Hi all, and thanks for this incredible support group .
I have been using an HTC Fuze P4600 since 2008, running TAEL roms as they are released since 2009. Recently the in call speaker (ear speaker) has begun to malfunction. The sound produced is inaudible; volume is turned up, no foreign objects covering the speaker grill, tried audiopara3.csv. This is NOT the "low in call volume" issue; I have not had an issue hearing in call for 2 years, it has only been happening the past 5 days. In a very quiet environment sound can be heard through the ear speaker, however, words cannot be deciphered as the volume is too low. The speaker phone, bluetooth and usb -> 3.5mm audio jack all work fine, and the microphone works as well (when in call the other party can hear me fine).
I have preformed a hard reset (to no avail), followed by installing the official rom distributed on HTC's website and restoring the locked SPL for warranty purposes. Still the ear speaker is inaudible. Unfortunately my device is no longer covered under warranty and HTC Repair Services have told me they charge a minimum of 140USD for repair. (/me does not have $140 to spend on his PPC)
I apologize if this has become a rant, I'm trying to be thorough..
Would it be naive to assume this is an issue with the ear speaker's physical connectivity and/or physical location? I am prepared to disassemble the device, but I am not confident I would be able to identify and repair the speaker issue.
If it is likely a serviceable physical problem, is there somebody who could inform me on the details of the ear speaker design? I have virtually no experience with electronic soldering, though I know the basics and do have experience soldering jewelry. I remember seeing a thread about making a video out cable (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411914) with enough content to make me feel confident that I could do it. Would similar information be available for the ear speaker? Should I have titled this thread "NEEDED: Schematics for HTC Fuze ear speaker"?
Any and all advice is appreciated, and let me know if you need more information.
Thanks in advance!

Hi I have checked previous posts and cant seem to find the help i need
I have been using my 02 mini for about 12 months and for some reason now I cannot hear out of the earpiece on the phone.
When i make a call the other person on the end of the call can hear me but I cannot hear them.
The only way i can hear them is to plug in an ear piece into the ear jack ( a wired earpiece)
Can someone please help me as this is driving me crazy)
Thank you in anticipation

