Guys,
I'm sure we're all reading numerous posts by members who have managed to record two way conversations on varieties of hardware using various apps and by rubbing garlic on their dog's testicles during a full moon.
If you have successfully recorded a two way conversation (ie your voice, and the other person's voice), please indicate on the poll, or more importantly, indicate which phone you were using, with which software.
I would say that being able to record because you have a particularly loud speaker is NOT a positive result. But if you think it works very well, it would help to know what tricks you pulled to achieve this.
So having both participants on speakerphone, or just talking particularly loudly and the microphone is picking up overflow sound is NOT a positive result. But if you think it counts and is very clear, please indicate.
I hope this is for everyone's benefit
EDIT: please read this article from PocketPCMag for info on the various software available.
V
So haveing the other side over a BT handsfree (Supertooth) and thus recording both me and my partner in conversation does count
jpiek: Aaah, you got through the small print. You win the prize! Drinks on you
No: But I'd be interested to know if anyone's successfully recorded both sides on a non speakerphone headset. If you're using any bluetooth option, please specify any special stack and hardware.
V
Sorry, can't help you here...
Some brainspatters overhere:
Why is audio allways such a problem ? If an option works for the PPC part, it doesn't for the Phone and vice versa (Tomtom over BT IE)...
I'm getting the impression we really bought a Phone + PPC in one.... In One case that is, NOT in one design , let alone integrated...
Exactly. The implementation of the phone part is not particularly well integrated into the PDA OS AFAIK. But this is both a hardware and software limitation I think. But since some people seem to suggest that it certainly does work, I'd like a definitive idea of who it does work for, and if so, how... Frankly it's not something that I'm interested in, but I'd just like an answer!
V
You may also want to read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=513&more=1 on this subject - it gives a nice overview of what you can expect from PPC PE devices and what applications there're to (even automatically) record phone calls.
THANKS FROM ACHILLE
I have to thank you all for this explanation. Very usefull. Thanx again.

Don't really know which is the problem here, at least for me. I have downloaded PMRecorder - free -, installed, recorded a conversarion and works perfectly. try:
http://1800message.com/default.aspx
Well, I'd like to add something. Maybe it works because I used speaker ON. I don't know.
I'll try again.
works for me
I have a O2 xda mini s and i am using a software called vito audio notes...it records both my voice and the other persons clearly...
PMRecorder works pretty well on a Qtek8500 (startrek).
vbi: that's interesting, I wonder if the Smartphones have a different audio path implementation. You can hear both sides clearly, not just because loudspeaker/receiver speaker can be picked up by the microphone?
V
O2 XDA smartphone (a Tornado w/o WiFi) with i-mate sp5m firmware. Conversations are perfectly recorded with PMRecorder; both my and opponent's voices are loud and clear.
I have attached a sample - russian-speaking people - me and colleague
I try PMrecorder with a Motorola Q and the program record,
I view the size of the file .rcwv but when I play the file, via PMrecorder, I ear nothing.
Some one have a solution ?
And how I can transfert the file via Activesync and change the file to .wav ?

ATTACHED CALL RECORDER
I have posted the File.
Installed on My O2 Mini S without any hassle.
But the same Problem (hardware wont support)
Records My voice but Not the voice of the Called/calling party.
In speakerphone mode though It might record But Faintly.
jeasbe: as much as I would like to be greatful for you contribution, Menneisyys, the author of the article that you liberally cut and pasted, already points to his article above (and I link to it in the first post I wrote), in a great, definitive article.
It seems that PMRecorder didn't work for you anyway. Anyone got any new, positive news on this issue?

