Screen hue/color calibration? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know if there is an app to tweak/calibrate the screen color?
TIA
-Wi-Fi Xoom-

I have seen this question asked several times in other forums but nobody seems to have an answer. Sorry about that.

I had one for my EVO about 4 or 5 months ago and it worked great but I don't remember what it was called...highly doubtful it would even work on the xoom but ya never know...

Ya I figured it would but +1 for trying it out anyways! I hope one of the many talented devs here at xda can get a hold of it and make it an stand alone app!

I'm sorry that I didn't provide the link. Maybe I'll remember tomorrow!
[sent with Xooming Android technology]

... Showing my interest also.

It looks like it's going to take a recompile of libsurfaceflinger.so. I tried using adb to push it to my xoom (just for the fun of it, since I knew I couldn't truly brick it by doing it) and it hung on the dual core tech screen with both of the versions of libsurfaceflinger.so that were provided in the link (they're the files in the .zip updates that are replaced).
It will probably have to wait until the honeycomb source is released before we see this solution supported, unless someone knows how to hex edit the existing honeycomb libsurfaceflinger.so (if it's similar enough to Froyo's or gingerbread's). I looked for the changes that they made to it to support the color calibration and all I could find is that they had made the changes in the "source". (Whether that's C or ASM, I don't know).
Short answer is, unless someone has found another way to do it- this method's probably not going to happen until honeycomb source is released.

Dang! Good work man! Even though it was a no-go its still good to see someone trying things out
Azrael X 4.0

I know its been a while, but...
I'd be interested in something like this too, if it is made to work on the Xoom. I bought my Xoom partially to show my photography portfolio, so I would pay for an app to let me fine tune the color.
Doug

Yes, I would also pay/donate for a solution. I also noticed, that the screen hue is dependant on screen brightness level. It would be great if a brightness level dependant compensation could be implemented.
Also a Photographer btw.
Greetings from Germany!
Chris

YES we definitely need to get something like this going, should be a very high priority among XOOM devs, IMO.

I think so, too. I can't believe so few people are complaining about this!

Sounds like you will want to look at this tip of mine found here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099941
It's not exactly what you were looking for but it does enhance the Xoom's screen quality and diaplays a little nicer color. I am gathering a list of user known issues so that we can help solve them and possibly get some new features added. Hope this was helpful.

Yes, me too please. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1v and just got a Xoom WiFi. The colors on the Tab are much richer and gray is accurate. On the Xoom the color is definately on the 'cold' side by being a bit blue and the saturation looks a bit washed out.
I work with Photoshop all day on a calibrated monitor so perhaps I am being a bit picky but the GT 10.1v is much closer to my monitor than the Xoom.

It seems 2.0 is much closer than was initially thought. Wonder if this update is coming to magics and g1s or if it's only coming on new, higher res screen phones.

It looks great but from what is on display it doesnt look too heavy, like sense.
It's funny how things get leaked from HTC all the time and so early in progress

One of the pictures actually says "model: droid" so aparently you are right...
Looks like they finally hired some REAL designers to replace the freaking ugly icons android uses now.
Awesome
I wonder how long we will have to wait
ah this looks so sweet, im bored of 1.6 and there really isnt a hero rom that runs smooth enough on a voda magic. this looks much better, lets hope it get released for porting and is smooth!!
Can't wait for 2.0, I like what I see, the new icons are so much better. And finally multi-select in the email app! Hope there's a leak soon
How do we which of these are these are features of 2.0 which are features of the moto droid rom? The artwork, icons and lockscreen etc, for example, I bet they are not standard features of android 2.0.
Still looks pretty cool though! Someone needs to do a nandroid of it and post it here!!

It seems that Droid is a Google Experience phone and therefore Motorola could not have messed with the ROM.
I like some of the "squareness", it seems cleaner and less "bubbly". As mentioned by others, I'm concerned that some of the things I like are actually Motorola-specific, although it's mostly all visual stuff so I can see themes being able to mimic this anyhow if necessary. I bet the icons and the lock screen are Motorola's.
I'm a little ambivolent about the "driver mode" stuff. I don't know that drivers should be doing anything with their phones AT ALL while they are at the wheel. I think it would have been better to eschew that custom screen and just have optional use of voice commands throughout the interface. Then again, it's still legal to use phones while driving in many countries, so I suppose this was necessary to stay ahead of the competition.
that looks sweet. can't wait.
i just hope i see official support for bluetooth profiles like obex.
and also more video support for avi, mkv etc.

Quick live wallpapers+sticking?

