Hey all, I am sure, many people here have the same question as I have: Shall I get a WP7 or Android device.
I am currently using a WP6.5 device (Touch Diamond) but its becomming old and its digitizer starts to fail and now I am looking for an replacement whereas there are 4 options:
HTC HD7, Tropy | Desire, Desire HD
(outer ones would be 260€, inner ones 140€)
but there is still the question: WP7 or Android - i am in love with MS and i love the openness of android, which is now beeing jailed more and more whereas MS is officially still discussing homebrew & stuff, thus I as you, the community, what you would reccomend and especially why!

The HD2 can run both Android CM7 and WP7, by the way... if you're looking for a phone to fit BOTH of your needs.

We all have read about HTC wanting to be the first to come out with an Android handset. But my question is this, what is the likelihood of HTC having official roms of Android for some of the other current phones (IE the Kaiser, Touch, and Titan).
Just wondering if my TILT is going to be (officially) stuck with Windows Mobile for the next 2 years.....
same question i want an answer for.... i really wanna rid myself of this slooooooo wm os....
Official version put out by HTC? Doubtful.
Various cooked versions put out by the good people here at XDA? Almost certainly.
Exactly. There's no way HTC would cannibalize their success with an hipothetical Android based machine by offering this ROM for other devices.
But, of course, cooked ROMs are possible. The key factor here is hardware compatibility and drivers. If the official HTC Android ROMs are tied to some specific chipset and only have the drivers for that, you're out of luck.
Why is everyone so anti wm. I love it. There are advantages to having an os with an api so close to the desktop, ie many developers because its easy to learn.
I don't mind WM too much. Hey, we knew what we got when we bought our phones didn't we? I would like the choice of android however. Choice is always good and maybe it'll be better than what we have now. I'd say unofficial releases of Android for popular devices are likely. Just like we got unofficial WM6 releases.
As much as I think WM can be improved, i;d like to actually see and use android before I anoint it as a savior to smartphone/pda users.
Anything can look great in a controlled demo on YouTube. Let's see someone live with it for a week and then decide if its truly a replacement.
The iPhone UI, while quite impressive, still can't do half of what the WM phones can today. Yet the media love to say its the greatest thing on earth. I'm happy the iPhone Ui inspired lots of new WM development, but in the end, I still have a WM phone. And have bought to devices since the iPhone went live.
Want to run Android on Kaiser?

Haret is not an emulator, it´s a bootloader. WM shuts down when you boot Android with Haret.
Hi guys,
I need to buy a PDA. I have 3 devices in my budget:
X10
HD2
Desire
Which one to go for? I am more leaned towards HD2 with a hope that it runs Android with all functions (including Camera / Good battery life + no issues with Mic for Incoming / Outgoing Calls) & it will also support WinMo7.
Please share your opinions esp. for HD2 vs Desire
sounds to me like you have already made up your mind
hTC Leo: You can have both Android and WM, and perhaps WP7
hm..
But how is your experience with LEO running Android? battery will survive for one day? or less?
Any problems with Calls?
My experience is great
all works almost same as in Android native devices , battery lasts less than in WM but can make it a day.
Not any prob with calls really.
@orb:
Are you using any WinMo ROM on your HD2 or is the default one?
i was going through a Thread where almost majority of the people were not happy with HD2.. may be because of the Stock ROM?
Of course I´m not using stock!
I flashed to a cooked ROM since day 1, have a read on Leo section so you´ll find out what members think of this super device!
Desire, i think thats why better than HD-2, unless your the guy who wants to switch to OS's everyday

I use the latest stock ROM for my HD2 on O2, never had a problem with it.
Also install SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 as I find it a better interface.
What do you actually want to use your phone to do though?
Most people from what I've read run android on their HD2 because it's cheaper than getting a desire HD, they don't really flip between the two.
What sort of user will you be?
Yup want to use it for Android with a hope that WinMo7 will run on it one day

