Still, this problem keeps hauting us.
A little explenation to start off with, but a lot of info can be found around the web.
In many VAG concern cars (Skoda, Audi, VW, Seat) there are carkits which can only work using the (nokia) bluetooth rSAP (remote Sim Access Profile) protocol. While a great system (it copies your sim over bluetooth, puts the phone in airplane mode and acts as it's own radio, so perfect signal and sound quality), it is often not implemented on phones anymore.
Your best bet used to be Symbian phones from Nokia or Samsung. But often, even then, the newer phones had botched implementations in my opinion.
Now, for the first time, it seems that rSAP has been sighted on Android with the i9000 (Galaxy S) from Samsung.
So... buy that one would say. And sure, I Agree, but I have also told myself I would never buy anything from samsung anymore because of their horrible support.
So I was looking at the Nexus S as a great little device, and sure, I know samsung makes it, but the google brand gives me confidence that it will support it, and fix any bugs or even provide updates when needed!
So I know my request is a bit hypocrit, but would it be possible to transplant this bluetooth profile to the nexus S (for instance)?
Why hypocrit? Well, because making a ROM for the Nexus S which has the rSAP in it, makes it a custom ROM functionality for which there is no real suppport or upgradability looking at the future.
Still, I would very much like anyone to take a look at this and see how hard it would actually be (to build this functionality into a ROM, either using the Samsung code or anything else that is out there).
If anyone can shed some light on this, that would be greatly appreciated by me and many other people whom are basically screwed with a very expensive, non-functioning carkit.
The Galaxy S has support, I wonder why nobody has ported it to the Nexus S custom ROMs (Galaxy S custom ROMs have rSAP support).
There is an app in the market (search for android rsap) to add support to the Nexus S (with root) which is working (for me).

Cool. I'm pretty sure I'll get one. It will surely be much better than the pretty much messed-up and incapable Diamond.
I use my PDA for business purposes and couldn't care less for it in my personal world. That said, the iPhone can't touch the Windows Device in the business world.
- First there are issues with iTunes. I can't stand it and every time i tried installing it on my computer something stopped working. So unless they make it work with WMDC it won't work for me. I haven't seen (other than a virus) a software that is more invasive than iTunes!
- No WiFi Sync. I sync via Bluetooth all day long when I'm at the office.
- No or very limited customization/personalization!
- Usability! Don't take me wrong it is very user friendly in general especially if you never used a "Smart" phone/device, but try to dial a number while driving! On standard phones, you can blindly feel your way around the dial screen, not so on the iPhone. Well, if you have a PDA without numbers, you can always use voice dial and it works great for me. Not so on the iPhone. Or just try to imagine you have FAT FINGERS, then the screen doesn't work at all (not that you could dial a number on my Dash with fat fingers ) Have you ever tried to operate the iPhone in cold conditions. Well it doesn't! Something with the screen just doesn't want to work when it is very cold.
- My friend is telling me that he can't delete certain stuff of the phone. Can only be done on iTunes and then it needs to be synced. To me that sounds like a one way street. I need to sync the latest changes I have done on either device or laptop.
- No MMS
- No 3G YET, but my TMo Dash doesn't either.
- Not enough Software yet (which probably will change in a year or two). I have around $200 worth of software on my PDA and NONE is available for iPhone. This saves me carrying my laptop all over the place.
- Not available on all networks. It is a locked device and I dare you to unlock it
- You can't do that attitude.
- Why do they keep on pushing the iTunes this and iTunes that on you.
It is difficult to focus on all the good when you are used to your WM device having all the options available and then once you jump on the iPhone wagon these options are just not available.
My buddy, who took the iPhone plunge, ended up getting his old Siemens SX66 back (updated to WM6) and gave his $500 iPhone to his wife, who absolutelly loves it, she uses it mainly as a MP3 player (and sometimes as a phone).
I do love the High Res Screen, ease of use and overal looks of the iPhone. If the features and software become available it would definetly be a WM killer, but as of yet, the only people i see using an iPhone are the ones who don't really need a WM device. If I wouldn't depend on the stuff that is on my Smartphone, i'd probably have an iPhone too.
In my opinion it is a very good looking but a "Not Enough" or Simple device. Here, check it out:

they are making it support activesync soon last i heard
bluetooth is not wifi activesync used to be able to sync using wifi as well as bluetooth but that was removed (so that harms wm devices too)
iphone can do mms using third party software
all iphones used outside of usa are unlocked and can use Edge or gprs networks of those countries not really with apples consent though

lol @ this post. you must have just used a 5 min demo from the store. the iphone can do a lot of the stuff you're complaining about.
I thought they already added activesync to iPhone? If not.. I know for sure it's coming soon.. that was AMAZING to me they were doing that...
iTunes is the thing that will probably prevent me from ever getting an iPhone though... I HATE iTunes. HATE HATE HATE. Everything apple FORCES u to use iTunes and I think it's stupid.
will be interesting to see the features of this v2 phone... I would assume that is the one they would throw on 3G.
i use itunes even though i dont have an ipod or iphone
i like it

Have you used a Diamond yet? Or are you just guessing...
I think the Raphael will definately be better than the iPhone for most uses, and I also think the Diamond will be better with the ability to have a far greater number of programs...
Of course you can unlock the iPhone but you loose warranty i heard. But in europe the iPhone is provider locked as well. For example, in Austria the iPhone is sold unter T-mobile (germany as well, Deutsche Telekom), so if you want to unlock it to be able to use A1 or O2 or whatever else you have to void your warranty to be able to do that.
You just gotta jailbreak it if you want more. And that's marginally.
http://www.appletell.com/apple/comment/unlocked-iphones-to-be-sold-in-europe-the-moon/
there been rumors for awhile about them also being sold unlocked in europe
in which case apple will have to give warrenty

I think he was being sarcastic
as far as unlocked iphones people are now buying these "hi-phones" which they're making claims are better than iphone to begin with... haven't seen a 3g version of it though

It depends. 4GB storage is plain insufficient in a multimedia device. This device has been killed on the drawing board.
And if the GUI will be as slow as on the videos, it'll be really hard to use.
Of course, I don't disagree the Diamon has a lot more apps. It's just that I also have an iPAQ 210 in my poxket so I have something high-end to run my WinMo apps on- my phone doesn't necessarily need be a WinMo phone. This is why I have a Nokia N95 as my generic multimedia phone right now.
Yeah, the unlock iPhone rumor, is just that a rumor. Trust me, my friend came to visit me here in US with his Austrian iPhone and he ended up with one of my old Nokia phones while he was here as the iPhone was locked. He asked for unlock but Tmo will not budge on this one. Any other phone they will send you the SIM unlock codes wihtin 24 hours. Besides TMo Europe and TMo US are 2 complete separate units and for some reason they are not communicating that well with each other. That's unfortunate, they could have an awesome worldwide network.
I'm looking to make the switch from WM to Android, but am thoroughly confused when it comes to android phones already on the market PLUS phones for which there have been successful android ports.
Basically, I would like to know your thoughts on which GSM phone is the best when it comes to running android, in terms of hardware (camera, speed, screen , etc) and overall functionality. I can flash custom ROMS and such, no problem.
I'm also confused on the differences between Android 1.5, 1.6, and 2.0. I see new phones (such as the upcoming X10) will have v1.6, so it can't be all that outdated.
Anyway, I can probably research those differences when I have time. Mainly, I would like any opinions on the "best" overall android phone for the money. Again, it will be on a GSM network (AT&T). THANKS!
I fell in love with my Eris on the first day. It has the beautiful Sense UI, a 5mp camera, speaker phone, clear screen, easy navigation button layout, 3.5mm jack, Exchange support, outlook sync, and decent battery life (if you don't have wifi running all the time). As you can see in my signature I have owned a couple of Android phones but am not a total expert. It all depends on the features you need and/or want. Also there is no root for the Eris yet but we will be getting Android 2.x very soon and hopefully root. It sounds like Eris and Droid will get 2.x first at this point in time but things change quickly.

