[Q] Android and Caller ID Display on BT headsets - Android Apps and Games

Can anyone tell me if Android phones, support Caller ID Display on BT headsets supporting this feature?
I'm specifically interested to know if HTC DHD (Android 2.2) display caller number or name, in Nokia BH-903 bluetooth headset?

I think this is more a function of the bluetooth headset. I have a Jabra BT8010 and it will display the incoming caller's phone number but it doesn't display the corresponding name from my address book though.

Thanks for your feedback!
It works so nice with my actual Nokia phone, that it may be enough to hold me back changing into a new Smartphone again...
Then I'm also afraid that Android may not export properly the contact list to the BT system in my car (Ford), neither it will display the names, when a new call comes in...
It is a petty! So much technology, so much advance and so few systems integration for technologies with years in the market...

Unfortunately the information given here is incorrect this is a functionnality of the phone.... I connect a SonyEricsson MW600 to an iPhone and an HTC Desire Z, the iPhone allow me to see whose calling on the remote (Name of the caller) while the Android phone just display the phone number... what a shame... the device looses a lot of its use.
Same issue for the music, it does not display the title of the song with Android. Google, DO something !

I no only a few phones are referred to in this thread. But is this really true for all android phones Wow my phone just seems to have lost some of its coolness
And the way samsung suckzass with updating my Epic is just not feeling so Epic any more

See that is so lame. How can R&D QA & QC miss that? When are th dumb ppl at the cell oems and telcoms going to see the light of beta teaters. I mean duh M$ did it with windows 7 and that OS turnd out prity good.
Sent from the Drivers Seat of my Suby txting and Driving doing 100MPH+ in a school zone! Ha.

The SE MW600 is a great Headset.
The capability of prompting Caller/Track ID on the display is neither proprieatary for this special headset or smartphone model, nor Sony Ericsson.
Its a standard bluetooth protocol: named AVRCP 1.3 (for Audio/Video Remote Control Profile)
So it truly IS a shame even the android/linux people don't stick to the rules!
On my WinMob 6.5 HTC Touch HD, Track ID didn't work, BUT Caller ID display (contact+number) worked! In advance Voice Command, announced the Caller, which is quite useful if you really can't take a look on the phone or headset for example riding my bike...
On my Defy+ Stock 2.3.6 its vice versa (which is bullsh*t)
Hope there will be an update,

Note, it should be installable anywhere. But you have to launch it twice to load it. And it only closes properly with a task killer.

Hello!
How this BT Manager works?
I'm using BlueSoleil BT Stack, and it works good, but sometimes it is not stable, and there are things that I cannot understand in it. And that is less graphical than yours.
So? Is it a stack for beginners with fancy graphics, or for intermediates with better graphics than Bluesoleil?
vijay555,
Good prog, but the message Please turn off Flight Mode first! sometimes appears.

The message Please turn off Flight Mode first! gone by this version!!!
I'll give it a try, it looks amazing... thank you very much

Vijay? Is that your application, or is that the Bluetooth Manager ripped off of a Eten or Dopod ROM? Hell, if it's your application, I would sue Eten for using it (unless they buy from you?)
Just my thoughts, anyway
Cya
moghisi101: as it says in the bit of text you quoted, it's nothing to do with me, it's ripped from the Eten rom. Someone needed a bluetooth manager so I posted it up. But Eten can pay me if they want to, but I guess they'll sue me first!
V
Sorry
I tend to scan read and miss out a lot of small things...
So, does this bluetooth manager work? Anybody?
There's another thread on this manager in the development section. More people reporting they've had some success with it.

