Has anyone tried the new LiveProfile app. They released it today for BB so its the closest thing we have to BBM. So far im loving it, its really fast! What do you guys think?
I love it!
Moving from blackberry to android had me missing all my bbm friends, but now I can talk to pretty much everyone with a smartphone lol. Awesome.
Liveprofile so fast.. but need more media sharing, group chat
I now using whatsapp, its almost like a bbm
Pingchat is better then whatsapp as you can add people via a username instead if phone number
whats the advantage of this over Ping?
Ping never really worked for me. This has a really nice UI smileys, facebook integration. Plus ping is a huge battery drain according to my friends on BB.
It's way to buggy!!!!! But it has gotten really popular

it seemed to work so much better before they added BB users. Hopefully they continue to improve things and add new features
Works great for me but updating my profile with a pic took half a day to show up.
But the chats are fast.

Anyone having performance issues with their charge? I had high expectations for this phone but im getting lag in just about everything. . IE this forum scrolling through threads is way laggy compared to fascinate. Im not sure if I have a bunk phone or if the hardware sucks or if its the ROM just sucks. Any hope for this phone?
No I'm noticing some laggy browsing as well. Coming from the Droid Incredible i figured this would be much quicker. At times I think 3g on it was faster than wifi on this. Im sure it'll speed up once the cache builds up for the sites i browse. I also notice my linpack and quadrant scores are pants on this. I would love root and a new kernel but that damn ota seems to be holding us back.
My guess is its the charge's browser. I read reviews where it has bad problems with sites with a lot of flash (such as the ads). just tried this site on both the stock browser and dolphin browser and dolphin browser works fine.
It was nearly unreadable on the stock browser. So try a browser from the market.

You're right, browsing on Dolphin seems much faster. It does still hang at the end but it isn't nearly as bad.
Also, while I know its a completely different phone from what I had, the keyboard and auto-correct drive me absolutely mental.
Auto correct can be turned off in menu->settings->keyboard
I just noticed that I have two burnt out pixels .. ack. bright red dots, mostly noticeable on boot screens.
I think it's the ROM. Everything seems sluggish / lags randomly on my charge. So far it really feels like touchwiz is to blame, but I imagine the filesystem is partially to blame.
It really sucks that my year old Incredible seems faster than a brand new "flagship" phone.
I removed alot of bloatware installed launcher pro and Opera mini, then I also removed Touch wiz and the phone is alot faster. Installing launcher pro and then removing/renaming the touch wiz apk made a big difference performance wise. I have no lag when using the interface now. And yes the stock browser is crap, I thought it was the phone as well, but after installing Opera I notice a big difference.
what exactly does the TouchWiz app do? What do you lose by freezing it?

TouchWiz is Samsung's launcher. Do NOT freeze or remove it before downloading an alternative (such as LauncherPro) and rebooting to activate it. Otherwise ODIN will be in your immediate future.

Oh Okay, well, I have to ODIN anyways if I decide to root, I had not read the forums yet before accepting ED2 the day I got the phone. I use LauncherPro anyways, but that's good to know.

Just picked up the Charge on Saturday..coming from a rooted eris. .did notice a little lag. Immediately installed launcher pro and noticed quite a difference.
One thing i notice is the menu keys do not light up..making it a little difficult to use in the dark. Any one else experience this and find a solution.
Thanks

I believe the keys not lighting up was also the default behavior for the Fascinate, and that was resolved with a custom kernel. This may be inaccurate, as I came from the Droid X, but luckily the key layout is identical so I didn't need any time to relearn.

The only real problem I have with the sensation, is it's speed. It's taking forever to get here. Sense 3.0 lagged my delivery time. Dual core my ass!
Anybody else having this problem? Figured I'd ask as all others seem to be having a problem in some way or another with the Sensation.

