Hey... I found a really cool recording studio app called Meteor
I installed the demo cab and it works like a charm (you just can't save your work on the demo version).
I'm amazed what our little phones are capable of doing. By the way... this is the first application I've seen where pinch to zoom is a real necessity. In fact... I always have it maximum zoomed and this way it's almost like a virtual desktop. (difficult to explain but I hope you know what I mean)

Thanks. Is it similar to Aurora ?: http://www.4pockets.com/product_info.php?p=125

Not quite... Meteor is a multi-track recording studio that lets you record audio (guitar & voice for example) and process it in many ways. I'm amazed that it really works! But as I said... you need to enable pinch to zoom because the buttons are incredibly tiny!

Excellent! This will come in well handy!
Anyone know of a HD2 compatible version or something similar of this (see attached) ?
Would be really handy for doing rough mixes of my acoustic stuff!
Some nice apps on there. I just bought Chord Explorer, installed it ok but it will not start :-(. Tried re-installing on the phone memory, but still no good.
Anyone else had any problems?

I guess it would have to connect through the micro USB somehow, there's plenty of USB 2.0 mics around but I doubt they'd be compatible via a micro USB/USB 2.0 adapter?
To be fair though the sound quality of the phone mic isn't that bad for low level stuff, I'm amazed at what this phone can do!!
Thanks again for the heads up about MeTeor, excellent find!
Damn, love that Meteor-program!!! Allright, took some definite tweaking before it worked well enough to be functional on the hd2.
But now i've got a working 12 track harddisk recording system in cd-quality in my pocket....for only 30 bucks??!!!
I LOVE my HD2!!!!!
Thanx a million Tubgirl
I think the USB-Mic won't work...problem starts with drivers and ends up with 5V power-supply....
Well, the power-supply could be solved with internal batteries in the mic itself, or just using a dynamic microphone (needs no power to operate)....but drivers are probably the biggest issue...don't even know if one can even write driver software to WinMo, just like it's done to Vista etc.... ??

Yes it's incredible that it really works.
Do you want to share what tweaking you have done?

Well shure, I am afraid its a bit complicated. I'll try and see if I can describe it in a way that makes sense .
The first problem one might experience, at least i did on mine (using official htc 1.66 rom), is crackles, pops and dropouts in your recordings. This can be corrected with some adjustments to audiobuffersettings and the cachesize set by Meteor for your sd-card.
1. You need to find the "PREFS.xml"-file, in the Meteor directory. For me it would be here: My Phone\Memorycard\programs\Meteor\
2. You will need a browser that can open and edit XML-files, I used Adobe Dreamweaver.
3. Open the PREFS.xml and adjust the following:
AudioBufferSize="2048" -> AudioBufferSize="4096"
AudioBufferCount="32" -> AudioBufferCount="64"
ReadCacheSize="32768" -> ReadCacheSize="131072"
WriteCacheSize="65536" -> WriteCacheSize="262144"
These are maximum settings, and all in coherrence with what the manual suggests for troubleshooting by the way: View attachment Meteor_manual.zip
THE SECOND PROBLEM with the HD 2 as a multitrack harddisc recorder, as with any DAW-system, is mainly the question of latency.
(for info on DAW, check this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_workstation)
Latency refers to how long the system (meaning processor, RAM, disc etc) is to actually process the sound converted (ADC), recorded, replayed & deconverted (DAC) again.
For the DAW to work properly (avoiding sync-issues between different recordings), it most know its own latency - hence the calibrating/strange beeps when running Meteor the first time.
Only thing is, that even though HD 2 is fast, it appears to have either a slow soundcard/ADC-DAC-converter or pourly written driversoftware to support it. Either way, at least on my phone, Meteor simply cannot deliver ENOUGH LATENCY, to compensate sync-issues, especially not with the above buffer and cachesettings set to maximum, not even with "Synchronize Audio Threads" under <setup> ticked (Which should be done by the way!).
There is a workaround though, but it requires you to know with what BPM (120 bpm being default) you are running during your current recording session and what latency will fit the current bpm you are running with.
The point is that you SIMPLY ADJUST the recording BACK according to your starting point of recording.
EXAMPLE:
You plan to record on track one at 120 bpm, so you set the cursor at the 1-figure at the ruler in the upperbar. you then set your latency under "setup\audio setup" to "940 ms".
Press record. When finished recording you highlight the recording and simply drag it 1-line back (NOT 1-bar, but 1/4 of a bar).
Repeat this for next recording on track 2 or any other, still keeping the 1-ruler as starting point, and you should have two recordings in perfect sync!
This should of course be repeated for every new recording...always dragging it 1-line back to keep sync.
You can test this yourself by the way, by turning on the metronome letting it play thru the HD 2's speakers, simultanously recording it. Drag the recording back, and when playedback, still with the metronome on, you should hear the recording and the metronome playing synchronized. If it is NOT in sync, you need to adjust latency, untill it is, testing with the metronome as above.
120 bpm = 940 ms latency works on my system, but I have no idea if it will work as a standard on all hd 2 phones. Problem is also, that when changing the bpm, you will also have to adjust latency. But assuming that there is some consistency thru this on most HD 2 (though rom and tweaks probably have a huge influence on this), i have here made a list of these values with what bpm = latency: View attachment Latency.zip
Quite complex instructions, hope this will help though. Welcome to ask for clarification, and I'll see if can answer accordingly
Have fun!

