WebOS is EOL if you read the news, unless they can licence it out. Lots of questions if that will become a success story.

WebOS is the one that needs help, but feel free to donate whoever you want.

Android would unlock the real potential of this device and will continue to evolve where webos is dead.

I like my Iconia tab for the most part (except for the fact the keyboard is running slow and not showing up very quickly as I am typing this). I want to see how well the webos really backs up your apps. The rom manager that supposedly comes with it is suppose to let you change roms without having to wipe the tab. The main thing I want to check out is webos doctor. It is suppose to be able to bring back an unresponsive tab and restore it to the last save point some how. I have tried to find more info on this, but it has been a challenge trying to use an internet search for something with the same name as the mouse on a laptop.

WebOS already has the potential, even more than Android, Android only owns all the APP that WebOS, I bet you never used a WebOS device.

New Home Screen Alternatives

I checked the first 3 pages of the forums and didn't see this posted.
Here are some upcoming home replacements for Android. One name that should be familiar to us old WinMo users and a "newcomer."
http://www.tat.se/home/
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pre...gs-support-for-symbian-and-android-along.html
they both look pretty cool but I think tathome looks like it might be a little more to my liking.
SPB isnt out yet, is tathome available yet, i didnt see a download.
+1 for TAT home it looks like it could be NICE I checked out the video (good music and all ;-)) here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/15/tat-home-the-gesture-powered-3d-home-screen-your-android-device/
I used SPB Mobile Shell 3.x with my Touch Pro and I wasn't too impressed.
*** EDIT ***
Here is a video of Mobile Shell http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/mwc-video-spb-mobile-shell-50-on-android IMO Mobile Shell is suffering from what it always has LAG!!!!! Even on the N1 it looked slow, maybe because it's BETA.

I don't think it's out yet either. You can sign up for the preview here http://www.tat.se/home/ They said that "more information" will be sent later.

Looks cool! I signed up for the TAT preview.
Hrm, TatHome looks like what I envisioned Android 'should be' , I'm liking the look it quite a bit!! Next: to find out whether it really runs that smoothly on my Hero. 3d and graphics are great, but if it slows my phone down in the slightest its automatically going to get turned off.

cant imagine that it would slow it down anymore than sense but time will tell
muahaha, smooth as an iph*ne, and yet still kicking the pants off of it in terms of functionality = complete win for Android.
See, this is why Android is better, and why most everyone here bought an Android phone Since mostly everyone here probably signed up for that preview, the first person that gets the .apk for this, can you please post it up here incase they delay the preview to some people?

+1 on this but at the same time this is why some dont want to develop for android
Why would it make them not want to develop for it? Because some devices have different specs? I'm just curious.

Yes there are a lot of different spec'd Android phones out there but I think he is referencing the fact that Android apps are easier to "warez" than the apps on other OS's. All you have to do is sign up for the paid app extract the .apk post it somewhere. Also any dev can try to "reverse engineer" the app, change a few components and BAM it's on the Market as their "original" creation. Just my .2 cents

that is correct. when swype was first leaked I was actually talking to them about the bennifits of releasing it through the market instead of through manufacturers and one of the biggest concerns that was brought up was the fact that security for apps is too lax. now dont get me wrong everyone knows that for every security mesure there is always a way around it but android security just sucks thats why for the most part people afften have a free version and a donate version. if people can try it and like it then they are more likely to buy it rather than just pirate it. setcpu is a perfect example of this. sure the dev could have made it a protected app (but being a member here at xda he probably knew it was pointless) but he offers it free here and then if you like you can buy from the market to donate to help keep him developing.
so basically all im saying is...ok we all (me included) have pirated apps but if you like the app make sure to go buy it from the market and help keep these people developing for us.
I know I went off on a rant there but without intrest in app development this great platform will fail.
I might be the only here without pirated apps then haha. I did have CoPilot once, but I didn't like it much so I got rid of it. The only time I ever use something pirated is to try it. If I like it and feel the developer should get credit, then fine, I'll donate/buy it.

