Ok. So I was going to flash back to stock and it froze during the install. After I pulled the batterybi get nothing but a black screen. Not even a charging icon when plugged in. I have bricked it before but always had something come up on the screen and was able to unbrick. Long story short the home button was giving me issues anyway so I shipped it to samsung. What do you guys think? I a, sure they will be able to get into some sort of diagnostics mode and see I have been jacking with roms???? Do you think they will charge me for a new motherboard? Oh well just needed to share please don't flame. It should be at the repair center Friday. I will let you knownthe progress.
They should be able to tell that you were flashing ROMs on the phone. I've read stories of phones being replaced under warranty for no-charge at first, and then customers getting like a $500 on their cell bill a few months later after Samsung figured out the phones bricked during a ROM flash.
500? Seriously? Or are you just screwing with the newb don't mind paying a 100 or so, but 500 is a bit steep.
MSRP/No commitment pricing is $500.
I find it pretty hard to believe that a stealth charge of $500 would show up months after the fact.
There should always be the option to decline the service due to a charge and it should be stated explicitly before a single dollar changes hands.
I'd like to see some sort of proof or reference to someone getting charged like that, otherwise......screenshot or it didn't happen.

I'll be damned if im going to search through the hundreds of "i bricked my captivate" threads for when I remember reading about that but i've seen it mentioned a few times.
Honestly though, i just pay the $5 a month for the insurance. I figure if I am jacking with flashing the phone and I brick it, $125 is a small price to pay to replace it. Not to mention, its my fault, not samsungs.

If I had time, I'd dig up those references for you. I guess my point is this, if you try to make a warranty claim on a bricked phone deliberately withholding some of the facts as to why it was bricked in the first place, you are potentially leaving the door open for ATT to stick you with the bill. By all means this isn't something that's going to happen every time, but I'd just like to share that the possibility is out there...that's all!
Never asked for a replacement, but your right I didn't tell all the truth Don't mind them billing me, I just want the flakey home button fixed. If it's excess of 150 I will probably just have them scrap it and ask them to bill me for the shipping cost they incurred I would gladly pay more if I knew I would have a working gps but still have my trusty backup iPhone 4. By the way I payed full unsubsidized price for the phone. They received it already I will let you know how it unfolds.
I returned my phone today and they gave me a new one. I just got the phone off ebay so there is no way they can bill me for 500 bucks. I told the guy this and he took it back saying it was under warranty.
They cant just stealth charge you 500 bucks. Especially when they dont ask you at the counter when you returned the phone.
Well its fixed and has been shipped. Hats off to samsung for the quick turnaround. Shipped it to them Wednesday and it was repaired and returned Saturday. I should have it Monday or Tuesday. Maybe the fixed the GPS
A decent amount of dust has showed up in a spot about 1/2 inch from the very top at the edge top right corner of the screen. Since I purchased the phone at Walmart they said talk to TMO or HTC. I called TMO and they told me dust under the screen doesn't seem to qualify as "manufacture defects" so they wont exchange it for me there, they said call HTC. I call HTC and they fill me in on all the details associated with the repair process etc.. My question is this: why am I responsible for shipping charges on a manufacture defect? On top of that, if they don't deem unwarrantable then I am charged a $39 or less triage fee.... Why am I also gonna be out of a phone for the next 6-10 days without compensation?
I just don't understand the logic behind this. Anyone have any advice, or explanation?
Thanks,
Joseph

No dust under my screen I'm sure shipping will not cost much...be sure to get INSURANCE. Have you tried simply exchanging the device for another one at Walmart?

I am sure shipping wont be costly, its just I don't see how or why I should have to pay for it. And Walmart after 15 days from purchase wont touch it, or so they are telling me?
If I go in and complain, while still being respectful or course, do you think Walmart or TMO will exchange it?

I meant shipping insurance just in case USPS/FEDEX/UPS loses the package. I live in Charlotte, NC and there are a bunch of Walmart's here. I would clean up the phone really good and try to return it even if it's for store credit and then drive to another Walmart and purchase a new Sensation with the store credit. Did you buy it full retail price or did you do a contract? If you did a contract then you are out of luck with store credit because it wouldn't be enough to purchase a new phone. Otherwise you could call TMO and ask for a warranty exchange and tell them the phone won't power on. They will ship you a new unit and you would just mail back the current unit. I have done a warranty exchange a million times.
Yeah I realized what you meant by insurance after I responded. I bought it on contract, and its past Walmart's 14-day return policy so they might not take to that so much lol. I have done a few in the past with TMO over the phone without any problems and a few in-store as well, as I have always purchased them through the store. I just might have to try TMO over the phone again and get them to send me one like you suggested. Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it.

