[Q] [ROM] FolioMod Nvidia edition - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

seems to be a concern whether i should use original framework from Toshiba with its better hardware support, or make a Nvidia framework edition with less good support for speciifc parts of the hardware like BT and USB.
So question with this poll would be what is the preference here..

If you can pack all the supported stuff in there, better hardware support from toshiba should make it more stable, right?
btw. : Is this the Foliomod offtopic thread?
I'd like to rage about the toshiba forums somewhere.

this was actually an incorrect post, sadly it got posted..
you find the "general" thread here for OT non-foliomod topic.

Nvidia
Hi Dexter
I tried 1b but returned to v2 because it seems a fair bit more responsive.
My vote is for Nvidia and some wifi and bluetooth fixes.
Thanks again btw

as Nvidia uses a different hardware, this is likely not going to work very well with toshiba hardware.

Dear Dexter_nlb
At first, I bring to you a thanks from more than 100 Chinese users. Your roms realy fix lot of prolbem for AS100.
I translated your question and post it at a most popular android forums in China Yesterday.
Until now, 9 people agree a Nvidia framework ROM, 3 people want still keep Toshiba framework.
In that post, all users hope can fix the gravity sensing's prolbem (the gravity upside down in some gam, and run the Bubble in landscape screen time)
3 users want keep app from Tosiba, like Tosiba market, FileMgr.
Just 1 user want keep the Tosiba Desktop.
Hope that infomation can help you.
sorry about my english not good, but i think you can read it.

thanks for all your feedback!
i think the only way forward, is that i keep both editions alive..
having 0.2 being nvidia based moving forward from 0.2a ->
and Toshiba edition which personally i like, to move from a 1.0 state and forward.
i might just need to change name of one of them..
but yes, it seems somehow majority want a nvidia, with less hardware functionality (at least seen from 0.2) and maybe with BT fixes in future update.
and that i might just agree on IF i cannot fix paid apps download, which for 2 days has been really annoying. (i even got an account from a supporter with a paid app, so i could test this)
if time is available, i will try and make 0.2a grow with a 100% 360degree fix and hopefully a better BT fix.

I just know the 0.2 editon from Nvdia framework. So I will posted a new thread with that point, for ask all guys again.
Because now they all using 10.b and think it's handy for use. (exclude someone fear of the risk of refresh ROM. XD )
But, our timezone now is 4:31AM, i guess maybe tomo can give you a feedback.

In my opinion it would be best to keep on devolloping the toshiba edition. I also think it would be cool if we could choose between a couple of launcers after te installation.
Also, why make versions with and/or withoud certain app's? (toshiba marktplace) Users can always add or delete these

? (0.2 is stock based, so no toshiba apps work well)
1.0b is toshiba stock firmware based with updates, so all their apps included as found in their release..
somehow, your question is understood..

I'm glad to see that some people share my concerns.
I've tested all the mod that you, Dexter have setup.
My conclusion is that Toshiba have tried to put some multimedia friendly stuffs in front of the scene but they partially failed on the finish line.
As we can experience this release can play movie in high quality but the UI freeze randomly. It's really difficult to setup a complete full media.
On the other side the nvidia release is fast, consumers cherry less and only tried to
prove the velocity of the hardware. I'm sure they are working hard on android since
as we can see tegra2 is coming to the smartphone tablet and other tegra is on the
way.
On the ToshMod(proposition) we can only integrate what toshiba is providing. Are they still working on the tablet after the folio selling fiasco ?
On the DextMod nvidia will provide for sure new release but we need to community and time to setup all goodies required for basic consumers. This release
is favored by developpers.
Since Dexter is working alone (until now) i think it's much more easy to continue on the toshmod to get results and new features. If we can get some more ressources then DexterMod based on nvidia would be more open.
It's just present conclusions, please share yours views

nvidia mod is better, more responsive and faster.

