Hi,
Seems not to work on all phones .... look here
Dirk
Hey Paul,
I had this issue on my Polaris when google maps was cooked into the rom, although i appredciate this isnt the case for you. Assume it shows your right location when you get a GPS lock?
If not, i would unistall it, delete the program folder and re-install.... It does have something to do with my location but not striaght foward (ha isnt it always)
I'll have a search but thry the above first, that worked for me as it was cooked in.
I had this issue with another country, and then I realised that somehow my "Regional Settings" were set to somewhere completely wrong when I installed Google maps, therefore it was working wrong. I uninstalled it, changed my Regional Settings to UK (which is where I am) and then re-installed Google Maps. Its worked rather accurately ever since.
Although, It would be nice to get an option to use after finding your general location to point out exactly where you are, which means directions "from here" would be more accurate.
Thanks buddy it sorted my problem

I have a Shadow, and for some reason neither google maps or any other program seem to be able to report a cell id. I was wondering if this is something unique to the shadow or perhaps just my area? I'm on T-mobile near Oklahoma City if thats at all relevant.
I have the Shadow as well but I am located in Los Angeles California. So far google maps has located me down to the street from home to work. It is not live GPS, but it does help when I want to locate things in the area I am in.

Hi-
I have been a lurker here for a bit- This is my first post.
In order for the Google Maps My Location feature to work, you must unlock it to apps.
Download the cab here
http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/AppUnlockReg.htm
It will auto-edit the registry for you.
Do a soft reset, and it will work...
Its pretty neat on my shadow, a little further away than I expected tho..

Thanks a million! This was exactly the information I needed. I went ahead and used the manual registry edit to application unlock the 3125 - and presto, suddenly google maps is doing My Location happily as a clam!
Richard

Hi,
I have TomTom 6... instaled the same version of the one in this forum. The problem is is that i have no maps :S i thought the maps that came with the download were the maps i could use but where ever i put them in the root of my micro card and on the phone.. ive put "maps" in every map that made sense to me but it keeps saying No maps found! WTF i'm getting more and more pissed of about this
please help my sorry ass
if i locate them in my documents (and not in My documents/Maps) it works fine.
if that doesnt work, something else is wrong
yeah i 've tried that...
but is there something wrong with my maps? can someone post a map that works? see if my maps are just wrong?
tnx
works!!
I put the map under my documents and now it works.
but when i want to type the activation code, everytime i press a number, i changes into a letter...
what am i doing wrong?
I searched to see if anyone posted and they didnt.
I go to www.google.com/gmm and it says "sorry, google maps does not work on your htc touchdual".....

DAMN! Im 110% its not on mine
I dont have any GPS software on my device, that sucks!
Anyway I can get a copy from your device?????
THANKS!
I have a better idea. Why don't you check out this thread chock-full-o applications for the Diamond. Scroll down and you'll find Google Maps and you may find other things that interest you as well. As the Diamond is very similar to the Touch Pro it should work. I got my iGo nav software up and running by reading a thread posted in the Diamond forum. So if you don't find what you're looking for over here, try over there. You may also want to try Windows Live Search. I believe the url is wls.live.com which you can download directly via your s...l...o...w... EDGE connection. Let us know how it works out.

thank you!!!!
i got it on my device but it will not show my location, it says looking for satelite.
tnx again
Also, if you're trying to download from www.google.com/gmm, make sure you use pocket IE. if you go to that website using opera, it identifies itself as a desktop browser and hence you get the error.

If you haven't already then try doing this:
1) Run QuickGPS and download latest satellite data.
2) In Google Maps select Menu->Use GPS.
Be patient the first time, it will take longer than usual to acquire a signal the first time you use it. QuickGPS should help to acquire a signal faster. If you are having trouble then make sure you are outside or close to a window with a direct view of the sky to test it, but it will probably work in the interior of your home too.
Ok so I used Internet Explorer as suggested on the board and was able to load it with no problem.
Thanks again and hope this post helps someone else.
Hi!
Does anybody know from where I can download Google Maps? No, it did not come with the phone. And yes, I know that normally you get it from www.google.com/gmm - except that all I get from there is "Sorry, Google Maps does not work on your HTC TouchDual."
Do you guys get the same message?
use internet explorer to browse google.com/gmm
this is because opera's user agent..

To be honest I have never come across anyone who didn't have it installed as stock. Where did you get your TP from?
As for downloading it, you will need to search the forum and see if any one has extracted it from their TP as I assume it is a bespoke build for the software

no, it's a standard build. And there were problems with it on the diamond with it not shuttiong down the GPS properly and rinsing the battery in around 2.5 to 3 hours.
go to www.google.com/gmm using INTERNET EXPLORER and download the latest version!

I'm not sure, but...
http://www.google.com/gmm/GoogleMaps.CAB
I just directly go to that URL with Opera Mobile (case sensitive!) and download the cab
Is the google maps install on the UK version the full version or still linked to the web?
GPS problem or Google maps problem
Hi!
With IE, I got presumably the latest version, which seems to be 2.2.0.19.
However, I can not lock into satellites at all.
Before that I had found one web-site that hosted an earler version that was very quick to find satellites - it just was missing lot of features like the favorites and was nagging all the time about updates.
So the question is, is this a problem with GM? Or the phone otherwise? Here are my settings:
Windows GPS settings:
GPS program port: COM4
GPS hardware port: (None), Baud rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically: checked
In Google Maps, I've selected the option to get position through Windows (as opposed to manual setup).
Does anybody know any free program that I can use to check out the GPS functionality preferably in a way that would give some deeper access to functionality - like the traditional satellite view? Thanks in advance!
Forgot some details:
I've run the QuickGPS - hope that is not what is confusing the GPS now as I had just had a update before this latest version of GM?
Google Maps just sits there with "searching for GPS-satellites (0)..." and never advances the count from 0...
DO a search and you will find a thread "testing gps" where you will find a tool for "testing gps"!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420933
Read the other threads on gps performance!!!!!
YOur first lock on satilites can take upto 20mins, even though you have updated quickgps. You need to be stationary and preferably outside.

Thanks I'll try that tool.
However, I did have older GM installed previously and it found a lock in just a few minutes. Actually GM doesn't even wait 20 min before it shows you a screen that says that it can not get a fix.

I bought mine from Expansys.co.uk and mine came with it, although that was before the price drop so they may be differant units
you got the UK unit, not the EU one, possibly

Yes, 1.90.405.1 is the UK ROM.
Same problem with the set I bought in Singapore, no google map included, and thanks for the IE fix, weird why Opera can't do it though.
Cheers.

I just wanted to say, that my Touch Pro doesn't have GoogleMaps preinstalled
hi,
i am looking for a GPS program that can be used on canals/waterways
can anyone help please?
thanks in advance
What are you wanting to do with the gps program, turn by turn navigation? I doubt that there is anything like that out there.
There are some OS map based programs that might be ok though.

it was for the parents to use in place of maps, my mum has a n1 too and is bang into it at 58!
which map based programs do you think are worth trying?
If you are just talking about canals, wouldn't google maps do the job? Like MrRalphMan said, you won't find a turn by turn for that I wouldn't think but surely google maps shows waterways doesn't it?
I forgot Google maps, that should be ok..
The one I was thinking of is Memory Map, this uses OS maps.
thanks for your help both, especially google maps! didnt cross my mind to check thar prior to asking.