Only one question... com-ports?
Is it real to make them work? Or we have only FTP?
bt manager
i'v installed the manager here and its nice and all but it still a crappy one
if anyone got a bt manager the does :
1. you can see which bt device you are connected 2 and can connect/unconnect.
2. you can unpair/pair device
3. you can actually explore the divice files (like i can do with the samsung z300 i got)
it will be very helfull indeed
Does it contain A2DP?
Hi Vijay555,
I am still very poor as far as modifications on my XDA mini are concerned... I tried the bluetooth stack in the other thread, with no success (I know now that my german ROM is too old, I own ROM 1.12.01GER with Radio 1.12.00).
O2 Germany does not offer update to this version.
All I would like to do is listen to my music on a bluetooth stereo headset, which isn't working without a modification of my bluetooth components...
Can your bluetooth manager help me ? Does it deliver A2DP to my XDA mini ?
Thanks for your reply in advance,
No, I'm afraid not... but didn't you get drivers with your bluetooth headset?
Have you tried the MSI BluePlayer?
V
Hello Vijay555,
thanks for your quick answer. I did not try this yet, also there are two version of this player:
On their website the say one is for WinCE 4.2, one for WinCE 5.0...
Are those different to Windows Mobile 2003 SE (which I have), resp. which one can I take and what is the risk with it ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help,
yours sincerely,
Windows Mobile 2003 SE is based on WinCE 4.2, so go for that one.
No risk with it, but as it's a relatively big program, I'd recommend taking a quick backup before installing, just in case.
However, it can be deleted ok. It's an interesting app, it enables stereo bluetooth... however, I think it still needs to be hacked. But try it, and let us know if it works on your set.
V
Dear Vijay555,
thank you once more for your support.
I just installed the WinCE 4.2 File, and the programm runs stable, as well as the rest of my XDAmini...
So now, I will have to buy a bluetooth stereo headset....
But which one ? Do I have to watch out for something special (specifications, manufacturer etc.) ? I would appreciate also taking telephone calls with this headset, but this is not a must...
Thanks in advance for your help on this topic, I 'll keep you updated about the progress I will face...
Yours truly,

Telephone Call Recording Survey

Guys,
I'm sure we're all reading numerous posts by members who have managed to record two way conversations on varieties of hardware using various apps and by rubbing garlic on their dog's testicles during a full moon.
If you have successfully recorded a two way conversation (ie your voice, and the other person's voice), please indicate on the poll, or more importantly, indicate which phone you were using, with which software.
I would say that being able to record because you have a particularly loud speaker is NOT a positive result. But if you think it works very well, it would help to know what tricks you pulled to achieve this.
So having both participants on speakerphone, or just talking particularly loudly and the microphone is picking up overflow sound is NOT a positive result. But if you think it counts and is very clear, please indicate.
I hope this is for everyone's benefit
EDIT: please read this article from PocketPCMag for info on the various software available.
V
So haveing the other side over a BT handsfree (Supertooth) and thus recording both me and my partner in conversation does count
jpiek: Aaah, you got through the small print. You win the prize! Drinks on you
No: But I'd be interested to know if anyone's successfully recorded both sides on a non speakerphone headset. If you're using any bluetooth option, please specify any special stack and hardware.
V
Sorry, can't help you here...
Some brainspatters overhere:
Why is audio allways such a problem ? If an option works for the PPC part, it doesn't for the Phone and vice versa (Tomtom over BT IE)...
I'm getting the impression we really bought a Phone + PPC in one.... In One case that is, NOT in one design , let alone integrated...
Exactly. The implementation of the phone part is not particularly well integrated into the PDA OS AFAIK. But this is both a hardware and software limitation I think. But since some people seem to suggest that it certainly does work, I'd like a definitive idea of who it does work for, and if so, how... Frankly it's not something that I'm interested in, but I'd just like an answer!
V
You may also want to read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=513&more=1 on this subject - it gives a nice overview of what you can expect from PPC PE devices and what applications there're to (even automatically) record phone calls.
THANKS FROM ACHILLE
I have to thank you all for this explanation. Very usefull. Thanx again.

Don't really know which is the problem here, at least for me. I have downloaded PMRecorder - free -, installed, recorded a conversarion and works perfectly. try:
http://1800message.com/default.aspx
Well, I'd like to add something. Maybe it works because I used speaker ON. I don't know.
I'll try again.
works for me
I have a O2 xda mini s and i am using a software called vito audio notes...it records both my voice and the other persons clearly...
PMRecorder works pretty well on a Qtek8500 (startrek).
vbi: that's interesting, I wonder if the Smartphones have a different audio path implementation. You can hear both sides clearly, not just because loudspeaker/receiver speaker can be picked up by the microphone?
V
O2 XDA smartphone (a Tornado w/o WiFi) with i-mate sp5m firmware. Conversations are perfectly recorded with PMRecorder; both my and opponent's voices are loud and clear.
I have attached a sample - russian-speaking people - me and colleague
I try PMrecorder with a Motorola Q and the program record,
I view the size of the file .rcwv but when I play the file, via PMrecorder, I ear nothing.
Some one have a solution ?
And how I can transfert the file via Activesync and change the file to .wav ?

