Im choosing a phone from these 3 phones. I like samsung, but im confused because people still saying that desire is better than samsung. Samsung hardware is better. OS is the same. And samsung is getting 2,2froyo soon. HTC Sense UI is not important for me.
I think galaxy S is better, but i need gps and i heard that samsung galaxy S is bad with GPS. Samsung said that they fix this. Will they really fix? Its not the same when the apple tried to fix bad antenna with new iOS ?
Pleaser help to decide. What about ROMs for Galaxy S. quantity of them is smaller than desire, but maybe in the future they will increase ?

Though the S/W problems are getting fixed with new f/w updates, they are being released too often, and often come with more problems.
The CPU "Hummingbird" has been called that it does 1,2x better on the same frequency as snapdragon. This is not truth anymore as latest builds are just as fast, for someone maybe a little more.
Somone said that the CPU might be overclockable to 1,6Ghz... NEVER. Well snapdragon is overclockable a bit higher then 1,4Ghz. But you need to overvolt it, NEVER use performance governor and basically... In short, the snapdragon CPU is H/W limited to a bit more then 1000 BogoMIPS. And it will cause problems. And so the hummingbird is. But because it's so optimized I can hardly think of any possibility why or how could it end-up with 1,6Ghz. It might go 1,4Ghz, but will have maybe even more problems then the snapdragon.

Better community, ROMs, speed, stabiliity, later battery life. Galaxy S maybe looks like less problems, but overall it's still the same thing, just a little bit enhanced. If you think you'll get more satisfaction with it, buy it. But if you don't specifically want a game phone, better get Desire...

I had a desire and now I'm using a I9000.
I must say that the Galaxy is lighter and faster. The screen looks amazing and the battery lasts much longer.

No problem, btw 4,3 is not big, my desire has 3,7' and I find it really small. (really)
And as far what I've seen, it will have really good construction.
Samsung galaxy S is a pretty solid phone it runs great it looks sleek its screen is what is known as gorilla glass which if you look up is pretty impressive kudos to samsung for choosing that as the screen had mine since the second day it was released and it barely has scratches on the screeen 2x kudos and i am very rough with my electronics, great resolution fast processor and highly modded it becomes a straight monster phone who cares if im running stock rom you would never beable to tell after all that i did to my phone the development section is small yes but there is so much you can do with it i cannot wait till more comes out for this phone

Nope, the Desire HD will be about the same size as the Galaxy S. Look at the Evo, it's 2mm larger, 1 mm shorter than the Galaxy S, and 1 mm thicker (which is not really a sizable difference between the 2).
The Desire HD uses the whole space for the screen (where as the Galaxy S has 2 cm plastic at the top and 2 at the bottom).
I wanted to take the Galaxy S, but now I'm definitely waiting for the Desire HD.

But i heard that samsung have a buggy OS. And have no costum ROMs and etc. There's a lot of good roms for Desire, including the OpenDesire which makes your phone super

the galaxy s isnt faster lol everyone knows about the galaxy's poor memory management, even galaxy owners complain about lag when using messeges or dialer ect, the fact of the matter is, if you have an xbox and dont care about playing games on you phone, get the desire its by far the superior device, if you want it for games get the iphone lol
i were almost buying Galaxy S, but then i heard about super thing called OpenDesire. And heard that samsung OS is buggy, laggy. And no costum ROMs
I have the chance to get a new phone, and I have decided its going to be between the G2 and the Samsung Captivate. I'm on the AT&T network, and I'm probably not gonna have data, so the speeds of data and 2G/3G network speeds shouldn't be that much of a factor. I did research on them and both of them seem pretty good but I'm not sure which of the two I should actually get.
I do text a lot so the keyboard on the G2 would be a little helpful, but the Captivate has that nice Super AMOLED screen. I do however plan to be doing a lot with the phone, like rooting it, so please keep that in mind as well.
What would some of you suggest? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Don't know much about the g2 but I do currently own a captivate and its a great phone very easy too root and install roms. I would start from there research which one is easier too root and which ones have the best roms and what not.
Never was a big fan of a physical keyboard. so I can tell you that the typing on the captivate is pretty accurate. Also the screen is bigger! Lol but enough about my bias opinion just find out the hacking capabilities of both as well and go from there
But to make a long story short like the guy ahead of me.