Hey Dexter, take a look to http://tegramid.com/wiki/Main_Page.
It seems they just published the whole gpl kernel source including toshiba frameworks and drivers.
I'm downloading it right now and cannot confirm the content.

its good!, im using the kernel source right now to check functionality of all drivers.. but im unable to compile. seems debian is no good for this..
i probably need a VM install with different linux..

Android porting is a mess!!!!! If you follow all directions on android porting, nothing will work as google says! First of all froyo will compile only on a amd64 linux version, then you will discover that the recommended jdk5 is not requested...
grunt :S
I hate Android

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 amd64 (x64 is required for froyo) running into a virtualbox hosted by winxp and works like a charm.
I did also an hack to get raw access the hd without using virtual disk images.

in not new to android by any means and i have no idea what that is lol wana explane and maby i could help u out i feel so noobish lol
OpenGL ES 2.0 was publicly released in March 2007[1], eliminates most of the fixed-function rendering pipeline in favor of a programmable one. Almost all rendering features of the transform and lighting pipelines, such as the specification of materials and light parameters formerly specified by the fixed-function API, are replaced by shaders written by the graphics programmer. As a result, OpenGL ES 2.0 is not backwards compatible with OpenGL ES 1.1.
aka 3d and hd games play Opengl ES

It works! This is fun, currently playing with this ROM paired with P3Droids lv250 1200mhz kernel. Runs extremely well all things considered.
Aside from the the bugs mentioned the only other issues I've found are
- Two seemingly identical stock gallery and email programs installed. Neither of which can be uninstalled via app manager.
- My computer does not see the phone when plugged in via USB and phone does not ask to connect to computer. I have not done anything with ADB yet.
- The phone will auto rotate horizontal when the keyboard is opened but will not rotate back when closed in some applications.
Ill post/edit if something new comes up

Hi there. I'm the guy that put this little thing together. I did not build this myself/from source. I just happened to take a few things that were working on various builds and glue them together. It does play 3D games and what not, but since the accelerometer does not work, it doesn't really do a whole lot of good. I'm not sure exactly what OPENGL version it has, or how to check it, but if you point me in the right direction, I'm sure I can figure it out for you. (Found this in the Build.prop: # The OpenGL ES API level that is natively supported by this device.
# This is a 16.16 fixed point number
ro.opengles.version = 131072)
As far as the issues, they have been well documented in the original thread on DroidForums. Just to break them down for you though...
Broken:
1)GPS (which also causes browser and any other location finder service associated apps to close when attempting to locate.) You can use a different browser, or set home page to something other than Google.
2)Accelerometer. I'm assuming it is because there are some new sensors included in Gingerbread. I thought it might have something to do with the akmd file, but I've tried a few different ones with no luck...
3)USB Storage. This is an easy fix with an app in the Market place called Multi Mount SD. They have a free and paid version. Dual Mount also works. These are widgets and must be used as such.
As far as the "duplicate" apps, they are different versions of the same app and are easily removed with Titanium Backup.
Most likely, this is not your every day rom. I have been using it, because it's fun to run something you had a hand in making, but it's not considered stable. With that being said, it's the easiest to use rom that we have available and no other Motorola phones really have anything else better, so enjoy what we have.
Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas / Insert whatever gives you warm and fuzzy feelings here.
PS. I am not a dev, so really can't trouble shoot anything too effectively. I've been trying different things to fix the issues, but have not had much luck. I was hoping some devs on DF would pick up on the interest in this project and be able to figure it out, but not much luck so far.
PSS. Definitely suggest flashing another kernel once you set the original rom up and do a nandroid. A lot of the 2.2 kernels work. I've had the most luck with Slayher interactive ones. Try a 1200 one. It's pretty quick...

No can do, sorry. I'm not a dev, so I wouldn't even have the slightest idea how to do such a thing. Plus I dunno anyone with a Milestone to play with. From what I understand, it is quite a pain in the neck due to the differences between the GSM and CDMA.

