General Question About IMEI Unlocking - General Questions and Answers

I have always wondered, with all these services for unlocking phones via IMEI, how does this generally work. I mean, sure we know the carriers have either the codes or the specific algorithms used to obtain the codes by IMEI. However, how to all these services get their hands on either? Also, if they are so easily obtained (judging by the number of services claiming the ability to unlock phones), why is it so hard for an average person to obtain one without paying a service to do it? Are they only sold/obtained in batches of IMEI's, perhaps being prohibitively expensive for one person? If the algorithims used are known, which they must be by someone other than the carriers, then why can't someone just write software to accomplish the task? Say some opensource developers. I know there are plenty of those who would give such software away free if possible.
Some things I have always wondered about IMEI unlocking. Basically, how can all these services to it, but a person cannot?

Moving to Q&A area.

Thats the question that has me somehow frustrated the last days! Specially since I moved to Blackberry, which is like very dumb plat, I cant believe that kind of basic hacking is so much underwraps.

Hai i will help You,You cannot i mean a normal person cannot get the unlock code,It's based on the Network Database and network provider only generate the code based on Mobile Phone IMEI Number and Model...So they have code in their Data base,they can't guess by others,so you need to pay for it..Nowadays some persons have develop some calculators and programs and to generate a default code based on IMEI,But it will not work always,so payable cost is best for PDA phones for Normal Nokia DCt Phones and other old phones free code is useful...Others cannot generate the unlock code default method..It's too hard,Here Unlocking4free.com/unlock-your-phone you can get the unlock code for some mobile phones at free of cost and unlock it.

Super Sim Clone and others

I have searched thru these forums trying an many combo's as I could think of and couldn't find it so hopefully this isnt a repeat set of questions.
-In the Bourne Supremacy, Jason Bourne makes a copy of somebody's sim card which allowed his phone to be on the same call as that person at the same time. All the references I can find to sim cloning state that the second phone must be switched off (or it causes some kind of problem?). So is there any such way to do that with GSM? The only reason I ask is because I work for a CDMA service provider, at sometimes during an ESN swap/upgrade the system will not release the old ESN. The result seems to be that both phones ring at the same time (Though only one can answer). Basically can it be done or is it movie magic?
-During my searches I saw many results for IMEI cloning. Im not sure if I understand why you would want to do this. Some ppl wanted to trick a service provider into giving them service, and I guess some wanted to use a phone that had been banned on a network(?). But really other than using a stolen or banned phone, whats the reason for the popularity of this issue?
-Also I unlock every phone I get, and it looks like there are many US AT&T users here that use or need unlock software. AT&T's general policy nowadays is that they will supply you with the codes for no charge. Just call in and say you bought the phone and will not be using their service. Basically no question asked. Tmobile will give you the code after 90 days with active service, and might give you the code if you arent planning on using their service. So is there another reason for unlocking the phones thru software as opposed to just getting the code? (Is it better, does it do more for you?)
And not a question but a huge, THANK YOU SO MUCH to all of you guys for doing what you do. VP3G's 8525 ROM is awesome (^_^)y
No
in regards to the sim, NO

[Q] How does unlocking a phone by IMEI work nowadays?

There use to be free unlocking calculators for the old phone models. But it seems that it's impossible to unlock a modern phone for free. What I don't understand is how it works nowadays. You have to send the IMEI to a reseller, then wait for days (1 to 5) to get your code back.
I thought that smart hackers were profiting from their own unlocking calculators, created by themselves, but it seems that the delay getting the code is because some databases have to be accessed. And depending of the company that locked the phone that could be harder and more expensive to do.
So, how does it really work? Who are the original sellers and unlocking code creators?
Thanks!
Wish I could help.I'm also having to wait for my unlock code tio be sent.all I did was call up t mobile and asked about unlocking.have them the imei.they sent it to samsung and now I'm waiting for the code for my vibrant.it was all free.

