Thanks for the posting the spec. One mm thinner than TP2 which is welcome. Wish it could be lighter than TP2. Well I suppose you can't have everything. All in all, it is a respectable upgrade to TP2. Hope it will come to Telstra Australia.

I may get that Sprint one
Tilt screen ftw

That looks amazing compared to my TP2!

looks like the new htc 7 pro will have an fm radio on the cdma version this time around. according to phonearena.com. added link in original post.
unfortunately. sprint version does not come with 4g capabilities. hopefully by the time of release. that is added.

If this doesn't come to AT&T then I'm switching to Sprint.

no use for me i guess as its CDMA phone...

HTC have just announced that it's coming to the UK next year.
That means GSM versions! I'm now considering cancelling my Desire HD order and waiting for this badboy instead!

unless MS makes some sort of 6.5 legacy emulator on board, this is not going to be a "Pro" business device since it can't run many business apps already developed.
this looks like awesome hardware and I would totally upgrade otherwise, but without this legacy support, I'm left out in the cold.

If this doesn't come to AT&T then I'm switching to Android. I can't switch from AT&T, and I'm very conflicted on all the AT&T Android / WinPho7 phones, but the Android phones are swaying me. I'll give it six months, and if there are no rumors of an AT&T version, that may be it for me.

That phone they provisioned for AT&T is about as useless as the HTC Pure. When do people actually sit and watch a movie on their phone? And those speakers? Really, is that necessary? Chances are if you have the money for one of these phones you will also own a laptop. That is what a laptop is for. Give me a Cot Damn qwerty keyboard you idiots. I will be real pissed if AT&T doesn't get that 7 PRO.

I watch movies, TV shows on my phone all the time. Comes in handy at airports (I travel quite a bit) or on a plane, when you don't have the time (or don't want) to boot up your laptop. Also great for killing time on public transportation, when you're not carrying a laptop.
That said, I have no need for slide out speakers and would greatly have preferred the 7 Pro. The slide out speaker is really just an "enhancement", it doesn't really add anything to the phone. All smartphones have a speaker, this just has a enhanced one. Where the keyboard is actually an added feature, adding a hardware keyboard where there otherwise would not be one. So the slide-out speaker is really not a great value added feature.

If you've already seen the Xiaomi M1 announcement about a month ago, well, forget it, because Xiaomi has already made some significant changes since then. What we've just learned from today's Beijing launch event is that the M1 -- now officially "Xiaomi Phone" -- no longer packs a 1.2GHz dual-core chip; instead, it's been given a bump to a Qualcomm MSM8260 SoC, thus becoming the first Chinese phone to sport a 1.5GHz dual-core chip. As part of the Snapdragon package, the phone is also powered by a powerful Adreno 220 graphics processor, which will no doubt make good use of the phone's 1GB RAM and a staggering 4GB ROM. Oh, and that ¥2,600 (about US$410) price tag? It's now ¥1,999 ($310), and will be available for pre-order on August 29th for October delivery. Read on for more surprises!
Update: We've just been informed that there will also be a 1.2GHz version available for an even cheaper price!
Update 2: Our hands-on post is up!
Xiaomi Phone with MIUI OS: a $310 phone with 1.5GHz dual-core SoC and other surprises
Unlike most phones with a 1400mAh or 1500mAh battery these days, the Xiaomi Phone gets a ginormous 1930mAh cell instead, and we're promised to get two days worth of real-life usage out of it -- CEO Lei Jun emphasised the "real-life" part, so we shall see. Another surprise -- albeit an odd one -- is that this phone supports both GPS (with A-GPS) and Russia's GLONASS, meaning President Medvedev can navigate around his country just fine while updating his Weibo Twitter.
As for the rest, you get a 4-inch 480 x 854 LCD courtesy of Sharp (LCD for better outdoor performance, and 4 inches for Asian ergonomics), three touch buttons below the screen, a customisable "Mi key" (camera shutter or Weibo; long press for home screen), an eight megapixel camera with an F2.4 lens, and a dual antenna design that plays well with any kind of grip (obviously a little wink at Apple). Dimension-wise we're looking at 125mm x 63mm x 11.9mm, weighing 149g or 5.3 ounces -- just a tad heavier than the iPhone 4. As for accessories, we're told that there will cases in at least seven bright colors, along with spare batteries of the same set of colors (that's how awesome Xiaomi is).
Of course, let's not forget the real star here: the MIUI (pronounced "mee-you-eye") OS, which is a low-level custom UI based on Android 2.3.5. There's no question about MIUI's rapidly increasing popularity in recent years (Xiaomi quoted a user base of about 500,000), but if you insist on trying other Android flavors on Xiaomi's hardware, then you'll be pleased to know that this phone lets you flash whatever firmware you like.
If you're starting to doubt the Xiaomi Phone's reliability, you shouldn't -- we've been told that this phone's been thoroughly torture-tested in the lab, simulating two years worth of usage. "This is why we take much longer than shanzhai factories to make a phone," said the CEO. We'll see about that in two months time, really looking forward to it.

