I just got a brand new replacement evo from sprint that came with froyo 2.2 on it.
I rooted using this method
and now I am on the stock 2.2 rom that came with unrevoked pt 2. when flashing
I've installing 5 different versions of wifi tether and none of them work
windows just says "no network access"
then when I plug in USB and select "usb tether" from the dropdown
I get "error 67. Registration Failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. please try again."
I have a feeling it has something to do with this particular version of Root I did.
I have superuser access and can delete sprint apps.
but in adb shell I still see $
because last time I rooted wifi tether worked like a charm, and the stock htc usb tether also worked no questions asked.
I know I could always use pda net, but it's nice to know the phone will work out of the box with any computer.
any words of wisdom on this? should I just install some custom rom that has it built in? I rather like the stability of stock Roms.
was I supposed to flash radio? I really have no idea and have been trying to figure this out for a few hours now.
Android Version: 2.2
baseband version: 2.15.00.07.28
kernel version: 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0
software number: 3.26.651.6
browser version: Webkit 3.1
PRI version 1.40_003
Use android tether
I could never get the sprint/htc apps to work. I'm using the android wired/wireless tether apps and they work fine.
Just google android wifi tether and android wired tether, I can't post links.
So...
I have the same issue with my evo I just purchased... were you able to fix it? Neither of those programs worked for me.
Not working for me as well...
i just got my evo friday oct 15th... fresh root and wifi tether is not working, seems to want to activate the sprint tether as well, im thinking i have to load a new rom and ditch the stock rom.... in order for it to work, kinda bums me out, didnt wanna mess with the roms out there... any advice on how to remove the sprint tether app ?
wifi tether
I just recently got my evo also and was running into the same problems as yall. After lots of research and deleting stuff off of the phone that i wasnt supposed to i had to flash back to complete stock and reroot with unrevoked3. as it turns out only certain kernels work with the wifi tether. and as far as the sprint native wifi or tethered ones those you have to pay for. its an extra 30 bucks a month. the unrevoked3 method seemed to be the easiest method out. but thats just my opinion. hoped this helped out guys. oh yeah the unrevoked3 root works just fine with the wifi tether (rooted)

What process did you use? Does that include the USB tether as well?
I don't think the usb tether works with the WiFi tether. I am pretty sure it is just a wireless tether. The unrEVOked3 method I used was the latest one from the website.
Sent from my unrEVOked3 EVO using the XDA app.
I run Fresh and havn't had problems with tethering.

The USB tether fix supposedly works for wifi too. It disables authentication so you can use the stock hotspot app.
can you confirmed you have root? use the unrevoked forever method, quite easy. the next thing is install Wireless Tether for root, idk why hotspot is turning on. at this point it's useless.
if your haveing problems useing android wifi tether 2.02 on your rooted evo witch is the one offerd in Market then goto android wifi tether site and download the experimental version 2.05 copy the .apk to SD card and install it, it works great
I finally understood how to root my Inspire to take it over to my pre-paid T-Mobile, but, now, I can't get to the internet via WiFi. I've tried my wifi, as well as other connections around me, with no luck. The only way I can get internet on my phone is if I use the passthrough option. I'm running the stock 2.2 OS with no ROMs. Have I done something wrong...?
Additional Info:
Forgot to mention that I used the ace-hack, Version 11A. Also, I can scan for wifi networks, and I can connect. I have a good signal, and I can login to my router and see the phone listed. The "Mobile network" setting has been disabled since I won't be using data with T-Mobile. I've turned on Airplane Mode and tried to get to the internet that way, and the same thing still happens; I can see the networks, and I can connect, but, I have no data coming in or going out.
Any luck? I just ran through the same version of ace hack 11 and I'm experiencing the same problem. I can connect to any wi-fi with an excellent signal, but can't connect to the internet.

