[Q] Anyone got a decent screen off sound? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As I'm sure we all do, I love the funky screen off animation on the Nexus S. In the past, on my N1, I've messed about with alternative lock sounds and thought it would be epic to find one that makes a kind of electronic zippy kind of noise when locking, to go with the animation.
I've tried looking on freesound but it's hard to know what to search for!
Anyone got any ideas or, better still, an appropriate sound effect.

i actually find the stock screen off sound to be quite matching to the screen effect
like an old TV turning off

I guess, but I like change
I'm after something that sounds the way the animation looks, if that makes sense. Of course, the lock actually happens after so it probably wouldn't work that well anyway

Try these
Try one of these. Just rename Lock.ogg. Back up org to Lock.bak

I made a thread about this a long time ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878031
There several different sounds there, check those out.
I still have not found the perfect "TV turn off sound".

G-Tablet Screen Modification?

So I'm looking at a tablet, it's between the G-Tab and the Archos 101. I like the hardware better on the G-Tab, but keep reading negative things about the screen. Is it possible or has anyone attempted to turn the screen the correct way?
yea im very interested in this also. theres a thread on how to open it up, i mean if we could get a DIY for turning the screen itd be awesome. Help a lot in terms of viewing angles also
There May Be LCD Replacements in the future but atm None that I Know of. There are some that fit but the plugs seem to be wrong. Eather way it might be costly.
I honestly don't know what the big issue with the screen is. It works fine for me. Sure, you may have to move it a little bit one way or the other to find the sweet spot but I don't find it to be as big a deal as I hear people making it. What other tablet in this price range, performance, and size has a better screen? Maybe I am just not real picky but I don't mind the screen.
The only problem I see with physically turning the screen upside internally is some apps aren't built to rotate 180 degrees so if you were using the tablet correctly, all of a sudden an app would be upside down. I think a better idea is switching out the display entirely to something that works better. I would pay for this as I'm not very mechanically inclined with electronics.

[Q] Possibly Mechanical Question regarding screen blanking.

I've recently playing around with my Desire, and I noticed something a little odd, which I'm hoping someone who knows hardware better than me can answer. With most of them (specifically, RCMixS although I saw it happen with another,) when I press the power button to shut down/lock the screen, the screen does something unusual. Normally, when you do this, the screen blanks at once, all pixels simultaneously. With the custom one, it has a similar effect to the old-style CRT tvs/monitors (screen blanks from outside to middle, leaving middle line which then narrows and vanishes. Difficult to describe in words, but if you know old TV's, you'd have seen it.)
Question is, is this a side-effect of the software being a little too beefy for the classic desire's hardware to fully handle, or is it likely to be a bug?
LOL, it's a feature. It was introduced in Gingerbread and is well liked, which is why you'll also find it in custom ROMs. As you said, it is supposed to mimic an old CRT.

Colour me embarrassed. I was searching on screen blank rather than screen off
Ah well. I must say I'm going to buck the trend in that I actually prefer the old way. Ah well. Nothing stays the same Thanks for the heads-up.

Custom Screen Rotation Animation?

Does anyone know if it would be possible to have a screen rotation animation similar to the Droid 3 as seen in this video?
As you can see, the animation flows into place, as opposed to ours which just jumps or snaps into place. I really like the way it looks and I think it would look great on our Sensation 4G! If a rom developer could add something like this to their rom that would be awesome!
Well I guess by the silence the answer is no.
But it seems like with the next version of Sense were getting this feature. You can see it in action here (but you have to look closely because its just a flash).

[Q] screen causes neausea

I purchased a Nexus 5 within the past month. I love the ease of use and general setup, and although I selected red online, the phone itself is caution orange - but I quite like it as it's easy to find.
However, the screen makes me incredibly nauseous within minutes of use. I have tried dimming the lights and increasing the font size, but it does not make a difference. The screen itself makes me incredibly sick. After searching online, I learned that others have experienced the same symptoms after using certain Android phones. Why is this happening? I presume it is related to the LCD screen. Thanks...this phone was expensive.
I had the same problem but for me it was mostly after some intense gaming. I guess I just got used to it after a while cause it does not happen anymore. Some times it was so bad I thought I was gonna throw up.
Just wear sun glasses when Flashing and you will be cured!
Hard to say what's going on. My first guess is that it's the refresh rate on the screen.
Screen makes u nauseatic?
Flash makes u celebrity
Maybe its the animal porn you're watching? ?
But seriously, maybe flash a kernel with colour control and change the gamma values?

