It's secure enough where it won't fall out, but I'd get some foam and put it on the top arm so it can't rattle. That thick rubbery stuff with one glue side should work.

im hoping that snap holster will hold this as well, is yours the seidio one or just a sprint/generic one? Thanks again

I have that same battery and the sedio innocase with belt holster. If u leave the front half on the phone it fits snugly. Obviously the back won't fit anymore. But it is working out great. I am tryingto figure out a way to modify the back. Will let u know if I figure something out.

Ok. Finally modified my innocase. I cut it inhalf right below the flash hole on it then super glued it to the extended battery door. Now it fits even better in the holster. There is no movement at all.

Pics please!!! If you don't have another camera, just hold your Epic up in a the mirror or something lol.

Will the phone fit if you put it front facing out? I was thinking we could mod this into a good car mount....

Thanks for the pics, what did you use to cut the case?

Can you put the phone in the other direction and use it as a car mount? I could then use this that I have in my car.

well obviously im still waiting on the battery. Coming from hong kong. But my clip holster came in today and my god i am shocked at how sturdy this thing it. And from looking at it i think the extended battery will fit just fine in there. with no kind of movement in said clip

Could one of you brave souls take a picture of the phone in this holster but having it face forward instead of toward the case. I want to use it as a car mount with the krusell link above that I already have from other phones.

mine wont go in front facing, the way its designed it just wont at all

I have the Seidio holster + innocase combo and it will fit with the front facing out, but it's a tight fit. There is some resistance on the top clip when taking the phone out, but that's to be expected. I don't have my extended battery yet so I I'm not sure if it'll fit with the battery while facing screen out. Let me know if you still want pics of the innocase+ holster facing out.
Honestly though, why not just buy a cheap car mount? You can get a car mount for $10 or less online nowadays, wouldn't it be easier to just buy a separate mount?

I attempted to do it and no you can't. Due to the angle of the extended battery it won't slide in. I was hoping it would because I have a new holster on the way because my clip broke so i was going to then modify by broken clip and turn it into a car mount. I will keep you posted and post back in this forum if I get it figured out.

I used a small drill bit (can't remember the size) and drilled a few pilot holes. Then i used a lighter to warm up the case and warm up a pointed razor blade and very carefully slide the knife from hole to hole. Then i used sand paper (heavy grit) to grind down the ruff edges. I then used the lighter to burn off all the plastic shards sticking off the case.

Did you get it figured out?

No not yet. Been working a ton of hours at full time and part time job then spending rest of time with wife and 1 year old daughter

Crystal Skin Gel Case?

Does anybody have good photos of one of the crystal skin cases on their N1? I'm on the verge of ordering one, but I want to get a better look at how much bulk it adds. Most of the pics on the sites I've found are low res or at a bad angle.
Thanks.

i have one... its really nice. Very snug fit and has all the cut outs for 2nd mic, speaker, flash, ect...
well made and highly recommended. especially at such a cheap price.

Its similar to the cases for the mytouch/ magic but not as sturdy, probably because the phone is thinner and is really really snug. Unlike the silicone cases you cant pull this off just taking it out of your pocket.
The case thickness is slightly higher than the camera on the back which protects it somewhat from scratching the plastic lens cover.
On the front the ridge is high enough to prevent accidental screen touching tap the edges of the screen.
The buttons are still easily operable and does not interfere with the charger, mics, or speaker at all. It does cover two of the three gold connectors so it might be a problem when the docks come out.
I just ordered the very same case on ebay, along with the clearfreak screen protector.
Case seems to fit snug. Nice!!
Looks a lot better than I imagined.

I bought one because I'd rather not have my phone all scratched up. I will be attempting to remove the pattern when it arrives, probably with some nail polish remover first and then onto some acid.

Agreed +1.
Yeah. I love the material, clarity, and fit (I have the green one) but I don't care for the pattern. However, I realized that I don't actually see the pattern all that often so it doesn't bother me. I'm thinking of getting another; I got mine from Amazon (it was on there at least the day before the phone was announced) and I might get the blue one next.
I found a smoke-colored one on Ebay. I guess I'll pick up the smoke one, as the back of the phone is dark-gray, the checker pattern doesn't stick out as much as the white (or green or blue or red or purple) one.

I just got mine today. I love how snug the skin fits on the N1 and also the pattern isn't so ugly in person. IMO this is currently the best body protection for the phone and it's worth every penny spent on it.

