[Q] Pricing through retentions - myTouch 4G General

Has anyone ordered their phone through the Retentions department? What kind of price did you get?

watching this i havent upgraded in 35 months so they better get me a killer deal to keep me

I got my G2 for $150 (wasn't even eligible for upgrade)
I imagine one can get the same deal for Mt4G. I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow if my return goes tghrough by tghat time (sent it back on 18th, tghey still don't have it in the system)

what does everyone think retentions will do if i call them about this

125 is a killer deal. no tax. free shipping. I dont want to pay that upgrdae fee though

It depends on how long you have been with them. I was able to get them to sell me the Vibrant for $100 + $20/month unlimited data plan. I then submitted $50 rebate for Vibrant, so grand total of $50.
Now I had them swap out the Vibrant for MT4G for free (had problems with Vibrant).
YMMV

All-in with express shipping - $119.95. Also got unlimited $30 plan for $20. Was eligible for upgrade (not locked in).

Alright, i've never heard of the Retention department. How the hell are you guys getting that cheap price for the MT4g? Espeically that screenshot, where on the tmobile site is that?

Do not think it is a TMo internet page - had to call (661 is free) and asked for the cancellation/customer retention department.
Screen-shot may be from Account page after the order (?).

I'm probably going to call Tmobile later on. I wonder if i come at Tmobile with a cheap price for a phone, and threaten to cancel so i can open a new account somwhere else, if they'll match the price.

I did not go directly after the phone prices - complained about being forced to change data plan and mentioned leaving. They offered the price along with the reduced price on the plan.
Just call them. Note - the discontinue services option on the automated phone system gets you to retention - same people....

I actually have been dealing with some bull**** from them recently. I've had a Sidekick LX 09 on my family plan. I had to have it warranty swapped 2 or 3 times. But Tmobile states they only have records of one time.
Their reasoning behind this is that if there is water damage, and if you have to pay the $100 replacement, the phone gets sent from a different distributor and Tmobile doesnt have records of that...that is bull****.
I've been a service holder for 14 months. I've been given an 18 month upgrade discount but that doesnt really cut it...still pretty high.

I was browsing around, and Wirefly has this phone for cheap.
$80 with a 2 year contract.

On the phone with Tmobile right now.. Had the vibrant for the past 4 months. Purchased Vibrant out of contract for $500, and did the 20 payments with no interest plan. I called and complained that the Vibrant is laggy, I've returned it 3 times..and would like a different phone. They asked which phone, I told them the MT4G. First they wanted me to pay $100.. my silence to their request turned into a t-mo counteroffer of no charge. Without committing to a new contract they are sending me a new MT4G - I also keep the Vibrant. Only one catch, I finish paying off the vibrant over the next 17 months(which I was obligated to do anyhow).
Thanks tmobile!

Didn't do as good as $119, but got it for $149 and free shipping thru retentions. Also got to keep my G1 $25 unlimited internet with 400 text messages. I don't do a lot of texts.
Overall I'm happy with this deal. My main priority was not to loose my internet plan and to get the phone without a rebate hassle.

well holy ****. i think i need to call these people!

I don't believe you because if they will give you a replacement then they will take your phone back.
only way i will believe your story if you have documents to prove it else you should take your BS somewhere else because people here do not like to make or hear stupid stories

then I bet you also won't believe I was the first person to come up with the first GPS fix for the Vibrant using the *#*#1472365#*#* pattern, and changing the AGPS settings including SUPL server and port? I have evidence to back that up too. I'm no troll, fool. I asked what they would like me to do with the Vibrant, and he said "keep it, you've had it over 30 days.. you're getting a free phone". Yeah, much like you I didn't believe either. But I'm not paying anything additional, and it will be on my doorstep by Friday.