Not sure about the camcorder. Mine works for me. The browser thing has been discussed many times on all Gingerbread threads. You can't go through the browser's regular home page because location services is not working. Internet works if you:
A) Change the home page to something other than Google.com
B) Get a different browser.
C) Go through the Google Search Box.
It feels like it is 2.2 with some add-ons, because that is exactly what 2.3 is. It's not a major OS revision. Most of the work is behind the scenes dealing with memory management, speed, and such. If it's not faster for you than 2.2, that's odd (if you have not flashed a new kernel with this, highly recommended). There won't be a fully functioning rom till someone is able to figure out how to get some of the proprietary drivers rewritten to work with this boot.img. Not exactly a task for a beginner. Motorola certainly is giving any handouts, so be happy with what ya have.
There are people working on it though, you just have to be patient. It's not something as simple as, "Oh, I'll just add this or that file and everything magically works."
I'm glad some of you are enjoying it though. Blackdroid's team is working on an Alpha. Still broken accelerometer with half working GPS. Hopefully in the next week or 2, he'll push some more stable builds out. Until then, just use this to show off and have a back up of your favorite stable rom. Take care...

ideos (u8150) development team? I.D.T

Hello to all of my ideos (u8150) users and developers. today an amazing developer stopped working on an amazing rom, (which i have on my ideos) and because of this i browsed many roms for this phone and came up with nothing that could compare to it, and inspiration struck and i thought "since work for the rom is discontinued, and there is lack of support for many other roms, why not try to ban together a team to work on an even better rom?
before continuing, let me point out im not a dev. matter of fact i know nothing about writing roms, but i do know that the ideos is a brillant phone that deserves a strong team to back up software for it. thats where the developers that i will try to recruit will come in.
the basic idea of this "project" is simple.
1. one developer will start with a basic version. when he is done with contributions, he will then pass it on to another, then another, and so on.
2. finally, when the team sees the project as coming to a rap, the rom will be distributed through out the team and tested, and as problems come up, the team can collaberate on the issues, and when everything is working properly, RELEASE!!!!!
now i know some readers of this will ask "whats the difference between this and how roms are made now? well its simple, the objective of this is to expand the margin of knowledges from different locations, instead of using near by developers and friends. keep in mind what one area knows, one may not.
anyway, any dev is welcome to join to the project. rules and regs will be added when a variety of members have joined.
also, if any ideas of how the team will collaberate come up, feel free to offer up what you got
PLEASE JOIN!!!!!
come on people give me feed back!!!
a little incentive? okay. if a larger development team works on the roms then, roms could be produced faster, and more efficent. so if any developers are out there reading, then take up the project. with alot of devs, it wont be too time consuming either, thus making it so you could work on your own roms as well.
Greetings :hi:
I'm in ^^
not a .dev or much of anything @ the mo  owned the U8150 for a couple months now (previously modding Motorola)
bricked & brought back to life my IDEOS four times... (so far) ph seems pretty indestructible but very sensitive to any system fiddling.
linux is confusing the heck outa me :chortle: back to the bottom of the learning curve I guess
but I'll help in any way I can...
great, im glad i have another supporter on bored !!!!! the first thing that needs to be done befor anything is rally up more support. we need devs, stat. even if they dont normally do ideos roms, the more support for this we get, the better the chances of this working out. if possible i would like to get the development process started sometime this week so i really need you to get any, higher ups or (most importantly) developers, to get on bored.
and for any ideos user reading this, its for all of our benifits so help out too!!!!
also, i would like to point out, that the process i listed to begin with dosnt have to be how it works. i want the devs to decide how the collaberation works.
just think of all the things that yall want out of the ideos. if this happens, there will be a higher chance of these things happening.
1. 3D
2. can i hear a 2.3?
3. cyanogen mod
4. over clocking that actually works!!!!
5. maybe instead of knock offs of 2.2 or 2.2 with a different launcher and them, we could actually see REAL homebrew roms that are 100% user created.
now you cant tell me that dosnt sound good right?
I want overclocking that works
well there you go!!!! as soon as we can get some developers on bored with "working together" then we might can achieve that and many other goals.
I am in,
My idea is not to have many features and concentrating on developing 2.3 first and then slowly on 3.0.
alright!!!!!! but let me go ahead and tell you, 3.0 would blow up an ideos . it wont even load a honeycomb theme much less the system. (turns ideos into a pile of ask and smoke.) 2.3 would be the better focus in my opinion. but anyway back to the thanks yous and campaigning, thanks for joining and if possible get every single person (even if the only electronic they know how to use is vcr) that is at least somewhat capable of programing roms.
so the point is still.......you guessed it!!!!.........MORE PEOPLE!!!!!!
.........sorry i had 4 hours of sleep so im stupid right now.