If you plan to stick with the stock ROM then get the G2. Otherwise, get the Captivate. With a custom ROM the Galaxy S phones blow all the others away.
Both are great phones, but I think all of the people recommending the Captivate are forgetting that the G2 is sort of 'future-proof' in that it has HSDPA+ built in for T-Mobile's kinda-sorta 4G network. It's really up to you if you think you'd need that.
Another question to ask yourself is do you need a physical keyboard or not. And finally, which phone do you prefer as of right now?
Well I'm not really sure about the physical keyboard, if the touch keyboard thats on the Captivate is good, then I guess I wouldn't really need the physical keyboard. I also remember hearing that it has Swype on it as well, so I dunno if Swype is actually faster than a physical keyboard or not. The 4G connectivity would be good, but I don't have T-Mobile so it doesn't really apply to me all that much
Do you require a keyboard or have a lot to gain from having one? If so, htc Vision is your best bet in the market right now.
Otherwise, save your money because single core processors will be phased out in a matter of months.

Its funny you say that they are coming out with dual core processors but still using the same battery as single core. So imagine how fast the battery will fade on you. On top of that the price of the phone will almost double. So I give em late 4th quarter 2011 before these phone will actually blow up.

The G2 is the fastest (other than games... its close tho) with a little overclocking, and has a clearer, smaller but less bright screen. I wish I had that extra .3" sometimes. Physical keyboard is sweet, but I can type near as well with the on screen keyboard on the galaxy s'. They also have a better vibrate-on-keypress. Did I mention that this phone is fast? Stuff just does what you tell it.
Also, I know this is just the general forum but the dual core info... I wouldn't believe much of it
If you plan on using GPS at all, stay away from the Captivate.

Double the cores doesn't always mean double the price or battery life.(Nor should people expect double the performance) Being a mobile platform, I'm sure one of the major points they worked with is battery life. Different from dual processor, which you power both cpus, both sockets, and everything on each cpu. Where as one chip, you just power one chip. Same thing goes with price. a quad core cpu is considerably less than 2 dual cores. I'm not saying that it will cost as much and use as much power as a single core, but it's not going to be as high as you think.
Well, after 3 weeks of trying the Inspire and Atrix, at the end of the day I am back on the Captivate! I think the AT&T store are sick of me becuase I got the Inspire then returned it for the Atrix, then returned the Atrix for the Inspire. Why? Sound quality, video quality, size, screen quality, buttons and ease of use.
So thats my 2c.
It is interesting to see how many people also own, or have all, all three devices.
Note that my Captivate has a custom ROM.
Lol, As much as people diss the captivate it's hard to find another android phone that can match it.

I returned the Inspire because of all of those reasons, but the Atrix had even more problems than that.
I had the atrix...it may be better on paper but I'll stick with the captivate

I got my Atrix, and no way am I going back to my Captivate full time... I'll miss the Captivate's screen, but in the end, the Atrix is a superior phone. Just waiting for my unlock code now so I can actually use it on my carrier, but damn, its insanely fast! Still keeping my Captivate for backup purposes and to satisfy my flashing addiction.
One thing I wish manufacturers would include, dual sim slots... Then I wouldn't need 2 separate phones, one for home and one for work... Seems simple enough and wouldn't be very costly to add, considering all the cheap Chinese knockoff phones come with dual and even triple (dual GSM and a single CDMA) sim slots which all work simultaneously.
Other than that and the inferior screen compared to the Captivate, it's pretty hard to complain about the Atrix, I hope the devs get around the bootloader or Motorola finally caves in and decides to let us unlock it if we chose to (like the Xoom), but I won't complain if it doesn't happen... I can get rid of the stock launcher easily and replace it with Launcher Pro Plus, Zeam or ADW, which is really my only complaint about Blur. I'm happy it doesn't include Gingerbread yet, as it's still quite buggy and really doesn't offer much over Froyo anyways... Besides, that leaves at least 1 update that will arrive soonish where Motorola may throw in the bootloader unlock if people complain enough. ... Of course I won't be holding my breath, but it would be nice.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, I'll put it through more rigorous testing in the coming weeks after I get my unlock code, I'm sure it'll perform just fine though.

I enjoy the captivate's screen MUCH more than the Atrix. Benchmarks I have seen, in some cases the Galaxy S comes out over the Atrix. I am sure when dual core is optimized via the o/s that will change, but for now...I am sticking with the captivate. I know many are down on Samsung, but i must say a Galaxy S 2 with the tegra 2 looks very tasty to me...

