Ok so after getting tired of the darn Facebook app using m.facebook.com for EVERYTHING, I decided to finally take matters into my own hands.
I updated all URL references in the app to now use the touch.facebook.com url. The only one that caused issue was the SHARE url that is launched whenever you try to share a link in Android with Facebook.
Unfortunately Facebook only offers http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php and http://m.facebook.com/sharer.php but no touch-site version. I tried using the full-site version of their share link but it never worked correctly so had to revert to mobile link
Anyways enjoy everyone.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING (ADB METHOD)
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/Facebook.apk
adb shell rm /data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]
adb push Facebook.zip /system/app/Facebook.apk
*** One thing to note is I rebooted after removing the existing Facebook app. I didn't add that step above as I'm hoping it was not required. My reasoning for rebooting is just in case Android kept the existing Facebook.apk signature in memory. Since this is a modded Facebook.apk I signed it with a developer key. If you have trouble, try removing your Facebook.apk and reboot and then push the modded copy.
IF YOU HAD FACEBOOK CONTACTS SYNC DO THE FOLLOWING
Open the Facebook App
Hit your menu key, open "Settings"
Scroll to the bottom and open "Sync Contacts" and re-enable sync
Don't bother trying to re-add Facebook in the Account Manager in Android, just do it from within Facebook as described above.
this man is genius! i hate the mobile site
cool, nice... would try it!
odd, i prefer the m. site and mine always reverts to the touch site with the user agent specified as android...

can we get this in an update.zip please
device froze a number of times while contact photos are synchronizing
also after sync, merged contacts needs to be merged again, and two entries of "view facebook profile" will be shown under view contact.
@k3vink3vin have you install a Desire rom before cause two facebook entry in contact can be due to Desire rom which haven't the same system for syncing facebook contact info in phone's contact

yes I ran Desire rom before, it leaves some facebook id under notes for merged contacts. Currently running Cyan 5.0.7.1.
I have fixed the problem by nandroid restoring, remove facebook sync before removing Facebook.apk, push modded Facebook.zip and setup sync again.
I still get occasional FCs when scrolling through Friends in Facebook App.

When you get the occasional FC can you please view your logs and send me a dump so we can see exactly what is causing your FC? I am able to scroll through FB friends with no FC ever.

have been scrolling for like 10mins and couldn't get it to FC!
I believe it is related to the kernel I was using (wildmonks' 33.5 CFS 925mV). I flashed pershoot's latest .34 and the FCs are gone
Another problem though, I am synchronizing all facebook contacts to my contact list. In my phone contacts, all facebook contacts are included, however, many of their profile photos won't load (more than half of my facebook contacts). Tapping into the contact and tap on facebook view profile opens the facebook app and sees their profile photo and wall no problem.
Is there any way to force the photos to re-sync?

Nope, I've had that issue since loading Froyo even with the stock Facebook app. Try erasing the Note section on each contact that should have its picture synced, then merge the contact with the facebook contact, go to accounts & settings in android->settings and refresh the facebook sync.

Google Contact Sync on Facebook
Thank so much shafty the facebook app works well now
might be off topic but has anyone tried this? It allows matching your friends on facebook to your google contacts so that it syncs their contact photo and birthday.

Guess I'll disable facebook sync and give it a go.

Ya I've just been slammed with work and haven't had any free time to hack. I technically didn't have time to hack the Facebook app but I just got so sick of the mobile site and wanted the touch site.

That would mean you don't have Facebook installed currently or if you do then it is installed to /data/app/Facebook.apk instead.