on the phone with retentions got it for 125 and 20 data expressed shipping. Plus they lowered my messaging to 10 bucks a month for my 3 lines and dropped my sisters 10 dollar internet to 5 bucks a month
so im a happy customer. beats going through wirefly and their weird agreements

well ive been with tmo for about 9 years now and have 2 lines not under contract. so they didnt want to lose me. i hadnt upgraded my line in about 35 months.
i told them about my plan and messaging and my sisters dumb phone internet and she just started knocking things down to keep me
she initially offered the phone for 150 but i mentioned the wirefly deal and she said she wasnt going to lose me for 25 bucks
so i took it. All in all my bill ended up going down 5 bucks. So im happy. I get good tmo coverage in Miami and im starting grad school her in June so i wont be traveling much.
I went in this morning and played wiht the phone for about 15 mins unrestricted (well no internet) and it was nice and snappy (i had an EVO for 30 days but went back to tmo) i liked how it felt in my hand and being a photographer i did actually like the camera (minus HTCs inability to get good audio recording)

[email protected] has officially launched

T-Mobile's [email protected] service has launched nationwide. The service enables users to make calls on Wi-Fi networks and to transition calls to and from T-Mobile's GSM network. There is NO additional monthly cost to enjoy improved coverage. All you need is a [email protected] (UMA) handset, a broadband internet connection and a Wi-Fi router. All [email protected] phones are support B and G. The T-Mobile branded Linksys/D-link routers offer 4 benefits over using your personal router.
Improved handset battery life when making Wi-Fi calls.
Voice Priority for voice data over other network traffic.
Tech Support can access your router for troubleshooting.
Get Security Key button allows for simple sharing of the password.
You can also add on an extra feature for $19.99 (single line) or $29.99 (shared plan) for UNLIMITED domestic calling for all calls initiated on Wi-Fi - even T-Mobile US HotSpot locations. These features are currently offered on a temporary promotion for $9.99 and $19.99 respectively.
This product should prove to be HUGE for anyone with in-home coverage issues or for people who make a lot of calls from home.
would the IP feature in the new 06 roms be able to be used with this new feature
WHY....I'll tell ya...!
It's a plot to get you to pay more for poor service.
PROs
1. "crickets in the background"
CONs
1. Most people work so they're not home between 8 & 6which leaves you 3 hours to use it.
2. To use it, you have to buy a piece of $#!+ phone.
3. How much will you talk in 3 hours...use your home phone.
Solution....switch carriers...!
I won't disclose my experience with T-Mobile but I was with them for over 5 years.
I switched to AT&T; the same device works totally different...better that is!

to each his own. I have the complete opposite experience. I love t-mobile. they are by far the cheapest. I have never dropped a call with them. the calls are loud and clear. I have signal everywhere I want to go. customer service has been great and my bill is always correct.
with at&t, the max a phone call would make it would be 5 minutes before it dropped. within that 5 minutes it would cut in and out bad. i had full signal. I tried about 40 different phone models so it was definitely the service of at&t. not once did they get my bill right in the time I had them. customer service and tech support was awful.
this @home service is a great service. for those that don't get good signal or no signal at a certain location, they can get this. you can use your existing wi-fi router. it costs nothing to use it if you just want it to deduct your minutes. or you pay a whopping $10 per line ($20 per family plan) to have UNLIMITED calls while using it. it will seamlessly move back and forth between wi-fi and GSM without dropping the call or anything. Sure there are only two phones out now with it but it just came out. give it some time and a lot of phones will be compatible with it. your argument about use your home phone is dumb because a lot of people don't have a home phone and/or they would prefer to just use one number for people to contact them with.
I also have no plans of leaving T-mo. ...................... best customer service ever and I have no problems with service, besides a few months back when I moved to a different local and I had no service at my new house ............... I called and complained so the nice rep. gave me 300 bonus min. and within a week I was getting full bars ever since at my new house, so why should I switch ............................. all they need now is some damn better phones
Now back to the question, would this new option in 06 work with T-mo. new service or is there too llittle info known about both features to give a definate answer
I liked T-Mobile and the pricing.
I had 4 phones, 2 in Florida and 2 in NY.
For the last 2 years in Florida....my service sucked!
I worked with T-Mo this whole time because of pricing.
T-Mo told me ... "They do not have to provide service" ... this came from retention. If T-Mo works for you, cool ... because at one time it worked for me. Now it doesn't work so I had to move.
As far as billing & CS...so far so good. I get 20% off everything except equipment and they paid my cancellation fees.
I still have my NY phones with T-Mo
As I stated earlier ... same phone, different network .... my cellular life is good again.
Until you're in a situation where your service continually doesn't work...you can't talk. I go to work and everyone could use their phones but me...even Metro PCS and it only works in a handfull of Florida zip codes.
The question still goes unanswered...why create a WiFi Home network if you have coverage....?
It's a shame that my cousin...a T-Mo manager hates to come to my home because his phone doesn't work.....