I don't understand something. I could understand the point about the incoming sound stream not being routed through the pc part of the phone if it was only being output through the speaker or the headset.
However it's also capable of being output through a bluetooth connection. Doesn't this make it possible in some way to create software that can get hold of it (in the same way as the bluetooth software can) and stick it in a file alongside the outgoing sound stream?
Please excuse me if I'm being a simpleton.
BaldBoy: there are many threads on this issue, and this is one of the ideas that has been discussed. However, Mamaich has indicated that the audio path for the bluetooth path is again separate from the PDA path; thus it may be possible to catch the audio stream by simulating a bluetooth transmitter and receiver in the same device. However, I don't think any of us has tried it to date.

Hello!
How this BT Manager works?
I'm using BlueSoleil BT Stack, and it works good, but sometimes it is not stable, and there are things that I cannot understand in it. And that is less graphical than yours.
So? Is it a stack for beginners with fancy graphics, or for intermediates with better graphics than Bluesoleil?
vijay555,

Vijay? Is that your application, or is that the Bluetooth Manager ripped off of a Eten or Dopod ROM? Hell, if it's your application, I would sue Eten for using it (unless they buy from you?)
Just my thoughts, anyway

moghisi101: as it says in the bit of text you quoted, it's nothing to do with me, it's ripped from the Eten rom. Someone needed a bluetooth manager so I posted it up. But Eten can pay me if they want to, but I guess they'll sue me first!

Tnx, vijay! Its a greate addon for poor-functional magikans MS bt.
Only one question... com-ports?
Is it real to make them work? Or we have only FTP?
bt manager
i'v installed the manager here and its nice and all but it still a crappy one
if anyone got a bt manager the does :
1. you can see which bt device you are connected 2 and can connect/unconnect.
2. you can unpair/pair device
3. you can actually explore the divice files (like i can do with the samsung z300 i got)
it will be very helfull indeed
Does it contain A2DP?
Hi Vijay555,
I am still very poor as far as modifications on my XDA mini are concerned... I tried the bluetooth stack in the other thread, with no success (I know now that my german ROM is too old, I own ROM 1.12.01GER with Radio 1.12.00).
O2 Germany does not offer update to this version.
All I would like to do is listen to my music on a bluetooth stereo headset, which isn't working without a modification of my bluetooth components...
Can your bluetooth manager help me ? Does it deliver A2DP to my XDA mini ?
Thanks for your reply in advance,
No, I'm afraid not... but didn't you get drivers with your bluetooth headset?
Have you tried the MSI BluePlayer?
V
Hello Vijay555,
thanks for your quick answer. I did not try this yet, also there are two version of this player:
On their website the say one is for WinCE 4.2, one for WinCE 5.0...
Are those different to Windows Mobile 2003 SE (which I have), resp. which one can I take and what is the risk with it ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help,
yours sincerely,
Windows Mobile 2003 SE is based on WinCE 4.2, so go for that one.
No risk with it, but as it's a relatively big program, I'd recommend taking a quick backup before installing, just in case.
However, it can be deleted ok. It's an interesting app, it enables stereo bluetooth... however, I think it still needs to be hacked. But try it, and let us know if it works on your set.
V
Dear Vijay555,
thank you once more for your support.
I just installed the WinCE 4.2 File, and the programm runs stable, as well as the rest of my XDAmini...
So now, I will have to buy a bluetooth stereo headset....
But which one ? Do I have to watch out for something special (specifications, manufacturer etc.) ? I would appreciate also taking telephone calls with this headset, but this is not a must...
Thanks in advance for your help on this topic, I 'll keep you updated about the progress I will face...

Very informative. Thanks a lot!
Great overview!
Any word on a Media Player (or plugin for Windows Media Player) to display titles on the display of a Nokia HS12w?
I can confirm that voice dialing using the HS12w works with the Cyberon software as well (my TyTN came with this installed). Jetwaremobile has a new beta software to show the name of the caller rather than the number; I'll have to try the latest beta (1.25), as I was unsuccesfull with previous versions.

