you have other devices in mind ?
Thanks for your help !
Other than HD2, none.
Future phones? Cannot say, possibly none as the selling point is its OS ofc along with other things.
You have to decide, what you want. WP or Android.
But why did developers have so much interrest in porting Android and WP7 on the HD2 in its time and now no more interest for other phones ?
What did the HD2 have that no more newer phones have ?
HD2 is becoming very old ...

The HD2 was a pioneer back in the day. Its was the first device with a huge screen and a 1GHZ snapdragon, and everyone not interested in iPhone 3GS immediately went to the HD2.
Also, Android wasn't a hit back then and the HD2 was promised to receive a WP7 update (rumored/promised). When it turned out its not going to receive the update, there was a huge frustrated community with a very good phone stuck with a terrible, dead-end operating system (heck, I will NEVER forget the day I was listening to music on my WinMo 6.5 and was wondering why the hell is the music stuttering on my 1GHZ cpu).
You must understand, such a community is not possible today due to fragmentation; there are A LOT more phones than there were back in 2009.
Also, the HD2 was in a pseudo-gray area licensewise: The opensource community will never install an operating system on a device that isn't supposed to have that operating system (ex. SGS II users don't have a license to use WP7 on it). I say gray area because the HD2 doesn't have such a license as well, its just that it was 'promised' WP7
tl;dr: It isn't possible because of too many reasons.