+1 Agreed.
Mine is flying. I think you're confuse about speed and smoothness. If you think you don't, exchange.
Honestly the Sensation doesn't seem any smoother with Sense 3.0 than my G2 running Virtuous Unity 1.24 @ 1.2ghz. But I bought it for the 4.3" screen and thin form factor.
Oh dear. I think you misread the original post.

Just wondering, do you consider this guy's Sensation fast and smooth?
Ok, want some quicktips to get a sensation out of your smartphone ?
-root it
-get some good system apps
-remove all unnecessary apps/systemapps
-secure it
-optimize it
-replace sense with zeam launcher/ something else.
-Overlock it if possible
-clean the autostarts
and voila, you got your sensation.
ps: for more information check out my sig.

I got a Sidekick 4G ( Sensation ) lolol .
about to get a OC'ed Lagfix kernal hehe . w/ a nice ROM w/ TouchWiz 4.0
I have used 4 brand new Sensations with nothing loaded on them and all of them have performed differently. I'm trying to make sense (pun intended) of it. The first one I got was fast and smooth, the second one was laggy as hell, the third was a little laggy and the forth one was fast and smooth. Does anyone know why the same device would act differently when it comes to performance?
Here is a little video I made. Let me know if yours is this fast.

That looks just like mine. I consider it fast and smooth. But then I'm coming from a Vibrant, a picture of which is in the dictionary under "laggy".
I tried a demo unit at a TMO store and it was not as smooth. A bit jerky or stuttery when flipping between home screens. I disabled animation, but it made no diff. So, it does seem there's an odd variation between phones.

Yea, I wouldn't keep the auto install option on. For some reason I think it makes the phone slower. What is the carousel effect? I know what the carousel is but what is it doing? Engaging every time you go to scroll side to side? Both mine and my wife's Sensations are pretty damn fast. Not quite as fast as the G2X since it's running vanilla but I have no doubt in my mind that the Sensation will be just as fast once we get the bloatware and Sense off of it. I have not restarted my phone for 3 days now and have never gone that long with any other Android device. Usually when day two rolls around, my devices start to bog out but not my Sensation. Might be the added RAM or something. Once we get everything off of it though. We are going to have over 400mb of free memory sitting on the phone.

If you go into privacy settings there is a option called "Back up my Settings" and "Automatic Restore". If you enable both of them, all of your settings and apps will be backed up on Googles servers so when ever you get a new phone or reset your phone, all of your apps will be installed automatically and all of your phone settings will stay the way you had them. I have done this about 6 times with the same phones and every time I do it, the phone performs slower for some reason. I know it sounds weird but it does. Try it out though. See what happens.

I guess you were talking about how long it took to get in the Sensation forums through the XDA app. Were you being vague on purpose? You made it seem like a general statement. Next time, try to specify what exactly is lagging.
The dual core processor had nothing to do with getting here. The second core will not kick in unless it needs to and lets be honest, the XDA app doesn't need two cores to run it. There have been plenty of times I have seen the dual core CPU do its thing. I blew through, what my Nexus S and Nexus 1 would have lagged through.
Lastly, to respond with an answer for your post. Sometimes these forums get a ton if traffic in a short period ff of time which causes them to lag. There are also plenty of people working on these forums all day long to keep them running so people like me and you can agrue over dumb **** the other person probably knows both about.

Hi folks
I'm still on the edge between an iPhone and a HOX. Could someone please discuss the state of the multitasking issues on the AT&T HOX and summary of fixes?
Specifically my question is this: there are some services that always need to be running to get notifications, like free texting apps or skype. Some services upload photos in the background, like Dropbox. Is it true that these services get killed by the multitasking as well on stock?
I've heard that Dropbox does get killed. I've never heard anything about skype and similar apps that need to sit in the background listening, so I imagine they are working fine on stock Sense?