That's the best way to get them to respond quick TELL THEM THE DEVICE WON'T POWER ON. They will then ask you to verify that the sticker under the battery is still white and then they will ship you a phone. Make sure you call from a phone different from your Sensation i.e a land line LOL and you will be ok.
That's weird. When the Nexus One's had issues with dust getting under the screen the problem was fixed for free assuming you hadn't rooted the device.
I know I personally had a rooted device get dust, cost 100 if I recall to have it fixed. Happened again in a week and they didn't make me pay for shipping or anything to send it back again.
I've had my shift since feb. Rooted since day one.
Phone works, keyboard works, speakers work, everything works. Battery seems to drain faster, but hell, its a year old and gets used extensively.
I have the $8 insurance thing through them since day one. Never once used it.
My phone has been dropped more times than a $10 crack whore. Dented, scratched, chipped, etc. But as I said, all works.
Do you guys think sprint would replace it with a new phone under the insurance plan? Has anyone done this? Does it have to be broken to be replaced? Does the deductable apply? Should I try to replace it in a sprint store, radio shack, or does it have to be done via phone/snailmail?

If the phone is still in good working order, cosmetic damage will not get you a replacement. Unless that damage is to the screen ( cracked screen ) . If your screen is just scratched they will not do it. As for a good place to try and possibly get a replacement. I would try the Sprint Authorized Repair CenterIt's where when I've had an issue with my phone It's been resolved every time. But experiences vary a lot from what I've heard.
Or if you really want a new phone just throw it on the floor till it does break and say someone tried stealing it and it fell in the middle of the street while a car ran over it
Find a friend at a sprint store and have them send you a REPLACEMENT. ASURION IS A LAST RESORT.
Thanks guys. I don't know if there's a repair center around here, but I'll check.
As far as the "accident", I've considered many options. Such as a drop in the potty during #2... and bringing it to the store in a bag with poo attached. Bet I wouldn't even have to unroot!!!
I will probably try the replacement path first. The salesman I used was a straight up guy, or seemed to be. I may take a ride up to huntsville this weekend and see if he still works there. Hopefully.
I guess I'm foolish for not knowing, but the insurance that comes from a true sprint store, is that assurion? I thought it was something they handled directly. I guess the confusion comes from different posts I've seen here. Didn't one of you guys break hinges a while back and get a new phone? What was your situation as far as sprint, insurance, etc.?
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
Well the cofusion usually comes from Sprint spliting up what they do " in house " , vs what they call an " insurance claim ". Although from my understanding if you do not have T.E.P. , then you cannot make an insurance claim. They do have guide lines, but I've seen different stores interperate them differently. The biggest thing IMO is that if they do not resolve the problem in house ( at the repair center / store ) then they try and make it an insurance claim. You then have to contact Insurian, that realy sucks. Because then you most times end up paying the deductable, which is now $100 .
my earpiece went out last saturday. i brought it to a repair center and they kept it for a few hours. They told me they couldn't fix it, so they ordered me a new one, but it was on backorder and didn't know when it will be in. Been calling everday and a no go.

updated reply from me: DO NOT REPLACE YOUR ORIGINAL PHONE IF THE ONLY PROBLEM IS COSMETIC DAMAGE.
I have swapped 3 Evo Shifts already. I speak from experience. I actually sent the last replacement back because the microphone did not work properly.
I was told I cannot exchange my Xperia Z3 at a store even if I ordered there because it came by mail. Call TMO customer care and tell them to cross ship you a new one. They will ask if you want warranty or new one. Say you want brand new, if they ask for $50 restocking refuse it like I did and they will agree after a few mins. They will refund your tax charge and charge it again as a fresh order.
Having said that, it is on backorder at TMO, waiting for tracking still. I re ordered a new one yesterday.
Just wanted to let people know so they do not get charged extra or get a refurbished device.
Why did you want to exchange it? What was wrong?

I had severe light bleed at night on right side in intervals along the frame, and frame was slightly indented towards the display near the power button.

Called T-Mobile, the box it came in was all dented up and the bottom corner of the phone is raised up. Also have an issue with terrible battery life and calls just failing constantly ( I live in a total LTE area for T-Mobile)
They are overnighting me a new one after I called support, got transferred 3 times but was within my "buyers remorse period" so I will be sent a brand new phone.
Got a confirmation that the re-order was processed just waiting on shipping info.

