I have a question about the LG Shine PLus or LG CU720.
Is there going to be a ROm Development board and if so when. Kuzz I would mind getting Gingerbread to run on mine.
I know that Froyo is coming out this winter but I dont think that know one has tried to make a ROM for the shine.
anyone know?
I haven't seen anything at all for it yet. There is quite a bit for the LG Ally but it doesn't work on our Shine because there are quite a few differences between them. I'm just hoping 2.2 comes soon, so I can unroot it and and still use wifi tethering.
I do have a custom rom but there's nothing really fancy about it, other than it can be used for theming. It's available in the androidforums.net under the "all things root" Shine subforum.
It fixed the occasional random restart that I used to have, but that was the only difference I have noticed. I haven't found any other rom's than this one or any themes for it.
Just a shameless bump...
Here's my thread on the custom ROM / custom recovery image for the LG Shine Plus, for anyone interested. I've recently updated the instructions.

It has yet to be rooted from what I've seen. Once that happens then development can happen. My guess though it won't happen. I'm not sure why. Its a great phone.
ally rooted
The ally has been rooted. A quick google search will show instructions on how to do it, though I have yet to see any one crack into the bootloader. Still no roms either. It roots similar to the htc hero using asroot2. Hope this helps.
Rooted ally
As stated the ally has been rooted. There are many roms avail for it. Punisher, Velocity, Dapper, and more. Use google. and check savoxis.com or the.embeddedbsd.org
I've had the G1, MyTouch 3G, Incredible, Droid X, Nexus S, G2, Thunderbolt, and now the Charge --- and by far, the Charge has the ugliest built-in theme (brown/orange) I have ever seen on any phone and not to mention the tons of Verizon/Samsung bloatware, though the latter can be fixed by rooting it.
Don't get me wrong - I love my DC for a ton of reasons and am holding on to it, but I am desperately hoping there will be some form Gingerbread (preferably CM7) that remains as close as possible to stock anytime soon. Anyone know if something like this is in the works?

while anything is possible...and im not saying this to be a jerk, just a realist...its extremely unlikely the charge will ever see an extremely functional cm7 or aosp
its taken months for the fascinate to have anything resembling working aosp and even now there are issues (mms, camcorder) that may never be worked out due to samsungs incomplete/lousy source
through lte/cdma hybrid ril in there, and the lack of devs who worked on aosp for the fasciante...and thats just a death sentence really for aosp
now im pretty certain this phone will get gingerbread from samsung/verizon...i mean 1. its in the droid line which means something and 2. its brand new now and id find it hard to see it not get it
when that is? who knows...but theres that to look forward to at some point
I see your point and you're exactly right, especially when the GS2 may be here in about 2~4 months. Well what ever the dev can work out for us I'll welcome it. All I need is a super clean ROM and voodoo on the Charge lol
Hey I can dream right?

