htc evo lock screen changing - General Questions and Answers

is their a way to change the lock screen on the evo that actually works?

You can use Lockbot Pro to change it to whatever you would like. I'm not sure if you are asking for something a little more in depth with coding but then again, you did not say either way. Here is a vid of it running on the EVO. O use it on my HD2 (same hardware specs) and it works well

HTC Sense UI

I havnt purchased my HTC Pure yet but I do plan on getting one. In the meantime I was curious.
Is it possible to load the HTC Sense UI from the HTC HD2 and load it on the ATT Pure?
The HTC Sense UI im talking about is the one found in this youtube vid I found on Endgadget
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/08/htc-hd2-gets-itself-a-promo-video-and-a-website/#continued
You would need to flash this ROM
So would that particular rom be possible on the ATT Pure? Or would hardware differences prevent it from running like its being ran on the HD2
You should be able to flash it no problem but since the Hardware Keyboard on the Pure is different from all variants of the Diamond2 then you would have to find a cab or registry tweak to change keyboard layout.
Edit: The ROM is built for Diamond2 even though it's using packages from the HD2
Pure has no hardware keyboard
The pure doesn't have a hardware keyboard, and yes, there are numerous ROMs cooked by chiefs already that have the sense UI found in the HTC Leo (aka HD2). You just have to pick one and flash away
lol what was I thinking, yes at the time of my last posting I was thinking so much of the Tilt2 as I had just placed an order for it.

Yea, I have the Pure, but debating about returning it for the Tilt 2, if only for the larger screen space. But the camera on the Pure is really good compared to the Tilt 2 (5 MP vs. 3.2 MP). Oh, what to do????
it all bottoms down to whether you want a keyboard or not. if you have a phone i'm guessing you have a digital camera so you probably won't be using said phone to take studio quality photos, just quick snaps here and there. and the .4 inches in the screen also won't make a big deal. if you can type pretty well on the pure and what to save some money stick with the pure. if you are a person who prefers a physical keyboard and the price doesn't matter to you get the tilt 2.

If I could design my own phone...

Maybe this phone exists somewhere but if so, I haven't found it - and not for lack of searching. It all started with a 2007 Shadow. I loved the slim size and slide-out form factor, could live with WinMo if I had to but hated the 2.0 mp camera and non-touch screen.
I've tried the Incite, the Kaiser and currently use a G1 for day to day but none of them made me as happy as my Shadow. Part of it's because if I need to make a call I don't like the touch screen dialer. Another factor is the Blackberry-like keyboard arrangement on the Shadow - I really liked it. (I could never master texting using the usual numeric keys.) It's too cumbersome to pop out the G1 or Tilt keyboard, especially dealing with stupid automated phone systems.
I like HTC phones a lot because of the community but am beginning to wonder if somewhere out there is a phone better suited for me. I'd like to stay in the Android fold but does anyone have any suggestions? Has to be GSM and unlockable because I use a weird local carrier, too, although I might consider going back to Sprint (gag) for the perfect phone.

The Palm Pre might suit you...although there is always more to get out your device when you are running WinMo or Android on an HTC device. WebOS is fantastic but you're stuck with what they give you.

I played with a Pre at a local kiosk and was impressed by how nice it was but not enough better than the G1 to go back to Sprint. Now if the GSM version becomes more affordable and available, maybe...
Thanks,
Terry - now if I could just do a camera transplant on a touch dual
It would be something like this:
VGA 4" screen
From factor like HTC Universal
2ghz processor
1gb RAM
Hardware keyboard
Slim nice design
Made by HTC
A mix of Universal, Rhodium and Leo
I guess I have to wait till 2011 or 2012...
I remember reading that android was working quite well on the HTC Nike a while back. That's the same slide format as the shadow.

It is so very close, but I'm spoiled by the ability to do bar code scanning with the G1. AFAIK, the 2.0 cameras can't do that - which is why I made the comment about the camera transplant. I guess I could look into the port a little closer to see if they made it work or not.

Does anyone else hate Sense UI?

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this because it seems everyone around here is in love with Sense UI, but it drives me nuts. Especially that stupid Genius button. I now have to waste an entire row of my home screen with the Google search widget.
I...