Just looking for some insight on phones coming out. I love my nexus s 4g. The gs3 sounds good.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda app-developers app
From all the phones I've used, I liked the Galaxy Nexus most (although I do prefer the Nexus S for being able to use UMS transfer mode, having higher sound quality and not having an oversized screen).
Selling my Nexus and buying the S3 was one of the decision I regretted due to:
-not getting fast updates and variates of stock roms like the Nexus
-poor built quality, even comparing to the Galaxy Nexus
-the stock Jelly Bean on the Nexus was a better and smoother experience for me than Touchwiz on a quadcore processor.
Seems like you are on Sprint, I heard the CDMA version of Galaxy Nexus have very poor radio so skip that, not to mention they always get updates a few months later than the GSM version. But if you do plan to get another Samsung phone, such as a CMDA S3, ask in their forum first if they have any signal issues.
So maybe the S3 is your best choice if you don't mind the built quality. The renamed HTC One X for Sprint may be a good choice, but honestly I am used to how open and easy it is to root and unlock Samsung phones, I can't deal with HTC and Sense, but I know I'm biased.
Rumor is Google will announce the new LG Nexus the end of October, but I guess its too late by then and the CDMA version if available would probably be till next year anyway. The LG Optimus G is supposed to have excellent built quality. Sprint will be selling it, it's basically a flagship device, the the Qualcomm S4 Pro chip is supposed to be super fast, they'll be a 13MP camera (for Sprint model, AT&T is 8MP), 32gb of storage, 2GB ram, etc. It seems like people like to slate the LG brand, but on paper it looks like a very compelling device.
Or maybe its time to move to GSM network where there are more choices to choose from. I'm looking to move away from Samsung too since their built quality of recent phones has really turn me off. I wouldn't blame you if you get an iPhone5 and resell it to get an Android phone and some profit in the process.

This. my next phone will be on a gsm network and will not be purchased from a carrier. I'm tired of my phone being held prisoner. And the part about the CDMA updates is true. Sprint got both ICS and JB several months after t-mo. If you want early updates, this is the carrier to have a subsidized. They get push notifications as soon as google pushes the source to AOSP. Personally I'd still rather buy it from google directly, but there's nothing wrong with a t-mo subsidized device either. The updates will come at the same time.
You can check the review for the LG Optimus G by mobiletechreview on youtube. But it seems the Sprint version won't be available until nov 11th, but preorder open at nov 1st. The ATT version seems better though due to having microsd slot and from experience ATT have faster network and faster LTE too. The Sprint version has 13mp camera though.
If you are used to the Nexus S substantial dev support (after all these freakin' years!) then the only natural path is really the Galaxy Nexus. Even the support for the SII has slowed down. I suspect it will be the same with the S3. I cannot stand mfg overlays like TW or Sense.
Can you hold onto your NS and wait to see what the new Nexus is all about?
I'm waiting for the next Nexus phone -since it should be right around the corner. If it wasn't for that though, I'd be looking at the GSIII, Razr Maxx, or G Nex.