I can't get a clear and good sound with my PocketPlayer when WOW is on. It sounds much better with WOW off and SoundBooster (on WinMo) ON. I listen to Rock and Metal music, so it could be because of that. I increased the first 4 bars of low frequencies in my SoundBooster, and I get a lot of good bass and perfect vocal.

I like the following settings:
sur.: 70
center: 50
def.: 10
focus:10
TruBass: 60 at 60 Hz
Setting def. and focus levels to a low value keeps the sound as close as possible to the original recordings (i.m.o.), while adding enough suround and bass to make it sound really good.
Hi All, first post, and new to the HD2 and all things XDA.... but I've loaded this app and when I go to settings, I get the error "there is no WOW HD driver loaded"
Have missed something?
You've done a soft reset before loading the settings ?

These are the settings I use for my headphones when I listen to music. Haven't played with the other settings yet. Do the settings for the internal speaker also work for the speaker of the phone during a call. Would be nice because I have noticed that my HD2 has some "overdrive" problems when someone talks with a normal volume.
For the input and output gain i use the default settings (-1 db for both)

I have noticed that WOWHD does improve sound with your settings "slightly" when the phone is on full volume, I normally keep mine at 3 quarters so no noticeable diffrence but thanks for your settings they have been a help
Hi,
I've been developing a photographic light meter app for Android. It has got the stage where it is almost ready for release, so I want to ask for your help with a spot of beta testing to work out the kinks!
The app can be downloaded here (just unzip the apk, put it on your sd card and install from there).
In a nutshell, what the app does is take a reading of the current light level, and display the correct exposure settings, it can also be used as a regular exposure and depth of field calculator. It should be fairly intuitive to use, but if you have any problems just post up and I'll try and help!
Ideally what I need is the make and model of your phone, if metering worked, how (in)accurate the metering was and any other comments/notes
Note: Landscape orientation is not finished, so expect weird layout issues there!
Thanks for the help!

Hi - it's not of great interest to me due to the fact I hardly take pictures with my phone, however I would have thought there would be masses of people killing for an app like this.
Here's hoping you get the response you need as we need to keep the developers like you around that come up with the niche applications for the community

Actually, its the other one
I changed the package name and forgot to remove the old apk!
First bug found by NexuSix, the devices should be set to standard unless you have an HTC Hero, not the other way around! However the app should pick up which device your using automatically, the device state access is for the light metering, nothing to worry about but glad to see people paying attention to the permissions apps are asking for!
As for camera type, most DSLRs are APS-C, I'll change the names to make it a bit clearer
Be aware that the metering is only as accurate as the hardware in your phone, which might not be very accurate!
Thanks for the testing so far
Holy cow, this is amazing. I will try it out immediately.
I have a Nikon D40, which, apart from being good and cheap, has the best lens compatibility of any Nikon DSLR, including the professional ones. Downside is the meter doesn't work for pre-AI lenses. This app is going to change my life.
Wow, this is cool. I will test this with my X10 and see how it does.
EDIT: It says light sensor not found, but the X10 does have an ambient light sensor.
Wow! It's p pretty awesome!