Sense!
Seriously, I can't stand it. I LOVE the hardware on this phone but am thinking of returning it and buying something used and rootable so I can install a vanilla version of Android.
Despite the facts that I would never use the physical keyboard and would rather have the front facing camera and the faster processor, I almost bought the G2 just for the clean version of Android.
Just curious if anyone else feels this way. I swear, if I could just double the RAM on my original MT3G, I would be satisfied to overclock it to 614 or so and go on my merry way.
I feel your pain.
I'm not a fan of any UI overlays, they just don't seem to add much. Most of their features are already part of Android.
I'm leaning to purchasing the MT4G, just waiting for full root first. Pretty sure I'm going to drop some coins into the pot for the devs next pay day.
1. G2 and mt4g have simlar processors, just that the g2 is underclocked. So they are capable of the SAME SPEEDS.
2. Sense, especially expresso on the mytouch, is absolute garbage! Its so ugly I can't believe people actually like it. It looks waaay to much like an iphone...only uglier.
3. I honetly don't care about ffc, if I need to video chat, then I can just use the one on the back of the g2.
4. Keyboard on the g2 is brilliant. Add in the fact that it comes with swype makes it ridiculous. Sorry you don't like physical keyboards, but I absolutely love this one. By far one of the p-keyboards...ever.
5. Screen on the g2 is slcd, unlike the mt4g which has an absolutley crap screen, reminds me of the screen on the motorola cliq.
6. G2 is amazing, sorry you made the wrong choice, should def switch back

All good to know. I never said I don't like physical keyboards. In fact I really like the one on the G2.
I just don't think I'll end up using it because touchscreen typing is faster/easier for me.
It's ok. You can install another launcher to make it look different. The genius button, however, is a whole different matter. There is no way to override its behavior, so that really bothers me.
I hear you! I hate sense as well and it reminds me of Windows Mobile to much!!! I just use LauncherPro which is great!
I like it. I'd rather not see all the crazy widgets that it ships with however. I do like that it's prettier than stock Vanilla. I mean, I want to kill myself looking at some of the stock apps. I'd just as soon send them back to 2004. And, having that ugly Android robot thingy peeking out from the corner? Talk about tacky!
OK, flame away.

Are you kidding me? Sense, especially expresso, is one of the ugliest UI's I've ever seen. But if you like it....to each their own. I actually like what android was meant to look like. If I wanted that look I would have went with an iphone...

Stock android is boring and lacks the great builtvin features that HTC Sense has. The menus, widgets, and built in functionality name HTC Sense more fun to use for me. I doubt many of you G2 owners have even used a myTouch 4G. The UI is a lot more polished than stock android 2.2.

Well, coming from the Vibrant, I like it much better. The Vibrant's UI was little Fisher-Price for my tastes. This just seems a little more fresh, almost business-modern. Why does everyone come back to the iphone when this topic arises anyway? We're here to stay, so let's just drop the iphone comparison. There is almost unanimous agreement that the iOS offers one of the greatest UI experience bar none. It's too bad there are too many glaring omissions in its functionality. So, to compare this UI to the iphone's isn't a bad thing in my book. I mean, if this Android phone were encased in an iphone's garments, complete with a skin that looked exactly like the iphone's, I would be no more apt to go with an iphone. To suggest that you would points to your obsession with that device, no?
I understand that, hence why if you love the iphone UI, you should go get one. If you don't, stick to a UI that does not resemble iphone ie anything not sense...

Personally I like the functionality that expresso brings to the table. Its like an ugly girl that has a great package who gives a great blowjob in return atleast that's how I see it.

First, I don't even think this looks remotely like iOS, let's be reasonable. OK, perhaps a *tad* bit more than stock or TouchWiz. Secondly, I won't hide my affection for the iOS's UI. It's very nice. But, your reasoning still alludes me. Why "should I get one" if I like its UI only? Android is infinitely more customizable and inherently more powerful and scalable - not to mention, it's a lot more open-source-y. I make my decision based on the whole package, not simply a phone's UI. While important, it's not the end all. So, can we stop the whole childish "if you love the iphone UI, you should go get one" bit? Really. While it may not be apparent, you're giving the iphone more credit than it deserves by bringing it up in the context of an Android overlay.
Preference. Sense has a huge following and for good reason. Not just the widgets but browser functionality and mail pinch to zoom. The cut, c.c.p. and dictionary search, language translation is nice to have. If stock Android had the, desk clock, browser, mail pinch to zoom, FM radio, wifi calling, Flip weather clock, bookmark widget and ffc, I wouldn't mind vanilla. Just that HTC brings nice functionality that many of us prefer. All you have to do is venture over to Nexus development and check out Evil D's following and the EVO and DINC, Desire and you will pretty much see there is a huge market for the Sense UI. If you don't like it or think it is ugly then by all means have you some Cyanogen or Enom or MIUI. Coming on here crying about your preference is kinda lame and retarded.

Install launcher pro, and enjoy having the best of both worlds. The sense launcher sucks (in my opinion), and launcher pro gets rid of that problem. Then the things that the sense UI does better (like the lock screen) you still have. I hate sense, and after minor tweaks and mods, like my MT4G way better than my G2.