What do you mean "they sent it to Samsumg"? Is there a way to cheat companies to unlock their own phones?
Phones are simlocked to inibith usage of other sim cards different from the one of the operator that gave you the phone: on this we all agree BUT in all the countries it's possible to unlock the mobile after a definied time, in italy for example is 9 months under payment and 18 months for free after purchase just going to your operator: many people don't know this really simple mechanism.
Here is the function of giving them your IMEI code: the algoritmh, specific for every operator, use your IMEI to calculate a number that must be the same that is written inside your phone: that's why they ask for IMEI and OPERATOR

But is the algorithm really known or do unlockers get the unlock codes using insiders that work for the operator company? So this workers would illegally pick code by code from some database since they have to have the unlock codes in order give them for free after X months anyway.
Think they just use software generators.... nowadays also Windows versions and software that costs millions went leaked...

but basicly if someone would manage to flash his IMEI with other from completely different phone he no longer uses would it do the job?
I had the same problem with my old Samsung Jet, they wanted me to send it to them over a 30 day period costing me £25!
If you get the paid unlock code means the code provider get the Code from the particular Network Data base,...so it's Legal one...Then in free code generator the calculators generate the code,but the code generate by the program so it generate default codes.....I got the code for Unlocking the Phone from Network lock quickly and free of cost,i got the correct free Unlock code for my Nokia,Samsung Phones at here www.unlock-free.com and Unlock it........
I believe the reason that calculators are no longer possible is due to the fact that the manufacturer/provide uses random algorithms to generate the unlock codes, and are not based on the IMEI. That is, the unlock code can only be found in their database as they did not use the IMEI as part of the algorithm to generate the code in the first place; hence there is no way to reverse engineer them for newer/more common devices.

False. If this was true, then any hacker... anyone could do this. All unlock codes are based on your IMEI and phone model (carrier,country,etc).

Believe me, it's not as easy at it seems to get SIM unlock codes. Your best bet is to find either a trustworthy site online, or call your provider and tell them you're travelling internationally and you need to change SIM cards... they may charge you but it only needs to be done once. However, if you have patience eventually someone will write an app to do it for free. But that could take months, even years. I'm currently trying to figure out a way to unlock mine without doing either of the methods outlined above and I've spent days researching this and I still am not much closer...

well this is my understanding the unlock code database will be having 2 primary keys 1 will be the IMEI number and another one is the key which will be used for generating the unlock code which is unknown to the outside world.
so when some one request for the unlock code the service provider, (either the phone company or thirdparty) have to refer thru this 2nd key for generating the key but since the key generation is done from the manufacture end the database is acting like a blackbox.

just get your imei off the web to save you from millions of copies that are likely coming up
hello, some time before I digged into SONY unlock, my conclusion is that it's impossible to brute force or you really need an insider in that company.
// STEP:
// t = NCK + SALT
// h = sha256(t)
// 9.times { h = sha256(h) }
// assert(h == HASH)
// IMEI: 353588050129**7
// NCK : 647765421762**43
SALT and HASH are programmed in trim area, and don't know how to calculate those two, only way is to get the phone and extract them.
I always thought that codes were pre calculated when phones are manufacturered.
I know for some phones the ROOT AWAY app (on samsungs) takes off the sim lock.
@tewilove, your finding is sony-specific or docomo-specific? As you know the same Sony models is sold in Japan by a different operators - Docomo, Softbank and KDDI. But always with a sim lock.
With root we could read the whole TA, so we could calculate unlocking code? What do you think?

If they don't use the IMEI, then why do the unlockers ask for it? There should be no need for it if that was the case, unless, it's just to verify your phone model or something?