same here the only thing I am using pirated right now is swype but thats only becuase there is no way to buy it. but thats also because im a cheap ass and maily use free apps unless I really find something useful but to date the only things that I have bought are setcpu and beautiful widgets. im trying cachemate now but it really doesnt seem to be very helpful. I wish I knew a little more about programing there is an app for the iphone that I would love to have on my hero.
i played around with "pandahome" some yesterday. it seems beta right now but they are apparently coming out with pandahome2 soon. it's a good idea, just not quite finished yet. (fc's and whatnot)
anyway you might go check it out (if your feeling froggy).

[Resolved] Will any.android running phone ever run IOS???

Ok i know mmaaannny people.are thinking abour this everyday and i wantvto hear from you guys.
Do you think any abdroid.phone will run ios?, or will it forever be a lost cause?
I mean seriously i love iso so much i bought an iphone 4 just so i could use it. I now jave 2 phones when i know if lots of our very very very smart devs could work together and finish this in no time.
And if anyone successfully ports this, i will sell my iphone and donate $500 instantly.
Thanks for reading and post wat you think about this.

I would love IOS on my android!
i think its a good idea that the devs should work togheter and bring IOS to our android phones
I don't think so just because it's closed source and driver issues and other stuff. But I would probably donate $500 also haha i'd love it.
They're trying. Just Google "iEmu Project". I would post a link, but I'm a "new" user. Haha.
But I do love my iOs as well and would love my T Mobile Galaxy S2 to run iOs.
I think it's impossible to emulate iOS on a other Device which is not from Apple, because iOs isn't Open Source.
me was interested too...i watched a video of an android phone running ios, but i don't know if it was real...in fact there are rom(miui)which are very similar to ios. if you want ios because you like icons,graphic...so flash a miui rom which is very very similar to ios...but if you want ios for using ios apps,games...now you can't but i hope someone solves this thing because it will be amazing use ios apps on android!!

IOS is not open source and apple wont allow it by license
Even when someone ports it for any Android decice its illegal.
So Mod please close this thread please
Have to agree. As even if someone did port it which would have to be done by rewritting the os drivers from the ground up. Apple would issue a C&D order followed by a lawsuite.

PadKite™ : The first multitouch mobile mouse.

Hi xda-developers,
We are about to launch PadKite in the Android market and we are currently collecting feedback from real users. Beta version now available for download at padkite web-page. As a new user we are not allowed to post links, please let us know your feedback on the application. You can also subscribe to our Beta Program. We are eager to hear your opinion.
PadKite is also an excellent app for tablets so we are also looking for people to test it on their tablets. Whether your multitouch device is a phone or tablet. Your feedback is very important to us. For any questions, please reply to this post or contact us at PadKite Contact us.
More about PadKite™: PadKite™ is the first multi-touch mobile mouse created to manage the tiny content on our cellphone screens. Never fumble or miss a target again. Breeze through favorite websites in a flash with customizable multitouch gestures. Post media and text to Facebook, Twitter, and blogs, all at the swoop of a fingertip.
Wow! This looks like an awesome tool!
There's only Éclair and Froyo versions available though, I'm running custom Gingerbread on my N1.
I tried running the Froyo version on my N1 anyway, but it Force Closes as soon as trying to open the app.
Any ETA on a Gingerbread version? I'm quite eager to try your product!
They said a GB compatible copy will be along soon.
I really wanted to try it but it force closes on me.
Always wanted to tryout multi-touch...
nice stealth edit trololol...
Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

