[Q] Gmail not syncing; NO Gmail Storage application - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Daily, my Gmail will no longer sync with the web version and even though the mobile inbox shows no literally unread messages, the counter will have a number above 0. I am able to clear this by working in the web inbox but should not have to.
I have read everywhere that the solution seems to be clearing the data and cache from the application Gmail Storage but I do not have this application listed under Settings - Applications - All.
I have a HTC Hero CDMA currently running CM6.0 with the latest version of Gapps flashed (gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip). I restored my nandroid of my stock rom and was able to see Gmail Storage. Using Titanium Backup, I backed up just the Gmail Storage portion but was unable to install it due to it being a .tar. I did find out that Gmail Storage corresponds to the file GmailProvider.apk. The latest Gapps zips listed do not contain the GmailProvider.apk.
I have tried manually installing the GmailProvider.apk and also using Terminal Emulator to copy the file from my SD card into /system/app. I was able to get the apk visible in /system/app but after reboot, I was still unable to see Gmail Storage in my applications list.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I am missing? Do the new versions of Gapps no longer use the GmailProvider.apk for installing/running Gmail Storage?
Thank you for any help anyone can offer.

I am bumping this because I am having the same issue.
I receive Gmail messages fine. I can read them and everything.
However, when I archive them, they disappear from the inbox view but the counter still includes them. And if I log in to Gmail.com on the web, I can see the "archived" messages still sitting in my inbox marked Unread.
Also, sending messages from the application doesn't work. They just sit in my outbox.
The application is behaving as if it can only read my Gmail account, and cannot create or modify. It's really weird and any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am rooted running CM 6.1.1 and flashed gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip from goo-inside.me

[Q] Synchronize Check Boxes Missing - Google Accounts

Guys, at some point, not sure when, my check boxes to select sync options on Google accounts is missing. If I go to Menu>>Settings>>Accounts and select my Google account, the options for checking/unchecking Calendar, Contacts, etc. is missing. Any idea why they went missing? Phone is rooted using Z4Root and I do have gmail.apk renamed to gmail.bak. Not sure why this is happening. There could be a few other files renamed to remove bloatware.
Any ideas? I want to add another Google account and turn off sync for everything except Reader.
Android Version: 2.2
System Version: Version.2.4.330.A956.Verizon.en.US
Thanks.
Being that you renamed one of the main programs it would sync to, it prob thinks that it has nothing to sync. I would suggest reinstalling the Gmail app, as it is not in any way bloatware.

Do you know if the Gmail.apk package is used to sync contacts and calendar as well? Thanks for your advice. I will try it soon and report back.
negative, renamed Gmail.bak back to Gmail.apk with no success.
Any ideas?
Naming it back does not actually reinstall it. I found that out the hard way when I very first rooted my phone. You'll actually have to go thru the market and redownload and install.
As for it actually syncing, it there are other packages there that handle the syncing, how directly or indirectly I am not sure though. However, it is very likely that they still interact with each other, which means you just suddenly stripping it of something it expects to be there is quite likely to cause an array of possible problems.

[Q] Change list of contacts

I originally imported Gmail contacts last November but now I have a cleaned-up Gmail list. It would be easier to completely delete the gTab file and reimport, but I can't find how to so... nor can I find a likely suspect data file on the tablet. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Tom
Not sure but maybe you just have to remove your Gmail account and create it again. Probably it will sync the new contact list

Somehow it appears to me that the e-mail app is separate from the contacts app, and I haven't found anything clarifying what must be done to delete contact entries. There do not seem to be any controls to delete contact records one at a time or as a checklist ala File Expert. I was using the tablet mail app before I decided to experiment with the contacts list. I thought I might recognize a likely data but not yet.
On my phone it's under Settings -> Accounts & sync but I don't see any such option on my g tab. Maybe just not exposed in the older version of TNTLite I'm running. Worth a look...

Cannot install apps from Android Marketplace.

Only from my main email address, i can use an alternate address and install apps from device.
I can purchase songs from my main email address, i just cannot update existing apps or purchase new apps from main email.
I can visit the android marketplace website and install and purchase apps from my main email account.
Anyone ever seen anything remotely like this?
I have flashed several roms since last night and they all behave in this fashion.
went through the steps of opening applications and download manager and clearing cache, then market and clearing data but nothing.
Cheers

Fixed it by deleting the .android_secure folder on the SD card.

[Completed] Contacts Sync

Hello.
I use a Galaxy Y and as you know, it has a very small internal memory. We have CM7 and CM11 now and the thing with CM is we have to externally flash gapps. Considering the small memory, I hesitate to flash the gapps package and I've tried my level best to isolate myself from using Google services on my phone. But the one thing I cannot stop using is the contacts sync feature because when exporting the contacts to the SD card, the exporting seem to miss some contacts. So I have to use the cloud sync feature for my contacts but then for that one feature I'll have to flash the whole package and wait for everything to update bla bla ...
Is there any other service that I can use with which I can sync my contacts ( to gmail to? Not send it as an attachment) and not lose any contacts? Any help appreciated.
P.s also, I had come across a thread somewhere about a person moving away from Google services altogether but never managed to find it again.

I can't really think of a solution to your problem without using gapps, so my suggestion is to just use as few gapps as possible: [GAPPS][GUIDE][TOOL] PROJECT SLIM-8mb GApps & AUTO SLIM-FACTORY (free 134mb /system) have a look at this link and go the gapps folder to pick the right package for your OS (just give me a shout if you're confused) and it'll only use up less than 10MB but it contains contacts sync which you need. Hope this helps

Gmail App Not Downloading Attachments

Searched all over the web and can not find any help on this. Just picked up a Galaxy S7 last week and haven't had any issues with it. My internet at work blocks Gmail, Drive, etc. so I have to access everything on my phone. In some cases if I need a file from my Google Drive I have to use my phone (Gmail app) to send it to my work email, download, edit, email back to Gmail, save to Drive. It is a pain, but the only work around I currently know that still works here.
Anyway, I always password protect the files (word or excel files) so they can not be opened (well opened easily) and viewed. This has never been a problem until now. For some reason, when I email the password protected file back to my Gmail and open up the email on the Gmail app on the S7, it will NOT download or save the attached file. I have tried numerous files and oddly, if the file (docx, xlxs, pdf, zip) is NOT password protected, the Gmail app downloads or saves it to my Drive just fine. However, if the file is password protected, it will not do anything. I tap the screen and all the options and it does nothing.
I do not know if this is some security feature built into the phone, or some app, but it is not helping me. I have tried messing with the Gmail app settings and nothing helped. Cleared cache and data for Gmail app didn't help. Uninstall/reinstall didn't either. Any ideas?
Have you tried other email apps? Do files that you send download normally on PC?

Other email apps work and I can download the files fine on a pc. I looked more into it and apparently it's a Gmail android issue. Others are having similar problems so I guess I'll just have to wait until they roll a new update out.
Today i received my fresh oneplus 6 with android pie rom. Actually i have this issue with gmail. Can't download/view pdf attachments even if i have 2 pdf apps (google pdf viewer and adobe reader). Any idea?