Thanks. I should also note that I must have a GSM phone, as I'm tied to AT&T in the states. But I guess the ERIS is just the CDMA version of the GSM Hero, right?? Thanks again for your thoughts. Keep 'em coming.

The Vogue... hands down.
In fact, they released a flashable version of Android (not just running from SD), but flashing it to NAND wiping the device and exorcising it from M$ WM...
The ports are nearly perfect as well. Fast and very smooth (and stable).
Then I would go for the Hero unless you do what was suggested above to your Vogue. Also the Hero is rooted and there is a sub-forum you can checkout for more info.

Thanks, but I forgot to mention it must be a GSM device (have now edited my first post). I think the HTC Elf has not seen as much success with an android port, unless I'm mistaken.
is there some sort of free root app I can use to pair my bluetooth keyboard with my hero
A better question might be, "Is there any bluetooth keyboard driver known to work with a Hero under any ROM at all -- stock 1.5, pre-release, leaked, hacked, or otherwise?" For whatever reason, the CDMA Hero seems to be the one single Android phone that doesn't seem to work with any known bluetooth keyboard driver in any supported mode (SPP or HID).
Literally half the posts at the Android support forum for mymobilegear.com are from Hero owners (at least, the half of the posts from people who've never, ever gotten it to work). It looks like part of the problem is that HTC's SPP support is flaky in all the ROMs and kernels obtained up to this point. It might even be part of the reason why the Hero's official ROM release keeps getting pushed back, considering that proper Bluetooth support is one of the major new features of 2.1. I know, because I spent the weekend trying to track down a working driver known to work with any folding keyboard and a Hero myself.
I have tried a few different boards.
I must say the Hero BT Stack is less than extraordinary. Much less than. Almost so crapy I am lucky to pair a headset with it.
What's strange is that all the problems literally seem to be specific to the CDMA Hero. I haven't seen similar posts from Droid Eris owners. Then again, it might just be that any Verizon customer with the slightest dislike for soft keyboards would have just bought a Droid, while the alternative in Sprintland wasn't quite as appealing.
Hi evrybody I'm a new user in this forum and I'm in a conflict that hope you guys could resolve with your knowlegde. I'm actually writing this thread with my Palm treo 750, I hope that this is the right spot for this thread cause I've been reading a lot of post in many forums and websites but I've got my self just more confused of what to do. Ok I've just brought this smartphone for my distantance and pocket connectivity esigence, I was new in the smartphone world and I found my self mistaken about evrythings. I wish to traw this phone in the bin rightnow. It's making me crazy! Costantly freezing and doesn't do what i need it to do. I need a smartphone that could give me video call via 3g or 4g with VoIP and single VoIP call, flash support (for flash website) and java support (always for the same reason), make fb and msn chat streaming video and music, writing and making photos/videos. I hate when my phone freeze without any apparently reason or lag cause I'm listening music and using internet in the same moment, plus my battery life is about 3 hours. I've been looking in internet and at the end I've arrived to the point that I have to decide betwen Htc evo and Iphone 4. I've tried Iphone 3 and I didn't like it at all, I hate the soft keyboard and the OS doesn't support flash. I've never tried htc evo but I know that andoid is awesome and support flash (I don't kow about java) both have soft keyboard but both have even hard keyboars with witch i can upgrade my phone with (so keyborad will not gonna be a problem) both OS have a lot of free and pay apps they are very versatile. I'm not so confortable with the fingertouch os but I can buy stylus for both mobile. The screen and the camera in the evo are better then the Iphone, and android it's really easy to use (for what I've seen on m.youtube cause I can't see normal youtube) instead of the iphone OS (witch I've found a bit tricky). The iphone have no expandible memory card, (evo does) and (if I'm not wrong) you can tweak android a lot more (and with less problem) than the iphone. So... I've got a calderon of confiuson in my head right now and I need some clarification because maybe what I'm saying is not correct and for sure most of you guys know more than me about. Plus this is just correlated througth my esigence, cause at the end a smartphone it's strictly related of what you want to do with that. Cheers guy, I'm sorry for the large thread but I wanted to be the most possibly clear. I thanks already you guys for this wonderful forum (that I've been using a LOT) and for the one's of you that gonna gimme suggest about.