Look...I've got bars
one con that i think this has "no smartphone compatible"
I would probably go with it. where i live is on the bottom of a hill (a bit lower in elevation than the surrounding areas), so my signal is weak (too much interference). i ended up getting a phone landline through my cable company ($30 on promotion) along with internet and cable tv service. if I can switch my t-mobile to go to to ip (which is the same thing that my cable company uses anyway, except packaged in a nice box), then it just makes sense to cut the $30 a month and use one phone to do either.
plus with the cable phone, i have it set to forward to my cell phone when i'm at work, so a majority of my calls go straight to my cell phone anyway.
anyway, nowadays, most people don't really use a home phone and a cell phone. all my information and phone usage is done with the cell. this service would just improve my connectivity from home.

oh i agree that if you didn't have coverage someplace then you would have to switch. that is a given. but your other arguments were invalid.
plus now, you can use this [email protected] service in areas that you might not have signal. you obviously didn't read what I said about the service if you still asked why people would get this if they have signal at their home. well, if you don't have great signal, than this will help that. plus you can pay $10 a month ($20 per family plan) to have UNLIMITED calls while connected to hotspots. that alone will entice some people to the service.
if at&t works for you, that's great. my experiences with at&t is that the service was completely unusable. sure they had signal everywhere but what good does it do when you can't use that service. obviously it works better where you are so more power to you.

$479.99 with 2-year contract!!!

I've checked online and seen that the price "due today" was $349.99 and then you get a $50 MIR for a total of $299.99. I went to my local ATT Corporate store this evening to get a Fuze and noticed that on the info sheet next to the display model it said $379.99, I thought maybe they just marked it up $30 and then you get a $50 MIR. Then the sales guy informed me that the $379.99 is the price after a $100 MIR so that the total due today was $479.99! I just looked at the guy and was like why would I pay $479.99 for it here when I can go home and order it online for $349.99. He kind of just got a dumb founded look on his face and was like "well yea."
Can the stores really mark up the price that much? I think I'm going to call around to the other stores in the area and see what the price is.
edit: If I do have to order it online will the price be charged to my bill automatically or can I pay with a credit card?
Store prices around here are at $350... I think your salemen was just r-tarded.
if the store is an authorized retailer.... YES they can mark up the price.... but thats just to catch the dummies..... so find a corporate store or go back and talk to a manager and say you want online/corporate store price your youll just go to another store...

@stevena3: I looked at the price information sticker next to the display model after he said that it was after MIR and it in-fact said 479.99 and then 100 MIR, so the sales guy was just going off their price information.
edit: I don't think those links are working. The first one was titled AT&T whereas the second one was titled Mobile Communications.
wow... amazon.com price increased by $25. It was $175 with $25 rebate last week when I placed my order.
It's actually $499 but ATT knocks $100 plus the 50 MIB

lucky!
Wait. Were you setting up a brand new phone plan, or trying to extend a current plan? If you were extending a current plan and you were not yet upgrade eligible, then they are going to charge you full retail for the phone.
they are including 80$ accessories with it,fyi.
I was upgrading my phone, I've been eligible for an upgrade for like 2 or 3 months now.
I forgot that they always added all the accessories, extra charger and case and stuff. They did that when my mom upgraded her phone but that was still only $70 lol.
I woke up having a good day until
I finally found the AT&T Fuze for a good price but at what cost?
I remember when customer loyalty was appreciated and rewarded but now customer retention doesn't seem to be a high priority.
Let's Talk has the Fuze for
$509.99 - without any service plans
$399 - $150.00 = $249.99 - with an upgrade for a current customer
$249.99 - $249.99 = $FREE!!! - with a new service plan
I have had AT&T for at least 6 years and I have to pay more because of that???
Called another store a couple miles farther away. Paid $299.99 plus tax (came to $318.xx) and got a $50 MIR for a final price of $249.
I feel sorry for you guys in the US.....in the Netherlands € 0,00 with a 2 year contract (€ 45 each month, includes 250 minutes, 25 free text messages and unlimited internet 1024/384)

Mine was FREE, and I had it for about a month before it was released. Just thought id throw that out there.
Now my receipt looks like a government document lol. How I got it this cheap I don't know. I don't have a premier account or anything. I was just calling to see if anyone had it for the advertised $349 since the aforementioned store had it for $479 and I was not about to pay that.

