Run some other program to verify the GPS, like Google Maps, or "GPS Test" in the market.

I'm in Asia, in the Philippines to be more specific. I think the problem has something to do with my GPS config. Don't you think? When I tried GPS Test from the market, I don't see any activity going on except for the compass...

Couldn't it be a hardware problem?

This may be a dumb question...are you sure its enabled in settings? I've just found sometimes its the simple and obvious solution.

Google Maps showing me in wrong Location

I just installed the new Google Maps 3.2 with Layers, and the darn app is showing me in INDIA! I Reset the app, and soft reset my phone no luck, any suggestions?

Hi,
Seems not to work on all phones .... look here
Dirk
Hey Paul,
I had this issue on my Polaris when google maps was cooked into the rom, although i appredciate this isnt the case for you. Assume it shows your right location when you get a GPS lock?
If not, i would unistall it, delete the program folder and re-install.... It does have something to do with my location but not striaght foward (ha isnt it always)
I'll have a search but thry the above first, that worked for me as it was cooked in.
I had this issue with another country, and then I realised that somehow my "Regional Settings" were set to somewhere completely wrong when I installed Google maps, therefore it was working wrong. I uninstalled it, changed my Regional Settings to UK (which is where I am) and then re-installed Google Maps. Its worked rather accurately ever since.
Although, It would be nice to get an option to use after finding your general location to point out exactly where you are, which means directions "from here" would be more accurate.
Thanks buddy it sorted my problem

HD2 and Aviation navigation??

I have been searching everywhere and I'm not having any luck. Does anyone know where I can get a really good aviation navigation, that utilizes the built in GPS and has live moving maps, app for my hd2?? It would really help me out and stop me from spending $400-500 on a good garmin.. Any help would be great... thanks in advance
I'm also still looking for that
hello guys,i'm looking for it too,plz post it if any1 got it,for HTC HD2... thanks
VFR or IFR ??
I know when i was flying VFR years ago, www.pocketfms.com was fantastic and helped me found a small airport near Paris
About IFR... I don't really have any. I used to use beeline GPS and have a database of worldwide airport entered as waypoints. (named as ICAO code).
Except that, NON navigation talking, i use wxsys to get metar taf, notams on pda... however i found out it's not really fitted for the HD2, as i can't scroll down the results...
If anyone has some other sugestions of programs interesting for IFR flights on the HD2... i'm listening !
Fly safe!
thanks! but I dont have a pref. I just want an actual aviation navigation app with moveable maps via gps. I use aviationweather.gov for my weather related stuff..notams, taf, metars.. by the way the radar on the hd2 is awesome!!! so ill check out those apps.. but if one else knows of some good **** let us know...
Try this...
http://www.flynavgps.com/
i do have a program that i did use a while back the maps were a little out of date back then ( up to date airports vors....)
but all in all wasn't that bad.
I'm actually going to be picking up a leo tomorrow and will be going for some vfr flight soon so I'll try it out.
it's called
WinPilotVFR
-planning - weather -checklist -deviations ....were all there
there was a website that tried to maintain the maps but i haven't been for a while, if your not able to find it let me know and I'll send you the program.
pocketfms has become f***ing expensive. for wx checks I use wxsys. currently I'm playing around with relirescue for nav purposes. But: there's no aviation/ flight safety overlay.
Does anyone know if there's an holding calculator for ifr?
thanks yall ill have to do some downloading.. but I checked out navgps... but I havent had a chance to import the maps into the app.. but thanks and lets keep this goin.. were need more aviators..
NavGPS work better on device with joystick-button. I use it on my Acer DX900. When I try on my wife's HD2 it was much worse.
I think mobile aviation soft now - big problem.

Hi!
Are you a Pilot? I am too, on the helicopter. I am using 2 program on my HD2, they are quite very userfull for me. Oziexplorer version 2.34 and NAVGPS PRO. Both can build the route, flight planing, WPT the same like GPS, specially they installed to SD and just one time input the active.
Give me your mail box to get more information!
I am a CPL-H as well, but I found that there are much more usefull apps for android than for Windows mobile. So android mostly runs when I am entering the helicopter and windows mobile anywhere else ;-)
Oziexplorer will allow you to calibrate your own maps from scanned maps and other sources too.
Tried a lot of apps and now I am with
Flymap
Costly, but perfectly stable and with PC-planning app
Alternative:
Skymap
Less costly, same functions as Flymap, did not try it.
(I fly an ultralight gyroplane)