I'd be all over the Galaxy S 2 if it still had a 4" screen (and possibly a higher resolution), but the 4.3" screen is the deal breaker for me. Yes, I realize that the screen's quality is far superior to the Atrix's, but when all things are considered, the Atrix makes up for it in raw specs and awesome accessories...
The Captivate is already huge for a phone (in my opinion), I can't imagine using anything bigger than that. Thickness isn't a big concern for me (I don't see why people are so obsessed with how thin phones are, a mm or 2 really doesn't make a huge difference... But meh, to each his/her own), but the overall height and width is what really bothers me, at 125mm (~5"), it's huge compared to the Atrix's 117mm (~4.5") or even the Captivate's 121mm (~4.7")...
I'm more interested to see how well Samsung's dual core Exynos processor performs than the Tegra 2 on the Galaxy S 2, knowing how snappy the Hummingbird currently is and how long it kept the performance crown, I have no doubts that the Exynos will be able to hold its own against, and possibly even beat the Tegra 2.
And yes, I completely agree, until we see some optimizations in the OS and apps for dual core SOCs, there really won't be a huge difference between single and dual cores in terms of performance... Thankfully, Tegra 2 optimized apps and games are starting to pop up on the Market, so it's only a matter of time. Benchmarks really aren't a good way to measure performance between single and dual cores, they're not very accurate with single cores either (they vary greatly between different kernels, yet real world performance remains the same), so I take synthetic benchmark results with a grain of salt.
Either way, dual cores are still very much in their infancy, it can only get better from here, and if past phones are any indication, we're in for a hell of a year in terms of Android goodness.
Well I have played with an Evo, 4.3 inch screen, and I can handle it pretty nicely in my hands. I can't imagine much bigger though for a phone myself.
Phones and basically netbooks now. Not quite up to the power a laptop, but soon that will change. I do like the docks for the Atrix, but do not really want to pay $500 for it. I can get a good laptop for the price now. I want portable power in a small package.
I would say that the tegra will have a slight advantage only on the fact that there will be more software optimized to run on it most likely. Nvida is a big company imop that leads the pc gpu market.
Certainly going to be a GREAT YEAR for 'smartphones'...(almost think the name needs to change soon...
I have the captivate and nexus one right now, had the Atrix when it came out but took it back.
now I only use the Captivare to either play games or as a backup if the Nexus 1 dies on me.
Played with an atrix. Couldn't find a justification to buy it. Not very impressive. Liked the inspire more, but still not enough to give up the captivate

i was going to get the Atrix because of the lapdock but i read its not very functional as for the trackpad and a bit too pricey. still happy with my cappy, good thing we have developers busy making our captivate better everyday, since at&t is too busy with the iphone

there are so many of these threads and soo many people have things they like about the captivate over there other phone. i messed with the atrix and like the webtop view but wish it did more than run firefox and web apps. it would be great if the phone view could be opened in multiple windows having all the active apps open at the same time if you wish but i guess you cant get everything. also a full text editor would be cool. i know it has office apps but a more desktop worthy app would be awesome in the webtop. but hearing that the inspire and atrix have lesser call quality makes me shy away from the atrix. the call quality is one of the best things about the captivate. plus the atrix does look a bit cheap with the back cover though i am gealous of the fingerprint reader and hdmi port.
now i want to put ubuntu on my phone so i can out do the atrix in the "hey my phone is a computer" catagory. my graphics benchmarks are already better. now we just need to find someone who can write a driver to get hdmi out from the usb port... hmmm i need to get my brother to stop playing wow, quit his night job and dev for android..
My friend bought and HD7, and as I played with it, the same charm the captivate had when I first saw it was pretty much non-existant. The Captivate is anything but perfect, but it is also anything but terrible. Oh, and it looks really bad ass too

What do you think? Seeing what android does on 4 cores still doesn't make me miss android and it's poor responsiveness and lag. I'll stick with my Lumias. That said, the One X jumping onboard the polycarbonate train behind Nokia was not a bad move, it's certainly their best looking device to date and if Nokia wasn't around, a WP7 variant might be my next phone.
Stick with the Lumias you have up for trade in the "Wanting to sell" forum? It is understandable why you don't like Android...you just don't know what you are doing. Two sources that are known for mocking wp7 and being wrong about it as opposed to those who say that at least the second Gen devices will and the Apollo tests on the lumia 900 and 610? Odds are in my favor, not that I won't pick up a new device then anyway.