Stopped by Target last night and they had MT4G on the shelf.
Saw it at Costco for $149.99
Bought mine at Costco for $149. Comes with a travel case, car charger, and a bluetooth headset.
Did any of you who have a data plan for less than $30/month get a run-around on having to "upgrade" your data plan?
If not, watch out for anything on your TMo bill down the road. When I first looked at ordering on their website, up popped a note that before activating it, I would have to convert my data plan.
If the forced data upgrade does not happen on devices bought at these stores, then I feel sorry for all the TMo stores - their computers are all set to force the upgrade before they can approve the upgrade price.
Everyone will go to Costco, Radio Shack, etc.
Does the case that come with it, is it actually a nice case for it or just a generic case?
samsclub has it for 79.74. walmart has it for 49.99 after rebates. t-mobile store priced match mine at 79.74 but the cs rep wasn't too happy about it, dont know why. I told him tmobile makes $$$ from contracts not from the phones, then he went on ranting how walmart/samsclub can stay in business with these prices. I really didn't care, i just wanted my phone and get the hell out

Does Costco usually let you buy off contract?
I stopped by the Costco near me yesterday and was told they're not selling the myTouch 4G off contract.
Can someone else confirm?
Nope, they don't sell off contact but they are required to have the price there because instead of paying taxes on the discounted rate, you pay the full price taxes. I was not too happy paying 28 bucks in taxes but still was a good bundle deal @ $228 - $50 rebate $178.00

If you have an old device to trade in, consider Radio Shack. They sell the phone for $149.99 (no mail-in), and offered me $75 for my beat up Droid 1 and up to $100 for a mint one.

Considering a return

I'm really nobody special but just thought I'd post my thoughts here. I've been an avid Android user since fall 2009. I went from the Sprint Hero to the Eris, OG Droid, Incredible, DX, and then made the jump to VZW's iPhone in Feb 2011.
The iPhone 4 is a great phone, but I miss Android. My wife has a D2 and wants my iPhone 4. Well 4g is just now being turned on in my area....so........she has approved my purchase of the TB as long as I sell her D2 to help cover the cost!
She gets the iPhone and can Facetime with her sister (they live 3 hours apart).
I'm touching base here, obviously I'm sure that most people are happy with their TB but please let me know what you think?
Is it worth the effort?
What are some things I can do to prep for battery life? I'm considering a second battery and have read about disabling 4g, but I'm not as likely to do this in my area now.
On another note...I'm doing this partly because of the discounted rate we get right now and I'd like to make sure that unlimited 4g data is on there at our current rate.
My last note: I'd never take the D2 over the iPhone...just saying If this doesn't work out I may consider a switch to Sprint when the EVO 3d comes out
Get it. Or not. Its your call and you already know what you want, most likely.
Personally I wouldn't trade my TB for anything. I hate apples overcontrol and 3d is one of the dumbest marketing gimmicks for a phone I have seen in a long time, just saying.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I would go TB before Iphone 4 twice on Sunday, but I would also grab the extended battery while there
I don't recommend the extra battery thing. Wait till you see how much of a ***** it is to open the battery cover. I've only opened it twice (once to put the SIM/battery in when I first got it, and once a few days ago because I had to do a battery pull). Everytime I open it I feel like I'm going to break the damn thing!
I got a TB, and so far I like it a lot. The only thing I have against it is the battery life (but I have got it down to a manageable level). So if you are away from the charger a lot, grab a spare.
And plus, you can still videochat with the TB. I'm sure that there will be a solution for iphone to TB videochatting out there.
The 4G is wicked fast, to the point I feel like slowing down if I have to get on wifi. Plus, since VZ is not charging premium for 4G access unlike another carrier, and not to mention locking into unlimited data before it goes away some day, these 2 factors convinced me to jump in.
All in all, I recommend.
That sucks, I've considered the inductive charging back but that would rule out the Ballistic HC case.
A few good options; root it and put a good Rom/kernel and/or get the extended battery. I've done both.