3.0 is for qHD tablets(540 x 960).. while our device is qvga (240 x 320).. it surely can load and everything but.. won't be able to display every single detail, such as the taskbar will be miniature...Apart from that, it's better to continue developing 2.3 Gingerbread, since we already have the ports and the only leftovers will be tweaking the builds we already have to make them useful.
Thank you!

[sent with Xooming Android technology]
... Showing my interest also.
It looks like it's going to take a recompile of libsurfaceflinger.so. I tried using adb to push it to my xoom (just for the fun of it, since I knew I couldn't truly brick it by doing it) and it hung on the dual core tech screen with both of the versions of libsurfaceflinger.so that were provided in the link (they're the files in the .zip updates that are replaced).
It will probably have to wait until the honeycomb source is released before we see this solution supported, unless someone knows how to hex edit the existing honeycomb libsurfaceflinger.so (if it's similar enough to Froyo's or gingerbread's). I looked for the changes that they made to it to support the color calibration and all I could find is that they had made the changes in the "source". (Whether that's C or ASM, I don't know).
Short answer is, unless someone has found another way to do it- this method's probably not going to happen until honeycomb source is released.

Yes, I would also pay/donate for a solution. I also noticed, that the screen hue is dependant on screen brightness level. It would be great if a brightness level dependant compensation could be implemented.
Also a Photographer btw.
Greetings from Germany!
Chris
YES we definitely need to get something like this going, should be a very high priority among XOOM devs, IMO.
I think so, too. I can't believe so few people are complaining about this!
Sounds like you will want to look at this tip of mine found here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099941
It's not exactly what you were looking for but it does enhance the Xoom's screen quality and diaplays a little nicer color. I am gathering a list of user known issues so that we can help solve them and possibly get some new features added. Hope this was helpful.
Yes, me too please. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1v and just got a Xoom WiFi. The colors on the Tab are much richer and gray is accurate. On the Xoom the color is definately on the 'cold' side by being a bit blue and the saturation looks a bit washed out.
I work with Photoshop all day on a calibrated monitor so perhaps I am being a bit picky but the GT 10.1v is much closer to my monitor than the Xoom.

[Q] How close is Paul Burton to Beta?

Paul (or anyone who knows)...
How close are you to a Beta version of your ICS port for the OG Transformer?
I think you have done more than anyone in trying to get this stable before Asus releases their version, and definitely offer a way to get Root on the TF101 ICS.
I really just wanted to start a thread that would allow for Version updates to your port, where people can see a status from the developer himself!
Thanks!
Jeff

Well, I reflect on that often. I think I've developed a lot in my 22 years and am certainly close to feature complete. There have been a few big changes in the past couple years of life that make me a little nervous to apply the beta tag just yet, but it's close.