When I was on Sense roms with stock multitasking, I never had issues with long-running background services being killed. It was only things like the browser being killed and having to reload and other apps that have their front end killed.
Can't really comment on the services you mentioned, but just some general observations about multi-task:
Some people have complained that during games, if you do something else, like say someone sends you an SMS and you respond, that when you go back to the game, your progress will not have been saved. I don't have time for games these days. So I can't personally comment on that.
Really, it depends on how you use your phone. For some people, the multi-tasking behavior is a deal breaker. For me, I'm fine with it. I mostly only notice it when leaving the browser. It will almost always have to reload the webpage you were looking at.
Have you actually compared the iPhone and the One X in person? There really is no comparison between the two. The huge gorgeous screen of the One X makes the iPhone look like a toy.
You're worried about multitasking but you're willing to go iPhone? Lol hox will be fine
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Well the iPhone is going to get a bigger screen. The PPI and brightness are almost the same between iPhone and HOX.
And iphone doesn't kill your game progress and clear your text entry fields when you switch apps. And it doesn't silently kill Dropbox while it's uploading (it does kill it, but gives Dropbox a chance to notify of that first).
The jailbreak tweaks for iPhone are for my purposes completely on par with android.
My only reasons for considering switching is that the iPhone is going to get harder and harder to jailbreak (I'm expecting a 6 month wait this time). plus lose google maps which is a huge debacle.
I'm open to HOX but would need a fix to the multitasking issues.

That's just a rumor, and its been the same (incorrect) rumor for the last 1-2 iPhone versions, at least.
My bet is on the screen size of the iPhone is not changing any time soon. If they make the screen much larger, and keep the resolution the same, it will look like crap. If they change the screen resolution, they fragment the iOS that they have keep pretty much unified for 5 years. People keep talking about the "iPad Mini" (something around a 7" iPad), but my hunch is that is not going to happen either, for the same reasons of not fragmenting iOS. But those are just my personal gut feelings.
And seriously, if you haven't held a One X in person, do it. The screen size is gigantic compared to the iPhone. You have to see it to believe it. My previous phone was a Desire Z, which had a form factor not much different from the iPhone. When I go back to it (pulled some files off it), I can't believe I ever used a phone with a screen that small. Similar feelings when I pick up my wife's iPhone.

There has been some fixes to multi-tasking, both available as a stand-alone mod, and on custom ROMs. So check out Development, and read more on it if nobody chimes in about those here. As I mentioned, I've been fine with multitasking. So I haven't tried any of the mods.
Also, the Asia 2.23 firmware makes changes to both the multitasking (how aggressively idle processes are killed) and free memory at boot (how much memory Sense takes). A new AT&T firmware (2.20) is just now rolling out OTA as we speak, and likely has the same tweaks. So that in itself might fix what you want. But like I said, I don't game these days, so I can't say.

I don't think it's going to be 4.7" big. That's quite a shoe to fill. PPI is less of an issue for both the phones. Unless you have amazing vision or whip out a magnifying glass, you can't even see individual pixels. A higher PPI is usually a better thing, but beyond a certain point, it becomes indistinguishable.

At least with an HTC One X you can control how the multitasking behaves. However, I do want to address two issues: 1) the clearing of the text boxes has more to do with the apps you're using than the multitasking itself and 2) unlike the HTC One X, apps like Dropbox can't just linger in the background and upload new images as they're taken. I ran into that limitation quite a bit back when I still had my iPhone.