No ): I ran through AceHack11A again for giggles, and, I still have the issue. I'm thinkin' I may have to install the stock AT&T radio, but, from what I understand of it, the radio has nothing to do with wifi.
I'll save you the trouble of installing the stock radio, already tried it. I was able to get things working though... here's basically my chronology of things:
- Did step one of the reverse CID, god the goldcard.img emailed to me, no problems
- Did step 2, downgraded. After the downgrade, I could still use wi-fi at this point without issue.
- Step 3... this is where the wifi internet issue was introduced.
- Connected to the internet with via my PC with USB cable.
- Ran the one of the programs that was installed in step 3: Rom Manager (while connected to the internet). It made me download and install Flash ClockworkMod (all done through the rom manager gui).
- I bought the full version of Rom Manager. I removed the free version that was installed, re-installed the updated free version, then bought the premium rom manager.
- Within ROM manager, clicked on Download ROM and downloaded the CyanogenMod rom (I went with the regular CyanogenMod, not the nightlies version). Installed it, and everything works great.
You can probably tell I'm a total newb to android, hence the annoyingly detailed description of what I did. Give it a go, maybe it will work for you?
same problem here, after root
update:
Ok, I fixed installing a stock ROM from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Probably the problem has to be something with Rom Manager (is not present in the stock rom), I didn't check it anyway.
I have the same problem several days ago. I flashed the Revolution ROM, and it was resolved.

Hi, this is my first post on here. I searched the forums for this problem I just encountered that happened right after I plugged in my phone at work to get internet thru my PC using the data cable. At lunch time I went home and turned WiFi on and now it just keeps scanning and will not connect to my Wifi! It sees my WiFi which was working just fine since the day I brought it home. All this started because I wanted to try out using the data cable to get internet on my phone since my work doesn't have WiFi. I believe it has something to do with connecting thru the data cable pass-through connection. I am on stock ROM. I rooted the phone before but went back to stock ROM because it just seemed like too much maintenance for me at this time.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? Am I going to have to flash back to original ROM to fix this?
I searched some more on there and only found this other topic but since I'm not at home at I cannot confirm if changing it to charge only and restarting will fix the WiFi problem that I am having! I'll try this out later.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973514
For anyone else having issues, please use this method.
NOTE: You DO NOT have to buy the full version of ROM Manager in order to fix the issue. The free version will work just fine.

What ROM are you running?
I am running the stock version of Gingerbread on my phone and just noticed today that the WIFI tethering option is not working. I don't live in the US and my phone is SIM unlocked.
When I select the WIFI tethering option I get a message to contact AT&T to purchase a tethering plan, I guess they did this to prevent people in the US from doing it since it was possible to do it with the Froyo version by deleting the APN settings.
I downloaded a widget that let me do the tethering once but not anymore.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?
Yes. Quit using the att stock rom.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
apn
follow this and use the guide to get free wifi teather on your phone.
http://www.unigizmo.com/1696/steps-by-steps-guide-–-to-enable-data-tethering-on-htc-inspire-4g
That will only work for Froyo but not Gingerbread . The new ROM won't even let you use those APN settings
I guess I will have to go back to stock Froyo. I did rooted once and instaled Coredroid but had to many annoying issues. Oh well hopefully someone will find a fix that doesn't involved rooting and whatnot. But thanks anyways
I have the GB too and I can confirm the old workaround doesn't work around and more.
I'm hoping for a new way .... Does anyone know of a fix or a 3rd party app that will provide the same functionality?
I've never "rooted" a phone before. I have the HTC Inspire and I was hoping to.
Can I root the GB version that is already installed? There is a Wireless Tethering app that won't work and asks .... Is your device rooted?
Hi everyone,
So far I haven't found any fix for the WIFI tethering or an app available in the Android market that will bypass that. So I just went back to Stock Froyo using the official RUU from HTC
About rooting, yeah sounds a bit complicated but if you follow all the steps then you'll be fine. I was kinda scared when I attempted to root my phone. I used the hack kit or whatever was called and I worked, make a search and you will find the guide. Then I installed CoreDroid V7 but it had some annoying issues, no random reboots or force closes though. Then after a week of using that ROM I read about the GB official updated and I downloaded the RUU. I gotta say the phone got a bit faster but today I discovered the WIFI tethering thing and it is something I use, maybe not all the time but is a great tool when there is no WIFI available to connect your computer to the Internet.
I shall update to GB when someone finds a fix for that. Good luck you all
Something you can try. I don't know if it will still work but if you turn airplane mode on and all at&t signal is off then turn on your wifi and go to the market and search for wifi tether apps.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I did try that. What I did was to put the phone in AP mode and it would let me activate the tethering option but as soon as I enabled the mobile connection I would get the same message that I need to call bla bla.
But Froyo will do alright for me right now. I didn't see any noticeable changes in the GUI in comparison with GB but GB does manage the resources better and improves the battery life. Next time I'll get a phone that is not carrier branded LOL
Bobbypty, I am having the exact same problem and want to do what you did when you say "So I just went back to Stock Froyo using the official RUU from HTC."
Can you please point me in the right direction as to how to obtain Stock Froyo from HTC? I have been to their site and can't find it, and I've searched the forums here and elsewhere on the web and can't find anything specific to this. I would really appreciate your help since it sounds like you have done EXACTLY what I want to do!
What's up?
Here is the direct download for the RUU and this will install the stock 2.2 for the phone. You will need to install the HTC sync in order to run it. Just double clicked on the exe file and you shouldn't have any problems. Make sure your phone has 30%+ of battery.

