Connect to ad-hoc easily with froyo. - Captivate General

So, thanks to a thread that showed that you can make a jig using only resistors, I decided to flash my phone since I now had a way to get into download mode easily(I bricked my first captivate with a i9000 rom and vowed to never flash again without a jig). I flashed to cognition 2.3b8. I then realized that since I've rooted my phone that I could look into connecting to ad-hoc networks. I came across this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7716862&postcount=24
I checked and I had wpa supplicant 0.6.10 so I flashed this pre-compiled version which allows you to see and connect to ad-hoc networks.
Sure enough, it worked like a charm.
TL;DR. go here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7716862&postcount=24) for a working
ad-hoc solution for froyo.
For a solution for 0.5.x wpa supplicant, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961. Not sure if this works.

Did it but still not working........
copied the wpa_supplicant file to the system/bin folder but still no detection......
at one time it did detect but was constantly and repeatedly "obtaining ip address"
please help!!!!!

Rooted and installed Android WiFi Tether. No worky!!

http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
So I rooted this morning, went well, no problems along the way. Immediately installed this Android Wifi Tether application (linked above) and it isn't working right.
Any computer I connect to the phone will get an IP assigned to it, it sees the gateway (phone) but it cannot ping it, cannot ping out to the internet.
IPConfig output looks like this:
IP Address: 192.168.1.103
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.254
I've tried following the FAQ on the site, tried reinstalling the config files whatever, no help. I've also tried enabling/disabling WEP security, makes no difference, the computer still connects and sees the network as unsecured. :wtf:
If there's a different application I should use let me know. I'm just wondering if there are other settings I should be playing with.
Are you on the stock ROM or a custom ROM?
Stock rom.

i think you may need to download an older version but i forgot which one, im running it right noe on Darch AOSP 2.1 and its running great
I think its one that has a pre1 in it
You should have a custom ROM to use that, I recommend MoDaCo's if you don't want your phone to change that much. Also, give mine a try
On MoDaCo now, working fine, wifi tether works flawlessly.
try this version out

although there was something in the stock rom that interfered (that most custom roms dont have), it DOES work with the pre1 version that was mentioned and posted... you do not HAVE to upgrade to a cooked rom.
Hi Guys,
You should download the 1.70 pre2 version. It will keep your phone from heating up so much like the earlier versions did. I've been using it on Fresh 1.1, Gumbo 1.5b, and the various 2.1 ROMS lately, all with great results.

Nice, I was having the same problem with 1.6 and installing 1.7 worked. I can't get encryption to work, but at least I can connect. I needed this as I'll be taking a road trip with my new laptop. So thanks!

I've been having exactly the same problem. I've just installed the Ryanza OCLF on my Australian Galaxy and now it is not connecting to the wifi in my house. The funny thing is that I haven't ran the lag fix because I haven't been able to root my phone (another issue all together). Will see if removing the OCLF will make a difference. I haven't got anything to back up my phone yet so I am reluctant to wipe it.

[Q] No WiFi post-root issue

I finally understood how to root my Inspire to take it over to my pre-paid T-Mobile, but, now, I can't get to the internet via WiFi. I've tried my wifi, as well as other connections around me, with no luck. The only way I can get internet on my phone is if I use the passthrough option. I'm running the stock 2.2 OS with no ROMs. Have I done something wrong...?
Additional Info:
Forgot to mention that I used the ace-hack, Version 11A. Also, I can scan for wifi networks, and I can connect. I have a good signal, and I can login to my router and see the phone listed. The "Mobile network" setting has been disabled since I won't be using data with T-Mobile. I've turned on Airplane Mode and tried to get to the internet that way, and the same thing still happens; I can see the networks, and I can connect, but, I have no data coming in or going out.
Any luck? I just ran through the same version of ace hack 11 and I'm experiencing the same problem. I can connect to any wi-fi with an excellent signal, but can't connect to the internet.

No ): I ran through AceHack11A again for giggles, and, I still have the issue. I'm thinkin' I may have to install the stock AT&T radio, but, from what I understand of it, the radio has nothing to do with wifi.
I'll save you the trouble of installing the stock radio, already tried it. I was able to get things working though... here's basically my chronology of things:
- Did step one of the reverse CID, god the goldcard.img emailed to me, no problems
- Did step 2, downgraded. After the downgrade, I could still use wi-fi at this point without issue.
- Step 3... this is where the wifi internet issue was introduced.
- Connected to the internet with via my PC with USB cable.
- Ran the one of the programs that was installed in step 3: Rom Manager (while connected to the internet). It made me download and install Flash ClockworkMod (all done through the rom manager gui).
- I bought the full version of Rom Manager. I removed the free version that was installed, re-installed the updated free version, then bought the premium rom manager.
- Within ROM manager, clicked on Download ROM and downloaded the CyanogenMod rom (I went with the regular CyanogenMod, not the nightlies version). Installed it, and everything works great.
You can probably tell I'm a total newb to android, hence the annoyingly detailed description of what I did. Give it a go, maybe it will work for you?
same problem here, after root
update:
Ok, I fixed installing a stock ROM from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Probably the problem has to be something with Rom Manager (is not present in the stock rom), I didn't check it anyway.
I have the same problem several days ago. I flashed the Revolution ROM, and it was resolved.