I know this may sound like blasphemy in this community, but I wouldn't ever recommend buying a phone simply based on what you can do after you root/jailbreak. Usually you can reasonably expect a method for root/jailbreak to come alone, but you can never guarantee it. Always pick a device based on how it suits your needs and desires without any extensive modifications.
All of this being said, even with multitasking being as it is on the HTC One X, I'd still recommend it over an iPhone. As previous users have mentioned, the effect of the stock multitasking setting is only visible on things like web browsers and some games. If you go under the system settings and modify its behavior, you'll probably achieve the desired effect. If you don't feel like tweaking system settings, you can always install an app like SMS Popup which lets you quick-rely to messages without ever leaving your current task.
One thing I do pride Android on is the ability to have background tasks for applications. With my iPhone I would find that (aside from default apps like Mail and Messages) certain apps wouldn't provide notifications when they should have. For example: if I hadn't launched Words with Friends since a reboot, I'd never get notifications from it. Same thing with uploading images from Dropbox.
The other thing that persuaded me to switch to an Android device was the ability to customize and personalize out of the box. On an iPhone, the most you can do is change backgrounds/sounds/icon arrangement. On an Android device you have full control over your home screen. You can manipulate icons arbitrarily (putting gaps between them, skipping pages, remove icons without uninstalling the app, etc), you can install widgets to quickly access information/settings/apps at a glance, live wallpapers, and even make shortcuts (such as a one-click "Directions to get Home" and "Sound Settings"). Heck, you can even install custom keyboards.
All-in-all it took me about a week to get used to how Android does things, but whenever I play with my old iPhone (my girlfriend uses it now), things just don't feel quite right. The best way to describe it is that on my HTC One X, I get to make the rules. I get to decide how things look and feel and how the system responds to my actions. Playing with my iPhone I feel like I'm not making any of my own rules. Sure, I can change some settings, but compared to Android it feels like a thin veil over how Apple things I should use my device.
Get everything you want now, or wait for a possibility.
Btw multitasking never kills any of those things mentioned. Drop box never stops during uploads.
Android> iOS

Thanks for the replies. I have spent about an hour playing with HOX in store and tons of time researching whether it can suit my needs.
Franklly it has been hard to track down android equivalents of everything I can do on jail broken iOS. For reading full emails without unlocking the device it looks like a combination of widget locker and a few widgets can do it, but it just feels a bit hacked together and not as polished as Lockinfo on iOS, which is a one-stop solution. And there doesn't quite appear to be any replacement for Activator, which is a unified gesture framework where you can do things like turn on the flashlight by pushing both volume buttons at the same time and bring up the previous app with a slide on the status bar. Now I know if I look hard enough something similar for android will turn up but will it be as well supported as these iOS tweaks with hundreds of thousands of users? not so sure.
In the I think the iPhone is under appreciated here in terms of how professional the jailbreak community is and how it can easily match android for power and tweak ability. The main issue is that apple is hiring the jailbreak developers and jail breaking itself will be incredibly hard as time progresses because it relies on patching binaries and finding vulnerabilities.
The multitasking seems to be improved in the 4.0.4 update.

Some of the people here may say its not that bad, but trust me dude compared to other android phones its pretty damn bad, bad enough for me to get rid of the phone. Ie, if you are listening to music and browsing. Go change the song and come back to be greeted by the web browser reloading the WHOLE PAGE over again.
Really go play with one in the store before you make your decision id say, as a poster before me mentioned one of the gleaming features of android is its ability to multitask amazingly, if thats absent then its terrible. Imo the multi tasking on the hox is below even that of the iphone. Just really play with it before you make a decision, with that said i wouldnt necessarily say the hox is a worser phone than the iphone even, it isnt. Its a great phone and is still imo better than the 4s today.
I REALLLLY do miss my hox sometimes though, the amazing build quality. and the display really owns anything else on the market right now.

Well, the new recent update made multitasking a LOT better. As in it doesn't suck.

Correctamundo... I was referring the very well documented multitasking woes on 1.73 and 1.85. But from all I've read, the new update goes a long way to fix multitasking. Looking forward to getting it! I really love this phone, even if I do stick to only the stock ROMs.
I went from the HTC One to this, and I am a little disappointed here. The HTC One was beautiful, great, etc, but I went with this phone for a a more future proof reason. The thing I am confused about is how is this phone lagging? The One did not lag, and I am not by any means trying to start up a debate between the two, but why does this phone lag? Anybody experiencing odd lag? (opening closing apps have a hiccup, widgets, scrolling)
The screen seems to have a good amount of ghosting, but I assume that is because this is a PenTile super saturated screen, so it won't be as smooth movement as an LCD screen. (I freakin' love this screen, by the way)
Also, Samsung, I know if I raise the volume it could possible damage my ears, quit popping a message up every time I do this.
Also...
For the stock browser and Chrome, the screen slightly dims itself upon opening, doesn't do it with Firefox though.
Small things, small gripes. These small grips bothering anyone else?
It seems odd, this is my first Samsung device, but it seems like it's not a consistent experience. It just launched, I know, but I did not think one of the big brands would have these issues.