Don't really know of any plug-ins, unfortunately.
Several new Plantronics Pulsar 260 reviews published
It was over a month ago that I’ve published an all-in-one comparative review & compatibility report (available HERE) on three A2DP (stereo Bluetooth) headphones. Now that the headphones have also arrived at the U.S. too (at last, something we Europeans got way earlier than you Americans ), a lot of reviews have surfaced on well-known headset / headphones manufacturer Plantronics’ new Pulsar 260 also featured in the above-linked roundup.

Unfortunately, as has been emphasized numerous times by me and a LOT of other mostly XDA-Developers and HowardForums users (I really recommend following the BT & A2DP-related posts in these two forums, there are some very knowledgeable people there; for example, Fire Dragan in the latter forum), the current state and implementations of the A2DP standard are far from perfect and interoperability is REALLY reduced. This means on paper A2DP-capable headphones are not guaranteed to co-work with any A2DP sources. An example of this, in addition to the major sound quality problems with the MS BT stack, is the constant reconnection problems (resulting in annoying beeps and pauses) with the Nokia 5300. And, of course, the sound quality issues...
This also means you WILL want to read my review & comparison. Believe me, no matter what some people state, these headphones deliver REALLY BAD sound quality when used together with the Microsoft Bluetooth stack coming with almost all current Windows Mobile-based devices (except for the Acer models, the HP iPAQ’s (including the hw6915) and the Fujitsu-Siemens T830). I’ve also elaborated on these issues in this PPCT thread – it’s REALLY worth giving a read to see why I state they are incompatible with the stack. You’ve been warned – don’t come telling me you’ve shelled out $50…$100 for a really bad-sounding pair of BT headphones because I haven’t warned you
OK, the new reviews, packed with photos:
The Gadgeteer review
GearDiary review
Digital Trends review
CTIA 2007 Blog post; related PPCT thread
BTW, upon the European release of the 260, Plantronics still didn’t have the promised and, in the leaflet accompanying the headphones, referenced online documentation. Now it’s out and available here.
I have VERY good new for most WM6 users: make sure you read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1296053
Hey... I found a really cool recording studio app called Meteor
I installed the demo cab and it works like a charm (you just can't save your work on the demo version).
I'm amazed what our little phones are capable of doing. By the way... this is the first application I've seen where pinch to zoom is a real necessity. In fact... I always have it maximum zoomed and this way it's almost like a virtual desktop. (difficult to explain but I hope you know what I mean)

Not quite... Meteor is a multi-track recording studio that lets you record audio (guitar & voice for example) and process it in many ways. I'm amazed that it really works! But as I said... you need to enable pinch to zoom because the buttons are incredibly tiny!

I guess it would have to connect through the micro USB somehow, there's plenty of USB 2.0 mics around but I doubt they'd be compatible via a micro USB/USB 2.0 adapter?
To be fair though the sound quality of the phone mic isn't that bad for low level stuff, I'm amazed at what this phone can do!!
Thanks again for the heads up about MeTeor, excellent find!
Damn, love that Meteor-program!!! Allright, took some definite tweaking before it worked well enough to be functional on the hd2.
But now i've got a working 12 track harddisk recording system in cd-quality in my pocket....for only 30 bucks??!!!
I LOVE my HD2!!!!!
Thanx a million Tubgirl
I think the USB-Mic won't work...problem starts with drivers and ends up with 5V power-supply....
Well, the power-supply could be solved with internal batteries in the mic itself, or just using a dynamic microphone (needs no power to operate)....but drivers are probably the biggest issue...don't even know if one can even write driver software to WinMo, just like it's done to Vista etc.... ??

