[Q] Locked HTC Toush diamond2 - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys
I have installed the free antitheft mobile software of F secure at my windows mobile phone {HTC Touch Diamond2] and, of course, I have chosen the number key for entering the software and my mobile and the secret code [letters and numbers] to lock it from distance.
Since then, many times when I was restarting my phone I didn’t had any problem to unlock the software using the number code, and then, with the same number code, to unlock my phone so that I can use it.
Unfortunately, yesterday after that I installed another software [swype] and I had to restart my phone, when I entered the same number code I received the answer that the code was incorrect. I tried many times without result –some time I got the message to use my secret code [letters and numbers] which lock remotely my phone but this is not possible because to enter the F secure software I can use only numbers. Finally now, any effort to enter the number code is without result and I don’t get even the message that my code is not the correct one.
I was informed that the only solution is to hard reset my phone-solution that I would like to avoid for not losing my sms, contacts, softwares installed etc. So I would be very grateful if you could help me
Thanx in advance

Restarting a PPc without the pin code??

Is anyone aware of an application that can softreset a PPC phone and restart it without having to go thru the process of keying in your pin code each time??
In the same way that a cash point card could be used without a PIN code to withdraw cash?
Correct me if I am wrong, I think you may be looking at a hard reset.
I'm not sure if this is what your asking but it is possible to disable asking for a pin code. But when your phone gets lost or stolen everybody will be able to use your sim...
Anyway:
Settings -> Phone
Uncheck "Require PIN when phone is used"
What I am talking about is an app like SpriteBackup which can after backing up your device restart it and aquire a GSM signal without asking for the pin code.
actually, you would need a software that is able to do soft reset and key in the pin code. none so far, but there are software thaty can key in the pin code.. like phonealarm.
Thanks ,will check it out.
If you keep the phone in flight mode then it will not ask for the PIN when restarting.

[Q] Theft Aware vs Cerberus

Hi guys.
Try to decide which to get between these two. It looks quite similar in what they do? Which one would you prefer? Don't matter the cost..they're just worth paying for. Which is better for non rooted phone?
anyone at all?
Never heard of the 2nd one but I am looking for a replacement for wavesecure
The only difference i can see between cerberus and TA is that cerberus can take photo. Apart from that, anything else guys?
Theft Aware saved my phone, Cerberus... hmmphh
[UPDATE] Tested "in the field"
Yesterday night I came to a friend's party and couldn't find my phone, so first thing I tried to dial it and see where I forgot it- went to check the car, but the phone wasn't there. The strange thing was that I was directed immediately to the voicemail, as if my phone was powered off..
Then I noticed my wife's phone has got an sms from Theft Aware, that the sim was replaced with a new number (including the new number). I called the new number, and got no answer but was able (via sms command) to get the phone's location, then I sent an sms to the new owner that I'd like to have the phone back and a number where I can be reached, then locked the phone.
At the same time I tried to operate similar thing with cerberus via their android client which is easy to operate. Nothing happened.
I tried again to call the new owner- he answered- told him I've got his phone number, location and photo (this was a bluff because cerberus did not work). The new owner was so surprised that he immediately offered to bring it back, which he did. I got my phone back after barely 30 minutes.
When the phone was back I checked my mailbox, and noticed that I got a mail from cerberus:
IP address: 109.64.199.59
An unauthorized SIM card has been inserted into your device.
Number: null
Network
Operator: 42502 ()
Subscriber ID: null
SIM card
Operator: ()
Serial: null
This is an automated message, please do not reply.
Nothing really useful...
Cerberus app did take a photograph, though, but it showed my own face back at home- the photo was taken only AFTER I have entered my unlock pattern, so it was no real use.
So, when really needed Theft Aware vs. cerberus: 1-0.
Nowadays Theft Aware is free, bundled with Avast! antivirus and some other bla bla (which can be manually uninstalled), so I just can't see no reason whatsoever why not install this useful program. Within minutes, all Android phone owners in the party started looking for Avast's TA and iphoners started looking for something similar for their own kind
You can probably disregard all the BS I wrote before (below), but whatever...
[OLD][BS]
TA is only sms-based. Perhaps they are working on some web-interface but not sure where it stands (beta stage?).
With Cerberus it is possible to send commands from their website and from a small applet/client (e.g. you can install it in a friend's phone) that is very useful if you don't have a computer nearby. Cerberus can also trigger the cameras, record audio, splash a message+speech in full screen ("Hey, thief! Bring it back") etc. Cool, perhaps also useful.
TA can be installed as system app, and with a name of your choosing to add further "security".
Cerberus installs as user app, but it is possible to download from their website a zip file that can be flashed as system app (or installed via ROM Manager) but not sure how many users are aware of this option. Anyway, it will still show as "cerberus" in lots of places, so it cannot be considered as stealthy as TA.
Both have many disadvantages- if the thief has access to the phone (some people don't use any pin/pattern lock, eh???) then he can deactivate TA or Cerberus from the list of device administrators and in a few seconds rendering both of them useless.
Both won't survive the flashing of a new rom, but I doubt that most "casual thieves" will go away to flash a rom in a stolen phone.
Some other sms applications using notification may override TA. That's what happens with GO SMS, for example- GO SMS will display the sms with code and everything, and TA won't work at all. There are workarounds, but it is an annoyance.
Major disadvantage of TA is the same code used to enter the application is also the one used in SMS commands! The dev is well aware of this issue but thinks it is too much for a user to remember two different codes (one for entering app, second to confirm sms commands). Thus, a thief can just get the sim out of your stolen and put it in any other phone. Then, when you start sending sms with commands to your stolen phone, you'll be actually providing the thief with your unlocking code... Next he turns on the stolen phone (with whatever sim- original or one of his choice), unlock it with the code you've just sent him by sms.. It's THAT easy. I am not sure how cerberus will act, in a similar case.