There is a HUGE differrence between the audio circuits of Himalaya and Magician,,,Himalaya has a common Ringer/Speaker and Ear Piece while Magician has a seperate Ear Piece..
The lack of sound in ear peice is actually due to a bad design..
well u can try pressing the upper left corner while conversation and check if u get a sound..else go to a propoer service center and hv it replaced..
maybe the earpiece's terminals are not in contact with your board. If you have opened your Mini before, try checking them out.
I have 3 jamin ( I and my friend).
after 4 mounth when I reject the handfree the sound is not functoin right.
this mean when I cancel handfree the sound isn't go to speaker. and when put in again ofhen work and sometimes not.
I think my phone have hardware problem.
in my country this haven't a good warranty.
Might be hardware-switch in 2.5mm headset connector
I possibly had a similar experience:
-With headset everything was fine.
- Without headset the speaker and microphone were dead.
- The speaker did rang on incoming calls, so it wasn't defect.
Because I lately switched to 'Fantastic 1.1' rom (whis indeed is fantastic) I suspected software-malfunction, searched half a day for software and registry solutions and fussed with the registry. No result.
Finally, i stumbled to a posting that explained the behaviour. Within the 2.5mm headset connector is a tiny (more precisely 'lousy') hardware-switch, that tells the phone if there is a headset connected or not.
When that switch failes (in my case beacuase of a lot of dust), the phone acts as if an headset is connected.
So with no warranty left I opened the phone (very) carefully, cleaned the connector, fiddled with the switch and sound was ok.
Be carefull trying though, I think it's a good opportunity to ruin your phone.
Good luck.
Hi everyone, how are you?
For about a week or so i have been having some problems in my touch cruise.
My mic stop working (more or less). I have been trying to solve it by myself and with some help of forums in my mother language, but even so, i failed.
The problem is this:
When i answer a call, the person in the other side is not able to hear me at all. Only if i shout real loud and if i take the device from my ear and put it right in front of my mouth, they can only hear whisper like sounds.
If i am the one doing the call, it happens the same thing.
If i try to record a voice note or something like it, almost the same thing. i cant hear myself talking. Only in the situation i mentioned above, with the phone in front of my mouth and with me shouting, its possible to ear something.
I have done a hard reset just now and it remains with the same problem
do you know what might be happening? do you recommend some proceeder before i try sending it to be fix?
I bought it online, in expansys (and i'm in Portugal) and they said that i have to contact a company that makes the "fixing" for them (outsourcing services you know). I tried to call them but i didn't got any answer yet.
I know who is the dealer of the HTC brand in my country (Novabase).
Should i contact them directly, should i go first to the other fixing company or should i try some mambojambo in registry or some app that may fix the problem?
Please help me. My phone/pda is (almost) my life. I need it for work (and the amount of money i gave for it does not include problems of any kind )
Thank you in advance and sorry for the HUGE post.
I will be waiting for your guru answers =)
stay cool
up...
please
Unfortunately, it really sounds like a hardware problem, especially you already tried the hard reset. You can confirm this by using the headset. If everything works fine using the headset, then your phone's mic is broken. And if that's the case, sending it in for warranty repair is the only solution.
yeah, you are right. with the wired headset it works (oh, just to think about it, does your headset moves arround insite the jack? it seems loose)
it has to be hardware then. :S
SH*T =( so much money for this :S
thnaks anyway =X
Major mic problem
I've bought 2 HTC TC Cruise and both of them have the same mic problem, so it's supposed to be a quite common issue: suddenly the mic becomes deaf without any apparent reason! I know it maight be an hw problem, but I would avoid the too slow assistance service if possible, does anybody have an idea? Tnx all, bye.
This seems to be a common problem in Touch Cruise. My Mic stopped working and I took a replacement
The Hardware Quality Of Polaris Is Unacceptable Weak!
Just one month ago my Polaris was repaired and shiped back from UK (mainboard replacement in HTC repair center). It was "SIM not found" HW problem.
...and I have now a same MIC problem!
Now I see - I'm not alone, this looks like amplifier chip failure on the switchboard.
THE HARDWARE QUALITY OF POLARIS IS UNACCEPTABLE WEAK!
Im finish spending my time and money on shipment to HTC repair center.
Today I'm using a BT headset and looking for spare parts on web.
Hate the moment I decided to bay this ****!
I have been having some problems with the front speaker lately. Most of the time when I get an incoming call or make a call no sound comes through the front speaker and have to put the loudspeaker on to hear anything. The weird part is that from time to time it works fine usually after using the wired headphones. Oh an the volume is set to max.
Has anyone else had the same problems? How to fix this? could it be that I changed some settings inadvertantly?

Mine did not work at all any more. I even did a hard reset; no change. I have now sent it back to HTC for repairs.

Same here
Mine doesn't work at all.
Wow, I guess we should start a poll where people would select which problems they are experiencing:
1. Wi-Fi
2. BT
3. Front earphone
4. Radio
5. Bad painting
6. Shutting down suddenly
7. None of the above
More than one could be chosen... That would ballpark the size of the problem. Maybe some production batches were messed up due to the hurry from Qualcomm to deliver the already delayed parts? Maybe HTC came to that point where the brand is far larger than is the company's capacity of growing (especially in terms of QA)...

I have the same problem. The wired is that it ocassionally works. Another problem is that FM not always working. I bought the device in German. But now I'm in China. Any one knows how to fix? I don't know how to disassemble it. But I'm curious, maybe some pin is loose?
Same for me, the front speaker didn't work for 48 hours and then worked again I don't even know how
No sound speaker htc touch
I have the same problem, no sound from de phone, when switching to handsfree mode i hear de caller
Hello,
I have the same problem and found that this happened when starting an application that uses only rear speaker or hands free speaker (e.g. Tom Tom, Compe Pocket, etc.)
And the problem is not of that application, the problem is in the phone application of the cruise. I think that these applications mute or power off the front speaker and the phone application don´t activate it.
I have found a solution to this. When making or receiving a call, press many times speaker or hands free button on display and after many times, speaker works again.
Now, I am looking for a new phone application, in order to quit HTC application. Somebody knows a good phone application to use in Cruise????
Many thanks in advance.
My device has been returned today.
Have not had a chance to test it. Will do so when I get home tonight (in 8 hours). I will let you all know if it has been resolved.
As a remark to fran_mad's post; In my case, even after a FULL HARD reset, the speaker did not work.
I therefore do not think it was caused by a software problem.
Kind regards,
Robin