Well shure, I am afraid its a bit complicated. I'll try and see if I can describe it in a way that makes sense .
The first problem one might experience, at least i did on mine (using official htc 1.66 rom), is crackles, pops and dropouts in your recordings. This can be corrected with some adjustments to audiobuffersettings and the cachesize set by Meteor for your sd-card.
1. You need to find the "PREFS.xml"-file, in the Meteor directory. For me it would be here: My Phone\Memorycard\programs\Meteor\
2. You will need a browser that can open and edit XML-files, I used Adobe Dreamweaver.
3. Open the PREFS.xml and adjust the following:
AudioBufferSize="2048" -> AudioBufferSize="4096"
AudioBufferCount="32" -> AudioBufferCount="64"
ReadCacheSize="32768" -> ReadCacheSize="131072"
WriteCacheSize="65536" -> WriteCacheSize="262144"
These are maximum settings, and all in coherrence with what the manual suggests for troubleshooting by the way: View attachment Meteor_manual.zip
THE SECOND PROBLEM with the HD 2 as a multitrack harddisc recorder, as with any DAW-system, is mainly the question of latency.
(for info on DAW, check this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_workstation)
Latency refers to how long the system (meaning processor, RAM, disc etc) is to actually process the sound converted (ADC), recorded, replayed & deconverted (DAC) again.
For the DAW to work properly (avoiding sync-issues between different recordings), it most know its own latency - hence the calibrating/strange beeps when running Meteor the first time.
Only thing is, that even though HD 2 is fast, it appears to have either a slow soundcard/ADC-DAC-converter or pourly written driversoftware to support it. Either way, at least on my phone, Meteor simply cannot deliver ENOUGH LATENCY, to compensate sync-issues, especially not with the above buffer and cachesettings set to maximum, not even with "Synchronize Audio Threads" under <setup> ticked (Which should be done by the way!).
There is a workaround though, but it requires you to know with what BPM (120 bpm being default) you are running during your current recording session and what latency will fit the current bpm you are running with.
The point is that you SIMPLY ADJUST the recording BACK according to your starting point of recording.
EXAMPLE:
You plan to record on track one at 120 bpm, so you set the cursor at the 1-figure at the ruler in the upperbar. you then set your latency under "setup\audio setup" to "940 ms".
Press record. When finished recording you highlight the recording and simply drag it 1-line back (NOT 1-bar, but 1/4 of a bar).
Repeat this for next recording on track 2 or any other, still keeping the 1-ruler as starting point, and you should have two recordings in perfect sync!
This should of course be repeated for every new recording...always dragging it 1-line back to keep sync.
You can test this yourself by the way, by turning on the metronome letting it play thru the HD 2's speakers, simultanously recording it. Drag the recording back, and when playedback, still with the metronome on, you should hear the recording and the metronome playing synchronized. If it is NOT in sync, you need to adjust latency, untill it is, testing with the metronome as above.
120 bpm = 940 ms latency works on my system, but I have no idea if it will work as a standard on all hd 2 phones. Problem is also, that when changing the bpm, you will also have to adjust latency. But assuming that there is some consistency thru this on most HD 2 (though rom and tweaks probably have a huge influence on this), i have here made a list of these values with what bpm = latency: View attachment Latency.zip
Quite complex instructions, hope this will help though. Welcome to ask for clarification, and I'll see if can answer accordingly
Have fun!

Thanks for your feedback!
It works so nice with my actual Nokia phone, that it may be enough to hold me back changing into a new Smartphone again...
Then I'm also afraid that Android may not export properly the contact list to the BT system in my car (Ford), neither it will display the names, when a new call comes in...
It is a petty! So much technology, so much advance and so few systems integration for technologies with years in the market...
Unfortunately the information given here is incorrect this is a functionnality of the phone.... I connect a SonyEricsson MW600 to an iPhone and an HTC Desire Z, the iPhone allow me to see whose calling on the remote (Name of the caller) while the Android phone just display the phone number... what a shame... the device looses a lot of its use.
Same issue for the music, it does not display the title of the song with Android. Google, DO something !