Is that going to downgrade radio as well? Thanks in advance.
Yup.
Everything will go back to stock. Radio version 12.39.60.19H_26.06.04.06_M Android version 2.2.1
Hi everyone,
Seems that there is no fix for this right now since the ROM for this phone is branded by ATT unlike the Desire HD (Close sister to this phone) is a unbranded HTC ROM.
So pretty much the options we have is either to go back to stock Froyo or root the phone and then install a custom ROM that is based off the DHD Gingerbread ROM, I've been reading other forums and the custom ROMs based from the Inspire 4G will still have the WIFI tethering option blocked, so stay away from those. Make sure the ROM you are installing is based from the DHD. Try Coredroid, Cyanogenmod or whatever you like. Rooting this phone is not that complicated and I was able to do it with a little help.
Good luck with the rooting/flashing if you decide to go for that. Search for Ace Hack Kit for instructions.
I was able to get wireless tethering working on an AT&T gingerbread ROM, I modifed the apn xml before i flashed it, I modified APN Type to * for all of the AT&T / ATT/ medianet entries in the file (except for the mms apn that exists in there). I can upload my file when I get home or you can download my ROM from the rom thread (static nonsense) and grab it from /system/etc. Theres also an apn file in /system/framework/framework-res.apk inside the xml folder, Mine is more or less blank, so you may want to replace that file as well. Just a thought anyways

That's essentially what I did in InspirePhacopida and that works on my phone, but I was able to do it on my wife's stock phone by just adding an APN, so who knows?
Hi Gene and beerbaronstatic,
First of all thanks for the assistance.
I guess that for me to do that I'll have to flash the ROM via rooting and whatnot or did you modify a file within the RUU so I can just run that and flash it as if I was the regular ROM?
Regards
Robert

No. You can't modify an RUU zip. They are signed by HTC. If you modify one, or make an unsigned one from scratch, then you must have S-OFF so that the hboot loader ignores the signature (or lack thereof).
This is Gingerbread 2.3.3 on the Inspire NOT Froyo 2.2
Thanks anywho....
Yes. The WIFI tethering option WILL NOT work on the stock Gingerbread ROM of the HTC Inspire, this will only work with stock Froyo by manually setting the APN.
If you want to have the WIFI tethering option with GB, then you will have to root the phone to install a custom ROM based off the Desire HD which is the European version of the Inspire. Coredroid is the only one I've used so far but right now I went back to stock Froyo.
I have the Huawei E220 3G USB dongle and I read that a Revolver rom or Prime rom have more things (HSDPA driver...) built in to support a 3G dongle.
What is the latest rom that supports those 3G dongle's, can anyone post a link please as there are so much roms, and [3G] isn't always mentionned in the titles.
The latest one I found was a Revolver from April but we are August now, maybe there are newer ones meanwhile.
Do I need to install something extra on the tablet in order to recognise the 3G dongle then, maybe a 3G toggler.
How can you get into bootloader mode again, I forgot, I tried volume up + power off but only a black screen, not the android robot.
At the moment I work with ww-9.2.1.11-CWM-full-rooted rom
Thanks!

only megatron rom supports 3g dongle. search for it.
Thanks, I found the Megatron 1.1.6 is this the latest now that supports my Huawei E220 ?
The latest "Jellybean CyanogenMod 10 ♦ B5" seems nice but 3G doesn't work yet is stated and I don't know if it supports my Huawei.
Yesterday I searched the whole evening to flash this rom, but I have big trouble in clockworkmod recovery
When I select to install a zip from SDCARD it says that it didn't find the SD card, but today suddenly it works?!
Does the Huawei work directly when the rom is flashed when connecting via usb, or do I have to do some other actions first?
I also would like to know where I can download the Clockwork Touch recovery for free + how to install it.
I downloaded a rar file which contains .IMG file but I have no clue how to install this....