This will be because the app uses the standard Android API for accessing the light sensor, which some manufacturers have decided not to implement, I have found a workaround for the HTC Hero, I'll have a look into the X10
I'll try this app cause im a hobbyist photographer
Anyone try this on a MT3G Slide? My gf is a photography student and this app would probably "wow" her... I don't know a thing about camera settings, but I'd install this on her phone as a little surprise if it works...
Neat idea.
I try these settings, but I get this result (screen shot). I think there is a problem with units, when dof is too small its shows zero, as units are always meters.
On the other hand, in the screen shot, dof is 11000 m, but should be 11.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Ok thanks for the screen shot, I've updated the app, can you redownload and install and see if its fixed for me please?
Also the DoF will be displayed in whatever unit you select when setting the Subject D., it can also be switched to imperial units in the menus
Now it works ok!
Well almost... If you calculate dof, and then you press the trackball to meter, all dof values becomes zero.
Great app!

thank you, zokipirlo. this is a great contribution to the android market.
Sounds like Plex, although it does allow you to download.
It doesn't work too good, I got a lot of garbage frames, big boxes of colors and stuff. My PC is fast enough so I don't think it's a problem with the encoding speed.
Also I found a bug, You cant add an entire hard drive letter, on the server it shows like C:/\ and on the app itself it shows C:\\ and when you enter it shows nothing.
I hope this app get better because I miss Air video from my iphone.
Also, could you make MKV embedded subs appear like they appear on the PC? I mean, encoding the subs with the video on the PC (for anime fansub and stuff)
EDIT: this is on a vibrant 2.2
Holy hd batman!!
Works perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy S2, This is great because plex didn't!!

If that's not a problem then it's probably quality related. Can you please tell me which quality profile or bitrate in case of custom profile are you using?
I tried all 3 profiles.
First the default one, appear to be good for 10 seconds but then randomly some frame goes bad and the next 30 frames looks awful too, then it corrects itself for another 10-15 seconds and the same happens.
The dual core preset appear to be the same.
And the low quality preset its a gamble, because sometimes looks better, but still got some bad frames, but sometimes it looks worse than the other 2 presets, almost 95% of bad frames.
Could it be a codec problems? I use CCCP for my video playback needs...

Hello everyone.
I would like to announce my latest production - Music Ride – a game which gameplay is based on the rhythm of the song. I wanted to lern Android NDK... what is the best way to lern new thing? - write a game I will not deny that to write this I was inspired by another production, available on PC. Anyone who is interested in gaming will know what I am talking about, for those who do not know, in a nutshell: the game generate a track and everything what is on it based on the song (it can be any mp3 or ogg selected by player file in a usual format). Your job is to collect rhythm crystals. The game is integrated with Scoreloop scoreboard. Feel free to download and to write any suggestions.
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zr.music.ride
Update 1.2:
I have added few changes in Options menu:
- added setting to change accelerometer sensitivity
- added setting to change how music influences hills height - if you increase this value the generated track will have higher height in places where the music changes its "power"
decreasing this value makes the track more smoother
- added setting to change beat detection sensitivity (it might improve beat detection for example in metal music, or when there is too much drums you can decrease sensitivity to produce more smoother track)
be careful with this option it might make your gameplay unpleasant, and changing it require the song to be "calculated" again

Will give a try
Looks awesome, and I had it figured for an Audiosurf clone when I saw the topic title. The Audiosurf team should have ported to iOS and Android a year or two ago, damn shame there hasn't been anything like it for mobile yet. What would be nice, perhaps, if the rhythm data is not very large (once computed), it might be efficient to crowdsource it using ID3 tags; if the song has been played before by anyone, simply download it; if not, check to see if it's similar to another song's tags (maybe the tag has a typo); if not, create a new one and upload it. Of course it would cost you money to run a server like that, so maybe an optional paid version could benefit from using the online resource.
//edit: Okay, that was fun... until it crashed about 30 seconds in. Doesn't really say why either. Definitely needs a history function, where you can quickly access the last dozen or so songs you've played, and possibly a favorites list you can add to as well. Controls are a bit loose, it's hard to not get crystals if you're trying to collect sets.
Gives me an fc when i select to pick from my music. Still, it's about time that something like audiosurf gets to mobile. I'm keeping it
I made small update - you can control the ship using accelerometer and I hope the Scoreloop integration works fine now. It would be nice if someone post me an information if it really work as it should.
I have changed some parameters too, the road should have now bigger hills, it would be nice to know if it is better now or maybe smoother/smaller hills are nicer?
Force closes on Custom Music selection.
Galaxy Exhibit on CM10
Awesome so much fun, makes your eyes go a bit weird though! my personal favorite to play so far is Gangnam style.

Looks good.
A few fixes and graphic improvements and it would be amazing.
The track creation is very primitive. It is created using height only, which means that I can't create loops or sudden changes in hills heights. In short version: the height is calculated using interpolation between detected beat data and is modified by approximation of sound power data.
Hope you don't mind, I pimped your app over on Reddit's /r/AndroidGaming. I'd like to see more people try this out. On second thought, I'll refer that thread back here so you can potentially get feedback here as well, I figure Reddit and XDA have to have some cross section of users.
Just updated to/tried today's update, and it crashes sooner now. You should update it with some sort of log collecting thing (but be clear what it is, some people might not appreciate it) and let it collect some data on crashes, maybe it will help you track down the problems.
Accelerometer is a bit too sensitive, the slightest tilt sends you across the track.
Note to self: Fast metal songs are not fun in games like this.