Network Unlock Unsuccessful on Atrix 2

I believe the previous owner of my new atrix 2 unsuccessfully tried to unlock the phone 10 times and now it will not take the correct subsidy code which I purchased. I am not overly familiar with android and have read some things on xda about other phone having this problem solved but nothing about the atrix 2 itself. Is there a software of hardware solution to this problem?
Don't know how it is on A2 but for Blackberry, after trying 10 times of wrong code phone wil be locked forever. You need to unlock it by hardware solution.
Is it saying "Subsidy locked" with no option to enter the code? If yes, the phone is hard locked and you will NEVER be allowed to enter a code again. You will need to find someone that has a hardware unlocking solution using special software.
I realize that it is hard locked however I am unable to find a hardware solution. Does anyone know of any specific location or hardware that can accomplish this?

Click to collapse
There are hardware solutions like this and this that have worked on phones in the past. It's anyone's guess as to whether these would fit and work on our phone.
Thats a bummer cellunlocker.net said
WARNING : If one of theses messages appear :
- "Contact Service Provider"
- "Tampert Alter"
- "Wait before enter special Code"
- "Contact Service'
It's because you or somebody allready enter too many wrong codes, you just have to let phone ON on theses errors messages and after 40 min to 2 hours maximum the message "Enter Code Special" will appear again !
Not sure if this helps but could not hurt.....
OK,
A time back i had the same problem with my Samsung captivate. I flashed a new room and the counter reset itself. You could try that and see whether that works.

Dont Know Phone Pin? Help to reset phone?

Hi, a family member passed away a few months ago and I was given her phone by her sister to use if I wanted. She had the phone and charger, and thats it. I stay in the UK and the phone I use is on O2. The phone she had was the Experian L but she had her phone through a contract with virgin media.
When I initally put my sim card in and turned the phone on it said 'virgin media, this phone has been reported lost/stolen'. In order to unclock it from this security lock I needed her insurance company(through virgin) to provide me with a 4 digit pin to unlock the phone. This was very hard to get as the insurance people are different from virgin media, but after a while they agreed to give me the code if I sent a copy of her death certificate in. I did this and got the code thankfully. I was told that I wouldnt be able to use my o2 simc ard in the phone because the handset was locked on Virgin. I was told if I paid £15 I would receive the unlocking code through the post in a week or so.
I did this and got a letter through the door with the instruction on for to unlock the handset. Basically its a 16digit number that I enter and the phone become unlocked. However, after all this Ive just realised I think there is a phone lock on the phone i.e. a pin she must have set herself? I think this because when I power the phone up without a sim, all I can see is the date/time, with her name underneath, and also underneath that is a keypad. When you press any button on the keypad and hit enter it says wrong pin? That happens without a sim card so I presume it is a phone pin lock she had on her phone is that correct? If so, is there any way around this? Ideally I would like to keep whatever pictures etc are on the phone however I realise that might not be possible. Ive tried to download the sony suite however it wont allow me to use the suite because it tells me on the computer I must enter the pin on the phone to continue! bit of a nightmare to be honest.
Any help/suggestions with what I can do? Many thanks
I cant unlock through Pc Companion because Pc Companion needs the screen to be unlocked before it connects the device, and I cant do that.
factory reset
Hello, do a factory reset to the Phone, but you will loose all the information on it