Nexus One Otterbox Defender case

Decided to make a small video review on the best case for nexus one . My commuter case broke. So I called and emailed otterbox. I asked them instead a replacement being sent if I could just pay the difference. They said no problem. So I searched and searched for a video and found nothing having to do with this case. So here it is .

i actually looked for a video as well, but since there were none (yet obviously) i went ahead and bought mine as well. should be here in a few days. thanks for the video though, im sure it will help others out there.
You wont be disappointed its a little bigger than I would like but very well made

The only thing I don't like and it's not the cover fault is that if the phone ever freezes you need to take the cover apart in order to remove the battery; because there is no physical reset button on the phone.
Again it's not a cover flaw more like a phone flaw.
(On the iPhone you can press home and power button and it resets)

anyone else have the problem with the silicone skin coming off the plastic lip when placing it in the holster? i find that im frequently re-seating the silicone skin on those plastic ledges.
great f%^% case though!! best ive ever had for any phone ever.
does the N1 still fit on HTC car dock with this case?
That is the major gripe with any nexus one case..... There is NO oem product that will seat with a case. Better luck with zagg invisishield
i am personally planning on turning the holster into a car holder using the garmin suction cup arm method posted here somewhere. i dont need the holster, but it holds the phone with the case. with card dock enabled by bluetooth there really is no need for the htc dock.

it is huge and thats why it comes with a holster thats made for it. i will use that holster to make a car dock that will fit the case. thats the point.
If I didn't have the OEM desktop dock and car dock I'd probably get that. I have the Seidio innocase which is pretty easy to take off and put back on. I'd be hating life if I had to take that defender off when I got in the car. The clip is cool if you use the phone while working out or running. HTC is selling cases and a holder for the N1 now too.
My Defender bought in August 16 is falling apart where it snaps to the holster, No falls or abuse.

I use the Garmin holder but didn't need to incorporate the OB holster.
This was originally done to fit my Samsung Captivate with a Body Glove case.
Slight modifications made it work for the N1 with the Otterbox Defender.
I got this Garmin holder of Ebay for like $4 shipped (got 2 for $8 since it was cheap).
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170551993587
Since the Garmin is much bigger than most phones all you have to do is use a heat gun or any heat source to heat up the two end and mold it to the phone's shape.
1st Garmin holder
2nd back side
3rd mount on dash
4th mount on windshield (use for dash cam)
For my second holder I took the clip part of it and and used it with the Pro Clip that I had for my old N95.
There is already a discussion thread about the defender for the nexus and I believe someone posted a video in there somewhere....

Speck universal holster for G2 (with pics and link!)

I was planning on purchasing this Speck universal holster for my G2. I already have the OEM gel skin and this seems to fit it perfectly. Good alternative to otterbox or seidco cases that are mysteriously absent for our beloved phone model. I was wondering if anyone had one or used one in the past and also to inform others about what might make an excellent combo for the popular OEM texturized gel skin. linkage... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6824578&sk
Okay, it just came it and it's very nice. The build is nice quality and solid for a plastic holster. The cool thing is how it works. It has a spring (No... not like the one in our Z-hinge) that auto-fits any sized smartphone with or without gel or hard case! And when you use it without a case... its not loose or jiggley at all. Very solid each corner has rubberized grip on the inside so that it holds any size phone. I knew it was a bit pricey ($25-29.99 depends on where you get it) but it's worth it to me. And I can use it with any smartphone... so if I felt like going TP2 today... just pop in my sim and the same clip. And any future phone too. Here are some pics...

The cool thing about this holster is that you can use it one ANY phone so I switch up with one of my many current or future phones. Will be a nice combo with the T-Mobile Gel Skin, I think.

Yeah I just saw that in another thread. it looks nice! I'm gonna stick with this one since I can put in the holster while the gel skin is still on. I dont think the regular seidio holsters will do that. I know they have some that hold the phone with a case on but not the current ones. they have to go naked to fit. I'll post some pics later this week when it arrives. it should be here wednesday or thursday... but thanks for the heads up!

If you are using a wider belt like I am, it is kinda difficult at first. I fixed it by pushing upwards on the clip so that it closes all the way. Do that firmly once, and it should fit nicely. If you belt is wider than the clip... well that's the issue. Just examine the clip while its on the belt. If it isn't closed tightly... push the clip upward into the belt and it will loosen and fit properly.

I pulled out the clip spring and detached the clip so I could remove the screw on the pivot. This let me flip the clip over so that I pushed down rather than pulled up to remove the phone and the problem was solved. as the clip is now forced against my belt.
As a warning though, I had to snip off the two retainer bumps from the case to get it to pivot correctly again. As a side effect, it can now pivot in 360 degrees (it doesn't spin freely)
In the end, this will do, but I'm really hoping that Seidio pulls through as this system is not the quality I would like for my needs. I prefer the snug fit and felt padding in the seidio as it keeps the screen clean and protected rather than the spring powered gap and distance away from the holster the screen is now.

yeah, I got mine working with just a little force by pushing upwards on the clip without modding (which is nice). It's a nice clip but I guess your belt was a bit wider than mine. But so far this seems like the best thats available. it would be nice if otterbox or seido made a clip that fit on their protective cases but it seems like it won't happpen... oh well, we got stuck with the rather lame otterbox commuter series. Welll, I am happy with this setup though. no complains here since I didn't have to snip off the retainer clips.

[Q] Lanyard for the DZ: how are we going to fit one?