Is that true? I read around alot (for about some weeks now - and I had read a lot even before I got
my 3G-Stick) and actually there are some roms pretending to be able to support 3G.
Till now (and still want to) I used Revolver 4.1.1 and was pretty happy. Fast, reliable, no boots no nothing. Just
totally perfect for me.
Only disadvantage: No 3G. Even though there is a 3G enabler... which doesn't work at all. Well... it enables
"Mobile Settings" but manual search doesnt work, neighter the automatic one. Same with APN-Settings. So
what exactly is the point to get mobile settings, if they wont work anyway in the first place? Don't get it.
Am I doing something wrong?
I tried Megatron... but its Honeycomb, no? :/ Suxx. Lags on performance on many edges and also I don't like
the UI / Homescreen / Keyboard Layout and I'm not much into customizing. Also I jsut like the ASUS Style.
I'm kinda certain, that there will be problems (didn't try yet, coz the Backup is about 3GB) if I'd try to restore my Revolver 4.1.1 backup on it.
So I abandonned it again pretty fast (Even though 3G worked as a charm :/ ). Isn't there possibility to get Revolver to run
with my Huawei 161? Well I'm not a pro but I somehow can't imagin, why it should be so hard to get Revolver to work with
3G if even a Honeycomb Rom can?
I would have tried Prime 2.1 Vanilla... but all DL-Links I found are broken. The old Prime is way too outdated for my personal
demands to an up-to-date-rom.
Thanks, Pete

Your question is an interesting one, Innovator.
My official Asus ROM does not recognizes any operator network (even when unlocking that menu using "3GToggler" apk), but PPP Widget still does succeed. So I think that PPP Widget will probably work with that Cyanogen ROM (a great ROM, at my opinion) and you will have 3G data. Attending to its results, PPP Widget seems to include drivers, connection DLLs and so on; it is a great program, I will soon donate to the author.
Could you, please, post the results if you do test it? I wanna know what happens.

I have PPP Widget right now with CyanoGenMOD 10 v6 in my SL101 Slider. I use a Huawei USB 3G modem, and I can navigate (even SSH, VNC... etc) without a problem.
Speed (acording to tests) is fantastic, but I have only tested it in a low populated area (you know: mobile internet slowdowns when there are many users nearby... or so I think).

Thanks. I am running a stock ROM, and would love to know if PPP widget works on stock rom before I buy a 3g dongle.

Mine is a Huawei E1752C. Maybe the PPP Widget documentation or WhatsNew.log will tell what USB 3G devices are supported?

I can confirm that PPP Widget on a TF101 stock ROM (I'm currently on .27) supports 3g dongles - my specific dongle is a ZTE MF190, but you might want to have a look at the PPP Widget home page and the support forum to ensure you purchase one that is known to work. I can't post links at the moment, but I'm sure you can add 'www' to the beginning for yourself.