See that is so lame. How can R&D QA & QC miss that? When are th dumb ppl at the cell oems and telcoms going to see the light of beta teaters. I mean duh M$ did it with windows 7 and that OS turnd out prity good.
Sent from the Drivers Seat of my Suby txting and Driving doing 100MPH+ in a school zone! Ha.
The SE MW600 is a great Headset.
The capability of prompting Caller/Track ID on the display is neither proprieatary for this special headset or smartphone model, nor Sony Ericsson.
Its a standard bluetooth protocol: named AVRCP 1.3 (for Audio/Video Remote Control Profile)
So it truly IS a shame even the android/linux people don't stick to the rules!
On my WinMob 6.5 HTC Touch HD, Track ID didn't work, BUT Caller ID display (contact+number) worked! In advance Voice Command, announced the Caller, which is quite useful if you really can't take a look on the phone or headset for example riding my bike...
On my Defy+ Stock 2.3.6 its vice versa (which is bullsh*t)
Hope there will be an update,

Starksoft Smart CallerID allows us to establish high-resolution photos on the caller, as well as:
1) Display a notification after the end of an outgoing call with the contact information and call duration
2) Notifies the loss / finding the network, as well as the inclusion of flight mode
3) Intercepts outgoing calls, protecting it from accidental dialing (with the possible exception or complete shutdown of the function)
4) When switched radio offers to include it in an outgoing call

Is there an English version?
Hello will it work on my modest LG GT540 with custom 2.1 - 2.3 or only until official stock 2.1.
Thanks in advance and good work, and as the user below asked... is there an english version or spanish? would be awesome
Is it possible to sync it with facebook? It would be awesome!!!
Why do you promote the app in english, if even the info in the market is in russian?
Is it possible to get it in any language, or prefferably in english?
looks great, but it's not in english.

I don't know which device you have, but on my device is the app in english.
when you reject a call freezes. Confirmation (save) the size of photos is not working
It is in english just the description is in another language, download it and see.
Just installed it. It was in Russian (I assume) on first load but after closing and opening it again, it's in English. As panoramixxx reported, it hangs on call reject until the calling party drops the call. I need to find some new pics of my contacts, but I like the look of the full screen.

Молодцы, класная програма.
но есть один момент, если сделать бар букв контактов многоязычный (т.е. появятся буквы использованные в контактах), точно как PhonEX для ًWindows Mobile 6.x
---------------------
Fantastic
if you could make the contact bar multilingual , I mean like PhonEx for Window Mobile 6.x , the bar shows the letters which the user uses
Not working on Android 2.3.3?
Doesn´t work on my HTC Desire S, neither to answer or to reject.
I guess it is due to the fact that 3rd party apps are not allowed to answer or reject calls since Android 2.3.3? Or am I wrong?
Too bad thou, since HTC´s up or down slide make me reject a lot of calls (or answer calls that I don´t want to answer) when picking up the phone from my pocket...
Edit: Too bad it isn´t working on my phone, I really want to accept calls left to right instead of up/down... The only annoying thing about HTC phones in my opinion. Would be happy to pay for it if it worked.
Reject works for me, but on my Dell Streak the size is very small (I think we're 160 pixel density by default or something like that).. I can't even see the accept..
Appears to not be optimized for anything above qHD resolution. When someone calls on Atrix, there's a gap between the edge of the bar and the right side of the screen.
Had a force close when I called someone, but still recorded call length and added a notification about it. However while it properly intercepted an incoming call, it didn't put call info up after that call was finished.
Neat idea, a little un-pretty at first until I can get low-res contact pics replaced.. and the resolution scaling gets fixed. But I think I'll keep this around and see where it goes.
Yup, tried this program... There's another on the Market, been there for a long time, but not really great, lots of bugs.
On my Nexus 1, what i've seen so far:
-Can't reject calls = Freezes until voicemail or person hangs up
-Can't replace photos with updated full resolution ones...crashes no matter how I try to do it.
I'll follow this for a while...
thanks for the effort
working on Galaxy Tab, but it is not optimized for its big screen ...Downloaded from the Market.
I tried it but had to uninstall it. Like others I have experienced freezes while trying to reject or hang up the call. Also, CallerID for contacts without pictures was distorted with only half the number showing on screen.