The error in your case might be "out of memory", but I am not sure. You can try shorter songs but longer than the time after it crashes it might give me a clue.
I will add in options setting for accelerometer sensitivity, and maybe I will add posibility to change sensitivity of beat detection algorithm (it might help in metal songs) of course when I find some spare time. The beat detection algorithm in Audiosurf must be far more advanced than this used by me.
Well, I have 1GB of RAM on my phone. It shouldn't run out of RAM unless it needs an unusually high amount.

You can try to send error report if you didn't do that. And about memory: I was think about GPU memory but I don't know how the memory is divided between system and GPU, anyway I have one "out of memory" error report from device with 512MB ram, and I was testing this game on LG GT540 (with CM7) - it has 156MB ram. So far I have only 3 types of error reports and only one of them look suspicious.
BTW I made an update. I added few additional settings i options menu. I put this informations in first post.
Awesome Game I recommend it for everyone who like music games
I'm still having problems with Scoreloop. I have asked support to reset leaderboard and (hopefully) found bug. But still I can see only my own score, can anyone try to send score so I can confirm if it is working now pls? Of course you have to have latest version - 1.3
Tested it on my wife's phone. Same as mine but stock ROM. Worked great. So it's just the custom ROM or kernel. It's part of the risk of running Jelly Bean on an unsupported device.

Thanks for information, that's good news I don't have any new errors so far, but it's because there is not much new installations.
One thing (error) bothers me - it looks like few devices don't have system activity to handle "select song" action - I don't know what causes this.
Maybe you could build one? I for one have a couple thousand songs and a straight list is inconvenient. A search box would go a long way, doubly so if it were real time. Not sure how possible that is.

Small game but a lot of fun
I think that graphics is too dark. But the game is good!

Hello,
It's a nice idea. The app is well realized and can be useful in some cases.
I keep that on my device for use .

Seems like a cool idea but much liek the app suggests, it blocks for other apps to use the mic, meaning I cant videorecord for instance.

This is because of Android framework imperfection. In future problem will be solved some way.
Just found this app and love it so far.
Could you tell me what I should expect when using a Bluetooth headset? Will it record my headset? Record nothing or Carry on as normal?
Could I also ask for a feature request, it would be nice to see a waveform of the recorded file? The would be a great bonus.
Thanks again for a great app - I'll keep you posted with any bugs!

Thank you very much for your feedback! It's very important for me to know that someone likes my application. Unfortunately i don't have a bluetooth headset, so i can't check. Please check if you have and tell me how it works Waveforms is a great feature that definitely will be presented in future releases. Now i'm working on extra cool update that will be released in a few days. It will not contain waveforms yet, but nonetheless I'm sure you will be amazed!
Just saw the new update! Looking forward to using it.
I did some testing with the bluetooth handsfree and it still records from the phone microphone and NOT the bluetooth headset microphone. Which is ideal really as it keeps everything consistent.
The new version has a cache size and seems to be set to 67hours, is this correct? The size that it says for 67hours looks huge and I don't have that amount of space on my phone, should I change the cache size to 24/48 hours? or just leave it at the 67 hours? any info on the purpose of this would be great.
Finally, the recordings could now have quite a large file size is there anyway to crop the recording? Say it's been recording for 2 hours but I only want the conversation that happened between 10 mins and 8 mins ago (total 2min recording) could I achieve this? or would I have to save the full 2 hour recording?
Great work!

Thank you very much Rochey for the quick and detailed feedback! I very appreciate it!
Initially, the cache size is set to maximum value, which is dramatically huge on your phone I probably should limit it to 24 hours Anyway, you can set it on any value you prefer.
Cropping feature will be presented in future releases. This means that you will have an ability to crop the cache and save some fragment of recording. If you want just to listen conversation from your example - as long as the moment you interested in is in cache, you can jump to it using cache screen and listen
Most likely, the next couple of releases will contain only ui improvements, because it's far from ideal now. I understand the importance of cropping and saving fragments, but I believe that listening feature is more important
so this app just records all the time and when something that you could blackmail happens, you can go back and record it as a file?

ABSOLUTELY NO! The goal of the application is to give you a chance to analyze your life more deeply, to remember some words which was forgotten and to capture the great moments!
That's why i think the listening feature is more important than saving.