Ok in that case there's no hope for you
Your option is the HD2 as I doubt WP7 will be ported to an android phone.
Have you played with WP7 yet?
I seriously recommend trying it out in a shop if your choice is android and WP7, because if you discover WP7 is not for you, it's better to find out sooner and then just buy an android phone.
Hello everyone;
hope you keeping well, I have HTC Touch Pro in mean time and I wanna replace it, so with what I should replace it, HD7 or Hd2 or HTC Touch Pro2 ? Please help me decide one and why?
Thanks in advanced
You really want WP7 without basic features? For example: No SD Card support, no copy and paste, no default browser selection, no multitasking.
WM6.5 is not supported by Microsoft, so there willn't be any new updates.
Think about alternative platforms Android, Bada OS.
But if you really want Windows, I'd choose HD2.
First of all are you a tmobile customer? Most likely I'd say. But give some more options to choose from. Hd2 and touch pro 2 are both outdated already. Even though hd 7 looks pretty tempting but nah windows phone 7 is still a pretty weak platform. Consider buy a g2 or my touch 4g or vibrant 4g instead. But here of you decide the vibrant make sure it's vibrant 4g not the original one ok?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
out of those two id choose the hd7..its much more current hardware wise and it has the newer version of the windows mobile os...also in response to AdmcPL, those features arent available now but they will be released in a major update due out this spring, and even more features will be out in another update later this year
Why not go with the HTC Desire HD?
It's basically the same phone as the HD2, but comes with FroYo
I'd say HD7 is good , but not good enough .. wait and get something like dual core with better screen .. because soon HD2 & HD7 will be last gen. smartphones.
good luck anyway
If you have only these 3 options I'd go for the HD2 without any hesitation (I had one before my Z and had a Touch Pro before that one). You'll be able to flash all kinds of ROMS and install almost every OS on it (Android, WP7 etc.). There's a lot of support for this device.
Touch Pro2: only if you want to keep both a hard keyboard and WM. Otherwise forget it. Too old as already said by a previous poster.
HD7: I really don't like WP7. It looks so boring and ugly. Will there be as much applications and development as for Android or WM? I don't think so but that's just my opinion.
On the other way if you are not against other options I'd suggest you to buy an Android device like the Desire Z or HD as Android is really the best OS. You could install it on the HD2 but IMO the physical buttons are not appropriate and make the user experience less pleasant than with the soft keys on Android devices. I noticed immediately the difference when I switched from my HD2/Android to my Desire Z.
Hope it'll be helpful

I doubt that there is any difference in hardware between HD7 and HD2 except for the kickstand in HD7.
But if anybody would ask me I will tell then to get HD2.
It can run WM6.5, Android and WP7 as good as any other phone.
@all thank u so much guys seriously I'm so greatful , and yes I will go and buy the HD2 today. I'll give my touch pro away I really liked the keyboard on it, guess ill buy external keyboard for the HD2 and for andorid I don't know didn't really use it that much but ill give it a shoot on my next HD2 hehe ... Thank you so so much
Hey yes I am a noob and did some research and homework on my own
but did not come across the right thread or information I am looking for yet.
I decided to go for a WP7 phone after selling my brand new iPhone 4 which I got from my insurance claim. The main reason was because while my iphone was in insurance claiming process I had a chance to use an android phone and I was amazed that how I have confined myself only to iOS.
I really liked the UI of WP7 and what it is capable to do so but at the same time my major concern is that it does not have some apps which android and iOS have got.
whatsapp and kakaotalk for example.
So I have come to a conclusion that I should buy a WP7 phone and get it modded (or hacked) so that it can multiboot both Android and WP7 operating systems.
My reasoning is that since Android is an open source platform, it has more adaptability to other hardwares hence I should go for WP7 and get it run Android on it.
From my research I have learned that HD2 could do it but personally I don't think HD2 is worth giving up my brand new iPhone 4 but something like Samsung Galaxy S2.
Anyone could name a good WP7 smartphone which could multiboot Android?
Thanks for reading this and please don't hunt down on such a noob. I did search on the forum but I could not find the right information for me.
HD 2 is the one and only.
No, now there isn't any wp7 devices can do that thing

The HD2 is not a Windows Phone 7 phone. It is a Windows Mobile phone. People just managed to get the Windows Phone 7 OS to run on it.
Hi everyone,
I wonder what actual Android Phones could see a WP7 ROM coming for some kind of dual boot ?
I know an answer could be "HD2", I know, but it's screen is really of poor colour quality compared to actual HTC Sensation / HTC One screens ...
Another answer could be "buy a WP7 phone", but actually I don't find all the flexibility I need for everyday use with WP7, but I'd like to use it sometimes to start developing apps for it. It could be better not to buy 2 phones, not to keep 2 phones in my shirt's pocket, and not to switch sim card between 2 phones ...
I actually have an HTC Sensation XE, and could be planning for a HTC One X, any chance to see WP7 coming on them ? Or do you have other devices in mind ?
Thanks for your help !
Other than HD2, none.
Future phones? Cannot say, possibly none as the selling point is its OS ofc along with other things.
You have to decide, what you want. WP or Android.
But why did developers have so much interrest in porting Android and WP7 on the HD2 in its time and now no more interest for other phones ?
What did the HD2 have that no more newer phones have ?
HD2 is becoming very old ...

The HD2 was a pioneer back in the day. Its was the first device with a huge screen and a 1GHZ snapdragon, and everyone not interested in iPhone 3GS immediately went to the HD2.
Also, Android wasn't a hit back then and the HD2 was promised to receive a WP7 update (rumored/promised). When it turned out its not going to receive the update, there was a huge frustrated community with a very good phone stuck with a terrible, dead-end operating system (heck, I will NEVER forget the day I was listening to music on my WinMo 6.5 and was wondering why the hell is the music stuttering on my 1GHZ cpu).
You must understand, such a community is not possible today due to fragmentation; there are A LOT more phones than there were back in 2009.
Also, the HD2 was in a pseudo-gray area licensewise: The opensource community will never install an operating system on a device that isn't supposed to have that operating system (ex. SGS II users don't have a license to use WP7 on it). I say gray area because the HD2 doesn't have such a license as well, its just that it was 'promised' WP7
tl;dr: It isn't possible because of too many reasons.
