Can anyone with a Nexus S have a look at these photos and compare against their own? I want to be sure my screen is faulty before taking it back. Thanks.

Nice sharp clear text on the i9000:
The same text on the Nexus S:
Looking from an angle, the screen turns even more green/yellow:
Then with brightness turned up full on both:
Now looking from an angle the screen has a very blue tint on the NS, where the i9000 doesn't discolour at all:
The screen starts to look much better after about 50% brightness. Auto-brightness makes it look awful which makes me think the colour profile for the panel is wrong as if the brightness is set to full it's overly bright and has a blue tint.
Does anyone else see this behaviour?
I do have a vibrant so I can compare in the same way... but again there's also differences among Vibrant panels. Anyway, my Vibrant is a bit more blue tinted than my Nexus S, and overall the Nexus S display seems nicer. However, as for viewing angle, the Vibrant doesn't distort at all, while the Nexus S changes color slightly, which I think is due to the gorilla glass in the Vibrant and lack of it in the Nexus S.
Your first pictures... I don't know if it's because of your camera's white balance, but the Nexus S is way too green. If anything, the Nexus S should be warmer (redder/yellower) than the Vibrant, which is what I see and was also reported by many reviewers. Also it should have exactly the same sharpness, so I think your display is kind of messed up... exchange if you can.
It's faulty. I have 3 Vibrant's in my hands right now due to my internal speaker stop working and getting warranty replacements. The warrant replacements both have blue tinted screen, so I asked for yet another. The original Vibrant I had has no blue tint and is gorgeous, but the Nexus S is even more vibrant and gorgeous.
You got a SAMOLED dud exchange it!
Yeah, your nexus S needs to be exchanged.
My S Screen looks even better than your i9000 phone. The colors on the i9000 look a little washed out, or not as vibrant. Of course that could just be the camera your using

For the amount of phones they put out in what seemed like a rush, I think they did a decent job.

to be honest i am kinda tired of going on repeat about this. but there are many bad screens. check my post history. you will find your aswers.
what i can say is there is warm yellow white " defective screen " and cool blue white " good screen "
one of your phones is defective.
Ok I'd say your screen is defective. Funny I placed my nexus one next to the S at the store, and the store unit had exact same issue as yours. My nexus one whites blew it away, it wasn't even close it was that bad. It's screen had some weird tint color like yours. Must have been a bad unit as well.

No worries dude. Thanks for the help. Hopefully more people will know what to look for now.
Sorry for bumping.
My Nexus S has same bluish display when screen brightness is low, exactly same with the pictures in the first post.
When I dim the screen in Clock Application, I can see the purple buttons instead of gray.
When I compare with HD2's LCD screen, HD2 looks even better :S
Should I exchange it? My friend bought it from Bestbuy for me, and I'm not living in US. So it's really hard for me to exchange it :/
Does it really worth to exchange it?

Just read the following thread in the diamond forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411487
It seems that some of the Diamond have Yellowish display and some with the Blueish display.
Very confusing.
Regards
Seems that I am the only one with this problem since there are 41 views and only one reply
Thank you
My new TP is surprisingly being the same condition as you. It attracted me cos its VGA screen. However, compare with my old 818pro, it does not get bit advantage on screen, but come out yellowish.
Do you seem to feel excessive overheating with your phone?
Do you leave it on the charger for a long time?
Do you use non-OEM batteries?

What is all the above got to do with a Yellowish display tint?
no yellow tint here... I mean this sounds strange...
It's probably the same situation as with the Diamond- 2 different suppliers for the screens. If more people chime in then maybe we can see if there are more people who've stayed silent but also have yellowish screens. Mine is white and bright, but I've had my TP for a month and it's probably from a different batch.
Mine is slightly more yellow compared to my Tytn, but nothing annoying.
Hmm mine isn't yellowish, but i do have other screen problems, like teksts that seem to "Burn in" or are still visible on the volume control screen...
Do you also have that problem or only the yellowish ?
A picture is worth a million words, let us see what your talking about. A yellowish screen could be cause by a bad or broken screen cable like it would happen on some laptops after time but that on the phone doesn't sound normal at all especially a new one. If you post a picture maybe we can see your problem. I haven't got mine yet so I have no idea what users are talking about when they say mine is sometimes yellowish or blue.

Thank you all for your replies, I took the phone to HTC and compared it with other phones there and they were all the same.
Seems that they use different types of display or from another manufacturer.
So I just returned it to them and got my mony back as I discovered this before I use the phone.
I did notice that the device they had there as a demo evice was different than mine and the display was like the Kaiser display but they refused to give me another device as the phone is working properly.
Best regards
Um, better get it exchanged then pal...