Are you using any screen protectors?
I have got this before, but that was switching from LCD to Amoled phones. Nexus 5 is LCD so there shouldn't be a problem.
If I use the matte type of screen protectors where colors are distorted, then the screen will actually make me dizzy.
I think it could happen with any phone, though bigger screens probably don't help. From what I can tell its usually caused by the difference between your eyes looking at the screen and your peripheral vision seeing everything around and behind your phone. I know some people who feel nauseous when using any 3"+ screen mobile and moving, so walking or in a vehicle even.
If that's the case you might be able to mitigate the issue by holding the screen closer to your face, but I don't think it's anything Android specific. Certainly not Nexus 5 specific.
It was big news when iOS7 launched. The culprit were the animations. Maybe reducing animations scale to .5x or .25x would help.

Homescreen icons

I have a S8+, and one thing that really annoys me is how there is about an inch or so at the top of the homescreen that can't be used for icons or widgets. Normally I would put the Google search bar there, but the highest it can go is about an inch off the notification bar at the top. *Really* annoying to have that space and not use it...
I don't really want to replace the launcher (at least not within 2 days of a brand new phone), so is there a way around it? Or do we have to wait until Samsung realises that the screen aspect ratio is slightly longer that a normal phone, and fixes the issue...
While I'm at it, is there a way to change the icon for a folder to use a specific icon (eg. first app in folder), rather than the usual bad looking (to my eyes at least) tiny apps inside the folder look? Otherwise I'm back to using Folder Organizer I guess... I know Nova probably sorts this all out, but it never 100% agreed with me for whatever reason and I always reverted eventually.
Finally, is there a way to get the AOD screen to appear on a clear flip case? Obviously it's being clever by turning off the display when the flip case is closed (magnet thingy embedded in the case), but as the case is clear(ish) then it defeats the point. Nice if there was a switch in options to keep the AOD screen active even if a case is closed on it, but I cannot find it...
Cheers
I never noticed it left that much spaceā€¦ . now it bugs me lol.
Yeah, it leaves a lot of space. Not sure why. You could fit another row of icons easily, but no go currently.

Fair enough. Thought as much. I'll give it a month, see if I reach unheard levels of OCD, and then install Nova if Samsung don't update. Will be about by 10th Nova install, but I always revert eventually. Always something that annoys me with it...
Stupid really, especially as it seems pretty obvious that it's about the right amount of space you gain from the extra length of the S8. Would bet the farm that Samsung forgot the new aspect ratio when it came to this. Honestly, there must be months of testing, and it's hard to believe it was missed.... Unless of course everyone at Samsung just installed Nova... Wouldn't be too surprised...
That AOD issue with the clear flip screen is well annoying though.... Really is a massive pain, especially when you can see right through the case, and even still use the touch screen (useful for answering calls without opening the case). Samsung does an amazing job on the screen, and then their own case has a compatibility issue....
Hmm, just noticed something... First day using while working, and a couple of times while wirelessly charging it has lost the wifi signal. Never (really really rarely) did that with my old Nexus 5. Don't like that considering I clicked on a notification icon on the AOD and it then tells me my network connection isn't available (and then connects before removing the notification so I don't know what it is). That's annoying... Sleep mode or something for wifi? Think I remember something similar years ago... Anyone?
Cheers
Use Nova Launcher and problem solved
@Crivensie, sounds like you're a bit like me. Nothing wrong with high expectations. About Samsung's testing though...I am not sure how thoroughly they test things because I found many bugs on the phone so far and I wasn't even trying. I'm not surprised at all at the issues you're having.