So we don't have a lanyard hole on the Desire Z... Obviously HTC want us to drop it and buy a new one every few months ;-)
Has anyone got any ideas as to how we can do this? (or have done this???)
I reckon it needs to be 'hung' from the top right, or bottom right corner as you look at it, then it naturally hangs with the keyboard closed.
Cheers
Rich.

I simply got a hard case that had a hole in it. Both protection and a lanyard spot. Of course, that's if you want a hard case.
I never could figure out why HTC removes the lanyard hole for some phones (G1, G2), and has them for other phones (Touch Pro 2, MyTouch Slide)...
It is a mystery why it isn't included in every phone...
Search results gave me this......

Edit: I would think this idea would work much better if you had a extra back caseing (bodyglove or such case) to add support for the battery door to stay closed.
hmm, you could always use some kind of strong tape to stick the back door down

So looking at the top and bottom right corners, perhaps we could drill an in and out hole to make a bomb proof lanyard anchor.

wow brill, have you got a desire z, are you going to do this? now i know its a possibility i think i just might get one!
I have always been using lanyards/wrist straps on my smartphones and so will I on my Z.
On my previous device (HD2) I had ordered a case at Piel Frama and they had kindly accepted to add holes on my flip case for free.
Unfortunately for the Desire Z they have not released any flip case due to the physical keyboard.
The only solution I found is buying on Fortte site a flip case allowing using physical keyboard while it's in the case. You can choose your clip and among them there is the wrist strap. I have not received the case yet so cannot give you feedback for the moment.
I haven't totally investigated drilling the top/bottom right hand corner yet... But i reckon that's the go....
I want a solution without any add-on case.
It's pants that HTC don't add the holes... there's no reason other than conspiracy theories, why they shouldn't/couldn't.
Definitely a CIA conspiration
Serisously maybe HTC thinks that smartphones have become too heavy to be carried on with a lanyard? Maybe they are afraid of people who would complaint because of a lanyard (and consequently phone) breakage?
Just my feeling because I don't see any other reason why they would have decided to remove these holes
Going snowboarding tomorrow.
I guess ill use the rear door for a lanyard. Although the a few times my kid has dropped my phone and it comes hurtling off.
It should be fine. I also use something called a lighter leash that I have attached to the inside of my jacket pocket. Its similar to those things you see for id cards in hospitals. You pull on it and the string comes out.
You can use the keyboard hinge for that. It's worked great for me on the G1 and G2.
Only catch is that you can't just loop the lanyard around the hinge, there'd be too much extra string around the hinge. You have to pull the lanyard apart, wrap the string around the hinge, then put it back together. Totally worth it though.

hmm, that is a tryer, but i think there are already problems with the hinge and id really like a strap attached to the case, im dithering about where to get the torx 5 screwdriver from.
I don't think the hinge will break that easily lol
2 days boarding. no problem with the batter cover lanyard.
I just spent 2 days riding with the battery cover based lanyard.
It worked great and the conditions were pretty rugged.
I can recommend this method and I will use it again.
Any tips on which lanyard to get that can be pulled apart? As my lanyard is glued together in a plastic case where the string reaches the strap.
I've got a temporary solution of dental floss around the case hinge (!) and then that is attached to the lanyard. Dental floss is surprisingly strong. It just looks a bit DIY with some white duct tape wrapped around it...

Review: Nite Ize Steelie Car Mount

Just picked this up today at a local farm store (Rural King) for $14.91. I'm Pretty shocked I found it this cheap, since its retailing for $34.99 on NiteIze's website. https://www.niteize.com/product/Steelie-Car-Mount-Kit.asp. It comes with an alcohol swipe, for prepping the area you'll be sticking Steelie too. There's also a 3M primer stick for when applying onto a soft, vinyl, rubber, or textured surface.
I like how it's a ultra minimal car mount and can be placed just about anywhere with its 3M VHB foam adhesive. I've got the magnetic metal backplate attached to my Speck case, which will hold my phone during travel. I've attached some pics and will update how this mount handles in my large car. If it performs good here it'll work in probly any situation. Also it'll stick to almost any metal surface, like my refrigerator lol. I stuck my phone to a metal picnic table and the neodymium magnet is strong enough to to move/wiggle the table before it lets go.
Update: 5/19 After 314 miles of bouncing around, I can say this is a very solid car mount.

How was the backplate attached on your case?
Like, is it removable?

It's attached with the adhesive foam tape. Personally I've removed it to get it more towards the center of my case and have had no issues. I would think if the adhesive wore out you could get the 3M double sided 11 psi tape and repair it that way. Also there is replacements sold on the website.

So it's just stuck on with tape, meaning i would have to remove the phone from the case if i didn't want a case with extra thickness?

Yes. I chose to stick it to my case since this Speck case scuffs up easily. I'll be getting another case that I'll use outside my truck. I have no problem swapping cases when I get ready to drive or get out of my truck. Also I don't really mind it on my Speck case currently since it provides a little lift and makes the speaker sound better. I don't notice the back plate either in my pocket.

Well then, this sounds like something I might want now... You've got me convinced. Haha :good:
Except now I have to find where it's sold for $15. It's crazy expensive online.......