First off am I the only one that wishes the original opengl would stick? Performance was alot better for that one (especially for the nexus wallpaper). Is getting the performance of the original live wallpaper we had and the sticking of the new patch possible? Right now that is the only problem stopping my phone from being the sex.
EDIT: Problem seems to happen when another widget is updated. Its not perfectly smooth, but not bad, but when a widget updates it really slows down the wallpaper to a noticeable halt. I doubt im the first to notice this, but for anyone else that really wants nexus wallpaper, having less widgets on your main page seems to help.
I moved the news+weather widget you see below to another page and it seems to jitter less.
I agree. Losing the performance from the new OpenGL isn't worth having LWP's. They might have a fix for this when Toast's Awesome Sauce ROM is complete.

Yeah I disagree with "there is no point in having them if it is slower".......the patch works pretty dam well with most wallpapers its just the peski nexus being alittle to slow to be usable for me. MagnusRagnarok my OP was not an attack on you at all. I am extremely thankful for what you have done, and hope you have not taken my post that way. I am just trying to see if more people feel the same way as me. For me getting the nexus one wallpaper running alittle bit better would get me closer to completing my phone.
Ill bump since I edited my first post. Hopefully someone finds it helpful.

Hey guys, I know a lot of us have been dying to get the nexus wallpaper working without having to do the opengl fix to make wallpapers stick, seeing as it made the wallpaper ran really choppy. I found a way to get it to stick, run smooth, and not have to change the opengl. I used the update zip posted by emerica6541 and it stuck right on and have ran smooth ever since. Granted he did modify the wallpaper so the lights are smaller, but I think it looks better that way on our heroes due to the smaller screen. It has survived multiple reboots, and over 30 mins of sleep time. I am running darch's legend rom though, so I'm not sure if this will work for damage's or flipz's roms, but its worth a shot.

Just a note though, when you first set the wallpaper, your phone will freeze for a min, then it'll take you to the bootscreen. Once it reloads, you should be good to go.

Since Moto wanted to keep the XOOM as legendary as possible (The UBER Official First Tab with a Honeycomb ROM) I say we should see a system dump/source dump coming juuuuuuust a little bit after that.

Has anyone taken the system images from the SDK and tried to cwm them onto the gtab?
I'll be trying this today..
The reason why I'm not too worried is,
1. CWM Backups are your friend!
2. Honeycomb was designed for the Tegra2 proc right? Xoom = T2 proc.. so most of the drivers should work, hopefully. (except the sd card, camera, etc..)
3. I didn't pay for my Gtab..

Go to notioninkhacks.com they are close to having a rom they need two files. There isa post on front page read it andcontact them.
Forget the Xoom port, I want the Honeycomb AOSP. CM usually gets them earlier than anyone so I'm assuming a CM Honeycomb base will come out two weeks after the Xoom gets released. After the Honeycomb base, then Roebeet, Rothic, Gojimi, and (fingers crossed) Bekit can start cooking!
CM doesn't get access to AOSP earlier than anyone else. Android Open Source Project is what AOSP means and is available whenever Google releases the source to open source and pushes it to androids github repository.
Once the " Honeycomb" branch is pushed we can start seeing real progress...though proper drivers also need to be released from nvidia.
I suspect a Xoom port will be available before an AOSP built rom is.

The images from the sdk are built for the emulator and not the tegra 2 CPU...that is a big reason why it hasn't been "ported" already like it was for the nook color.

[Q] How close is Paul Burton to Beta?

Paul (or anyone who knows)...
How close are you to a Beta version of your ICS port for the OG Transformer?
I think you have done more than anyone in trying to get this stable before Asus releases their version, and definitely offer a way to get Root on the TF101 ICS.
I really just wanted to start a thread that would allow for Version updates to your port, where people can see a status from the developer himself!
Thanks!

Oh right, the ROM. Beta is a blurry line, I may not even use it and just keep incrementally improving it until it feels like RC time (and when I say RC I mean a build I actually consider suitable for final release, not the linux "release candidate but we'd never actually consider releasing this" terminology). I think once I get libsensors & libcamera written the hardware support will all be there at least in a basic form and then polishing and fixing smaller things will improve it quickly. I'm hesitant to put a timescale on it - I can't spend the time of a full time job on this and the time I do spend on it is a little sporadic. I'd hope to have sensors working within the next week or so, if that helps. I'm also planning to look at doing OTA updates of some sort now that it's basically usable for common tasks (for some people), to keep people updated easier and perhaps lighten the load on my web host by doing deltas.
I apologise for the terrible joke above...
Without access to the full source code for the drivers, any ROM based off of generic Android will never be Beta or better...
Paul's ICS port is from the standard Google ASOP tree, with lashed in binaries from other sources. What Asus deliver will be built for the specific platform.
There is a HUGE difference.
My experience of Paul's ICS was quite good, the biggest gripe for me, was the REALLY choppy sound playback, which was a deal-breaker for me, and I went back to honeycomb.
im not to sure about the binaries just being ported in i think paul is writting a whole lot of his own stuff, i could be wrong tho. i read a txt where he talked about writting his own drivers for everything cuz asus code is sloppy, he said he would prefer write his own than just plug in binaries.