They included the complete libwebcore.so in there effectively including a complete web browser in their so called mouse driver. What up with that?
Just sitting and clapping my hands :]
looks wonderfulll .. Did anyone try it already ? does it seem safe and real?
btw: So I've understood that it is a browser like dolphin and others. .. does it include Flash? (btw does it have hebrew as other browsers?)
Hi xda-developers,
Hope you are enjoying flying the web with PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse.
Yes, it is a web browser. It includes extended Webkit libraries that makes it heavier. Hopefully these will be able to be submitted into the WebKit build on the near future. The application does not include Flash for the moment and does not run on top of the OS or other applications. As a new concept we are starting small running as a stand alone browser aiming to grow bigger. We are braking the mold on multi-touch interaction and that has to be gradually. As you might have notized it has a lot of potential.
Currently we are making adjustments in order to run in all versions. This requires a lot of effort however it will allow PadKite to run in almost all devices. If you want to run on a Gingerbread version, let us know via our contact form and it will be delivered shortly.
Some users have experienced problems with Android versions of FRG83D and FRG83. We are currently looking into this and we will come up with a solution shortly. If you have problems, running PadKite on your Froyo, please contact us via our contact form too or join our beta program. We need as much information as possible from our users (especially your Logcat). Also, take part in our beta program and you will be the first to get updated on new versions.
Please follow PadKite on Twitter and get up-to-date info on new builds at padkite account.
Thanks for helping us make PadKite even better!
Cheers,
Jose Vigil
RoamTouch CEO
looks great, I'm looking forward to trying it when its available for Gingerbread.. also it would be great to get the adobe flash integration working.. But looks like a great concept, original and useful.
Bumping this, as it is a clear winner as a productivity tool, but so few people seem to have heard about it. I'm a huge fan, and that's based on only having seen the videos, as well as it partially working on a mate's Xperia X8 (the X8 lacks multi-touch, so is unable to take advantage of some of the more powerful features, such as text-selection via second finger-rotation, although as a pointer it works perfectly)!
Hoping they get back to me soon with an offer into the Beta program, as I'm dying to get this app! Also hoping they take it further, and fast, so that it becomes an integral Android feature, rather than just a browser tool.
This is a game-changer, people, so get on board and bring your family and friends!

Don't hold your breath on this one buddy. I gave up. I recieved 6 APK's from the dev...not one of the worked. FC every time. I was working on it with him for quite a time, and it never worked. Seems to only work on one or two phones.
Won't be holding my breath, but certainly won't be abandoning hope! If those who have been able to get it working could post details of which model phones they have, as well as the models that haven't worked, plus current Android version, the devs might be able to narrow the issue down. Not sure if I'm able to start a new thread, being a noob and all, so if people could list the following in this thread it would go a long way towards getting us what we want:
Phone model
Android version (stock or rooted)
Whether it worked or not, and if not, at what stage it crashed, plus any further comments.

Send the dev any info you like...it didn't help. I was in contact with him for a few weeks. I don't 'abandon hope' unless it's time to abandon it. After emailing back and forth for a few weeks, then not hearing back from the dev for the last 3 months, I would say it's abandonment time.

Good luck with getting things figured out around here.
Crappy app, perhaps, but only in terms of its failing to work for most who've tried it thus far. The idea itself is a brilliant one, I believe!

95% of brilliance is implementation.
I can think of a bazillion good app ideas...but making them actually work is where the real skill is. I am upset with padkite because they seem to have spent all this time on making a website and sharing the idea...then they spent 2 minutes actually BUILDING the app...and it's garbage.
This looks fantastic. I downloaded and try to join beta program, to improve your software.
And 14mb is nothing, nowdays phones have 1gb or so of ROM space. Or move it to SD card.

Are you suggesting that they faked the videos of padKite working on the Motorola (Droid?) phone? Because unless they did indeed fake the videos, then they had the app working on at least one phone! Obviously more than 2 minutes were spent, and I'm guessing the problem to be overcome is actually a rather minor yet befuddling one.
As stated earlier, I've seen padKite partially working on a mate's Xperia X8, so we aren't talking vaporware, here. Please, Mean Mr Mustard, change your heart and let hope in, and encourage others to do the same, instead of working against what you've already acknowledged is something good enough to upset you by virtue of not working for you.
There must be some out there who've been able to get padKite at least partially working. Chime in, fellows, and let's make this fairy well again!