LG G3 Can't Access Hidden Service Menu With MMI Code

Hello all, I have run into some unfortunate trouble that I'm sure many of you have heard about before. I shall start with the short and sweet for those who know about this, and then move onto a detailed description of the events and steps I've taken. Put simply, for those in the know: My phone always runs into the "Connection problem or invalid MMI code" error when attempting to access the hidden Service Menu.
The details:
My phone, an LG G3, used to be working well, without any significant issues for a significant time. Then, one day, it was acting slowly for no clear reason. I decided that a reboot would be the most likely help. When my phone came back on, it was very hot. I also noticed that I could no longer double-tap the screen to turn it on -- a feature called KnockON. This works also to turn off the screen, when on the lock or home screen. I restarted the phone and set it to cool down near a vent, hoping this would set everything as it was before. The issues remained, and those issues were that a few features, just a small handful that I observed, were switched. If they were disabled, they were turned on, and if they were enabled, they were turned off. Not many, so I dealt with all of them quickly. Examples: The battery percentage was hidden, when I had it showing. Vibrate On Tap was active, even though I leave it off. And most importantly, KnockON, a feature not in an openly accessible menu, suddenly no longer worked.
After some research, I discovered that those seeking to disable the KnockON feature can go through the Dialer, by typing in it special codes called MMI codes, which would depend on the phone model, primarily. The site stated that what needs to be entered into the Dialer is: 3845#*XXX# where XXX is the model number of the phone, or 855 is it is an international model. Apparently, this model number actually varies by Provider. AT&T uses 850, T-Mobile uses 851... This is irrelevant, but slightly interesting. By searching in the regular menus, I determine that my model number is 852. Thus, I enter the code as instructed, and receive an error message, which follows me with every future attempt I make with other codes just in case: "Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
Source for the MMI code information: The article is called "How to disable KnockON (double tap to wake) on the LG G3 and other LG Android phones" but I cannot link it in my post.
Now, I've asked LG for their customer service person to help me out. After a series of live chats and calls, mostly summing up to "Hard Reset" a specialist told me that the code which I found online is wrong for my phone. Because my provider is Canadian, "3845" is not how my code is supposed to begin. Therefore I have to ask my provider, Virgin Mobile, to give me their MMI code. Virgin leads has their own agent then explain to me that they don't have any MMI codes, that this is a matter for the Manufacturer to handle. Therefore I was just led in a loop. Which one is really supposed to have this number in one of their documents somewhere? I'd imagine somebody made the system and determined how these phones are preset before customer use, including these, and that the rules can be found somewhere. This is irrelevant, as it appears I will never know.
Among the other solutions I've tried through research and suggestions by the help desk agents include:
-Going to the Mobile Networks submenu and making sure that my provider's network is properly selected (after all, the first part of the error message says "Connection problem...")
-Using a comma or a plus sign in various places when dialing in order to use their supposed ability to force the MMI code to go through by ignoring the error message (the comma never had any effect, and the plus sign failed with a disconnecting call)
-Restarting my phone
-Inputting the code while in Safe Mode
One possible solution that failed was accessing the hidden "Info" menu in order to enable SMS Over IMS (VoLTE). This was suggested as a solution, for reasons unknown to me, but I could not even attempt it because a message popped up when I tried to access that section of the Info menu, clearly stating that my phone wasn't permitted to go there. This hints that maybe my Service Menu is disabled too, but can't be assumed with absolute confidence.
As far as I am aware, these are all the steps I've taken to resolve this issue, and all the necessary context behind it. If you stop by to help, I thank you very much for your time and effort.
Found it!
Hi, I was having the same problem and then read your post, after many tries, no codes worked, until I found a video on youtube.
I also found that the model number on my Virgin Canada phone had D850 on the back, but D852 in the settings... I guess that made the other codes useless...
Anyhow, If your still stuck the code is
*#546368#*XXX#
Thank you!
You are amazing! I really wish I knew why neither the cell carrier nor the manufacturer know their codes, but you are awesome, thank you so much. I can finally use KnockON/OFF again!
Additional question
Kyrev, did your issue get triggered the same way as mine? Sudden overheating? And did multiple of your features toggle just like in my issue?