Xiaomi mi-2 has better hardware than the s3! But you'll have to check if you can get it in the us and if its released at all! xD
I just read about it, dont know to much! Just wanted to help to expand the horizon!
Thanks for your input. But I'll just get the iPhone 5.....
Hahaha kidding
Thinking the lg nexus is sounding good.

Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
Paranoid Android (2.2.2 - 4.1.2)
Marmite Kernel (5.0 - Bedalus)
Ondemmand (Screen On) (800/100)
Ondemmand (Screen Off) (400/100)
Deep Idle (N/A - CFQ)
BLX (98 - Inverted Apps)
Black Exodus (Stock Voltage)
No doubt that nexus family will continue a tradition with a excelent quality new device.
However my biggest disappointment of nowadays phone development companies is a price of our beloved engineering jewels. Any thoughts. How mutch it will cost? I'm a big enthusiast of high end smartphones but personally not ready to sacrifice my halfmonth salary.

Lg makes great phones. Loved lg! Hate Samsung though. I'm going for either the photon Q(its a monster) or this new nexus. I juuust got my nexus from a friend.... had a Samsung transform. Horrible hardware, phone was verry verrry durable though. Masks sure you test it out before and make sure it doesn't randomly brick like most of today's hardware

You should use more high end Samsung devices beside writing them off, the transform is a very old and low end phone on cdma network. Trying to compare it to the Photon Q is like comparing a Ford Tempo to a Ferrari.
I got it when it was new, actually decent. Ask anyone and they will tell you that the s3 is plasticity. The s2 had a tendency to randomly brick because of the emmc freaking out, that's just to name a few. I wouldn't mind an s3, just saying the quality of Samsung has gone away. And if at all possible I'm going to avoid them, bad, no, horrible track record.

sorry for stealing the scene... i'm going to change my Nexus S in the next few weeks and i narrowed down the list of my wishes to the following 3 phones:
- Gnexus: would have to buy it used around the 300$ mark / will combine with a 2 years contract around 30$+
- Gnote: would buy it for 50$ on 2 years contract (30$)
- HTC One X: would get it for free on 2 years contract (30$)
What would you suggest me? i'm a Flash Addict fallen in love with paranoidandroid and JB and ATM my heart points toward the Gnote

CES 2013: Any Android QWERTY devices?

Any QWERTY devices planned for CES 2013?
Nope, but i know someone who has a "samsung pro" its like a bb but uses android
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda app-developers app
There haven't been any great or awesome Global QWERTY Androids for the entire 2012! We are edging closer to the end of slide-out QWERTYs overall, however horrific that might sound. HTC has stated at the start of 2012, that it will not focus on QWERTY phones as it consists of only a small group of buyers. Samsung launches only mid-range QWERTY phones and that too only in the US, whereas Motorola who launches high-end QWERTY phones does so only in the US as well. Sony has launched only one proper QWERTY phone and that was way back in 2011 and I have absolutely never heard of a properly LG QWERTY phone. So I would be really surprised if we do see a high-end QWERTY phone that launches globally.
Sad...........just ****ing sad.
The last Motorola QWERTY was the Photon Q on Sprint released last August. It has decent specs 4.3" screen and 1.5ghz S4 processor, but its only on Sprint. The best spec'd GSM slider appears to be the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G on T-mobile but it has At&t 3G bands, no LTE though. It has a 4" screen and a 1.5ghz S4, but only a 5MP camera.
I've not used Android before, having started with Win 6.5 on an XDA, through an Xperia X1, and onto a HTC Win phone 7, all with qwerty keyboard... Win 7 was a let-down in terms of what I could do with Word and Excel, so I am looking at an Android phone, but the over-riding requirement is a landscape sliding qwerty keyboard - so should I wait for something new which may be on the horizon, or buy whatever is currently available (not that I know what that is even) whilst I still can?
Oh, I'm in the UK... which appears to limit me still further in choice!
Many thanks,
Tref.