DEV: WebOS on iPhone :)

I am starting a new project to port webOS over to the iPhone 3G 3GS and 4.
I have a website where i will be posting updates with project info. Also I am looking for someone with Linux experience as i have only a Windows 7 PC.
I need about 3 more people to help me with this.
Any takers?
Please PM if you think you can help thank you.

So you have a website, a blog, a webOS phone and an iPhone. That's a pretty unique skillset. I wonder why no-one with that set of things tried to port webOS to the iPhone before? Once you've got that skillset the rest must be pretty straight-forward, no?
BTW, you can get links to download the webOS firmware from HP's official servers here: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Webos_Doctor_Versions
Note that redistributing it (or any modifications of it) is illegal, so you may want to figure out that small issue first in your project plan ...
Good luck with your endeavour.

Are you being sarcastic, Rod? I suppose he deserves it by the know-how he puts forward. So if I get it right, he just has a website and wants others to develop and get the reward. Pretty nice business plan!
He also has a dream...the same one I have but I have an EVO 3d... Which I think should be easier...

Thanks very much for your offer.
Unfortunately, none of our developers use a Pre- these days for anything other than webOS 1.4.5 legacy testing.
I'm personally using a 1.4GHz 16GB HP Pre 3.
-- Rod
I dont get the point of it. Iphones are expensive and run unique hardware only made by apple. With that expense comes the seamless apple experience ,decent reliability and the proprietary is operating system. If your going to throw all that away, why even pay for the iphone to begin with. Their hardware is really no better than the stuff from htc. Htc hardware on the other hand is well understood and in fact,is very similar to the hardware in the touchpad.
Personally,I dont see the point of webOS on anything now. It honestly has few game changing features. What it does have is a unique UI that many people like. Rather than port webOS to other platforms, why not make a UI for android that takes the best things from webOS and throws out the bad ones, and fixes what needs to be fixed. Then you have something
really great, with a great UI,the ability to run android aps,but without many of the drawbacks of android.
As for your project,I doubt you will get any takers. What I suggest is you simply learn to do the work yourself. Start by downloading a Linux distro and installed it on an old pc.

Windows Phone "Jailbreak App Store" possibility?

is it possible that the entire windows phone cummunity could work together in making some sort of "Jailbreak App store" where all the homebrew apps could be in one place and would make it alot easier for the all of us?

Not sure how well an app store that fills up with hacked apps would work... (hacked being paid apps stolen and hacked to be side loaded)Wouldn't be promoted on here at least I wouldn't think. Now of it was just free apps, that might work but why wouldn't they just submit it to the actual app store.

That's cool but at this moment there's no usable/reliable jailbreak to begin with, and next to zero deep tweaking options.
Such an app would be violating xda forum rules
Read the OP.
He is looking for a place for Homebrew apps only, not pirated.
Something like Cydia I guess.
And the question of why not post them in the Marketplace is kind of silly, the answer is obvious: because they are Homebrew and probably going to take advantage of the phone hardware or OS in a way that Microsoft would not allow in the Marketplace.
I think it's a great idea.
This is a GREAT idea.
Not all developers want to pay USD99, go thru such a painful process that verified by GeoTrust (which I don't trust them ) or for the developers in the region where the marketplace is not supported to submit their homebrew apps.
Of course, to archive it; the first priority is, our phone MUST be unlock, which it is "possible" for those who came from 1st Generation of WP.
The new comer with their handset pre-install with Mango, I believe still have some long way to go before it get the unlock. Unless the promised Cheveron UnLock is available and No limit for side loading apps.
Lastly, I truly which to see such an alternative marketplace is soon be in service!

You know how there is cydia and all ios users need is to upload cydia on their device and they have access to all the homebrew apps. I like the wp alot nore then ios and i dont think that all of these homebrew apps could get accepted to the marketplace when some of them could change things that microsoft doesnt want touched.

Ya... you are absolutely right! Our phone all have the volume button and the unlock button, we just need to wait for the right guy to come out the rite apps.