My plan is to stop by BB Mobile during my lunch hour. If they won't match VZW's off-contract price then I'll go across the street to VZW. I just figure I should try to get the RWZ points on top of my bank points

I'm waiting for Skype to release their fix before installing it. The wife and her sister currently use Skype, just not on her D2. They use their PC's, but now they'll have another option.
Thanks for the tip.
Yes, the current security flaw is huge. Althought its not even an official release.

True, and I noticed that I've only got 40 post (with this post). I'm thankful nobody thought I was a troll lol.
I do love this forum, I just try to post when I have something to contribute.
Good choice. I'm going to switch my wife from an iPhone 4. Couldn't be happier with my TB.
I like my TB, wouldn't trade it in and I'm like some people I hate Apple. That does not go to say cause I'm an Android user. TB is my first smart phone, ever.

Go for it, you'll love the phone.
I have no regrets, even more so since neither Moto or VZW have squashed the rumors of the Bionic being scrapped, which was the device I was waiting for. Add a 1yr contract on top of that, and everything is roses.
As far as battery life.. I bought a spare release day thinking it would be a good idea. I havent used it once..
Keep your auto sync'ing to a minimum, display brightness mid level and dont run battery sucking apps and you're fine. I get through a day no problem with normal use, and I am running slightly OC'd at 1.2GHz.
I have had mine for 26 hours… Here is my impression. Battery life is not bad at all if you turn 4G off which I did because I don’t even have it in my area. Everything else is great… except one of the worst kickstand designs ever designed.
First off it’s on the wrong side so you can’t have the kickstand out and have the USB cable plugged in at the same time. As stupid and terrible of a design that is it’s not that big of a deal as I really don’t see myself using the kickstand that much.
The real problem is that the kickstand covers the speaker!!!!
It’s just beyond me why they did this. You want to talk on speaker, or listen to music, or watch a YouTube video… whatever. Well the audio is going to be muffled compared to if you have the kickstand out always… no matter what. Even if you can hear fine you always know you could hear it better if the kickstand was out. So you will always be walking around holding your phone with the kickstand out for no reason other than just so the speaker won’t be covered.
Its design flaws like this that just drive me f’ing crazy!! I want to just remove the kickstand altogether. It’s something that is a hindrance like 95% of the time and might be a benefit maybe 5%.
Just drives me crazy
.
Other than that its awesome.

After getting an email from VZ saying I was eligible for an upgrade at promo prices, I went to BB to get a Bolt and charge it to my BB card until I sold my Droid X. 15 minutes after the guy at BB Mobile told me I would have to buy at retail price or activate on a new line, I was walking out of Verizon with my new Bolt, charged to my Verizon account. Sold the X the day before my 14 day trial period with the Bolt was over. I was sweating that one out as I didn't really want to go back to my DX after getting to know the TBolt.
Long story even longer, be prepared to hear that you can't get the Bolt from BB at less than full retail. I'm not saying you can't, just be prepared.

You are correct and it went down in an ugly fashion. The store manager approved the price match...however the BB Mobile Manager refused to authorize the match. I let them know my disappointment, especially since the store manager approved it. I've worked retail, and if the store manager messed up they usually honored it for that occurrence.
I literally went across the street and purchased the phone from VZW at $130.00 cheaper. The sad thing, I was actually going to purchase an invisible shield and couple of other accessories at BB so it wasn't a total wash if they honored it.
I emailed customer service with the store number and let them know about my experience. It probably won't go anywhere but I really did think that it was messed up, especially since they took me through most of the transaction prior to notifying me.
BTW some beautiful numbers! Not the best, but I'm very happy!

ah man, i feel your pain.
i've been using android since the g1 with tmobile, switched to the nexus one, got the mytouch 4g then switched to verizon for the thundertold (preorder may i add)
Used the iPhone4 for Verizon for about 3 days and the TB came out so i returned the iphone and got the TB, couldn't use that phone for more than a week. Battery life sucks, phones too big, feels like a brick, and can CAN BE USED AS A DEADLY WEAPON! sad to say i'm using the iphone, again. Only cause this has higher value then any android phone @ verizon and I can get more $ out of it when I sell it.. I was hoping to pick up the Incredible2 but no lte? forget that. Good luck man, hard choice but the iphone isnt that bad..but i'd still take android os over iphone, just not the thunderbolt

