ideos (u8150) development team? I.D.T - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello to all of my ideos (u8150) users and developers. today an amazing developer stopped working on an amazing rom, (which i have on my ideos) and because of this i browsed many roms for this phone and came up with nothing that could compare to it, and inspiration struck and i thought "since work for the rom is discontinued, and there is lack of support for many other roms, why not try to ban together a team to work on an even better rom?
before continuing, let me point out im not a dev. matter of fact i know nothing about writing roms, but i do know that the ideos is a brillant phone that deserves a strong team to back up software for it. thats where the developers that i will try to recruit will come in.
the basic idea of this "project" is simple.
1. one developer will start with a basic version. when he is done with contributions, he will then pass it on to another, then another, and so on.
2. finally, when the team sees the project as coming to a rap, the rom will be distributed through out the team and tested, and as problems come up, the team can collaberate on the issues, and when everything is working properly, RELEASE!!!!!
now i know some readers of this will ask "whats the difference between this and how roms are made now? well its simple, the objective of this is to expand the margin of knowledges from different locations, instead of using near by developers and friends. keep in mind what one area knows, one may not.
anyway, any dev is welcome to join to the project. rules and regs will be added when a variety of members have joined.
also, if any ideas of how the team will collaberate come up, feel free to offer up what you got
PLEASE JOIN!!!!!

come on people give me feed back!!!
a little incentive? okay. if a larger development team works on the roms then, roms could be produced faster, and more efficent. so if any developers are out there reading, then take up the project. with alot of devs, it wont be too time consuming either, thus making it so you could work on your own roms as well.

Greetings :hi:
I'm in ^^
not a .dev or much of anything @ the mo  owned the U8150 for a couple months now (previously modding Motorola)
bricked & brought back to life my IDEOS four times... (so far) ph seems pretty indestructible but very sensitive to any system fiddling.
linux is confusing the heck outa me :chortle: back to the bottom of the learning curve I guess
but I'll help in any way I can...

great, im glad i have another supporter on bored !!!!! the first thing that needs to be done befor anything is rally up more support. we need devs, stat. even if they dont normally do ideos roms, the more support for this we get, the better the chances of this working out. if possible i would like to get the development process started sometime this week so i really need you to get any, higher ups or (most importantly) developers, to get on bored.
and for any ideos user reading this, its for all of our benifits so help out too!!!!

also, i would like to point out, that the process i listed to begin with dosnt have to be how it works. i want the devs to decide how the collaberation works.
just think of all the things that yall want out of the ideos. if this happens, there will be a higher chance of these things happening.
1. 3D
2. can i hear a 2.3?
3. cyanogen mod
4. over clocking that actually works!!!!
5. maybe instead of knock offs of 2.2 or 2.2 with a different launcher and them, we could actually see REAL homebrew roms that are 100% user created.
now you cant tell me that dosnt sound good right?

I want overclocking that works

well there you go!!!! as soon as we can get some developers on bored with "working together" then we might can achieve that and many other goals.

I am in,
My idea is not to have many features and concentrating on developing 2.3 first and then slowly on 3.0.

alright!!!!!! but let me go ahead and tell you, 3.0 would blow up an ideos . it wont even load a honeycomb theme much less the system. (turns ideos into a pile of ask and smoke.) 2.3 would be the better focus in my opinion. but anyway back to the thanks yous and campaigning, thanks for joining and if possible get every single person (even if the only electronic they know how to use is vcr) that is at least somewhat capable of programing roms.
so the point is still.......you guessed it!!!!.........MORE PEOPLE!!!!!!
.........sorry i had 4 hours of sleep so im stupid right now.

3.0 is for qHD tablets(540 x 960).. while our device is qvga (240 x 320).. it surely can load and everything but.. won't be able to display every single detail, such as the taskbar will be miniature...Apart from that, it's better to continue developing 2.3 Gingerbread, since we already have the ports and the only leftovers will be tweaking the builds we already have to make them useful.
Thank you!
Count me in.

