Hi guys, any audiophiles here like me?
This music player has terrible interface. Basic functions doesn't work too well. BUT!!!
OMG the sound quality of this player is mind blowing. I really mean it. SGS and voodoo is known for it's SQ. However, despite it sounds clear, the sounds is not precise and out of place by an inch. Was a voodoo + equalizer app + poweramp fan and still am cuz of interface but i can forsee an android music player to better poweramp! Assuming this music player gets developed nicely. Give it a try guys and if you like the SQ, show dev some support just by rating etc.

Type neutron in search and it will come up.
I checked this out last week, but just couldn't stand the UI and layout of it... If it had more polish and a neater/more attractive UI I would use it.

does indeed sound good but I feel Power Amp sounds just as good as it. both these sound better than Winamp and Ttpod but jt is just so ugly and unresponsivd too. button presses most times dont work, setting up a playlist on first start sucks as it just does not acction button presses and if you minimise program then go back to it it changes song automatically. good sound quality though, sorry, only positive i can think of. using Xperia MiUi 2.2.1

I suppose sound is very subjective and also depends on the headphones you use as well the phone you use. On SGS, neutron definitely widens soundstage with better sound separation whilst keeping the sound crisp and clear. Sure poweramp is clear but the sound is everywhere. Also with that filtering of highest frequency on neutron, the sound feels very calm to listen to as well as having the "fun" sound from general boost the app gives to SQ.
However as you said and as i said on OP sq is the only pro atm but any audiophiles would (or should ) use it just for that reason like i do

will give this another try i guess, was happy with the sound, using earphones that came with my old Sony. Ericsson w980, very strong sound from them. sound is great from the player but to purchase would be nice to know there is refinement of the ui planned. cheers
Another "good sound, bad UI" app is Rockbox. It has not been announced as "useable" yet, but many reports that it works fine. And I think it has more sound tweaking features than Neutron. It would be interesting to hear an audiophiles comparison between these two.

I was wondering if anybody found an Equalizer for android by now.
Would love to fine tune the sound of the song on my phone!
Yes interested in this too, love to be able to adjust the stereo balance, seem to be going slightly deaf in one ear.
The only thing I'm aware of is meltus' audio hack. It replaces the equalizer with one for higher volume, but he's released a few and suggests which work best for certain genres. I know it's not quite what you're looking for but you might find it useful. This does require a rooted phone.
I have seen two or three eq in the app store, but I am not sure if its available in your local.
A bit late, but I know this has been bugging me, so incase anyone else comes here looking, Astro Player does have equalizer (don't forget to check 'use equalizer' at the top before using the sliders). app is free with ads, $3 without them.
My Milestone has an builtin app to set the equaliser type like Bass Extreme, Bass Punch, etc. the bass is actually greatly enhanced!

Tell us more about this app. What is it's name for example?
I'm reviving this thread in the hopes that someone knows of an app that will allow me to balance the left and right channels on all stereo sound coming from the headphone jack. Failing that, any music/video player that has a balance control would be great.
Anyone know of one?
Thanks!

Bought the pay version but couldn't find the left /right balance control. Is it In the EQ area?
CyanogenMod 6 has a built in app called "DSP Manager" that lets you set EQ and dynamics (compression) for 3 profiles: headset, phone speaker and bluetooth.
I haven't really tested it but it looks pretty impressive. I'm not sure if it's available outside of CM6 or not.
Not sure if this helps being new to this. I tried audioplayerwitheq platinum on the HTC Desire which gives eq plus seperate left and right volume ajustment. Not the friendliest player though. Anyone know of a better one? Hope this helps you dc41
i hope someone port AudioBooster (WM) for Android

I know there is a DSP manager app, but that is not sounding that great. The reason I say this is that recently I gave up Droid X. The X had presets built into the music player for bass, 3D and stuff which made the same songs sound a lot better on the X than Droid 1.
I have tried some settings on Droid 1 in DSP Manager but they are nowhere near the quality of the X.
So does anybody have any other suggestions ?
Audio Quality..
I thought the same thing about the music sounding a bit flat. I installed the Power Amp player and am much happier now. It has a lot more customization controls, so you can add more bass if you want.

+1 to PowerAMP its amazing and has tons of presets and you can also make your own.
3rd on PowerAmp..nothing else like it Even plays music ripped from streaming well.
HTC's new senseUI (in Desire Z and HD) has a DSP Manager app that has an equalizer as well. 3 different settings for Headphones, BT and speaker.
Maybe that could be ported for other phones as well?
And no, it doesn't improve quality, a better set of headphones will do that.

Just note that on any eq, you may notice some distortion in the sound. This is especially true if using bass boost and applies to any form of eq.