Oh right, the ROM. Beta is a blurry line, I may not even use it and just keep incrementally improving it until it feels like RC time (and when I say RC I mean a build I actually consider suitable for final release, not the linux "release candidate but we'd never actually consider releasing this" terminology). I think once I get libsensors & libcamera written the hardware support will all be there at least in a basic form and then polishing and fixing smaller things will improve it quickly. I'm hesitant to put a timescale on it - I can't spend the time of a full time job on this and the time I do spend on it is a little sporadic. I'd hope to have sensors working within the next week or so, if that helps. I'm also planning to look at doing OTA updates of some sort now that it's basically usable for common tasks (for some people), to keep people updated easier and perhaps lighten the load on my web host by doing deltas.
I apologise for the terrible joke above...
Without access to the full source code for the drivers, any ROM based off of generic Android will never be Beta or better...
Paul's ICS port is from the standard Google ASOP tree, with lashed in binaries from other sources. What Asus deliver will be built for the specific platform.
There is a HUGE difference.
My experience of Paul's ICS was quite good, the biggest gripe for me, was the REALLY choppy sound playback, which was a deal-breaker for me, and I went back to honeycomb.
im not to sure about the binaries just being ported in i think paul is writting a whole lot of his own stuff, i could be wrong tho. i read a txt where he talked about writting his own drivers for everything cuz asus code is sloppy, he said he would prefer write his own than just plug in binaries.

Umm, with all due respect - you're wrong. Asus aren't necessary. The only things remaining as binaries are the graphics drivers and they're from nvidia.

So Asus have released the sources for ICS Wifi, Bluetooth, Audio, Camera and sensor drivers?
That's news to me, or are using using the honeycomb sources and patching them up with sticking plasters to work with ICS?

No they haven't. What I'm saying is that they don't need to - I can just write them myself. Some of those are open anyway (wifi, bluetooth) and don't come from asus. Little asus addons like setting up the MAC address are easy to reverse engineer and rewrite (and MAC for example is done like that). libaudio I've already written but obviously there's a bug in the buffer management somewhere which causes the skips, and input still needs doing. libsensors won't be too much work, and libcamera shouldn't be huge either.
People outside of asus can write code too

Paul Burton, serving up wanton coding justice to non-believers like it ain't no thang.
Keep up the good work, but I do think you need to assign a cool name to this project.

Just a side note (and I'm not I repeat not complaing about this thread) for those who are asking for updates (nobody asked for updates here) about Paul's releases you should find them when they appear. It does not make it easier for him to complete them if he has to answer a zillion posts about when it will be ready (still not complaining) for release. Think about this...... he could be watching tv or going to the pub or doing stuff that he really needs to do like school (still not complaining) instead of coding.
Again I would like to emphasize that I am not complaining about this.
Oh and Paul how were your exams?

It's true, my life contains things other than writing this ROM. Fortunately for you guys I don't own a TV
Exams went well thanks, all are above 70% (so 1st class) and the one I thought went horribly turns out to be my best grade. Odd

Hey Paul,
Just wanting to keep everyone up to date...
Could you give us a status of what still is not working with your latest release Spark?
Now that you have a name for your rom, and have replaced the original warning with your new one, would you say this release is usable for most things?
Thanks a ton for your work...who needs Asus, we got Paul !!

[Q] Multi-Window feature ??

Is there a multi-window feature MOD for the asus tf700 . It is a feature in Samsung Galagxy Tab 10.1 and newly implemented in the new update of the JB in galaxy S3. I flashed a MOD in my Galaxy s2 and the feature works just fine . So is there any MOD for this feature in asus tf700 ??
I really need it in my tab.

No, there is not, and there probably will not be. No non-Samsung device has ever been able to do it, so if this is mission critical for you, off to Samsung your dollars go.

So, what exactly is it that makes this specific to Samsung devices?