Honestly I don't really like the One X. Tegra is 100% marketing crap. it's ridiculous that you have to deal with a browser forced to suck due to the stupid companion core that doesn't let the quad core goodness kick in. To me the One S is a much better phone: it's more pocketable, it has a good S4 SOC doing its job flawlessly (and smoking Tegra pretty much everywhere). The One X is such a waste. Also, I really don't get why pretty much every OEM is pushing for making bigger and bigger screens month after month. Nowadays if you wanna have a phone with good internals you have to carry a ****ing tablet in your pocket, everything else is "mid range". Honestly the GS2 was already too big for me. I'm pretty sure at some point I'll be forced to use an iPhone because everything else will be too big for my pockets. I really hope that at least on WP I'll still be able to find some decently specced device with a 4" screen in the future, I really don't like where the market is heading. By the way, the 900 is way too big and heavy for my taste. I'm 174 cm tall and I wear relatively skinny jeans, I'd look like a moron carrying something like that around in a pocket, not to mention that I'll drop it make it look like crap it in a couple days. Lumia 900 aint bad, it's just android is far better in terms of user control. It's understandable why you don't like android, it has a learning curve, but heck, once you start tweaking your phone, mastering it... god it's so much damn fun you'll do it just for the sake of tweaking it more and more. AND every tweak will make your phone faster and better than it is as a stock phone.

I have both, but Lumia is going on sale. too limited for now IMO and seeing how good performance is on my X, i wont miss WP7 smoothness ATM. Also, my Lumia never gets close to the LTE speeds my X (and last phone, Vivid) get. My One X gets around 22-30mbps and lumia averages at 5-8mbps... No clue why. Lumia feels more solid though and like the weight of it
Im sure ill look at next gen WP8 phones from Nokia later on, but I rather have everything I need now rather than wait for something better having a somewhat limited feel with my phone

went through that phase, I was crack-flashing roms and kernels just to create the smoothest experience possible. Then, I tried wp7 and it was smoother than anything android could produce out of the box.
Half the guy mustache is missing. Lol.
Too bad the OS is hampering the Lumia camera back.

The software/hardware conflict with the camera is sad, but not as bad as the conflict with every android phone and the general UI of it all. I'll take a camera that's a bit grainy in the dark over lag and instability any day.

Hey I love that everything looks way better on that 5" screen but l feel it looks ridiculous when you're holding it up to your ear while on a call. And a 3.5" screen is way too small to do anything other than make calls and sms. 4.3 is perfect for me. But it does look like 4.3+ is going mainstream now. And I thought girls wouldn't buy them either, but in the last few days I've seen 2 women holding Notes. So hey, no need to worry fellow nerds ;-)

Battery life - User dependant. Also other factors can impact this such as signal strength, type of data used, screen brightness. Looking at the battery stats thread it seems fine, better than my HOX and that's saying something.
10GB of user space available. 4GB for system & 2GB for apps. Plenty for apps. You have 10gb available to you for music, movies, photos etc. For some this is enough for others not so much. But with the ability to sync items to cloud storage for most it shouldn't be an issue.
Heat - Can't comment, but from various reading it seems cooler than other devices.
Not got the device but comparing to let's say the SGS2 this seems to have a higher resolution screen despite having a pentile screen.
Audio - Read it has one of the cleanest outputs on a mobile device, not heard it personally but it should be fine.
CPU - The S4 is one of the best dual cores around, so much there is a shortage and pretty soon they will switch to the S3. So grab the S4 version whilst you still can. It's plenty fast and outbenches some of the quads out there.
Sense - HTC's overlay, you'll love it or hate it. I love it. Has good contact management, lovely widgets, good for social networking, and such but can be a memory hog.
Camera - HTC has done a good job on the camera front. Like my HOX I like the pictures that it takes and the burst mode is a blessing. The software is also good and easy to use.
LED - This has a notification light, albeit 2 colours only compared to some other devices but at least it has one.
To sum it up it's a good mid range device. And should serve you well. Not having the device myself I'm only giving you my thoughts from reading reviews and taking some parts of my HOX.

I'd say think about longer term, it's an older device. The One S is the newer device and I'd be thinking about Jelly Bean the next android version. One S being newer would more likely be quicker to get it than the XE. It'll have more support from HTC.
Looking at the specs of both phones:
HOS is faster,
HOS reportedly has better battery life,
HOS has better screen in regards to viewing angles and sunlight compared to the first generation SLCD, again this could be subjective,
HOS is thinner and ligther,
HOS has the better camera,
HOS has native Sense 4 support,
HOS has 1gb of RAM compared to XEs 768MB,
You'll enjoy either but if you can I'd opt for the HOS if storage space isn't that important to you.