Have been using PPP Widget on my TF101 Revolver 4.0.3 - 4.2.1 With Huawai E161 - Flawless.
Worked great. Has some issues while reconnecting and stuff, but still the most easiest and best working solution.
The widget actually kinda annoyes while changing the desktops. Produces lags etc while initilizing.
Hi Guys.. I own an T-Mobile branded HTC One S with the S4 processor.
Here's the problem: I can't connect to Wi-Fi at my job... and only at my job. I can connect at home just fine with my personal router, and just about everywhere else. What's interesting to note though is that I only can't connect when using an AOSP/AOKP-based ROM and also when using the latest STOCK T-Mobile USA Jellybean ROM.
The phone can connect from both at work and at home when running stock ICS and when running ViperROM 2.0, which I believe is based on the European JB update, not the American one.
At work, we have these Cisco MERU wireless access points throughout the building. The phone can pick up the SSID (we have two SSID's actually; one for guests and one for corporate) but I can't connect to either one. When I try to connect, the phone says "Scanning, Connecting to ..., Disconnected" and just loops. If I go into the more detailed Wi-Fi view, I see the name of the SSID I am trying to connect to, and underneath it says "Saved, Secured." Eventually it changes from "Saved, Secured" to "Authentication Problem."
I actually work in two seperate buildings that both have these Cisco MERU access points, and both buildings give me the same problem. They are using WPA2-AES
I have tinkered and tinkered for weeks now, and eventually lost SuperCID and S-OFF. I thought I could fix the problem by going back to stock everything. Little did I know that upgrading to the latest T-Mobile USA JB would no longer allow you to S-OFF and SuperCID. Anyway, even on this latest stock ROM, I can't connect at work. Like I said, I could only connect when I was on ICS or on a European JB ROM.
Just for a little background, this isnt the same Wi-Fi problem everyone else is having where they need to flash the "extra JB partitions" zip file or the "Archive.zip" file floating around. Even the "temporary radio installer.zip" doesnt solve this.
Is there any way at all that I can extract the Wi-Fi "drivers" from ViperROM 2.0 and install them on my phone for use with the latest USA JB ROM???
Here are my phone stats by the way:
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.15.000
RADIO-1.13.50.05.31
And I am running the latest T-Mobile USA Jellybean stock ROM which I got from using the latest RUU. (RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.11_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2)
I would really, really, really appreciate any feedback from someone a lot smarter than I am. I know I typed a ton.
It seems like there's some kind of Wi-Fi "security protocol"(for lack of a better term) or what-not that this latest JB update doesn't support. For some reason ICS supported it, but the American JB and AOSP/AOKP do not. I obviously can't change what kind of security the Wi-Fi at my job uses, so I'm really thinking there must be a way to just copy the Wi-Fi "drivers" (for lack of a better term) from ICS or from ViperROM and put them on my phone.
Does anyone know how to do this? Is this even possible? I read something about /etc/lib and something involving .ko files, but I would just like someone with a little more expertise than myself to chime in.
In case anyone is actually curious(I doubt it) I at least made SOME progress. I can now get Wi-Fi to work on Sense-based roms that are based on the latest T-Mobile USA Jellybean OTA. Here's what I had to do:
S-OFF'd my device using "Moonshine" method (THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!)
1. Flashed ViperROM 2,2
1. Using "Root Explorer" app I copied every file in /system/lib/modules folder from ViperROM 2.2 and put them on my SD card.
2. Flashed "United Basics" ROM (based on JB OTA)
3. Confirmed that Wi-Fi was working at home, but not at work.
4. Copied all of the modules from Viper to /system/lib/modules and overwrote everything using "Root Explorer"
5. Rebooted into recovery.
6. Flashed "Sense-Radio-Installer-v6.zip" from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998270 and made sure I selected the checkbox for "Sense Wi-Fi fix" (it's selected by default)
7. Rebooted back into system and bam... Wi-Fi now works perfectly.
Flashing the "sense radio installer" alone was not able to fix the problem; you have to copy those modules first. Now I just need a similar method to get this to work on AOSP/AOKP roms.

First, I just want to thank you for taking time out to read this thread and offer a solution. Unfortunately, flashing that zip file didn't work. As a matter of fact, after flashing it, I can't even turn Wi-Fi on at all anymore. I tried flashing it in the Xperia Z ROM by Taylor_Swift and Dark Jelly S Edition Build 31. In both cases, I couldn't turn Wi-Fi on anymore after flashing your zip. But thank you for trying.

Oops!! You mentioned that you are on stock ROM! So, that fix is intended to work ONLY on Stock or Sense based ROMs.

Oh OK. In my latest update, I mentioned that I already found a fix for stock/Sense-based ROMs. I am now looking for a fix for any non-Sense ROMs. I tried the "temporary-radio-installer but that doesn't do it.
I did manage to find ONE non-Sense ROM where the Wi-Fi actually works at my job. It's a ROM called "liquid_ville-ics-eng.v1.5mr1"
I am trying to see if I can somehow copy some files from that ROM to get my job's Wi-Fi working on other, newer non-Sense ROMs. That ROM is ICS-based and so is a little too outdated for me.
Thanks again, though. At least you tried.