looking for GPS tracking application

Dear all,
I'm looking for the GPS (tracking?) application where I can load the waypoints (gpx?) and then follow them from one point to the next one.
Thanks for suggestions!
BLIND ? Lost the Search button ? Get this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670116
Hi, I'm not sure if you read my post or just the title...
I cant find the way to load the waypoints (route) into the application you suggested and then to follow it. That app is very nice and can log the track as you move but I couldn't find the IMPORT/LOAD waypoints option.
If you're experienced with this app please correct me if I'm wrong.
Do you mean an aplication for Geocaching ?
Look for GCz. http://www.nicque.com/PQz/GCz.htm
Thanks Didibochum,
I've checked the GCz - it's not exactly what I meant but if nothing else is there then I'll use that one.
I'm looking for something like the garmin outdoor devices where one can set the route to be followed by placing the waypoints and then the program gives the direction and distance to the nearest waypoint. Once the waypoint is reached it automatically points to the next one in list and so on.
Sorry pepesz !
Now I get it, You want it the other way round Planning a route and then exporting to HD2 and follow the route .............
Maybe this one could be for You ?

Sorry for misunderstanding You and reacting so harsh .....

Can anyone tell me if the HTC HD2 in airplane mode still allows connection to gps so I can use Igo on a flight?
Try out NoniGPSplot. It looks pretty outdated, but it's worth a try and to buy. I use it a lot a least

Yes, GPS works in flight mode
Look here for a list of airlines which alllow GPS receivers.
I took some tracks last week from Greece to U.K. using GPS Cycle Computer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
The only problem is getting a GPS lock through the aircraft skin/small windows
It can take a while to get a lock but, once you do, the HD2 stays locked pretty well, even a meter from the window

GPS For Canals/Rivers in UK

hi,
i am looking for a GPS program that can be used on canals/waterways
can anyone help please?
thanks in advance
What are you wanting to do with the gps program, turn by turn navigation? I doubt that there is anything like that out there.
There are some OS map based programs that might be ok though.

it was for the parents to use in place of maps, my mum has a n1 too and is bang into it at 58!
which map based programs do you think are worth trying?
If you are just talking about canals, wouldn't google maps do the job? Like MrRalphMan said, you won't find a turn by turn for that I wouldn't think but surely google maps shows waterways doesn't it?
I forgot Google maps, that should be ok..
The one I was thinking of is Memory Map, this uses OS maps.
thanks for your help both, especially google maps! didnt cross my mind to check thar prior to asking.

Best offline GPS maps application?

Hey
Im wondering whats the best offline maps applications for Android. Google Maps is no doubt the best but needing a data connection throws me back (I also personally dont have one). Im looking one with navigation in it as well (voice if possible).
Thank you
OSMAND
Try OSMAND from the Market. You can download data for offline use/per country and you only use GPS - no data/internet required. Note: you'll only need internet access to get directions.

Try Copilot or iGO, both are very good as GPS.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
Can you guys clarify? Somebody mentioned that you need a data connection for GPS to function altogether. Is this not true?
nice topic, i have a same question too. Is there any apps u dont need to connect to internet to get direction and maps? Just use only GPS
you do need a connection with a simcard for the gps to work quickly yes. i tried my G1 without a sim and it hadnt locked onto my location in over 30 minutes. tried with sim card in and it was almost instant. i think it relies on positioning from the antennas for your phone first then produces a more accurate location with gps.
oh and im trying out navigon on mine

You don't need data plan or internet for GPS if you are using Copilot or IGO. Copilot has offline GPS,which it is similar to any other GPS you buy for electronic store. In Copilot and iGO, all maps are stored in sdcard.

Look up A-GPS.
You do not need a simcard or a data connection to have GPS work.
try MapDroyd im using it most of the time. Their maps is very healful when you are in a City or a well known city but works poor when you are in a province. not recommended for adventure.

cheers man. will have a look for that one later. as far as i knew you didnt need a data plan but did need a simcard in for it to find your location quicker.
Is there any GPS map apps i can use on my G1 that will work as navgon doesnt appear to do so due to no sim card.
good find, thanks for the info

The latest Google Maps automatically cache your viewed maps on your SD card.
You can download a route, both outward and return using google maps, before you leave home on your wifi.
I also use the app 'bluetooth gps provider' and an old tomtom receiver, as the built in gps receiver on my magic is virtually non existant!
I find osmand a bit eratic, but its not a bad back up.
Navigon is a good choice, they claim you only need internet to download your maps and thats it
I'm looking for an app like that too. Ive been using a cracked version of Ndrive and it is pretty cool but it takes like an eternity to load.
Is any if the recommendations works with maps of Israel?
There are plenty of programs, but almost none for Israel.
when i use an offline navigator i select aura sygic... its cool... has a lot of extras...
and you only must to download the maps and mlm file and put it in maps file...
Mapdroid is good. You can try locus free maps too! I've personally used it and its really working good for me!