Well theres a partially working overclock thats in private beta testing but I will push it to public soon.
As for the project itself - great idea. I think focusing on gingerbread is the way to go along with a kernel overclock with gingerbread

Heres a link to the Oced kernel http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2370q8r5tx4fish. Just chmod the file in Linux and Mac and for all Oses just double click the appropriate file to flash the new boot image. You will need to be in bootloader mode when you do this.

you see? careing and sharing CAN be fun joking aside i love the smell of development in the morning. this is a great start. so its agreed 2.3 is the best approach? well then maury 1234 seems to have a lot done on it so i say, (if its allright with her) build of hers. its deffinatly up for consideration so maury what you say?

oh and btw maury, sadly i cant install the v3 to see how its working because im stuck with an outdated version of clockwork -_- so do you have any testers?

[ROM][32B] tek's-ROM v0.0.1 pre-ALPHA, [Donut], "What's wrong with this picture?"
Hi, all,
Here is a project I have been working on for a couple days I would like to share with you. This is a pure, unmodified Android 1.6 Donut ROM.
Remember, this is a PRE-ALPHA, so don't expect stability, or anything extraordinary. Given that I am a pretty big n00b when it comes to developing (thus the broken market and sync in a 1.6 ROM ), and any help in getting these apps working is greatly appreciated.DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING HAPPENING TO YOUR PHONE, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!.
UPDATED: Okay, this thing is now usable. Ive combined AOSP code and The HTC ADP1 ROM so everything on the doesn't work list now works. The only things that dont work are the Apps2SD and Su (working on this as we speak). This ROM is also 100% stock.
Okay, so here are the lists:
What works:
Camera
Wifi
Gps
Keyboard
Phone
SMS
Essentially everything that isn't on the doesn't work list.
What doesn't work (everything on this list will be fixed in the future)
Su
Apps2SD
Also thanks to cyanogen for some of the system apps that have been pulled from his rom .
Download link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=87E09WTH
Cheers!
Wondering why all these things dont work on a donut rom lol?
Anyways good work
mainly causeI'm actually trying to learn how to build a donut rom lol, hopefully without making yself look like a total idiot.
this is pretty much useless

you're not being helpful by saying that, this kid (i'm assuming, could be wrong) just wants to learn how to build ROMs and is asking for help.
Is this rom built straight off of AOSP or is it another rom and you put own touches? Because it will help alot more so i can see if i can fix some of the broken apps for you
EDIT: It helps alot more to theme after you fix everything... Just my opinion

It is built straight off AOSP, with the goal of being really fast, as fast as any other really good donut rom. But none of the other google apps work out of the box on AOSP, as I probably should have known. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out on this.
I agree, I should have themed it after, but I love the theme,so I just stuck it in there.
Tekgek
Why should I want to flash this? Or rather, why should I want to flash this once it's more developed? What is this going to have that Cyanogen or Super D or CSDI doesn't?
My point is, it'd be a good idea to maybe put something out there that you're planning on implementing into this that no one else is doing, or that you can do better. We have several stable, incredibly fast Donut roms out there right now, so what should set this apart from the rest of the crowd?
Just my two cents. I'd love to see this turn into something spectacular.

So would I. To one poster on this thread, I am just a person with computer skills who just got interested in Android two days ago. However, I do have plans for this rom, something that may or may not be possible. Any developer who is interested in the concept please pm me, and tell me if I am dreaming things up that are impossible or not.
EDIT: Okay, I guess its not that top secret, post ideas here too, if you like. My idea is to create a donut rom with the speed and stability of Android 1.6 on the G1, but with the ability to run 2.1 3d apps natively. Essentially, take what cyanogen has done with his ROMs to a whole new level. Impossible? Probably. Opinions, people who actually have experience with Android?
"whats wrong with this picture?"
The following
What doesn't work (everything on this list will be fixed in the future)
Android Market
Google Sync
Initial Setup
Google Apps in general
Apps2SD

From the department of stabbing in the dark, it sounds like your Google apps aren't signed with the right keys. I believe they need to be signed with the same keys as the rest of the /system/app apps you build off the source. Swim through Cyanogen's Twitter posts as I believe he's answered this there before (or just try resigning them and see if it works.)
To the Author:
Good job on your first build. Keep up the hard work. It sounds to me like you might not have added the GApps after you compiled it from kernel, but I could be wrong as I haven't flashed it. But don't lose hope, you'll get it.
To The Other Users:
I'm a bit disappointed in some of the replies I've been reading. It seems like a lot of you only really care about how this rom effects you, rather than how it effects the author in general. You don't build giant empire over night, but it does show that he put a lot of effort into the build. If you don't like it, don't use it, but don't make remarks that bring the developer down.