Motorola used to sell their Droid qwerty series overseas except they called them Milestone and they were GSM. But the Milestone 3 was the last and is the same as my Droid 3 which is stuck on Android 2.3 GB officially. If there was a Milestone 4 I'd recommend that but there never was, unless you want to import a Droid 4 and get a SIM unlock code. Or theres the Galaxy S Relay 4G from T-mobile that you could import, its newer and should be easier to get working on GSM since T-mobile is GSM.

Actually, Droid 4 is not SIM locked on Verizon, and it works on overseas GSM carriers with local SIM cards without any hacking as long as it has been updated to ICS (I'm writing this on one in Europe).

I was interested a while ago in buying a Droid 4 and use it in Europe. I decided to wait for the CES and obviously i waited for nothing.
I'd be totally glad and thankful if you can share a bit of your feelings about yours. Site reviews are nice things, but user's feelings are always better.
Thanks.

I'd be suprised not to see a Droid 5 this year, I always thought it was a popular brand for Motorola?
Never bothered with importing a Droid 4, the LTE band (700Mhz only) is worthless here in the UK. Perhaps we will see a rise in keyboard-cases for those of us who would like a keyboard. There are some decent ones for the iPhone and some chinese ones for the Note.

Any news? The situation in Europe is quite sad.. I can't understand why Motorola canceled its XT898, which could have been some sort of hope.
On the other side, Droid 4 has locked bootloader (after the Milestone I said to myself, never again), and to get to work a Photon Q is not that easy.
I don't get why no producer cares releasing a single damn QWERTY phone in Europe. Maybe they're not so popular, but given it would be the only one, I think it should have some sort of success!
I love my qwerty devices, but they're becoming rarer and rarer. After buying a Nexus 7, I think I could live without a physical keyboard and might jump on the GS4 boat.
T-Mobile G2 (Desire Z) user here and ashamed there isn't any modern, new QWERTY phones available. Can we live without them? Yes, but we can also live without SD card, 250ppi screen and quad core chips ffs.Where's my QWERTY! Also, I am still waiting for this phone that has not been released yet...

I believe there is a poll on here somewhere for those that want a decent qwerty slide phone (my requirement is one which also has an extra row for numbers)... Unfortunately I haven't made enough posts on here yet to be able to add my name to it!

Would you post the link please?
You can use photon q:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929143
I looked into the Photon Q, but with problems of finding one to important, and getting it modified (my soldering skills are not that good) was too much for me. My HTC phone 7 is at deaths door, so I finally settled on an Xperia Z. Sure enough, my fears over the keyboard are realised (can't find my way around the phone yet either, but sure I will with time).... I bought a cheap Bluetooth qwerty keyboard the next day, and it connected and worked no problem at all, but the feel is awful... have seen nicer slide cases for the iphone 5 (with a numbers row and back lit), but will it pair up ok with that? I think for the sake of £20 I will try it... planning then to butcher a case or two to make a phone I can use the way I want to! Unless... anyone has any better ideas??!
Oh, and I can't find the poll I mentioned now!
I just bogged down and bought a galaxy s4. The bigger the screen the easier it is to type. Still, I miss buttons for emulators.
This isn't the poll I meant, but is another (old) one:

a solid buy is all i can say. funtions without disappointment at all times required and even tho it came out last year it still can sit next to an s4 without being embarassed. in fact it seems the droid 4 works smoother than the s4, but just short of smoothness of an iphone. not a big deal at all. it's the first phone that has completely met my needs and i planned on sticking with it for a while anyway. if you want a qwerty slider, then this droid 4 is the best pick in the whole planet right now. photon q is like a lower spec droid 4.
unfortunate that usa customers arent able to benefit unless theyre with verizon. hopefully motorola will be smart in realizing that locking them to verizon has harmed their sales of the device. it's 2013 and ppl are still asking if it will work in their country and holding out for a droid 5 which should be due sometime at the end of the year into the beginning of the new year. for motorola to completely drop qwerty slider would be the worst about turn for a company to make who claims to be reinventing itself. there's enough of those tablet phones.. theyre all starting to look the same.. thin and lame! i like the solid feel of my droid4. the new s4s etc dont even interest me in the least even with their higher specs theyre pointless. there's only so much u can do on a powerful device with a touchscreen keyboard before it becomes a hinderance.. symbols, arrow keys and numbers all accessible as on a hardware keyboard is an advantage over software keyboards taking up 30% of the viewable screen.. like i said.. lame.
as it is motorola NEEDS a droid 5 because there will be nothing to set them apart from the competition. all fones are now flat, all have larger battery capacity, theyre even coming waterproof too and with higher specs, infrared ports and other sensors.
if motorola does the same thing with a qwerty slider it will destroy the competition. otherwise, theyll just be filing themselves with all the weeds in the field.

Not available in north america, who else is disappointed

Since the U11 was released I have been waiting and hoping HTC would do a small bezel U11 and now here it is.
Passed on the Note 8, V30 and Pixel 2 XL because I really wanted to see what HTC had up its sleeve (not that i cant still go nab one of those lol) once the rumours of the U11 plus started.
But not available in North America and also not in solar red which is arguably the nicest colour the U11 comes in.
So who else is really annoyed and disappointed in this?
Sure we will be able to buy one online/ abroad in a variety of places but still no solar red!
HTC have made a very odd decision here neglecting the North American market one would think. It certainly has me rethinking going with them since they dont seem to value us as customers.
Why don't you buy it from abroad? I bought my S7 Edge on eBay from Singapore or something. No problems.

Yes of course i can do that as I mentioned in my post it just seems like an odd business decision. HTCs mobile division has been abysmal for years, you would think they would want to try devices in as many places as possible not as few places as possible.
And i cant import a solar red one since its not offered Anywhere.

So if we do import this will it work on verizons network?
Guys just be patient.
It will be released worldwide when the time has come. In all possible colors that is.
Just wait like everybody else.
Checking on eBay regularly will help you

The main issue is that U11+
won't have all US LTE bands (like B2 for TMoUS)
probably won't support the majority of US LTE-Advanced combinations (carrier aggregation)
won't support VoLTE and WiFi Calling for US carriers

Yup, checked on the current data available on the only version (TW) of the U11+ bands supported and B2 LTE is indeed not there.... but there seems to be some positive signs that you guys might wanna get excited abt. The U11+ TW/WW version seems to support the same exact bands and are of the same exact speeds for the U11 TW/WW version; that likely means the U11+ radios are exactly the same as the U11 radios, so it is *probably* very easy for HTC to make US versions if it ever wanted to. So, keep your fingers crossed!

They are such idiots for not releasing it in solar red.
I'm absolutely disappointed that the two top contenders for my upgrade will not be available in the US, the Huawei Mate 10 and this device. I feel like the US is getting the short end of the stick this year.

The "Neglect" Is more of HTC trying to secure profits since they are and have been a dying brand even though they release great phones. The US is full of competition that they have dealt with and not won in most of their times of releasing flagships, so instead of making a lot of phones, losing profits by not selling them or losing to Samsung and Apple (again), they rather play it safe in markets where they sell decently. I mean, we can still import the phones but until HTC captures the market, we are going to continue to not get some of their best phones. Remember this is just like the M9+ that released only in India but was superior to the regular m9 and everybody (including me) complained about it lol.

I figured it was blocked forcibly by Google, since it waa being designed as the Pixel 2 Xl before Google (unwisely) scrapped it. I assumed they signed a non-compete agreement. Hopefully just temporarily. Can always just order online . Pretty pricey though.