But the same Problem (hardware wont support)
Records My voice but Not the voice of the Called/calling party.
In speakerphone mode though It might record But Faintly.
jeasbe: as much as I would like to be greatful for you contribution, Menneisyys, the author of the article that you liberally cut and pasted, already points to his article above (and I link to it in the first post I wrote), in a great, definitive article.

I don't understand something. I could understand the point about the incoming sound stream not being routed through the pc part of the phone if it was only being output through the speaker or the headset.
However it's also capable of being output through a bluetooth connection. Doesn't this make it possible in some way to create software that can get hold of it (in the same way as the bluetooth software can) and stick it in a file alongside the outgoing sound stream?
Please excuse me if I'm being a simpleton.
BaldBoy: there are many threads on this issue, and this is one of the ideas that has been discussed. However, Mamaich has indicated that the audio path for the bluetooth path is again separate from the PDA path; thus it may be possible to catch the audio stream by simulating a bluetooth transmitter and receiver in the same device. However, I don't think any of us has tried it to date.

Sound unlock on HTc Desire, does it work on others devices?

Hi everybody!
I have released application that unlock the level of the sound on the HTC Desire when you use a headset (Pretty big boost, either for the quality).
I'm am interested of knowing if it's work on others devices, maybe like the Nexus One ?
The application name is "Desire Sound Unlock", and for every first report, I will charge back you the money if it's work. If not, just uninstall the application in the 24 hours
Cheers !
It's confirm to working with Nexus One 2.2
does this increase the earpiece volume (e.g., no headset) if yes, i'll give it a try. thanks.
Sorry, it's just increase the volume with the headset.
I am search a solution for the earset, but nothing yet

Actually makes headset volume quieter on Cyanogen 6.0.1. Not gonna refund yet, will wait.
@slimdizzy : I'm pretty sure that most of the ROM not based on HTC european ROM don't have the limitation that this app remove. It's related to a european lawn that limite volume on headset.
So, this will probably never work "better" for you.
Sorry mate

Doesnt work at all with HTC desire 2.1 stock (GSM) Telus North America.
why???
@ecitron , @summing889 : it seems that the limitation that this app unlock is specific to the european devices (maybe related to a european law about ears protection for all device that play music )

[Q] Sensation and Bluetooth keyboard?

Anyone who has one, have you tried a BT keyboard out yet? I have a DHD which doesn't support one but was hoping the Sensation, with BT3, would.
Any information appreciated.
Dave
Hmmm. I know there aren't too many Sensations in the wild yet but I thought that someone might have tried a BT keyboard by now.... Is there any way to know if the BT 'HID' profile is on the phone? I believe that's the profile needed for a keyboard.
Any comments on this driver ... https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mymobilegear ... ? Seems to have mixed reviews in the market.
Also, what's the general consensus on BT with the Sensation for headsets and music streaming to, say, a car head unit? Any problems seen as yet? I ask as none of the reviews I've seen mention BT except to say 'it's supported'.
Thanks
Dave
Can't comment on Bluetooth keyboards, but i have used it in my car paired with my Sony car stereo and it works fine. Think that is using the Bluetooth headphone profile.

Thanks for that. Been doing some more digging to try to find out about keyboards. Seems my current phone "should" support a keyboard like the Freedom Pro which supports the SPP profile (also used for keyboards, as is the HID profile). See ... http://www.apt8h.com/Computer/Elect...st-foldable-bluetooth-keyboards-reviewed.html ... for a review and more details.
Then I had one of those doh!!! moments and checked HTCs website for the Sensation at ... http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html ... and down under Bluetooth we find ...
"... Bluetooth® 3.0
A2DP for wireless stereo headsets
FTP and OPP (object push) for file transfer
PBAP for phonebook access from the car kit
Other supported profiles: AVRCP, GAP, GOEP, HFP, HID, HSP, MAP, SPP, SDAP ..."
Seems I answered my own question However, the proof of the pudding and all that .... it'd still be interesting to find someone who'd had one working ...