I have both the Sensation and One S and there is really no comparison, the One S is much better. I still like my Sensation but the One S is better looking and feeling, has better battery life and a nicer screen, and is much faster.
I haven't had any of the problems that people have reported here (sensitive button, poor reception etc.). Battery life has been good for me so far, and while it does warm up when you're using it heavily it's not "hot" by any means.
The lack of SD slot is not really a problem for me, but whether you can live with it depends on your usage. I've never used more than 4GB of SD card on my Sensation, so the 10GB on board is more than enough.
The only problems I would be concerned about are:
1) Chipping on the black version. I honestly think it's overblown (like most issues with all phones, only people who have problems speak up), but if you are really worried about it get the silver one. It looks even better IMO and it won't chip as the finishing process is different.
2) Getting the 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 version instead of the 1.5GHz S4. The S3 is the previous generation chip, used in the Sensation, and is slower (despite the higher clock speed, the architecture is different) and uses more power. I don't know if there's a way to tell what you're going to get beforehand, though. Only thing I can think of is if you see "1.7GHz" anywhere on or near it, stay away.

Speaker for the HOX is fine, not as loud as say the SGS3 but it's consistent where as the SGS3 can be distorted on higher volumes. I prefer the ringtone sounds out of the HOX than SGS3.

Very good! Call quality is great for me.
Loud (can adjust the volume) and clean.
You have dual mics, so any background noise is blocked out Obviously extreme noise like cars racing right beside you and loud music might not be completely blocked out and besides you won't be able to make the other person out anyway

I've just upgraded to this phone from the Desire S. I was thinking about getting the One X or the S3 too but I want a high end mobile phone not a mini tablet. This phone is amazing coming from a rooted desire S, its so fast and smooth I don't plan on rooting it.
My advise is to simply get this phone.

Are you asking me or someone else?
1) The battery life on this phone sucks. Expect to be getting no more than 4 hours of usage on average. The iphone 4/4s gets a solid 6 hours of usage. Thats 150% more battery life and I don't need to fiddle with the settings at all to achieve this.
2) The hardware has major design flaws. First of all the black one has that chipping problem with the paint. Well I have used my phone for less than 2 months and it looks butchered as hell. People complain about the iphone 4/4s, well I dropped a gazillion times and it still looked almost brand new when I sold it. I dropped the 1S one time! and the paint already came off. The front camera is recessed and gathers dust like crazy. It's impossible to clean it because its recessed and the dust has no where to go. Crap and dust also builds up near the top plastic cap. The speakers are also located exactly on the back of the phone. So if you put your phone on your table, you can't hear it ringing. Not only that the volume is so low. I missed tons of calls.
3) The community for this phone sucks. There is barely any activity on the fora and development for custom roms is stagnating. I mean sense is crap and there is only like 1 guy working on cm9? And correct me if I am wrong but the last version of AOKP is like from 3 weeks ago with tons of bugs. Now look at the Galaxy Nexus or the 1X fora. Or look at the SGS3 fora and that phone has not even been completely released yet. Its crazy. And this is worrying cause even sense has tons of bugs. There is for example this 3g/H switching that still hasn't been fixed as far as I know.
4) Then there is this low resolution pentile screen. Well its definitely ok and you shouldn't worry about it. But you WILL notice a huge difference if you put it next to the nexus, 1X or the iphone 4/4s and you will run in to all kinds of trouble with apps. For example while my own 720p videos looks good on this phone, youtube videos will look crap no matter how high you put the settings. There are tons of these annoying things. The screen is the reason why its not quite yet a flagship device while it could have been.
That being said I think its the best android phone on the market. Its the fastest android phone on the market. It doesn't have a cheap flimsy plastic body and it has a thin and light design. Aluminum feels really good on the hand especially when its cold. Its like 100 dollars/euro cheaper than the 1X and SGS3. I'd wait for the iphone 5 though. And if that turns out to be nothing or if the wait is too long then go ahead and purchase the 1S cause thats what I recommend out of the top3 android phones.