HTC Is Making Phones Again

Hello, I wanted to share some news here and discuss about it. We probably know already HTC is busy recently with VR and the 5G hub..
HTC will release some phones again finally this summer.. probably in July. There will be a midrange phone and a flagship phone who will be the successor probably of our U12+. The midrange will be probably a snapdragon 660 and the flagship will be probably a snapdragon 865 ( the most powerful this year with 5 G ). We don't know a lot of information of the hardware about those yet.
Here some links which are more detailed: Here for the midrange and here for the flagship
What do you think of this guys? For me i find this great that HTC will making phone again this year, particularly a flagship. I like a lot of things from HTC , like the quality, the design.. the Sense UI.. I am still rocking with my U12 +, we are still on android 9 however. The phone deserves a new update for sure, HTC is still making small updates on some devices this year.. maybe we can still hoped for a new update from htc on it later. I still hoping for a bit, will see. Maybe is will be different with the new phone.. there was a time htc give us update faster than others.
Will i buy it? Maybe, probably, I am waiting to have more information. I hate apple at the highest points .. I have not really interested with samsung. My second choice will be google phone ( pixel) but is not perfect for me ( design still suck, not as much functionality as HTC..)
You guys are you going to buy it ? According to the poll from androidauthority from my second link, many people is interessed to buy it.
I have made a poll for it
Hi, HTC will announce two phones the 16 june! The mid range and the flagship i guess.
Taking directly from the facebook page.

So yes is the Desire pro 20 and the U20 5G the two new phones is mid range phone, maybe later a u20+ will see the day..
The question of the day is.. it worth changing the U11 or U12 for the U20? what do you think of that?
What i know it has no edge sense on it.. but also no htc sense ? This is sad.. i really love htc sense.. htc sense on pie is great.
What's your opinion about this ?

Imo change the u11 or the u12 for the u20 is a downgrade... It will always be a 2 or 3 years newer phone but I have the u12+ and I'm more than satisfied with it. The only thing these two phones have that I miss is the wide angle and the 5000mah battery. But I can live without them.
If I were searching for a new phone I would go with oneplus or pixel. Even with the rumors of the pixel 5 with the 765g, I don't think that makes a phone less of a flagship, I don't play much games and if the phone is always fast and fluid I'm ok with it!
I think this two phones will be competing with mid range xiaomis, samsungs and so on, and not for the htc fans.
Let's see how the price goes. If they can deliver a good 5g phone with a competitive price maybe they can squeeze some money to make a squeezable u20+ xD
@dioggo92
I still love my u12+ too.. Is a great phone no problem with the buttons, but sadly he will continue to become old like everything else.
Yes is true the wide angle , the big battery is nice, probably other things but I am not sure..
I have looking the phone market and pretty nothing interests me I was hoping a flagship from HTC with HTC sense and some HTC extras. I will continue to see the evolution for the HTC phone.
I have see that the pixel 5 will be a 765G. May ask you why you do not want to change to u20 but if you want a new phone you will probably taking the pixel 5? Since is the same processor you do not consider it a another downgrade like you said? I am agree with you, you should not have lags with this processor , is look a great processor.

True, I'm only thinking about changing phone next year or so, so for me it's not a deal breaker. By that time I'll see whats going on in the market. I bought this u12+ last year only because I don't buy phones from the same year. They are ridiculously expansive and will drop half the price(or less) 1 year after.
Yep, I get that. That htc sense and extra features are what I like in htc too, plus the build quality of hardware and software. Although the U12+ is not the best example in software unfortunately.
Hang to the u12+ for another year if it lasts that for you.

Android pie with htc sense on the u12+ is really great! android 10 is missing for now however.. I have read a email from htc here and is said this:: I completely understand you want to know when the Android 10 update for the U12+ will be available but due to the developing process, we cannot give you an estimated time for this update to be released. Still somes hopes for getting it.
I have read somes rumours that htc will announce a second 5g phone and should by the flagship the next months of later. I hope is will gettings some htc extras..
Maybe they are making some substantial software upgrades. The HTC sense is basically the same since htc one m7 with some new features and tweaks. Maybe u12+ will get a surprise, that would be awesome because they said they wont release new phones but would be keeping the u12+ updated but forgot pretty much about that.
Yes a surprise later will be awesome.