Daily, my Gmail will no longer sync with the web version and even though the mobile inbox shows no literally unread messages, the counter will have a number above 0. I am able to clear this by working in the web inbox but should not have to.
I have read everywhere that the solution seems to be clearing the data and cache from the application Gmail Storage but I do not have this application listed under Settings - Applications - All.
I have a HTC Hero CDMA currently running CM6.0 with the latest version of Gapps flashed (gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip). I restored my nandroid of my stock rom and was able to see Gmail Storage. Using Titanium Backup, I backed up just the Gmail Storage portion but was unable to install it due to it being a .tar. I did find out that Gmail Storage corresponds to the file GmailProvider.apk. The latest Gapps zips listed do not contain the GmailProvider.apk.
I have tried manually installing the GmailProvider.apk and also using Terminal Emulator to copy the file from my SD card into /system/app. I was able to get the apk visible in /system/app but after reboot, I was still unable to see Gmail Storage in my applications list.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I am missing? Do the new versions of Gapps no longer use the GmailProvider.apk for installing/running Gmail Storage?
Thank you for any help anyone can offer.
I am bumping this because I am having the same issue.
I receive Gmail messages fine. I can read them and everything.
However, when I archive them, they disappear from the inbox view but the counter still includes them. And if I log in to Gmail.com on the web, I can see the "archived" messages still sitting in my inbox marked Unread.
Also, sending messages from the application doesn't work. They just sit in my outbox.
The application is behaving as if it can only read my Gmail account, and cannot create or modify. It's really weird and any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am rooted running CM 6.1.1 and flashed gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip from goo-inside.me
Guys, at some point, not sure when, my check boxes to select sync options on Google accounts is missing. If I go to Menu>>Settings>>Accounts and select my Google account, the options for checking/unchecking Calendar, Contacts, etc. is missing. Any idea why they went missing? Phone is rooted using Z4Root and I do have gmail.apk renamed to gmail.bak. Not sure why this is happening. There could be a few other files renamed to remove bloatware.
Any ideas? I want to add another Google account and turn off sync for everything except Reader.
Android Version: 2.2
System Version: Version.2.4.330.A956.Verizon.en.US
Thanks.
Being that you renamed one of the main programs it would sync to, it prob thinks that it has nothing to sync. I would suggest reinstalling the Gmail app, as it is not in any way bloatware.

Do you know if the Gmail.apk package is used to sync contacts and calendar as well? Thanks for your advice. I will try it soon and report back.
negative, renamed Gmail.bak back to Gmail.apk with no success.
Any ideas?
Naming it back does not actually reinstall it. I found that out the hard way when I very first rooted my phone. You'll actually have to go thru the market and redownload and install.
As for it actually syncing, it there are other packages there that handle the syncing, how directly or indirectly I am not sure though. However, it is very likely that they still interact with each other, which means you just suddenly stripping it of something it expects to be there is quite likely to cause an array of possible problems.
I noticed inside my SDCard a folder named PDU_log. In there are files like sms114.pdu and so over. When i opened one of them with text editor it shows a sms that i sent. Is this a security warning ? Google gave me no answers and i found one thread in hd2 section but nothing was conclusive
Anyone? It bothers me a lot and i also noticed that if you delete the folder reappears again after reboot
What ROM are you running? I looked through everything on my SD card with Root Explorer and I don't have that folder.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
I'm running RUU_Pyramid_S_HTC_Europe_2.08.401.1_Radio_11.59.35 04.00U_11.16.3504.16_M, and i can confirm same folder on my SD. All my text messages are in that folder. It look like sms backup. BTW i deleted all my text messages in inbox, but is still have them in PDU_LOG folder. I deleted PDU_LOG folder, after reboot i have him again, this time empty
I'm running InsertCoin 3.4.6 and also have this folder on my SD-Card. The messages are stored in cleartext (with a space between each character) and the files also contain the recipient's phone number.
I would really like to know where this folder and files come from as I don't like my messages being backed up automatically without me setting this up.
pdu_log
Same here, insertcoin 3.4.6, PSU_log reappears after deleting. Sms and mms backup with phone numbers inside. I noticed a strange behavior as well, as I just deleted that folder I instantly saw a download notification in the notification area, pulled it down it was blank and disappeared shortly after... I find that very very strange.
UPDATE:
I just removed my HTC Sense account and the folder has disappeared. Based on this observation I'd say it's syncing with your HTC Sense account, for what reason, I don't know as there are no related options under the HTC account sync settings... Interesting..
I'm posting this because I've googled this issue to death and I'm not getting anywhere. Nothing I've seen on there has worked. Maybe one of you guys might point me in the right direction.
The problem occurs happens when trying to export my contacts to a .vcf file using the My Contacts app and my calendar to an .ics file with Simple Calendar Pro.
Contact app says: No app was found to handle this action.
Calendar app says: System service for selecting files and folders in unavailable
While we're talking 2 separate apps and 2 separate types of files, I can't help but think these 2 issues are somehow married to each other.
Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this other than doing a full factory reset?
Is Calendar Storage on your phone?
Contacts storage app is on your phone?
This happens when there no calendar storage app on phone, or its just an app malfunction.
Try stock calendar.

I did that and it's not working either. The contacts app won't export .vcf files either. I also tried to back up my Nova launcher configuration and got a similar message.