it looks like imnuts is getting closer to his goal to buy a charge....so im sure you ll have ext4 kernels, and clean roms soon enough
Just got a Charge for my daughter. Nice phone. May finally upgrade my CM7 OG Droid, but haven't made up my mind. Still kinda waiting on SGS2. I would love to be able to put a stock ROM on her phone though. The bloat is amazing.
I'm just wandering why the O2X firmware hasn't been kanged to run on the G2X. I would like to try the proprietary LG interface on my G2x,would anyone else? I guess im just curious. Is it lack of interest or a technical issue that keep devs from trying this?
Just lack of interest I'd say. All it needs is g2x ril I think and removal of possible brick inducing things (e.g baseband). Also lack of gb.
You can install the LG and Samsung Launchers as separate APK's. The thread is in this forum from a few months ago.
The MAIN thread is in the General Android thread I think, which a link to all the different launchers like Sony Eperia and others.
i really want to try an O2x rom too but unfortunantly we dont have devs that do -_-
I also want the O2X rom for the G2X
where can i find the O2X launcher anyways?
Now that I know its not GB ive lost interest
I'm not necessarily a "developer", but I'm willing to try creating an O2x ROM when I get some free time. I'm joining the Marines next summer, and I've been going to the gym a lot lately.
was thinking about this the other day, it would be nice to see it, they have little things that differ that we didn't get. little UI things, keyboard, music player, widgets... I think it'd be nice to play with.
Bump bump bump
BUMP
Someone should really port it, idk if they got gingerbread on the o2x but even the froyo rom would be good for me i just want the o2x rom for the g2x and im pretty sure its not hard at all if i knew how to port roms i wouldve definetly ported it by now but i dont so hopefully one of the amazing devs can do it
I'm almost positive WhiteHawkx could do it cause he ports the O2X MIUI to the g2x, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to do but I know I couldn't... I can root and properly flash things thats it, lol.
i say lets do it cuz the LG O2x has some good roms and i would love to see it on my phone for a good change from stock
too bad i cant help but i wish there could be a group or something that could work on it
I know im late and i am not a professional developer but i have all the necessary files to create an o2x rom for the g2x rom. i already started the process of editing cm7 and its going very well. it might be finished very soon. Well, its sort of the o2x rom but not exactly. i need to edit a few things to make the theme auto applied on the first boot of the rom then i might be done and i am also editing the apps that the other developers have ported for us. i am editing them to make them faster and smoother and killing all the bugs that i can.
This is one of my thread it has the main things to make ur g2x to look like o2x and these apps were by other people but i am editing them- http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/cm7-hdpi-mdpi-make-cm7-phone-look-lg-t3369043 the launcher of it has bugs so i will edit it to make that launcher work perfectly. the launcher keeps force closing whenever u put a widget on the home screen. but that will be fixed when i release the rom. :good:
I am new to flashing, but I want to get ICS on my Samsung Captivate which will not receive an official 4.0 update from Samsung. There are multiple options for ICS roms; the two I have heard most about are Doc Master's and Team Hacksung's CM9 (alpha). Please leave comments as to the general stability for the most up to date versions of the roms if you have experience with them. I am not interested in a buggy rom; i want one that is stable and that has most/all functions. I am a little bit confused on both forums for these roms how stable these roms are. Especially Doc Master's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462035). It does not list any specific bugs for the versions; does this mean everything works? I'm new to this so I am confused.
Also, if I would flash one of these ICS roms and decide it is too buggy, or I don't want it anymore, can I get back to my stock Gingerbread 2.3.5 (what I currently have). If so, how? Is the best way to make a nandroid backup of my stock rom (does that work for stock?)? If not, what is.
I appreciate your help.
Help please!
Bump. I really would appreciate any help.

ICS rom
I have flashed the 2 roms you asked about. I liked them both until I found Dark Knights ICS 4.0.4. Everything works and it is smooth and fast. I have tried others also, I also liked MIUI but Dark Knights is the best so far for me.
If you search XDA you will find the answers to your other questions. You just have to be willing to read a few threads. When I started I screwed up just about every way you can think of and someone was willing to help me out.
If you go to You tube and search for videos on how to flash your Captivate, many will come up (I am a visual person). Look for videos from Josh at Mobile Tech Videos. He knows what he is talking about and is a great help.
It would probably be better if you posted this question in the captivate forums.
I would post the link but I don't have the power to do that yet.
As for your question, I am currently running the CM9 Alpha version and am loving it. It has been my daily driver for quite some time and I would definitely recommend using this ROM.
All of your questions can be found in the captivate forums. You'll have to read a lot but it's better to read more so you know what you're getting yourself in to.
So i'm well aware that the 4.3 ota has screwed over a lot of us galaxy sIII verizon users. I used to happily install custom roms over CWM Recovery. Trust me, I know this has been asked time and again but there is a twist to my post so bare with me if you are one of those people with the fame of suggesting a feeble search when searching for a post with a similar topic in this case (as in related to this particular topic) usually just causes more confusion with an assortment of vague answers from the same people who suggested the search. Anyway, I am another dummy who installed 4.3 ota after running into some problems that led me eventually to reflash stock and to my dismay I accidentally used the 4.3 rom. It goes without saying what kind of problems I had to deal with after that, especially trying to deal with the ugly touchwiz interface.
SO MY QUESTION. Is there any progress from any devs that would suggest a fix in the near future? I am highly doubtful of this, and am pretty much considering dumping this phone altogether. But if someone can at least humor me, or suggest an alternative phone on the verizon network that is worth the but, and doesn't bring with it the problems that I have now, that would be great, I'm all ears.
I know current solutions consist of safestrapping (touchwiz based only roms as far i've read), or just rooting and installing mods to ease the situation. I've also read about other possible exploits like lokis which as far I know went nowhere.

No known progress, could be some progress behind the scenes. Remember, if someone does find an exploit for the s5 the s3 will likely have the same vulnerability. Nobody is going to tell anybody they're working on it.
Only phones I know of that can be unlocked are the HTC m7 and m8. I think all other phones are locked, but maybe the LG phones can be unlocked.

Most Motorola Droids are unlock able now! I had a Motorola RAZR m before this phone, and when the new kitkat update rolled out, the old bootloader came back in, allowing you to root with towelroot and unlock your bootloader with the motopocalypse app! Check them out. Droid RAZR m is pretty cheap. Definitely worth it if you like customizations.