I wish we had that many devs on our phone
Oh well, if we had more on cm7, it will help us collect more info on our phone so we can try a port to ics or aosp, or whatever...
Think of cm7 as a 'information collector' we can use to do new projects in the future.
I'd love to hop on this project, but I can't handle that much multitasking. I think we'd get further with more people on cm7, and then later do an ics port.

I think you are right about cm7. As much as I would like to continue with this project, I think we need cm7 first...lol
I have recompiled this thing 22 times now and still cannot get it to work. The biggest accomplishment I have made was getting it to boot and the setup wizard to display. But have not gotten past that.
I don't know much about kernels, but the way you and team acid have laid things out for us, as well as having a little bit of time since I am on vacation now, I think I am giong to take a shot at it. But I still think there is A LOT more reading/learning I need to do first...lol

Just to update everyone. I managed to get fix a couple of things. When I hit the menu button while in setup wizard, I can get into the wireless menu. I was also able to navigate thru the setup wizard, but had no keyboard input my email/password. I found I was missing a key file for the keyboard and will fix it later. However, after navigating thru the setup wizard, the homescreen/lockscreen doesn't show. It's coming together, slowly but surely...
Keep up the great work Thomas!
I made some good progress, I think anyways...lol
I installed swype and was able to get past the setup wizard properly.
I got the lockscreen to appear with a temp fix.
Still no homescreen, but I know where the problems lie and will be working on them tomorrow...

[DEV][TEAM WX435] has arrived!

To all the XDA Motorola Triumph fans we have arrived. We have packed our bags from Android Forums and this will be our new stomping ground. We took most of the dev's and formed a collaborative team
https://github.com/WX435
We will be working on making the Motorola Triumph a much better phone and all working together to fix many issues. Right now our main goal is working on rewriting our device files for CM7 and then moving those files into CM9 and AOKP. If we continue to have success we may also start working on AOSP flavors like Gingerbread and ICS as well. Stay tuned for some radical changes and fixes!
Now we just need to talk to B_randon and Austrie

Hi, G60, can you comment on this latest development here: http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...d-sharp-2-2-2-triumph-mms-now-working-5.html?
It seems that using this remodeled Sharp ROM, everything in HW (including AGPS) can be made to work. Is that something which can be leveraged for general development? If so, perhaps in the spirit of team building, everyone can pull together to get one ROM out to use as a basis. Sorry, I'm a dev IRL, but don't know much about how these ROMs are built (from source? provided binaries?). I can help if we're shorthanded doing such a thing.
Thanks.

agent,
Right now our focus is CM7. I am currently reworking the device files for the phone, trying to make everything perfect. I have already downloaded the sharp ROM and will dive into it more to pull out the AGPS to see if I can make it work in CM7. Right now my focus has been on the video and it's getting much better but still needs some tweaks. b_randon is working on the kernel, we are hoping to upgrade that as well. Once I have the device files done will then be reworking them into CM9 & AOKP along with kernel. It's a slow process as we have completely started from scratch. Just know we are working it :good:
Ok, thanks. I just tried out the Sharp ROM, and another thing its seems to get right is deep sleep while wifi is on. I'm not sure if it's doing it correctly or just turning it on when screen is unlocked (not sure what's default on android), but I had auto-sync on. I've never had wifi deep sleep work before (Juicedefender has a bug here). That's kind of a big deal since we've previously had to trade off battery life for speed. Wifi-on is also instant whereas it takes a while in Juicedefender.

I'm going to need someone to test it though since I don't have that device. Not to mention that I don't know if they're even somewhat compatible with each other.

This was meant as a compliment. Good luck w/ this and I hope you can build it with debug information enabled, so we can try understand what's wrong when a crash happens.

