[Q] Apple OS on Window Mobile? - General Questions and Answers

Ok, I saw android on Window Mobile, so it makes me wonder that someone out there know the progress on apple OS run on Window Mobile.
As right now, Apple application dominate the smartphone and we all know soon that will change. But there are so many applications can only strictly get through Apple.

The Apple iphone-New files for our wizards

is it possible to dump the iphone OS for our wizards?
can you dump mac software on a pc and have it work? -- answer to your question and mine is no.
but we can create similar software -- search for "iContacts" and "TouchFlo" in this forum.
I love the htc touch
I dont want the whole OS on my wizard. I would like to try the Safari browser.
OMG .. you seriously asked ..
You're Damn Right I Ask!
Thats how we learn, we read and we ask questions that we dont have a answer to, yet. A lot of people are scared to ask questions on this forum, but not me buddy. Now stick to the question, can we extract some files from the iphone such as the Safari browser and put them on our wizards?
nope, sorry you cant, the system is totally different.

Wow man, that post helped me so much! I think that many other people will agree that that is totally on topic and is giving out a lot of information.
(Can the crap, why is there need for such useless posts?)
Flames...
Don't embarass those who are willing to ask a simple question that only requires a simple answer. If argue about it, argue about it simply, not obnoxiously. Giving our cackles and asking if this person is serious is pretty much lame in the case of forums.
Be polite... I like XDA Developers 'cause we're all polite here...

Well don't you realize that if we can't even fully port TouchFlo's finger gestures to devices such as the Hermes yet that it would be similarly not possible to port Safari, and/or the iPhone OS?
Why do you want Safari in Windows Mobile?
Its a good question actually - as far as I recall the iPhone is based on an Xscale core. Most WM devices are based on similar xscale cpu's so *if* the iphone was running Windows Mobile of some sort yes by all means rip away and run on your device. However since it runs OSX 'mobile' it would be like trying to get your fridge software to run on your tv - no go in any environment. On top of that I don't think you can even get to the system files to copy anything from the system?!
The one way to *possibly* do it is to join the Linux dev project for your phone and then try getting a Linux version of Safari running on your mobile..

You've got a point there. What I think he REALLY wants is the "turn the phone sideways and the phone goes into landscape" feature. LOVE the phone in your signature!

Android on a Motorola. Starting to maybe lean towards on a Samsung with Google not Bing.
im not sure about that because im loving apples iOS because of its large appstore
but android on my hd2 is doing great so far too and the market is going to be big
but my next phone will defenetly be an iphone
Android-of course!

Web OS on Desire

Hi all
Due to being confused i have posted the same thread in Desire Genereal, Desire Q&A, General, WebOS Hacking&General and WebOS Development.
Please delete the wrong ones.
I was just wandering would it be possible and if there is any brave soul to port Web OS to desire. I have read a bit and would like to try this OS myself. Not rich enough to owe 3 mobiles though :/.
Just let me know if I'm asking/wanting impossible or it is doable and someone may take it on board.
thnx in advance for all replies
Regards
Kirior
I'd LOVE to run webOS on my Desire too but webOS isn't open source so you can't, legally speaking, put it on your phone
what you can do though is test it via an emulator on your desktop
you just have do download the SDK at developer.palm.com
i have a palm pre for sprint i am not using, i've been playing around with it, but if you want it, msg me, we can work something out.
A large majority of the OS is in fact open source.

Indeed, but none of the user interface.
If you want a command-line Linux box, no problem. It will be the same as any other OpenEmbedded-based Linux development machine with no graphical user interface.
If you want what most people refer to as "webOS", that bit is proprietary.
I wouldn't say the open source part is a "large majority" either.

If this just can be like the Nokia N900 that can handle WebOS APP just installing some things.

WebOS or Android?

Which one i should donate fund to!!
Please don't tell me both!

WebOS is EOL if you read the news, unless they can licence it out. Lots of questions if that will become a success story.

WebOS is the one that needs help, but feel free to donate whoever you want.
Android would unlock the real potential of this device and will continue to evolve where webos is dead.
I like my Iconia tab for the most part (except for the fact the keyboard is running slow and not showing up very quickly as I am typing this). I want to see how well the webos really backs up your apps. The rom manager that supposedly comes with it is suppose to let you change roms without having to wipe the tab. The main thing I want to check out is webos doctor. It is suppose to be able to bring back an unresponsive tab and restore it to the last save point some how. I have tried to find more info on this, but it has been a challenge trying to use an internet search for something with the same name as the mouse on a laptop.

WebOS already has the potential, even more than Android, Android only owns all the APP that WebOS, I bet you never used a WebOS device.

DEV: WebOS on iPhone :)

I am starting a new project to port webOS over to the iPhone 3G 3GS and 4.
I have a website where i will be posting updates with project info. Also I am looking for someone with Linux experience as i have only a Windows 7 PC.
I need about 3 more people to help me with this.
Any takers?
Please PM if you think you can help thank you.

Any three people? Or do you have specific skill-sets that are required? What skill-sets do you bring to the project?

So you have a website, a blog, a webOS phone and an iPhone. That's a pretty unique skillset. I wonder why no-one with that set of things tried to port webOS to the iPhone before? Once you've got that skillset the rest must be pretty straight-forward, no?
BTW, you can get links to download the webOS firmware from HP's official servers here: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions
Note that redistributing it (or any modifications of it) is illegal, so you may want to figure out that small issue first in your project plan ...
Good luck with your endeavour.

Are you being sarcastic, Rod? I suppose he deserves it by the know-how he puts forward. So if I get it right, he just has a website and wants others to develop and get the reward. Pretty nice business plan!
He also has a dream...the same one I have but I have an EVO 3d... Which I think should be easier...
Rod I was thinking can't it be done part way like webpage 2.1 on pre- using meta scripts?

Thanks very much for your offer.
Unfortunately, none of our developers use a Pre- these days for anything other than webOS 1.4.5 legacy testing.
I'm personally using a 1.4GHz 16GB HP Pre 3.
-- Rod
I dont get the point of it. Iphones are expensive and run unique hardware only made by apple. With that expense comes the seamless apple experience ,decent reliability and the proprietary is operating system. If your going to throw all that away, why even pay for the iphone to begin with. Their hardware is really no better than the stuff from htc. Htc hardware on the other hand is well understood and in fact,is very similar to the hardware in the touchpad.
Personally,I dont see the point of webOS on anything now. It honestly has few game changing features. What it does have is a unique UI that many people like. Rather than port webOS to other platforms, why not make a UI for android that takes the best things from webOS and throws out the bad ones, and fixes what needs to be fixed. Then you have something
really great, with a great UI,the ability to run android aps,but without many of the drawbacks of android.
As for your project,I doubt you will get any takers. What I suggest is you simply learn to do the work yourself. Start by downloading a Linux distro and installed it on an old pc.