This might be not too related to the topic, but..
I rarely ever use equalizers for the sole reason that the songs are already mixed how the artists intended the songs to sound. I used to abuse EQ like hell when I was younger and maxed bass and treble on everything I listened to. When I turned it off I suddenly noticed small quirks and new guitars in the background, just details that I couldn't hear before because the bass overpowered everything.
Just something to think about.

Try them with voodoo sound ! Really good sound!
I agree, the headphones included are pretty much trash, compared with my CX870 they sound terrible. I know these are expensive, but any good headphones for about 20-40$ will sound better and probably last longer. I'm in love with sennheiser, the cx200 can be found for 20$ and they sound really good too for the price.
Yes !! the Effect is really good when used in Power AMP, but when compared to my Nokia N8 ear phones, its bad.
I also have a i9000 phone and its earphones look identical as the provided by the i9103. Except for the jack, which stripes are white instead of black. The i9000 ones sound way better that the i9103.
They are also incompatible, I mean, I can't swap them. Using Voodoo on both phones.
I know that this topic has been discussed before. I have tried the voodoo app and i have bought it. It just seems to make the sound even worse. I believe the culprit is dsp manager. So here Is what happens, I usually keep my volume 2-3 notches below the highest volume. I am using the acoustic preset on dsp manager with the bass slightly higher. If I go 2-3 notches above my normal volume, the sound gets really crackely and choppy. I tried the same song, but with the same preset but with even more bass on my sansa and it sounded crystal clear and really powerful even at higher volumes. Can someone suggest a fix. I am running HFP 2.1 and Faux's kernel.
Edit: I am also running beats audio from like march. And I'm using the google play music app

Sent from my LG-G2x using Tapatalk 2
The first thing you need to do is remove the beats audio as it does nothing for the sound. Voodoo sound is much better as long as you have a kernel that has it built in. PowerAMP is one of the best equaliser apps out there for android but the overall sound quality coming from the G2x is not that good and will never be that good without better hardware.

I agree to disagree. Yes, get rid of beats. It didnt anything when I used it. Ditch google music its crap (intended for those of us who enjoy music? I think not.) I use PlayerPro (paid) with treble/bass booster preset with the bass knob almost all the way up. No matter how loud I make it, it kicks ass.
I'm also running RG2x MIUI with Faux kernel. Cleanest, smoothest, and all around best MIUI. Sorry Stormageddon. I used yours and my phone kept freezing. Not your fault, I know this. My phone just doesnt seem to like your roms. Or MIUI.us or Singh-MIUI's either for that matter. RG2x is the only one I can get to run with FC'ing a FC.
I use Winamp pro in conjunction with DSP manager and get GREAT sound (especially from FLAC ) I disable the EQ in DSP manager, Compression - Slight, Bass Boost - Slight, and depending on what I am listening to I will adjust Virtual Room. Everything else in DSP manager OFF. Then, in Winamp I use the Awesome 10 band EQ to adjust the sound to my liking.
I've been using winamp lately, but it still cannot drive my headphones as well as my sansa. Probably just the ****ty audio hardware from LG.
Also how do I get rid of beats audio?

The actual hardware that is in the LG G2x is the same Wolfson DAC that is in the iPod touches and the iPhones. That DAC is really not that good especially for an audiophile. I never use my phone for music, and yes I only listen to FLAC or better and have a complete Sennheiser setup. I have tried making the audio better with an amp but even that just made the quality barely noticeably better. The quality is not that good and will never be that good.

I did't create this app. I was using PowerAmp for years since I bought it but gave this app a try and noticed a significant improvement in audio quality so this is just to raise awareness
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neutroncode.mp&hl=en
Has features like 64bit processing that PowerAmp doesn't have. The UI is a little clunky but I personally feel the sound quality more than makes up for it. It sounds great even with the included earphones that came with the G2. There's also a evaluation version to try it out. Try it out and leave your comments!:good:
OMG I hate the UI in that player so much so it can be all the things in the world I want but I still wouldn't use it. I've tried several times to become friends with it but I just can't. I've moved on. I hate it that much.

I agree. The UI leaves a lot to be desired but I suppose it's the sacrifice one has to make to use the best sounding player on the Play store. Though one might argue for a paid app, there should be no sacrifices.
If they remake the UI sometime I will definitely give it another try.

Neutron supposedly the engines are all about quality at the sacrifice of efficiency (high CPU usage) and the UI is horrid. I played with it a bit, but at the time I only had mp3's of average 180kbit bitrate and I couldn't hear a significant difference so I went back to PlayerPro which isn't horrid to use.
And people, mods that make things louder don't make them better.