I'm fairly certain this is a "My Contacts" app issue than a Pixel 7/Android 13 issue; I'm guessing it's because it's not the stock Contacts app or something.

In Android something (a while back, maybe 10 or 9), apps would need special permission to access anything, even on the internal sd directory. This most likely has to do something with that. Most of the time the app states it needs permissions and you have to direct it to the root directory/device and "allow access". I'm trying to remember this from the top of my head, so it is vague, but it's something like this.

I'm curious what shows up when you select "Share" from the stock Contacts app....What do you mean "won't export"? Like through messaging, email, Telegram, Whatsapp, bluetooth, Nearby Share, etc.? All of them?

I just looked all over the stock Contacts app on the Pixel 7 Pro. There are a ton of items to either configure or do other stuff, but nowhere is there anything for sharing. I don't believe the problem is there. I just shared a picture with the Gallery app and it worked.
By "not export" I mean that the Contacts app won't export the contacts to a .vcf file which can be stored as a backup and reimported later. When I try it I get the error message I mentioned. I'm having the same issue with the Calendar app. It will not export to an .ics file. Importing does work, the problem is exporting.
I've checked all permissions for both these app. Everything is allowed and the problem persists. :-(

You need a file explorer to export with do you have the Google Files program frozen/deleted or an alternative installed? I use MiXplorer and the app opens when I export contacts to choose a location to export.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere
I have Files by Google installed and working, as well as Total Commander and X-Plore. All permissions active except for notifications. Shouldn't at least one of these do the trick? Or is there another issue going on somewhere?
Is there something special about MiExplorer that these other proggies lack?

Sorry I should've been more clear i meant an app when viewing all apps in device settings ➡ Show System apps it will be called "Files" or MAYBE I think "Documents UI" the package name is com.google.android.documentsui if you have this installed & enabled I unfortunately don't have any suggestions. I've only had this same problem when accidentally removing this app when debloating my phones. I did freeze it, uninstall MiXplorer and installed both the apps you mentioned and got the same error about exporting. I don't know why it works for me with just MiXplorer and not those other apps though.

When you hold down on a contact, you don't see the "share" option? The 3 dots aligned like a sidewards triangle?

If I hold down on any contact and tap the "share" button, that's the only way it tries to share it -- as a .vcf file; and it offers like 10 options to send/share that .vcf file...

As long as it is given permission to "contacts" and probably "modify system settings" is set to Allowed...that should be enough...
I was able to make a copy of the vcf file through the phone app I checked the folder on Google files so you deffo have a problem have you tried clearing the cache of the apps un installed the apps updates and reinstalled the updates if those don't work I think a back up and factory reset would fix it
It may not be in the contacts app that your solution lies. If I'm understanding correctly. It may be the app that you're trying to import the contacts too. I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly, you're trying to import these things to the simple contacts app? You shouldn't have to do anything with the Google contacts app itself. It's likely to be something you would do on your Google account and not actually in an app but in a browser
Sorry, no idea why that posted twice.

Kudos to you, dude! I googled the package name you mentioned and someplace there was a download link for something called "documentsui-t-frc-doc-3304430". I brought it down and gave it a shot. IT WORKED!! Both the contacts and the calendar file export services work flawlessly. The full name of the package is "com.google.android.documentsui.theme.pixel". It shows up as a system app on the App Manager program. There is no icon anywhere. But hey, it does the job. Thanks for your help.
Now tell me why I'm having trouble updating Windows 11 and installing apps from the Windows Store. Yeah, I know, it's not what we discuss on this forum. But you know quite a bit. Maybe you could point me in the right direction. Once again, googling isn't getting me anywhere.

Hopefully the moderators won't be mad at me for posting this on a Google Pixel Pro forum. I'll try to keep it brief. Hopefully someone can point me elsewhere.
Whenever I try to update something or download from the Windows Store, it gives me a 0x80070001 error. I've been able to download and install updates and store apps manually. The problem is that sometimes this method works and sometimes it doesn't.
I installed something call Windows 10 Privacy. I've been using it since before upgrading to Windows 11. I emailed the developer and he suggested re-enabling all tabs that block telemetry. It didn't work.
I'm convinced that just like the problem I had with the phone, this has to be due to some detail somewhere. But where? Googling hasn't helped. There are billions of suggestions on there to fix the 0x80070001, and none work.
Any ideas..