The screen is the reason why its not quite yet a flagship device while it could have been.
That being said I think its the best android phone on the market. Its the fastest android phone on the market. It doesn't have a cheap flimsy plastic body and it has a thin and light design. Aluminum feels really good on the hand especially when its cold. Its like 100 dollars/euro cheaper than the 1X and SGS3. I'd wait for the iphone 5 though. And if that turns out to be nothing or if the wait is too long then go ahead and purchase the 1S cause thats what I recommend out of the top3 android phones.

Once again, all of that is in YOUR opinion and from your usage only as well, plenty of people including me have had the exact opposite to you. Just because you experience problems doesn't mean that every one else will....
1. Is that on screen time your talking about? If so that is very good! (depending on usage and screen brightness) No other android phone gets anywhere near that unless the screens are set to like 0% and airplane mode enabled for a bit. Just look at my review and you will see the usage that I am getting from a single charge, now go and find me an android phone on stock ROM with a stock battery that can beat that (apart from the motorola razzr for obvious reasons). The iphone 4/4s also seem to have a problem with battery life for quite a few people, heck apple have even released a number of updates iirc to try and fix the battery drain
Plus don't forget that the iphone 4/4s doesn't have the same amount to do as an android phone.
2. The MAO issue is not a "hardware" problem, but a design fault.... Also I have had my phone since release day and still have no signs of chipping anywhere apart from inside the USB port plus HTC have addressed this now as they have got a design, which has a bevelled USB and less sharper edges. Well you were extremely lucky with your 4s then as due to the build of it and being mostly glass, the screen is almost always guaranteed to shatter when dropped......

It all depends on where abouts the ground impacts the mobile, you could be lucky or not so lucky with any device. If you want to be safe than sorry then a case is a necessary item for all mobiles, even the GS 2. Some devices are just more durable than others.
I have had no problems with dust getting under my screen, had my mobile since April, yes dust does gather in the front camera part, however, a quick blow and wipe with a pencil in a cloth sorts that problem out.
Emmmm what? The volume is amplified a wee bit when it is placed on the desk due to that reason, you can raise the volume as well you know or use a louder ring tone, you must be pretty deaf if you can't hear your mobile ringing......
3. The community isn't great, but it is starting to pick up now especially since the kernel source was posted, there are a few good ROMs from what I have read such as trickdroid and leedroid. Sense is crap in your opinion, many people including me love it and I for one won't be changing to a stock ICS ROM as I don't want to loose the features of sense, which IMO are better than the alternatives. The gallery, dialer, calendar, clock app are superb and not to mention the sense camera along with all the features, which you won't find on any other mobile or stock ICS ROM. Of course the galaxy nexus is going to have a damn good developing community, it's only the official/stock android phone that all the developers use to develop apps for and was the first phone to have a 720P display. The developing community here will never be as good as the the 1X or GS 3 community as they are the "flagship" devices and the phones that everyone will go for just for because of that "term"
Also the tegra chipset is apparently proving to be hard to work with for the developers with the 1X due to nvidia lack of support.
What are these bugs you speak off? I haven't had any problems with mine, super stable, super quick and smooth, multi-tasking is fine as I have disabled a lot of sense stuff and apps that I don't need and am using apex etc. instead.
If you look at my other post addressing issues you will see that I don't have the 3G/H bug, along with many other people.
The iphone is well known to have signal issues as well, not remember the 4 or 4s release where people were complaining about terrible signal, and apple said essentially "you're holding the phone the wrong way" and had to give out free bumper cases to solve the issue as it was a problem with the new antenna that they were using......
4. There is no problem with the screen, sure it ain't 720P and doesn't use RGB matrix, but it is perfectly good and better than most other mobiles screens apart from the ones you mentioned along with a couple of SE mobiles. The screen is nice and sharp still, the only areas I notice the pentile matrix is with white text on black backgrounds and some icons and even still I have to put my eyes right up to the screen. Plus the reason HTC went with with the pentile version is because the battery life is better with it than the RGB version (same reason Samsung went with pentile on the GS 3 instead of RGB). What kind of trouble have you run into with all these apps that you speak of because of the screen? What on earth are you talking about again??? Youtube videos will look crap no matter what settings you put them on??? The youtube videos look great.
Seriously, it sounds to me like you have a faulty one s if that is truly what you are experiencing.......
And after all that you still think the 1S is the best android device there is

Just buy it. It's a fine phone. These have been snapped up by many in the UK past few days due to a cheap contract deal so many more HOS users in the pipeline.