Umm, with all due respect - you're wrong. Asus aren't necessary. The only things remaining as binaries are the graphics drivers and they're from nvidia.

So Asus have released the sources for ICS Wifi, Bluetooth, Audio, Camera and sensor drivers?
That's news to me, or are using using the honeycomb sources and patching them up with sticking plasters to work with ICS?

No they haven't. What I'm saying is that they don't need to - I can just write them myself. Some of those are open anyway (wifi, bluetooth) and don't come from asus. Little asus addons like setting up the MAC address are easy to reverse engineer and rewrite (and MAC for example is done like that). libaudio I've already written but obviously there's a bug in the buffer management somewhere which causes the skips, and input still needs doing. libsensors won't be too much work, and libcamera shouldn't be huge either.
People outside of asus can write code too

Well, I reflect on that often. I think I've developed a lot in my 22 years and am certainly close to feature complete. There have been a few big changes in the past couple years of life that make me a little nervous to apply the beta tag just yet, but it's close.

Awesome! !!!
You sir need a TARDIS. That was Brilliant.

Just a side note (and I'm not I repeat not complaing about this thread) for those who are asking for updates (nobody asked for updates here) about Paul's releases you should find them when they appear. It does not make it easier for him to complete them if he has to answer a zillion posts about when it will be ready (still not complaining) for release. Think about this...... he could be watching tv or going to the pub or doing stuff that he really needs to do like school (still not complaining) instead of coding.
Again I would like to emphasize that I am not complaining about this.
Oh and Paul how were your exams?

It's true, my life contains things other than writing this ROM. Fortunately for you guys I don't own a TV
Exams went well thanks, all are above 70% (so 1st class) and the one I thought went horribly turns out to be my best grade. Odd
What kind of student are you, Paul?

Hey Paul,
Just wanting to keep everyone up to date...
Could you give us a status of what still is not working with your latest release Spark?
Now that you have a name for your rom, and have replaced the original warning with your new one, would you say this release is usable for most things?
Thanks a ton for your work...who needs Asus, we got Paul !!

[APP] Awesome Note 2.1.2 patched w/ working Evernote sync

So, I had patched the previous version of aNote but now this new version is out, offering sync etc. I was asked if I could also patch this one.
So, here it is. Note that this version is actually less friendly towards stock/CM ROMs as it makes a bunch of calls to proprietary APIs and I had to work around that. Furthermore, depending on your screen resolution you will find that not only does it look weird on smaller screens, it also gets somewhat confused by extra high res
I may try to patch these behaviors as well if deemed insufferable.
Anyway, this version is smali-patched, signed and zipaligned.
BTW, the apk is 35MB. Apparently someone has never heard of proguard.

Interesting..
Thanks so much for patching this! Downloading now!

A patch to handle higher resolution devices, such as Nexus 10, would sure be nice.

I had a closer look at the app's assets and, frankly, it's pretty scary. It looks like they only cared about one resolution and everything is hardcoded using absolute coordinates and sizes.
you are awesome ! , its works
Really appreciate the efforts for making it work!
Wrong reply, please ignore.
Thanks for the patch. Is it possible to make the font or app display bigger on nexus 5?
So maybe it is more Possible, that the Developers from that App will someday do an Version for all Divices and put it in Play Store.
@cyansmoker Do you happen to know how to fix the layout and DPI of this app for the galaxy S4? It looks really weird now and everything is only taking up 3/4 of the screen. Lots of people on S4 and Note 3 have the same issue but I haven't found any solutions on XDA yet. Would really appreciate it if you could look into this.
doesn't even install on my Lenovo a660 4.0.4. says wrong syntaxes.
Hi, thnaks for your work, i'm also looking for a layout fixed version because it's not fitting welll on note3 screen and xposed app settings doesn't have an eefect on this app. Thanks for looking at this.

Cyansmoker, can you help? Note3
The app works as intended on LG Optimus G Pro. Fills the screen just fine but everything's too small to actually click comfortably.
It works on HTC One
First of all Thanks for the app. I agree with others this is the most usefull note taking app. I used to use it regulary on iPhone.
Since i have moved to android, I could not find any great alternatives for note.
So I am glad to find this forum with their helpful members.
Well, I can confirm that this version it works perfectly & syncing as well on my HTC One.:good:
:highfive: Thanks Lads, i am very happy with it even if the graphic is small, love i!
Just want to say a big thank you for making this work. This was the only app I couldn't find a replacement for when I switched to android. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3, and the only problem I've noticed so far is that the right edge of the screen is cut off in portrait mode - the right arrow to navigate to the next note is not visible. Doesn't seem to cause any other trouble though. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for this! I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing issues when trying to add location.
I can add my current location fine, but when I want to search for an address, I get an error every time!
"Address information could not be imported due to a network error or error in the Google map server. Please try again later."
Wondering if there are any fixes for this, or is it just me?
Thanks again!