Lol, I did the whole thread at like 3 in the morning xD, but I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the help and I'm hoping that we can somehow figure out how to get it fully booting

Haha thanks, the G1 deserves it, it's the original Android . But it's definitely not just me, all the guys at @ United, ezterry, and many more, have all been doing great contributions

Haha thanks . Sure, I could try to get it to build, just don't be upset if it doesn't boot all the way like the current state of this rom

Wow, perfect! I'm looking for an updated manifest to work with, do you happen to have yours posted anywhere (GitHub, Gitorious, etc.), or do you not build from source?
Btw, if anyone is bored and has nothing to do, add me on Battle.net and hit me up with some Starcraft II
Username: Infinimint

sorry i only port, never from source
I have actually been wanting to port B2G to the g1 for a while now (I've been building the source for the emulator since it was very early on at andreasgal's github).
I'm building it now and will try to see why it's not booting, if I have a little extra free time, after I finish my next LMCFroyo release.
There's really no reason to try polishing anything before now and the actual release; there will probably be many large changes over the course of the year. However, there's no reason to not toy around with this right now in order to see what changes will need to be made in the gecko/gaia source.

Thanks, I got adreasgal's repo yesterday and have been messing with it a little bit, how does it differ from mozilla's official repo?
Ok, I'm syncing for the HTC Hero right now.
EDIT: Downloading the latest CM7 nightly for vendor files...

Quick question on Reboot issue with kernels

Just want to know if this is being worked on or has the problem been located and in the process of being hammered out.
For most it is fixed. Try one. I used art one

The art one seemed hard to install. What others work that can be flashed in twrp

http://arter97.com/browse/exynos7420/kernel/4.3/n920tw8/ Link to the 4.3 kernel. Use the first one for TWRP and flash as normal.
Thanks. It's flashed now I guess I'll make a call and wait and see

I have been using the Arter kernel since Monday and haven't had any reboots, calls work fine and no audio issues.
I have only used arter97's kernel and have never had a reboot issue. Everything runs perfect with his kernel. It is fine to use with TWRP even though he recommends Philz.
Basically it is the only option right now if you want a working kernel.
works perfect!!! awesome!!! I don't know why other kernel makers would even keep a non working one up if they know there is one that works 0_o

@paniro187,
That's like saying if something is not broke, it doesn't need to be fixed... that leads to stagnant development, a lack of choice, and no innovation. By that line of thinking, we only need one kernel, because only one doesn't cause reboots...
Why are we not still driving the model t car? It wasn't broke and it worked well... but new ideas evolved and look what we drive today... continual innovation is what got us there. Not everything that was created worked 100 percent initially... but the development process got us to where we are today. It's also what gives us so many choices in every product we buy.
Developers work on the bleeding edge of technology. Many times, in order to innovate, they have to work through issues that arise while developing. So if a few reboots a day happen in the process, as rooted users, we need to suck it up and help test for these developers and give them useable feedback.
If users are unable or unwilling to test new builds for developers, and subsequently deal with the perils of bleeding edge technology - then they should probably stay away from the xda forums and Rooted android.
It is incredibly unproductive to infer that a developer should walk away from developing and testing their kernel just because not everything works well on the first attempt. It may work fine on their device, but when other users add their setup tweaks and such, it may not work on their devices... that's part of the development process, learning what works and what causes issues, and it takes many people to give feedback and learn through the process.
Please don't say things to discourage developers from working on our device... I'm not a developer, but I understand the amount of hard work, knowledge, creativity, and perseverance a developer has to have in order to make new things work for us.
Rather than discourage them, why not pitch in and help them test for bugs, give positive feedback, and help be a part of the solution? That's what the Rooted android community is all about.
If a user is not willing to do that, they should stick with a stock device.
Personally, I'd like to Thank all of our developers for doing what they do... even if I don't use their specific developments in the long run, I still respect and appreciate their efforts. I try to test and give feedback whenever possible when they put something new out (which is difficult to keep up with because how much is being pumped out right now)
@Manh_IT, @TEKHD @jthrasher47 @jovy23 @arter97 @UpInTheAir, @bash_array, @bigbiff, @foreverloco @dr.ketan
You all are rock stars... thank you for your innovation, effort, persistence, willingness, and creativity.

Have you had any issues with arter? On both my Note 5s it has a hard time waking up sometimes. I'm still using it though cuz it's the only one that doesn't have random reboots.

@DanDroid
Agreed, not really much to add :good:
I'm not speaking for them... I'm speaking for myself.
I'd like to see the developers stick around and continue to work on this device. If they don't feel respected or appreciated, they will likely move on.
You may want to Google e.q. and work on that a bit... it will help you go farther in life.
Again, thanks to our team of developers.
I will not be back to continue the conversation.
Good luck to you.