Motherboard has been replaced and all works OK again.
Good and quick service from HTC (free pick-up and delivery within one day)
I am still not sure if I like this one better then my good old sleek, slim and sexy Touch.
no sound from phone speaker
fran_mad's solution did not work for me.
I am affraid it's a hardware thing with me too?
I checked volume, did soft and hard resets (clear storage) but frontside speaker does not work!
HTC technical Support is going to collect my phone tomorrow. I will post my proceedings...
frontside speaker repaired
HTC Techsupport repaired my Touch Cruise within a week. Bravo!
See if it keeps working this time!
Same here. Front speaker started to fail a few times. 1 week later it totally stopped. Was repaired by HTC (EuroTwice.be) in 2 weeks.
Front speaker stopped working after 1 month usage - motherboard replaced by htc within 12 days. But now the device shuts down by itself sometimes - will send it to htc again tomorrow - meanwhile i am very disappointed about my Touch Cruise.

Hi
I have problem with the front speaker.
The sound is "blurry" if i put the caller to rear speaker the sound is crystal clear.
So the problem must be in front speaker??
I search the net but i cant find where to get it?
Is somebody have the front speaker from dead Prophet?

just wanna share with others..
my touch cruise experienced this weird problem since yesterday.i've tried fran_mad's method and and its works!! thanx dude! i'm still figuring why the heck this kind of problem happened as i didnt change any setting on my phone.
Sorry for being clueless but what do you guys mean by "front/rear speakers"? I thought there is only one speaker on the back side of the phone and a universal connector for handsfree - earphones+mic?
There are two speakers, one in front and one on the back. My front speaker died and was repaired by htc - new motherboard. Seems to be a known problem...
For some reason my phone decided to stop allowing me to hear the caller on the other end unless I have them on speaker or switch over to my bt device (though, the caller can still hear me). Has anyone experienced this problem? I believe the problem started this morning when I installed Skyfire (I received a message saying something about sound issues, but the warning went away before I could understand what it said), but I may be wrong. The main speaker works perfectly fine and I have no issues with any other phone sounds. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, i have the same issue since i own the phone.
The speakers sold at gsm4world are only for the back of the phone, i didn't find a replacement "earpiece" (correct word?) by now. Since i don't use the phone for calling, that didn't bother me till now (my gf wants to use it).
Maybe i will dismantle the phone during the week to see if its just a cold solder. If i get the partnumber i'll post or maybe another member comes up with a solution.
Phone dismantled and tested
Well.
I dismantled the phone yesterday and tested the speaker. You can do so yourself by simply using a 3,5mm headphone jack. Cut the cable open, connect the shield to one side, the white one on the other side. No sound --> speaker broken.
Afterwards i connected my 3,5mm cable directly to the board an plugged in into the microphone-jack. Receive a call an you can check whether the board is ok. i could easily record the call so there is no problem on the board itself. I assume its a production error.
You can order the spare part speaker at gsm4world.us für 8$, other sites offer it for 25$ and more. It's listed for the Diamond but don't worry, should fit as my colleage owns a diamond and allowed me to check - looks the same and works flawlessly by connecting directly to my 3,5mm cable.
Unfortunately i live in germany so it will take a while until i receive it. If i finally get my hands on it i will post my findings (in any case )
So the speaker arrived and i can only say: IT WORKS!
get a diamond earpiece and peel off ALL of the protection, because it is 1-2mm thicker than the original one.
Thats it After 1 year of ownership my raphael can actually make a call!
After that it was directly taken by my gf