That'd be great. Just to clarify though, I don't think it's the BT 3 that's the issue as prior BT levels had the HID profile with other phones. I think BT 3 itself is more about power savings. Why HTC decided to add the HID profile to this release, arther than earlier, is anyones guess. Be interesting to know that as well though .....

So, final verdict? Which keyboard should one get if they want a mini keyboard that can fit in ones pockets?
Someone recommended me the Bluetooth mini keyboard. I want something small without paying the premium price of the Dinovo Mini
My Rii mini bluetooth keyboard works flawlessly with my Sensation. You don't need to install anything just search for devices and connect
bluezimie didn't work. Using keypro and so far so good.
i-Tech VKB and keypro
Update:
Been using the i-tech vkb for a day and so far ok for what it is. This virtual keyboard is what I remember it is to be since I used it with my old MW600 by Sony Ericsson running Symbian OS.
The app works great with this kb. Of course there will be miskeys due to the spacing of the kb and where your finger is pressed, but I get that anyway using the onscreen kb lol....
Anyway here are some pics I snapped. I know it's pretty bright in here. It's 105 here today! There's bound to be "SOME" sun lol

if you want voice dialing buy a different phone

if you want to be able to voice dial, do not buy the htc sensation. the voice search doesn't work with bluetooth, and the phone is incapable of voicedialing. if you manage to get the apk for voice dialing installed,it will only force close on the phone; and other people posting in this forum will happily lead you astray and tell you to use expensive third party apps that will not work anyway. vlingo is the most commonly refered app and though it is free,it is not available for the sensation and if you manage to get it by way of work around, then it will actually ''brick'' your phone. this is a good phone, but the only option i have found that actually works is to use my pioneer z130 car stereo, which saves the contacts to the head unit itself and has its own voice dialing that does work. however, this is the only option.as a car stereo business owner and the holder of a masters degree in computer science,i have tried everything to make it work, but this pioneer stereo option was a fluke. so if you want to use bt for voice commands or voice dial period....by a different device, not a sensation.
u mad bro?

I don't use bluetooth but I can voice-dial just fine.
Just because bluetooth may not work with voice search doesn't mean the phone itself is incapable of voice-dialing.
Hold down search button
"Call 123-456-7890"
Works everytime
I'm able to use bluetooth voice dialing.
I'm using a BlueAnt T1 headset and I always voice dial without any problems while driving.

you people are either incedible liars or smoking some good stuff
It's not our fault you don't know how to use a phone.
No problems for me either. Works just fine, even when using my BT device.

Mark me as dumb too then, because it won't work for me. I can do anything at all with the google button, from emails to texts, to google searches, maps, etc.
When I do a call command, it searches the web for "call [whoever I said]"
When I hold the call button on my bluetooth headset for 2 seconds, and try to voice dial, it calls but calls no one. no number. gives me to TMO.
I'm not ragging on the phone. It seems it works without bluetooth, but if you have it working with bluetooth, what settings are you using? because the stock android isn't working for me.

Do you seriously think this isn't a conspiracy of the homosexual mafia? oh the humanity?!?!?
Even if the OP were correct this would be fixed by development.

vlingo is the most commonly refered app and though it is free,it is not available for the sensation and if you manage to get it by way of work around, then it will actually ''brick'' your phone.

Vlingo works fine here.. it didn't "brick" my phone. I use it everyday...
Have you considered that it coups be tire phone malfunctioning, your blue tooth malfunctioning or your accent? All things that affect the reliability of vice dialing.
Pretty weird that you can't seem to accept that voice dialing does work for others...

Vlingo works great for me, too. It was one of the first apps I installed on my Sensation and I use it everyday wth no problem and no "bricking". And for your information, no, I am not an incredible liar nor do I smoke.
you are all wonderful liars. i can see this forum is not for honest people. this is a shame. vlingo does not work on the sensation and it will brick a phone. too many of my customers as well as myself have experienced this. and as for the moron who suggested i dont know how to use a phone, bite me. you are not capable of an intelligent thought if albert einstein were pulling your strings himself. you liars are pathetic.if you dont have something constructive to post in reply to my thread stay the [email protected]#$ off of it.especially if you dont know the difference between the truth and an outright lie.

kind of hard to accept that it works for others when the code doesnt exist in the phone and the manufacturer even tells you that the phone doesnt have it. i guess you people got a special shipment the manufacturer dont know about.