I own both phones. I'd personally recommend the iPhone 4 over the EVO 4G. The display on the iPhone 4 is actually better: higher resolution, better colors, better viewing angles - the EVO's display is only bigger. The camera (both front and back) on the iPhone 4 is also better: it's 5MP but has a better sensor which leads to better quality stills and 720p video. The EVO also has a severely gimped/old GPU and while the iPhone 4's GPU is not cutting edge it's still a lot better in day to day use. Overall both phones have similar hardware features but just about everything on the iPhone 4 performs better - I wont get into software since that's more opinion/preference based.
With that said, I wouldn't recommend either for you. You seem to like Android (and it is a good OS) so with that in mind I'd recommend either a Nexus S (the best Android phone out IMO + VOIP is integrated into 2.3 which is only currently/officially available on the NS and may never land on the EVO), G2 (if you like hardware keyboards), or a MT4G (if you just want really beefy specs).
Cheers! Appriciate the anwser! I actually don't know about the OS maybe i could just get my self used to it. cause I've read that it have skype with video call (and that's one of the most important things). I'll like to try that nexsus that u was talkin bout. thank you! the nexsus seems the phone that i was looking at, but no programs till now support the front facing camera for video call..
Hi everyone,
I'm well aware that there are millions of similar topics here, but at least I know exactly what I want, I'm just not sure which smartphones have that. I would appreciate very much if you could help me.
I currently have Samsung i900 Omnia with Windows Mobile 6.1 and I must say that I'm very satisfied with the device. It's in my hands 24/7 and since it's around two years old now and I really use it to its maximum, you can imagine that it's pretty worn-out and I'm looking for a replacement.
This is what I would like to have on my new smartphone:
- It has to be touchscreen (high-quality and optionally multi-touch), keyboard is not necessary, would be great if it had finger mouse.
- OS: I like WinMo, but I would now like to switch to Android 2 (is that the latest one?) if there are not much issues with this OS, otherwise please tell me.
- It has to be fast for surfing the Internet (fast WLAN and at least 3G, 4G not important at all) and support Flash and Java. Surfing the Internet is what I do most and I really want it to be very fast and the more desktop-like the better.
- I also want the device itself to be very fast so that it doesn't freeze if I'm really not pushing it. Dual-core processor would be great, but I guess I could be satisfied with something else as well.
Other things are less important. 5MP camera is fine, anything better is just a plus. Would like a nice screen with good resolution and colors, but no need for 3D and stuff. Bluetooth and other common things are always present anyway.
Just give me the names
Thanks a lot!
I would recommend:
-Samsung Galaxy S II
-Motorola Atrix
-HTC Desire HD
-LG Optimus 2x
-Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo/Arc (take your pick)
-Google Nexus Prime (when it's released)
These are all Android phones .
Forever living in my Galaxy Ace using XDA App
Cheap alternative LG Marquee very fast yet affordable
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Thanks guys, I think I'll go for SGS2.
A good choice, you won't regret it
HTC inspire 4g ($50 at Wal-Mart) on att 2yr plan. Rooted and flash rom Revo which i got here

Umm, yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll go for SGS2.
But what I like to do before buying any games, laptops, tablets, phones, etc. is to visit Google and search "[device name] problems". Aside from some random issues here and there, it seems that there's a whole galaxy (pun intended) of people experiencing all sorts of wi-fi problems, especially with signal strength.
Wi-fi is very important to me. Since I was planing to buy my new smartphone in no less then a month anyway, I'll wait and see if Samsung releases a fix to these issues. If it doesn't, I'll probably buy something else.
I recommend you of course an Android phone. From my point of view they are on the top of the mountain now.
And models ...
Top:
Samsung Galaxy S 2
HTC Desire S
If you want a cheaper one:
Samsung Galaxy S SCL
HTC Wildfire S