I know that I'm not the only one reporting this, but I'm the first one to provide pictures and video that prove that the problem is not so small as some might think.
It seems HTC started to use lower quality LCD screens with some (maybe all) of the newer Diamond units. These screens have a yellowish tint, and seem to have lower contrast.
Here is the proof (it's a comparison with my old Kaiser):
(both devices are at maximum backlight, and the Diamond's "auto backlight" option is off)
Pictures:
http://img45.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=10590_Picture_003_122_764lo.jpg
http://img24.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=10597_Picture_005_122_672lo.jpg
The difference seen in the picture is a bit exaggarated in comparison to what I see in real life (even though I did not touch the picture with any editing software, this is right from the camera), so I've included a video too, which more accurately portray the differences:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cVGORLm-Qc
(in real life the difference is just a bit more pronounced than in this video)
It is important to notice that without a direct comparison to a unit like the Kaiser (or the first batch of Diamonds), it might be hard to know that your Diamond has this phenomena, because even with this phenomena the screen look decent.
My fear is that both types of LCD screens are going to sell with new Diamond units from now on, making those who bought the yellowish screen unable to ever sell the unit for a decent amount of money (when they feel like upgrading).
We need a formal answer from HTC regarding this issue.

Me too, I was sending my TP to repair after using it for 2 months, due some really dissapointed problem like the LCD screen bottom corner peeling off and sliding keyboard starting to become not align with the body.
So they said they're going to replace the LCD 1st and return to me while waiting for the new stock of sliding keyboard. So I just got back my TP from SIS (HTC Malaysian Distributor) today, and found that the screen became VERY yellowish and terrible in different angle-viewing, besides, the new LCD screen viewing angle is terrible, some more fading off and cloudy, like covered with a greyish+yellowish cloud like that!
I did complain to the girl @ SIS, but she said she can't do anything! "this is the NEW BATCH of original screen from HTC!"
But after 'google' thru the net, I've found a lot of other country Touch Pro/Diamond has this issue. And get replaced a new one for them by HTC. Then why Malaysian can't?! This is unfair!!!!!
DON'T BE SILENT! LET'S SHOUT THIS OUT LOUD TILL THEY REPLACE IT FOR US!!! Check this out, more others has this dissapointing & terrible quality problem for this expensive device!!!

I have my Vibrant and my GS4G side by side and the screens look totally different. The whites on my Vibrant are very white while on my GS4G they have a very noticeable yellow tint. I noticed this on the demo GS4G at the store too. Anyone know why this is? Are the two phones using different OLED screens? My Vibrant definitely has a much better looking screen.
Yeah I noticed that too, the older vibrants screen looks a little better.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I noticed that while on the web. What I did was change the brightness settings for the web. The auto has to be changed I think though.
Yeah, I tried manually setting the brightness to different levels to see if that helped, but at all brightness levels the yellow tint is definitely there. The GS4G must be using a lower grade screen. Kind of a bummer, I have been spoiled by the Vibrant's screen.
They should be the same thing. I took them apart and didn't notice anything different with the screens, connectors, pins, or ribbons. It may possibly be a defect somehow, as a member on another thread mentioned that his screen has a green tint. Could be either defect or not calibrated somehow. If you find some setting or something that seems to fix it, please update us. Remember you can always exchange the phone before your "buyers remorse" period of 14 days is up. Thanks
I have actually compared my Vibrant to my GS4G, the T-Mo store demo and a friends. They all had the same yellow tint. Maybe my Vibrant has a defective screen! If so it is a great defect! My gut is telling me the GS4G is just using a lower grade OLED. I know there has been a shortage of high quality OLED screens so maybe they cut some corners.
I myself have both vibrants. After taking off the auto brightness that worked for me. I'm happy with it. Might be your phone. I'd take it back if it bothers you that much. Just me. They might even adjust for you. Won't hurt.
This is not the greatest LCD comparison picture but it is the only one I took and they look the same to me, both on the same settings, lowest brightness setting.

Vibrant build date: 07/16/2010
SGS4G build date: 02/13/2011
I wonder if it is because I have a custom ROM and Kernel on my Vibrant? Well, maybe I will get lucky and when the custom ROMs for the GS4G start rolling out it will affect the screen and make it a little whiter! It is not that big of a deal, I am just more curious than anything else. I also watch hockey games on my phone and on my Vibrant the ice is white and on the GS4Gs I have tested it is has a distinct yellow tint to it.

