I need help. I was running CM7 and decided i was going to try the "whiskey" rom. i wiped everything restored and everything works great. Then I try to restore data only from my backup and each time i do this i get the error saying "application is not installed" when i click on my phone. I can send and recieve messages but cannot access the phone, dialer, contacts or nothing. Also google will not sync with my contacts. Mail and facebook sync still work and everything else is restored fine from my backup. Any ideas???

I wanted to get my wife's phone current and on CM7 (she was still on a rooted froyo), so I did a backup via cwm, flashed a stock rom, flashed stock recovery, unrooted. Then I did a LGUpdater update (worked fine :O), then flashed cwm and cm7.
Somewhere along the way, her contacts were lost, and for some reason, weren't all on her google contacts list. There are only 57 contacts on her google contact list, but she had many more than that. So, I went and reloaded the froyo backup from before unrooting and upgrading (did a factory reset too), but it still required me to re-sync with google and only retrieved the contacts that are on her google.com/contacts list.
Is there anyway I can get into the froyo backup and retrieve her complete set of contacts? I thought that they'd come back when I restored that backup, but asked me to re-enter her gmail and password (like it was starting fresh).
I don't know how she got into a state where her contacts weren't syncing with google, but I imported the contacts from the SIM card incase she was somehow saving them there, but that didn't get them.
Any recommendations? Another way to get the contacts by going into the rooted froyo backup itself, or perhaps a way to reflash that backup and have it "remember" the contacts?
hi!
i use ARHD 3.6.12
i woke up this morning to find out that all my contatcs got deleted
i didnt do anything. no restart no new programs , no nothing
any help?
is it possible to restore?
Check your Gmail Contacts to see if they are still there. If so you may be able to re-sync them with your device.
thanks i found an old backup so i used it
man ive been trying to figure out a way to restore my emails
everytime i restore them they never sync new mails
kinda hard to manually enter 5 email addresses every time i flash a new rom
i was wondering if any of you guys know the right way to do this and when i restore my mail data and reboot my mails dont sync
please help thank you
Never had this issue with Titanium Backup but I use only stock roms.
When I backup system data it keeps all accounts & Sync. Restored many times without re-enter all settings etc. which I agree could be a bit annoying.

yeah i know
just want to know how some of you do it
So there are multiple threads on this but I don't see one specific to the Verizon S3.
I recently tried to make the move to a new rom. I have tried both synergy and beans14. On both of them I run into this error and my contacts will not sync with google. I have tried to clear data in contacts and contacts storage with no success. I even tried do a factory reset back to a new rooted stock image using the guide found in section 6 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
From there i did another factory reset, complete cache wipes. I think flashed a recovery and tried installing the Beans14 rom again, and the issue is STILL THERE. I tried Beans because there was some talk that backup assistant could be the root of the issue and i beans does not contain this app...
Any idea what the hell is going on? I
If i revert back to my backup before trying to flash these roms I do not have the issue.

If you go under accounts and sync settings are you sure that you have enabled your google account to automatically sync with your phone?

Yes the phone itself, try going into settings->application manager->running application->contacts then select "clear cache option" if you see contacts storage under running application clear the cache for that as well. If that doesn't work backup your contacts first and then under the two applications I just mentioned select the "clear data" option. If that still doesn't fix your problems try running the fix permissions utility found in ROM manager. Let me know if you need more help

I have tried all this to no avail. I have also tried fixing permissions within recovery
This issue usually shows up when there is an issue with your contacts. Do you have any apps that can affect your contacts? Mr. Number is one that comes to mind that when it is restored to the phone, can cause the error to show.
You can try to back up your contacts to the sd card. Delete your contacts from the phone, and confirm delete from Google. Then after a wipe, if it tries, do not restore from Google, import from the sd card. Before restoring apps, make sure you don't see the error anymore when opening the contact list. Then restore apps. If it happens again, pay special attention to what apps were restored to find any potential trouble makers.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I tried to see if this would be an issue with CleanROM as well. Something went terribly wrong flashing that, and now i have a hard bricked phone. So it will be some days before I can even see if this works...
I always back up my SMS with "SMS Backup & Restore" from the Play Store. I've been using this app for a few months now and it has never given me issues. It always works after changing to a new ROM and restoring has always worked flawlessly.
But a few days ago I tried to restore my SMS using this app. It said it was successfully restored, but when I went into the Messages app. It showed "No messages". Even if I try to send a new text, Messages app force closes. So I rebooted, still "no messages". Rebooted again into recovery cleared cache and dalvik and rebooted. Now in the Messages App, I see only some of the old message that were restored but not all of them. I tried to restore again and the same thing happened "no messages". So I repeated the steps above and eventually after several reboots and clearing caches I finally get all my texts back. I even tried using a different SMS backup and restore app but it would not even restore, it just failed.
I have over 1500 texts backed up but I use to have over 2000 and this problem never happened.
Has anyone else had this problem? I need help with this.
This first started when I flashed Hyperdrive RLS6 and tried restoring. And every Rom I flash after that gives me the same issue.
First things first, I'd say try clearing the messaging apps data(in manage apps) and fixing permissions(in custom recovery, advanced). Then restore.
Something that might be noteworthy, the app SMS Backup & Restore uses a proprietary method and file extension, that makes it hard to debug. When you create the backup, does any error/warning message come up or does it say 100% successful?
Also, I'd recommend using Titanium Backup. Just search for "Messages" and it will backup the messages in plain .xml which could be more consistant.
My 2 cents