The framework. There's another thread going on about this already. I'm not going into a fork here.
Also, keep in mind what happened to Overskreen. That makes it higly unlikely that anyone is going to invest the immense time and resources needed until Google's stance on the matters softens.
EDIT_BY_INTERJECTION: forgot to say it's in the CleanROM Inheritance thread, as a feature request. And a no-no.
To specifically answer your question, by the way: I guess Samsung feels large and powerful enough to go against Google. Their partnership might help, I dunno.
It's not a technical thing in itself, as we have developers aboard that could pull this off. Hell, we have devs aboard trumping the engineers of the manufacturers themselves, so that says something. It's politics.
So, maybe a link to the other thread would be a more useful and appropriate response?
From your response, it's still not clear what makes this specific to Samsung devices, since all ROMs I've worked on contain a framework, and it clearly isn't specific to TouchWiz.
I realize that Google has quashed attempts at this in the past, specifically Overskreen, but the fact that there are working options out there could be indicative of a change in philosophy, perhaps?
As far as the CleanROM thread, all I saw was sbdags ask for a link and then you (in typical fashion) insert your option in a less than helpful manner. Humble up. If you don't plan on helping, I don't see why you would take the time to be unpleasant...
I was brought up with the understanding that if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all...
EDIT: one long reply with argumentation you wouldn't understand or accept anyway, I think. Thought the better of it. I'll take your post as a shining example of what a constructive post does not look like, stupid motto and such incorporated.
It is a touchwiz thing. Touchwiz is not just a launcher slapped on top it is built into the framework of Samsung firmware, much like sense is built into HTC frameworks. You can't use sense widgets on non sense ROMs and you can't use multi screen on non Touchwiz based ROMs.
I'm not even knowledgeable enough (yet) to concur with you (although I thought the same this morning, I'd dare not put that in writing for sheer terror of saying something so stupid I'd be a "Chinese volunteer" for the first no-return mission to Saturn). Thanks for chiming in, though.

Thanks sbdags - I had pretty good idea of the answer, I was just wondering if Marty did...
A few people had Cornerstone running on the Prime earlier in the year, so I didn't think that dual screen was completely impossible, however the odds are stacked up against a daily driver right now...

I have seen the concepts of Cornerstone. I would love to see that being imlemented in a ROM for or Infinities. I do use StickIT to be able to watch videos while still using the rest of the screen but a full on Multi Tasking feature would be awsome if possible. I know that the 1 GB RAM limit might hinder it a bit but who knows, mabey sbdags could look into it for a future feature in his CleanROM Inheritance ROM's.

So may I conclude I had a better idea of what the answer was than you? I tell you it's a framework-dependent feature, you say it is "clearly NOT Tochwiz-dependent". Next thing, sbdags tells you TouchWiz is built into the framework, and then you say <chuckle> that you knew that all along, but was just wondering if I knew that. At least I had a good laugh: you twist and turn and twist a bit more. You can throw around your morals all you want, but on the technical side of things, it's either this or that, and there's not that much room to verbally wiggle into being correct. I'd say you have been corrected.

Wow... almost don't want to add anything to this flaming thread, but am also a user who is looking for some way to do this stuff on the tf700. Here is a thread that explains most of what the "framework" is and what it does. It is worth mentioning that things in android are already built for multiwindow interfaces but the options for the support are not turned on and some of the functionality is broken. The biggest hangup for this working is the app programmers, who have to make their apps compatible. Since google does not want to police what apps are and are not supporting the feature, they just blanket deny the ability.

actually I am not sure if it has to do with the app programmers because on my note 2, with jedi x9 rom all apps do work on multiwindow. So all apps by default just resize. for me it is a matter of time before it becomes standard in some sort on the base google code since it is already there not just implemented on anything other than touchwiz. we can already see a bit with paranandroid stuff and the resizing between tablet and phone screen sizes. some apps (cant remember well) already do the floating. .. so guys patience or has someone said treat uncle sammy for the score and get one of those galactic phones. the thing I would want programmer to focus on is multiwindow and multi monitors outputs with my hdmi output on my tf700 or the airplay android equivalent around the corner.