IDK Im running bionix v on my vibrant. again both look the same to me.
I have 2 vibrants and one of them purchased in july 2010, has a very white screen, while other one purchased in november had brownish yellow tint. I exchanged it and the one I got was still pale yellow tint.
It seems the problem is with original vibrants which we are used to which show "white" screen which is actually due to excessive blue in it. You can see it on lowest brightness.
In the end, it's all luck, its best to get a phone with true whites than bluish white which looks "whitest" but its not, or brownish tint which looks dull or yellowish tint which looks "dirty white"
The problem with yellow/brown tinted phones is the blacks don't look black, they look light brown.

yes... i just received my sgs4g in today from t-mobile. and there is def a huge difference. someone mentioned that the 'whiter' look was due to excessive blue. i cranked the brightness level all the way up on both phones and it seems you really can actually see a slight bluish tint on my old vibrant. although, it does make the whites seem whiter. i just never noticed it until my sgs4g came in. so i'm really not sure if my old vibrant is supposed to look like my sgs4g or vice versa. lol
All I know is that to me the whiter "bluer" tint looks a lot better to my eye. I had this same issue with the MyTouch4G in comparison to my Vibrant and could not get over it. But, I swore tonight that tomorrow I would make the GS4G my primary phone, so I figure as long as I don't do side by side comparisons I will get over it!

i'm with ya. i think i'd rather have the excess blue. so i'm about to go to my local tmo store and do a comparison to their display unit. maybe have them take one from the back as well. just to see if all three look the same, ya know? if one of them is like my old vibrant.... i'll prolly exchange mine.
Ok guys,on the market samsung has an app called Galaxy Tuner which allows you to play with the colour temperature. Supposedly some cellphones are just shipped with different settings. Let me know If anyone can get the right settings. Also the phone must be rooted for this program to work.
Here is some info. on Galaxy Tuner. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909801
Excellent, testing it now. Only downside is you have to reapply the fix after each reboot. But if it works that means that a custom kernel in the future should be able to permanently adjust the color temperature! Thanks.
My preference so far is cb1 at 20 and cr1 at -11. Atleast your able to save your favorite setting then just load after boot. Wonder if it affects the battery drain though.
I happen to have these 3 amazing devices in my possession, and so I feel obligated to snap some comparison photos. Most interestingly is the last few demonstrating the bleeding LCD issue. This is the best I could do without a tripod. Order left to right: EVO, G2x, Nexus S.

Youtube G2x and Nexus S:
Market (for greens):
And now the moment, all phones showing black image:
Angle view showing bad LCD bleed:
So here's my conclusion. G2x has most natural colors, the OLED on the Nexus just seems artificially vivid, but really there's not much difference until you hit the blacks. G2x has same LCD bleed as EVO, but 1000x better colors. So there you go, if you're used to OLED I can see why you're disappointed, but if you've been on an EVO LCD, the G2x is quite a treat. You can go wrong with any of these phones.

Personally I think the G2X looks better in all cases. Sure there is some bleed on the complete black, but to be honest, I am probably not the only one that uses their phone in normal lighting, every issue I have seen posted regarding bleed problems are in a pitch black room. Hardly a situation that I would even come close to on a daily basis.
I think the G2X is great as is across the board. And I am coming from a Fascinate (Galaxy S phone).
Well done Ravin! Thanks for that comparison.
wierd
in the pics the 2 screens look on while the third is black. i dotn see it like that maybe its just the way the camera pics up the bleed. But i think this is back to the old plama lcd arguments. my blacks on lcd and phone are black enough for me maybe i have my mind convinced they are black

Well you're right, OLED is off when it's displaying black, that's why it has a massive contrast ratio. The camera isn't lying in those pics.
I have used both the NS and the G2X and I prefer the G2X over the NS. I sold my used NS the day I bought the new G2X and I am not looking back.
I haven't had any of the balcklight bleeding issues everyone is talking about and the speed of the phone is superior to that of the NS. The phone feels more solid in my hand then the NS did, the build quality to me is allot better then the plastic NS.
I haven't rooted mine yet, I will wait until a stable release of CM7 comes out and then I will take the plunge. I think once a nice stable ROM is released and the recovery flashing issue are resolved, allot of folks will make the switch.
Do you know what I take away from this? Seeing that 3 different high profile Android devices, all have the same 4 buttons, but they're all in a different order. Why can't someone say 'lets standardize on a single order for these buttons'?

The sad thing is the NS doesn't even have the same layout as the Vibrant...same company!
I have seen countless praise of the SLCD screen of the One X, but I just got mine and noticed that although screen looks nice, its a bit warm in colors making it look yellowish. Same thing with the display models I looked at in the store. Are all One X screens like this? Not really complaining, just curious
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
There is a warmer and cooler version of the LCD. All I can say is that my One X has the most accurate colors of any mobile device I have ever owned.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
There seem to be at least three panel suppliers.
Warm tones often abate after a few hours of run time.
A recent firmware update reduced warmness greatly in the One X forum (international).
Some people seem to like the warmer ones and some people seem to like the cooler. I saw both side by side in the store today and prefer the cooler one because it makes text sharper. The warmer one is suggested to give better contrast, blacks and more accurate colors. The cooler one (Acer) seems to show gridlines according to the other forum.
My understanding is there are two different companies who are making the screens sharp and I believe the other is acer one is warmer and the other is cooler. I've looked at two stores and they both looked like mine kinda yellow (warm) especially near the bottom of the screen. Some people I have showed it to said they didn't see anything while others could see it. It really shows the most when in the settings menu. The colors over all are spectacular. So I figured I would get used to it and since both my local stores looked the same as mine I figured it would be difficult to get them to exchange in hopes of getting one with the cooler screen.