General Trade-In Issues

Until today, I've been concerned that, having delivered two Pixel 5 trade-ins to my local Post Office on the morning of Tuesday, October, 18, USPS tracking showed that, since Thursday and Friday, respectively, of last week, they were stuck, "moving through the network", in Nashville, not yet out for delivery. Today, however, I received two emails from Google acknowledging receipt of the phones and their moving to the assessment stage of the trade-in process. The USPS tracking status hasn't changed, however.

Same thing here but the wife got a email from Google this morning saying the $$ for the trade in are being credited to my payment method. I think I had the same thing happen a few years ago trading a phone in to Google.
My two Pixel 6 Pros were stuck "Moving through Network" since early morning Friday, October 21st. They still both show that status with USPS tracking, but yesterday I got an email that the one had arrived, and the Google Store does show that they are accessing it. The second one, as of this morning, still hadn't arrived.
I've noticed with trade-ins that it's similar to some (not all) Amazon returns I've made. They give me a "shipping label", and have me drop it off at the post office. Then the tracking shows them not really going anywhere but handed off (I forget the exact terminology they use). It's like the post office doesn't really ship (or in the case of our phone trade-ins, deliver) in a normal fashion despite them looking like they do. As if the post office is just some central drop-off point. In Amazon return cases, I typically get an acknowledgment of the return is complete within 24 hours, but these device trade-ins are harrowing.
I chose trade-in instead of selling on Swappa because I figured the selling price of them would go down tremendously with all the people upgrading - and I believe I've confirmed it did happen that way.

Whatever the Swappa prices were pre-launch, now they're much less than Google offered. Both our Pixel 5s are in good condition--having always lived in cases and had screen protectors. Google offered (up to $400). If they come through, that looks to be c. $200 more than one could get selling on Swappa.

looks like you faired better than me. my trade in is "in transit" from that Nashville hub and Google says they don't have it. it's been over a week. it's making me nervous. it's a Galaxy Note20 Ultra. if they lose it I basically lost over $500

Interesting. I'm expecting 950 for mine if I trade it in. Good to know.

I hope yours is acknowledged arrived at Google very soon. Mine was acknowledged arrived at Google five days (yesterday) after the first day that the tracking said "Moving through network" in or around Nashville. My refund got credited this evening.
This morning my wife's phone hadn't arrived at Google yet, but it has now, thankfully.
Both post office tracking still say "Moving through network". Crazy.

Better than mine lol... Shows it was delivered on the 24th and my trade-in status shows still waiting for device. USPS was slow on delivering the kit as well and delayed the process even further. I hope by next week they acknowledge receiving the device and I don't have to contact Google Support.

Dropped mine off at usps on the 18th and still nothing.
It’s been in Nashville over a week now.
Says..
Moving Through Network
In Transit, Arriving Late
So you’re not alone, I’ve got 700 bucks riding on this.
In the UK i could not find a Post Office that could send my trade in kit back to Google so i gave up and ended up taking my Pixel 6 Pro to CEX.
It took like 10 days and they finally got my Pixel 4a and I got $300 for it which I was happy because I got it on sale for that much originally. Lol...

I'm in the same boat. My Pixel 6 Pro has been in transit from the Nashville hub since the 21st as well. They offered me $600 trade in value. I did some searching and from what others have said Google will still give the trade in value they assesed as long as you have proof the phone was shipped. They will have to do a lost mail claim with USPS and that takes around 10 days. Reading that makes me fill a little better but I'm still nervous as hell.
well then, got an email just now from Google. they have it but usps tracking still says in transit.
I just received an email from Google telling me that one of the two Pixel 5s mailed to them as trade-ins has been valued at the full estimated amount of $400. I still await word on the second phone.
In the grand scheme of all things shipping...USPS is far behind UPS, and FedEx, here in the USA IMO.
USPS still shows both my traded-in phones moving through the network. Meanwhile, Google has emailed acknowledgments that it has received both and assessed and refunded the full amount estimated on one of them.