Good you got that over with, I just gave mine to UPS and returned home. I had to calmly argue with the lady rep on TMO for like 5 minutes to forgoe stocking charges as its not our fault if a brand new device is defective. She talked to her manager said they would waive it. Make sure to check on that.

They can do cross shipping, meaning they will send you one before you send yours, however the phone is on backorder again so you will have to ship yours out otherwise you will get double charged if it does not reach in time. This is because it is considered a return and repurchase.
I called and the lady was very nice ( a first) She said that she would send me and email with the new phone info within 24 hours and that she understood my frustration. She also said that they would change me the taxes for the new phone but credit me the taxes for the first one No mention of a restocking fee or the phone being backordered. So lets hope TMo doesn't find a way to screw this one up!

Overnight shipping charge, I got that too.
To all shipping phones back to t-mobile. Make sure you keep all tracking info. You should also add insurance. I returned an iphone 6 plus a month ago and they still have not found it. I am arguing with them on the eip which they charge me monthly even though i do not have the phone. Again, make sure you track add insurance and signature before shipping back.

so things to look out for are...

- purple/Bad/Noisy Camera Performance
- red spot on Camera
- cosmetic damage
...anything else?

I am sending back the original phone I pre-ordered. TMO sent me a shipping label and all I have to do is drop it off at UPS. Instead of having them ship me a new one I just went into the store and bought a new one. They will refund me the charges of the first phone when they receive it in the mail. What I noticed in doing this however is that the phone I purchased in store was of much better quality. The cosmetics of the phone were seamless, no light leaks, no purple camera and the battery seems to last WAY longer than it did on the one I pre-ordered. This makes me wonder if TMO rushed manufacturing the Pre-order devices and that is why there are so many issues with them? Either way, I am SOO happy I went and bought a new one in store. It's fabulous!!

Ive been in multiple stores to replace my T-Mobile S7 but the guys keep giving me a hard time to do so. I dont have insurance on the phone, Ive had poor battery life and bad pixel burn in as my issues they say it can be replaced they just keep pushing me away from doing so. Im the customer and I just want a replacement. I havent had this issue until the whole Note 7 fiasco. Let me know if you guys expierence similar issues...
You have to go through Samsung. Unless the devices 15 days or fewer from the time you purchased it from T-Mobile they ain't going to do anything.

Imagine that. They have had to replace so many "flagship devices" that its on backorder even though it has been out for like 6 months.
They actually sold a lot of s7 devices and s7 edge due to the replacement of note 7 models and as well promotions recently where they bought one s7, got one free.

If you are outside of the 15days and dont have insurance then it's not T-Mobile place to replace contact Samsung. Next time just pay the exter for insurance can't get mad at them for following rules and your lack of common sense since you got a 700$ device with no insurance

He also told me it was funny that they are on backorder though he heard that Samsung is focusing production on them. I also asked if they are the people to go to in this situation, he said and I didn't even know "the phone has a 1 year warranty". I completely forgot and I didn't know that they covers stolen devices and other damage other than cracks and water.

That's actually 100% false. T-Mobile gives you a 1 year warranty with the device, and calling tech support will get you a replacement for $20, or $5 if you have jump/insurance. (Jump/Insurance also keeps the warranty going past 1 year)

You're the one without common sense. The 15 day rule is if you aren't happy with the phone... That could be because it's defective, or you don't like it. Your carrier still provides a 1 year warranty. I've been in to stores 11, 6,5 months after purchase with a truly defective phone and the carrier replaced it every time. My store has a service center and it probably has to be a corporate store. Without one you need to call your carrier. They won't give you a new phone off the sales floor shelf (unless within 15 days) they have stock specifically for warranty exchange, most of the time they are factory refurbs, sometimes new, yet I could never tell the difference . They might not have it in stock but will order it. Normally you can pay $20 extra for overnight shipping (AT&T) Most recently was only exception as far as in store replacement . My s7 edge had a messed up home button. Also had a scratch on the screen. Local store said Samsung would probably reject the warranty due to the scratch. I left, called 611 and had a new phone the next day.
Edit: I've experienced this with 2 carriers, AT&T and Sprint. Both corporate stores. Joe Blow who has a franchise store wont replace it. The franchise store told me the same old BS that i had to call manufacturer (samsung) Calling your carrier seems to be the easiest way in most cases.
