Hi, can anyone recommend me headphones with decent sound quality, microphone and controls on a lead (stop / pause, forward, back, i.e. like on stock ones)?
Eh, and those which won't rip off the budget.
Many thanks!

not found any that were compatable in my searching sorry mate, in the end i got a htc set with just a 1 button control.
There is a huge thread in the general part of the forum. Monster Diddy Beats works with everything but volume.
Try looking here. Maybe not the full controls, but some mic'ed options are there.
I personally use the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi, which has a mic and a single button. If you get PowerAMP, you can click for pause/play, double click for Next song, and triple click for Previous song.

Hi,
Thanks for the link! I am in a competition now! Hope you will send me my prize to the UK.
List is good, but unfortunately, for neither of those I see option to switch tracks with special buttons. I use Astro player (got a special key from developer as I helped them a lot at 4pda.ru), so PowerAMP & single button is not an option for me. 8-(

V-MODA headphones with the three-button remote control put you in control of your music, allowing you to answer /end calls, play or pause your music. Plus, if you’re using an Apple product, you can control the volume or skip forwards and backwards through your songs and videos.
is volume and next/prev track also working for v-moda Vibe II?
I'm using Sony DR-BT101 with my Desire.
It's wireless, but that's really convenient. It's got a mic and all the controls, and it's not very expensive.

no diy stuff for bluetooth... maybe some day someone will make somethin for the market...
There has to be a media player that has a built in preamp
Boostaroo is a decent headphone inline amplifier I use in my rigged aux in for my car... SRSWow would be the plugin I recommend for Android development most (currently on my Fuze).. It clears the mids and provides better seperation and clarity.
SRSWOW FTW!
most recent HTC windows phone always come with the AUDIO BOOSTER once u plug in a headphone but i dont know if other androids by HTC has any.my recent retired HTC HD2 had one and it was really working out for me.

audio player with eq... expensive and from the reviews, the music play sucks but the EQ is solid

sorry guys those files r not compatible with the supersonic.i tried the beta half of the screen was missing.lookin forward to a 100% working audio tweaks for the supersonic hopefully someday.
check out astro player. there's a file, in the nexus forums i believe. it has an equalizer, definitely helps for mp3s. it's subtle, but it's something. i may also check out the modified sound files vinny posted (his 2nd link).
I wonder if we could improve the audio quality by combining the kernel source from this thread: {KERNEL-SOURCE} GoDmOdE-EVO-2.6.29 {Make Shift Kernel} http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686240&page=7
with the patch from this announcement: Audio Mod for the Nexus One! http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/archives/182

I know there is a DSP manager app, but that is not sounding that great. The reason I say this is that recently I gave up Droid X. The X had presets built into the music player for bass, 3D and stuff which made the same songs sound a lot better on the X than Droid 1.
I have tried some settings on Droid 1 in DSP Manager but they are nowhere near the quality of the X.
So does anybody have any other suggestions ?
Audio Quality..
I thought the same thing about the music sounding a bit flat. I installed the Power Amp player and am much happier now. It has a lot more customization controls, so you can add more bass if you want.
MixZing has an equalizer as well.
Try PowerAmp app From Market

+1 to PowerAMP its amazing and has tons of presets and you can also make your own.
3rd on PowerAmp..nothing else like it Even plays music ripped from streaming well.
HTC's new senseUI (in Desire Z and HD) has a DSP Manager app that has an equalizer as well. 3 different settings for Headphones, BT and speaker.
Maybe that could be ported for other phones as well?
And no, it doesn't improve quality, a better set of headphones will do that.

PowerAMP is really amazing but I use volume+ now because it affects the every audio app (nice for streaming apps).
Just note that on any eq, you may notice some distortion in the sound. This is especially true if using bass boost and applies to any form of eq.

This might be not too related to the topic, but..
I rarely ever use equalizers for the sole reason that the songs are already mixed how the artists intended the songs to sound. I used to abuse EQ like hell when I was younger and maxed bass and treble on everything I listened to. When I turned it off I suddenly noticed small quirks and new guitars in the background, just details that I couldn't hear before because the bass overpowered everything.
Just something to think about.
Hi guys, any audiophiles here like me?
This music player has terrible interface. Basic functions doesn't work too well. BUT!!!
OMG the sound quality of this player is mind blowing. I really mean it. SGS and voodoo is known for it's SQ. However, despite it sounds clear, the sounds is not precise and out of place by an inch. Was a voodoo + equalizer app + poweramp fan and still am cuz of interface but i can forsee an android music player to better poweramp! Assuming this music player gets developed nicely. Give it a try guys and if you like the SQ, show dev some support just by rating etc.

does indeed sound good but I feel Power Amp sounds just as good as it. both these sound better than Winamp and Ttpod but jt is just so ugly and unresponsivd too. button presses most times dont work, setting up a playlist on first start sucks as it just does not acction button presses and if you minimise program then go back to it it changes song automatically. good sound quality though, sorry, only positive i can think of. using Xperia MiUi 2.2.1

I suppose sound is very subjective and also depends on the headphones you use as well the phone you use. On SGS, neutron definitely widens soundstage with better sound separation whilst keeping the sound crisp and clear. Sure poweramp is clear but the sound is everywhere. Also with that filtering of highest frequency on neutron, the sound feels very calm to listen to as well as having the "fun" sound from general boost the app gives to SQ.
However as you said and as i said on OP sq is the only pro atm but any audiophiles would (or should ) use it just for that reason like i do

will give this another try i guess, was happy with the sound, using earphones that came with my old Sony. Ericsson w980, very strong sound from them. sound is great from the player but to purchase would be nice to know there is refinement of the ui planned. cheers
Another "good sound, bad UI" app is Rockbox. It has not been announced as "useable" yet, but many reports that it works fine. And I think it has more sound tweaking features than Neutron. It would be interesting to hear an audiophiles comparison between these two.

As a virgin Android (almost) user...
I am curious about the music player aspect. I made a post enquiring about the use of after market headphones (like Sennheiser) for iPod, being able to use the inline controller - but it seems that has limited success.
Are there players that have track advance by 'shake' or something else that doesn't require you to take it out and turn it on/off etc. to simply change tracks..?
Any insight appreciated.

I googled around and found out that the music controls work on some android phones so maybe it has to do with the drivers/manufacturers?

Yep I use the Klipsch Image S4i (made for iPods, which I use with my iPod) and only the play/pause works. That's because it's made for iPods/iPhones. There's an alternate android version available.
If a music app support headset control then yes those headphones should work. So it depends on the app.
For example, the headphones that come with the MT4G had rewind/play pause/forward buttons which worked on the phone with any music app but those buttons don't work at all on my G2x, unless the app supports it.