How to unlock any phone (almost) 100% free

I have been searching the internet extensively trying to learn how to do this... And i found it. First of all, the companies that provide "unlock codes" have only one source to go to (at least legally) to gain these unlock codes that are unique to the MID and that is the phones manufacturer. But being that they sold the phones to provider X (being whatever provider relevant) The rights to unlock them are technically theirs (in most cases) And because you OWN the phone, and its legal to unlock them, your provider (technical support) will unlock it (if you own it) ... youre welcome.
So in a nutshell, if its a Verizon phone, call Verizon and they will unlock it. This is all those rip off companies do.
Oh yeah and by the way: The reason im posting this is because i see so many threads on "how do i do it?" and people keep referring them to "theres a company..."
The only issue is that most carriers have a period of time, usually six months or so, after the release of a phone before they will provide the code to you. That is why people go the route of paying for the code from a third party or trying to figure a way out to do it by editing files on the phone itself

They may provide the code but they really don't want to. Phone providers don't want you to unlock your phone because they want you to use your phone with their network.

The codes relevant are the same codes they acquire from the manufacturer. These companies are simply "middle men" if its illegal to unlock the phone (patents, corporate contracts, etc...) then they will say no, until such a time. But they will also say no to the 3rd party.
In at least some cases, the companies selling codes do so using their own code generators. They reverse engineer the algorithms used by carriers, then calculate it themselves from your IMEI. And as said above, carriers often have limits as to when you can get your phone unlocked. It is not illegal to unlock it before this point, the carrier just won't give you the code. You can get the code from another source perfectly legally at this point. Or you can unlock by some sort of hack, depending on your phone.

note edge unlock code

I have a samsung note edge. It was sent me from japan ( au locked). Firstly it had lolipop and i some how managed to unlock it temporarily through Code( #7465625*638*#). Since I uprgaded it to Marshmallow that code seemed to not work now and it is why i am here to ask help me unlock my note edge. I am here in Nepal and professional help is very difficult to get or very expensive. Also online unlocking website payment is also not possible here from nepal in current circumstance.
Now when i Put above code it asks for network unlock code. Now where can i get that network unlock code. please help me Guys.
If you just type in cell Unlocker or smartphone unlock code or carrier unlock cell phone on to Google you should get some good results I have personally used one called "I.done apps" I only used this one because this site offered a specific method for a specific device I had at the time. it worked fine but you might find better prices elsewhere you should be able to get an unlock code for the Note Edge on any one of the major websites that offer cell phone unlock codes they generally also explain to you how to input the code. I can't endorse any one site and I don't work for any of them either but I can definitely tell you that the cell phone unlocking sites that are legitimate sites definitely do work. there's always the chance online of paying for a service that isn't exactly what it seems but if you just read into it a little bit and pick a popular site that has https and secure checkout you shouldn't have any issues. Have a nice day and enjoy the Android scene

[CLOSED] Phone Unlocking PC Software, ESN\IMEID software

hey guys, Ive been in the tech repair\refurbish industry for around 20 years. Rooting phones is no problem, Ive managed to break a couple apple id locked phones free also, but I cant find the legit software to carrier unlock phones, bypass frp locks and I need software for changing imei\esn numbers. I had names of software and even demos at one point considering the software was like 2 grand. Anyhow I primarily want to be able to carrier unlock phones. I know it can be done via usb using pc software, but I dont know what software to use. If there is way to get the software free, etc. I also want to be able to repair FRP locks. I know it can be done because after fighting an s10 for days when they were new, i paid 50 dollars and a guy bypassed it using team viewer through my pc, He did it so fast I couldnt really grab any of the software names. I realized the software is likely uncrackable and expensive but Im to a point that I need to be able to do these things myself. If any of you guys know what software i need and what would be best that would be great. I would be happy to know which software is required for is best, and which is more affordable but also decent, and if there is anything that can be obtained free to accomplish these things.
At the moment I have aboue 10 a32 5gs most of which just need carrier locks removed, and a couple need frp locks repaired. Please point me in the right direction. google turns up zilch. Thanks ahead guys!!
Do you know of any tool to unlock cell phones from T-mobile and verizon? I have two E5 Play bikes from those companies with blocked bands
MOD ACTION:
Thread closed.
If anything requires payment, pay for it. Carrier unlocks or any discussion about them while payments are due are not welcome on XDA. Changing IMEI is illegal in most countries. So any discussion about them is also not welcome.