Yup, bloatware. My Galaxy S3 running CM 10.1 was FAST. Patiently waiting.
well htc one is in android 2.1 now it may have the same problem when you upgrade to 4.2 I guess .
To solve the lag, you may turn on Force Gpu option in developer setting, but it causes battery.

That did nothing, but I changed the animations to 0.5x and they go so quick, I don't notice it anymore. I sincerely hope that Samsung/AT&T push out something to fix this, I don't feel like a phone with an overclocked Snapdragon 600 should be going through this.
Set animations to zero and the phone will be even quicker. You won't miss a thing. Good luck.
The lag is very bad. It really makes me wanna throw this device against the wall. Coming from an S3 and Note 2 this feels like a huge downgrade, seriously.
I do know though that now that the boot loader has been unlocked, developers can start making custom roms. That and I know there will be many updates. The lag will not last forever.

That doesn't do anything. The browser, messaging app, and gallery all lag within. Samsung needs to properly optimize their software for the Snapdragon 600.
If your using Nova launcher, go to Nova Settings - Look and Feel - App Animations. Change it to ICS or slide. This has removed any stutter for me with the opening and closing app transitions.

You guys aren't addressing his main problem. He's upset about lag within the apps themselves.
To Op, just be patient and either Samsung or devs here will address it. It's clearly software related.
Also, the screen darkening happens if you have certain battery saving things turned on. Is your energy saver on?

I think he's concerned about a few things. Stuttering as I mentioned before. He mentions opening and closing apps have a hiccup. See below.

I've completely disabled any energy saving, even auto adjust screen tone. This happens only with Chrome and stock browsers. It's a light dimming from brightness being full, seemed odd.

Yes, you're right. They have an odd stutter. The sad thing is, we shouldn't have to do anything to stop this from happening. lol
Also, the stutters happen even when opening/closing/navigating the settings, and I saw it stutter a few times closing the app drawer, that one surprised me.
How do you guys feel about the ghosting/tracers on text or objects when moving quickly?
Oh wow, Force GPU actually did it for me. Thanks! Lol

The whole thing stutters pretty bad. Can't wait for the bootloader unlock an roms.

A couple of quick suggestions:
-Hard Reset when you get the phone. A few people have commented that after a re-flash the phone runs smoother
-disable animations and the screen unlock ripples/light BS. The ripple caused issues with the GS3, so this is just an assumption on my part.
-Force GPU helps
-Freeze and apps especially bloat you don't use.
-Since this seems to be a common issue for everyone, I would hope that Samsung/Att will have a small update in the coming months. I will not hold my breathe though.

This actually does help a lot to reduce the lag.. Did this a few days ago and it has def helped!
I felt the same way about my S3 for a long time until I finally flashed tasks AOKP with ktoonz kernel.
For reference, I think the size of the stock rom on the s4 is somewhere around two gigs as opposed to tasks AOKP which was around 500 or 600 MB's.
I haven't even activated my S4 yet because of the frustration I know I would endure when switching between apps, or texting, or pretty much doing anything.
My S3 is RIDICULOUSLY fast now so I have the utmost confidence that once the Verizon phone is out and the ROMs start rolling in, all the lag will be gone once you get away from TouchWiz.
[edit] Task I see you lurking around the S4 boards. I don't know what it all means, but I LIKE it!!!

This poster on a Rogers S4 claims he received a factory update that help the performance of his phone...

Maybe AT&T will push a similar update to help with performance issues.