Hi, this is my first post on here. I searched the forums for this problem I just encountered that happened right after I plugged in my phone at work to get internet thru my PC using the data cable. At lunch time I went home and turned WiFi on and now it just keeps scanning and will not connect to my Wifi! It sees my WiFi which was working just fine since the day I brought it home. All this started because I wanted to try out using the data cable to get internet on my phone since my work doesn't have WiFi. I believe it has something to do with connecting thru the data cable pass-through connection. I am on stock ROM. I rooted the phone before but went back to stock ROM because it just seemed like too much maintenance for me at this time.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? Am I going to have to flash back to original ROM to fix this?
I searched some more on there and only found this other topic but since I'm not at home at I cannot confirm if changing it to charge only and restarting will fix the WiFi problem that I am having! I'll try this out later.

For anyone else having issues, please use this method.
NOTE: You DO NOT have to buy the full version of ROM Manager in order to fix the issue. The free version will work just fine.

[Q] Ad-hoc for CM9.1 build #9

Hi. Long time since i logged in here, but my question remains unanswered
I finally upgraded to CM9.1 build #9 in my HTC Explorer. The problem now is that i cannot connect to ad-hoc networks. Tried Connectify but it does not work, nor does any such Virtual Router software. Then i went and tried wpa_supplicant fix but could not find one that is compatible with my phone. I even thought of reverse tether but apparently it does not work too.
Any way thru this? Thanks in advance!

Connectify works if your wifi adapter supports AP mode(hosted network) otherwise it won't help. wpa_supplicant worked fine on stock ROM but unfortunately I didn't manage to get it to work on other ROMs

[Q] D2G wifi issues

Hello peoples, hoping for a little help here.
TLDR; After downgrading firmware (big mistake) from 629, i reflashed back to 629 only to discover that my wifi will either connect and work intermittently, or (as is the case ATM) my wifi will connect and immediately disconnect, everytime it connects. I would like some guidance on how to get wifi working consistently, regardless of what firmware i need to be on, or what rom I need to flash. If i can get a rom that has wifi and camera that would be a plus. I searched and found one or two threads on the issue but related to earlier OTA upgrades.
More details;
Accidentally phsically destroyed my SG S3 a week ago or so, which meant I had to go back to using my wifes Motorola Droid 2 Global
Decided that since I was stuck on Gingerbread, and that since Verizon doesnt care about D2G anymore, I was going to root and upgrade, so I started researching and experimenting. That was my first mistake
So I;
- Tried to downgrade to 2.4.330 firmware per the (wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_droid2we) Cyanogenmod wiki instructions for droid 2 global, which "soft bricked" my device (stuck in bootloader with a "service req'd" message). From doing a bunch of searching online and reading, I'm guessing its because the phone was previously on the latest version of android pushed to the droid 2 global, namely, 4.5.629.
- I then found (rootzwiki.com/topic/23207-how-to-sbf-unbricking-root-d2g-629/"official 629 sbf) and reflashed my device with that (the link at the top of the thread)
- I dont remember everything I did next (or if i even tested wifi at that point), but i know the device booted and "looked normal". I know I then rooted with framaroot, and installed bootstrap mod (1.0.0.5), and did a bootstrap recovery (im guessing this is synonymous with installing clockwork mod??)
- Found and flashed (installed?) CM9-D2-01032013.zip (cant post links, sorry new user restriction) -- rootzwiki.com/topic/28082-d2d2gdx-cm9-build-thread/page-90
- The rom installed fine, but when I booted up, and tried to use wifi, the wifi would connect, but the internet wouldnt work (no response from any website).
- I downloaded some kind of "wizard" bootloader, that had a wifi fix (sorry I cant find the link). I rebooted into the bootloader, ran the wi-fi fix, and then rebooted. No luck (no change).
- I figured it was an issue with the ROM, so I flashed liquid_droid2we-ics-v1.62.zip
- Unfortunately, the same issue persisted.
- I then reflashed BACK to 4.5.629, using the --(cant post links apparently since im a new user) (rootzwiki.com/topic/23207-how-to-sbf-unbricking-root-d2g-629) -- "official 629 sbf"
- Wifi STILL does not work. At first it connected, and was responding, and then it stopped responding.
- Wiped cache partition
- Wiped data/factory reset
- wifi now connects, then disconnects immediately.
I'm at a loss here. I am on 4.5.629 using the official ROM, I tried a factory reset after a cache clear. I even found some suggestions about turning battery saver mode off, which I did. WTH am I doing wrong?
EDIT 9/19: Just discovered that I can connect to insecure networks just fine. I've read about changing my router settings as a possible fix, but I cant do that for any router thats not my own. In addition the wifi was working on my router before, with the same settings, so the phone broke somewhere along the way.
I was able to resolve the wifi issues I was having by simply unplugging my modem and router (though just rebooting the router would have probably fixed it). I don't know exactly what caused the issues, but it was probably multiple factors, including having a droid2 and droid2global right next to each other trying wifi, flashing multiple roms, and having dd-wrt firmware on my router (or all of the above). In anycase, doing a reboot of the router, caused wifi to work again consistently on both my droids.