Anandtech had a Sony panel which might be exclusive to the XL.
The color accuracy is certainly better than my Note. It may not have the deep black levels, but that's all it lacks. And the blacks are still great.
I also haven't ran into any color banding or crushed blacks
I have seen both the tones
This is my third replacement. First one had flicker issue but the display was cooler (serial number began with HT23). Second one was warm display Serial number began with HT24. I exclusively requested the O2 shop guy to find HT24 (did a bit of reading before I went to shop) but that had charging issue...loll
The third one which I am using now is again HT23 from same stock but not a cooler display in fact warmer. I think there is no proper way to find out what display is what unless you open a brand new unit.
But certainly like all you have said, the tone is warmer on some devices (i prefer the cooler). If the brightness is turned to full it does take the warmness away but that is certainly not an option since it will drain the battery big style.

I don't think anyone in the U.S. or Canada's reported anything other than the Sony panel. I saw one in an AT&T story and I described it as dingy, maybe that's what people are referring to as warm. It could just be variations between different Sony panels. No one can produce millions of 312PPI small screens and have them all be identical.
Also on my third one...first one had a screen that went from warm to cool...it was really whacked out and especially noticeable when comparing to store unit. second had light bleed and a scratched/dead pixel under the glass (was hard to see but combined with light bleed at the bottom really ticked me off)...3rd one is great. screen is a bit warm but looks fantastic..and no other issues. I am surprised to hear to many issues with the screens on these phones.
Nice! Looks like the glue or something had to dry up, because im noticing the warmness wearing off and screen is starting to look better and better in my eyes. No banding nor light leaks. Looks like im one of the lucky ones
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Mine is definitely warm, but its because I'm comparing it to my Sensation which is definitely on the cooler side. Here's a few side-by-side comparisons (taken with iPad3):

i recently got the samsung galaxy note 10.1 and after seeing how BAD the screen actually is i realized i cannot stand a bad black level i plan on selling this and buying a asus padfone 2
now my question is how good is the black level on a padfone 2 is it perfect black or is it as terribly bad as the note 10.1? as i am not sure if i want to go through that again
i have read that lcd technology can't show good black only SUPER AMO LED + does but amoled is also extremely over saturated i remember when i saw a galaxy note for the first time the colors were terrible
from my understanding it uses a technology called Super IPS + 2 or something
i figured the one x would use the same technology so i googled it and checked if it had good black according to reviews it has bad black
so back to my question is the padfone 2 able to show perfect black with no bleeding from either light or colors? (i have seen a iphone 4s and that has bad backlight bleeding)
as the black the note 10.1 shows is unacceptable it makes live wallpapers with a hint of black impossible ot enjoy the colors seem to melt in with the black and then theres that low resolution
side question what color is the padfone 2? i have seen it in so many different colors
one picture shows it very perfect black (perfect color in my opinion)
one picture shows it dark grey
another picture shows it glittery light grey (the grey that made me pass on the padfone 1)
The black its a nicely black and when I turn off the display its a real black.

so if a moving object is showing on a black screen there will be absolutely no color bleed and no light bleed?
is it as good as super amo led then?
thankyou

No.
No LCD display of any sort will be as good as SuperAMOLED when it comes to reproducing blacks; the technology is entirely different.
If you want perfect black, go SuperAMOLED. If you want perfect colour, go LCD.

well i don't know then i guess i should cancel my order and i guess i am so picky that i will never find a phone i actually like
yesterday i saw a youtube video and i thought it looked off with the bottom bezel being so much bigger then the top which then resulted in me not wanting the phone at all
so i told myself if it won't get deliverd on promised date being january 2nd i would cancel it
i guess phones are simply not for me
then again a remake of the sony ericsson p910i with android and with the same de attachable keyboard would probably be my ideal phone

i loved that phone and i still do but i guess i will never find a phone i want
what stopped me from buying the padfone 1
i thought the back looked like nail pollish so it completely put me off
i wonder if i will ever find a phone i would be happy with
so the black level is not good i would be able to see light in the black including bleeding of colors?
oh well i guess phones aren't for me
the black level on the note 10.1 was un acceptable and terrible if thats the kind of black level i would get on the padfone 2 then i would stay away

So basically you think that LCDs are unacceptable? If i was you i would just stop being weird, or just stay away from everything LCD based like IPS/TFT. Can you watch TV or you just find it terrible too?