Mt4g sense is still running smart one, so you loose all that great ram while at the same time running launcherpro. Meaning a severe decrease is resources.

I have always been a vanilla Android fan, I always bought vanilla handsets and the OS updates, and stock features were more than enough for me.
However, I was open and gave mySense a shot on this phone and I have been impressed so far. The contacts, gallery, music, alarm clock and several other apps are so much more fully featured and integrated than I thought. Also, if you pick the right theme, widgets and wallpaper combination, the UI can really be beautiful. I think I would have a hard time going back to stock android now.
For example, I really miss having the vibrate slider on my lock screen like my Nexus had, but with this phone I get a seperate lock screen wallpaper for more customization and I can read text messages and emails on the lock screen. The trade off works for me.
Obviously it's a matter of personal preference, but bashing someone for liking a skin is idiotic. I have an iPod Touch, and I cannot stand iOS, I think it's hard to understand, boring and limited, but most of the world thinks it's the greatest OS on the planet. I don't bash iPhone owners for liking it. Like most things, you just have to have an open mind, give it a shot and maybe you will be surprised.
I prefer mySense now for what it can do, but I will jump to the next great handset in another year or so and be perfectly happy. If that phone happens to be vanilla or sense I have no idea, but I would be cool with either.
I don't mean to sound rude, but is installing Launcher Pro really that hard?
I'm just waiting to being able to install miui on this phone. Expresso sense is not THAT bad... i could do without some bloatware but it doesn't bother me much. I happily retired my nexus and traded in the bulky g2 for this phone.

bounty: qhd htc ime keyboard

im sorely missing this keyboard on my evo 3d and have not found any suitable replacements. ill throw in $20 if someone can update it to fit qhd devices, who else is willing to contribute?
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
for how much?
come on guys, we need more support!
Here is a link to thread about a modified HTC keyboard that might be what you were looking for. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
The OP wasn't too clear but select the 2.2 version to download
thanks, but that "high res" version is for wvga displays when the likes of the evo came out. itll work on qhd, but theres blank space on the right side of the keyboard because it has not been scaled to the new resolution
have you tried adjusting the key width and height settings within user interface of the htc ime settings?
I also vote for a qHD version, please!
Vote and Bump!
would love the htc ime keyboard for the sensation..another vote
iam with u guys! please make a update für qHD Displays. i have the htc evo 3d and dont want to use another keyboard then the IME MOD.
i would donate a few dollars too for the developer!!!
perfect keyboard, modify the layout and theme ?
perfect keyboard is pretty good, but there are several things that bug me about it to the point that i cant use it. for example, if i want a compound word that it doesnt know with most keyboards i can type in play, choose it, then type in ground and im good to go. with perfect keyboard i type in play, choose it, then start typing and it resumes trying to t9 the entire string instead of ignoring the first half that i already selected. basically kills typing in websites
oh yeah perfect keyboard is by xda, for.digit, which he is giving it free for another 2-3 days.
i bought it , got a refund today and gave him a 5 star for his hard work. its better than most of the things i've tried. maybe you can let him know about your problems
im sure its not going to cost you $20
thanks. i actually took him up on the offer last week, but with the refund you dont have rights to it which means that when i flashed a new rom id have to buy it/refund it again. i left him five stars anyway and ive talked to him a bit and plan to do so more, but for me the ime is perfect except for the resolution thing.
I know I am late...but can someone plz make a qHD version?? I tried the link posted above, I get a blank right side??
Anyhelp?
Vote and Bump! Please make version for qHD screen. I would donate!
Here is qHD version

[Q] Is there any way to make keyboard letters bigger?

The title explains it all, my mother is not able to see the letters in the keyboard clearly without her glasses. Is there any way to make them bigger?
Thanks.

I'm unclear how two different people apparently thought Android was being discussed here... but anyhow, the best option that I know of is simply to turn the phone to Landscape orientation (horizontal). The Landscape keyboard buttons are quite a bit bigger (although that also means the keyboard takes up most of the screen).
Alternatively, get a phone with a bigger screen? Even with the same resolution, a large-display phone like the HD7, Lumia 900, or Titan will be easier to read for those with poorer eyesight.

do you realize that this is the Windows Phone 7 section, and not android???
Not that I'm aware of. The binary that implements the keyboard could be hacked to make the button and/or text bigger, but it would take a fair amount of work and you'd only be able to use in on a custom ROM.

DUh! why people are so blur?
Anyway to the qn asked by the threadstarter, yes it may be possible but it take significant amount of work and not easy way as registry edit , probably u need to cook a new rom with the new keybaord and flash to yr phone
Some custom roms such as nextgen+ already did custom emoticons ( coloured) in their rom
