Hello, I wanted to share some news here and discuss about it. We probably know already HTC is busy recently with VR and the 5G hub..
HTC will release some phones again finally this summer.. probably in July. There will be a midrange phone and a flagship phone who will be the successor probably of our U12+. The midrange will be probably a snapdragon 660 and the flagship will be probably a snapdragon 865 ( the most powerful this year with 5 G ). We don't know a lot of information of the hardware about those yet.
Here some links which are more detailed: Here for the midrange and here for the flagship
What do you think of this guys? For me i find this great that HTC will making phone again this year, particularly a flagship. I like a lot of things from HTC , like the quality, the design.. the Sense UI.. I am still rocking with my U12 +, we are still on android 9 however. The phone deserves a new update for sure, HTC is still making small updates on some devices this year.. maybe we can still hoped for a new update from htc on it later. I still hoping for a bit, will see. Maybe is will be different with the new phone.. there was a time htc give us update faster than others.
Will i buy it? Maybe, probably, I am waiting to have more information. I hate apple at the highest points .. I have not really interested with samsung. My second choice will be google phone ( pixel) but is not perfect for me ( design still suck, not as much functionality as HTC..)
You guys are you going to buy it ? According to the poll from androidauthority from my second link, many people is interessed to buy it.
I have made a poll for it
Hi, HTC will announce two phones the 16 june! The mid range and the flagship i guess.
Taking directly from the facebook page.

So yes is the Desire pro 20 and the U20 5G the two new phones is mid range phone, maybe later a u20+ will see the day..
The question of the day is.. it worth changing the U11 or U12 for the U20? what do you think of that?
What i know it has no edge sense on it.. but also no htc sense ? This is sad.. i really love htc sense.. htc sense on pie is great.
What's your opinion about this ?

Imo change the u11 or the u12 for the u20 is a downgrade... It will always be a 2 or 3 years newer phone but I have the u12+ and I'm more than satisfied with it. The only thing these two phones have that I miss is the wide angle and the 5000mah battery. But I can live without them.
If I were searching for a new phone I would go with oneplus or pixel. Even with the rumors of the pixel 5 with the 765g, I don't think that makes a phone less of a flagship, I don't play much games and if the phone is always fast and fluid I'm ok with it!
I think this two phones will be competing with mid range xiaomis, samsungs and so on, and not for the htc fans.
Let's see how the price goes. If they can deliver a good 5g phone with a competitive price maybe they can squeeze some money to make a squeezable u20+ xD
@dioggo92
I still love my u12+ too.. Is a great phone no problem with the buttons, but sadly he will continue to become old like everything else.
Yes is true the wide angle , the big battery is nice, probably other things but I am not sure..
I have looking the phone market and pretty nothing interests me I was hoping a flagship from HTC with HTC sense and some HTC extras. I will continue to see the evolution for the HTC phone.
I have see that the pixel 5 will be a 765G. May ask you why you do not want to change to u20 but if you want a new phone you will probably taking the pixel 5? Since is the same processor you do not consider it a another downgrade like you said? I am agree with you, you should not have lags with this processor , is look a great processor.

True, I'm only thinking about changing phone next year or so, so for me it's not a deal breaker. By that time I'll see whats going on in the market. I bought this u12+ last year only because I don't buy phones from the same year. They are ridiculously expansive and will drop half the price(or less) 1 year after.
Yep, I get that. That htc sense and extra features are what I like in htc too, plus the build quality of hardware and software. Although the U12+ is not the best example in software unfortunately.
Hang to the u12+ for another year if it lasts that for you.

Android pie with htc sense on the u12+ is really great! android 10 is missing for now however.. I have read a email from htc here and is said this:: I completely understand you want to know when the Android 10 update for the U12+ will be available but due to the developing process, we cannot give you an estimated time for this update to be released. Still somes hopes for getting it.
I have read somes rumours that htc will announce a second 5g phone and should by the flagship the next months of later. I hope is will gettings some htc extras..
Maybe they are making some substantial software upgrades. The HTC sense is basically the same since htc one m7 with some new features and tweaks. Maybe u12+ will get a surprise, that would be awesome because they said they wont release new phones but would be keeping the u12+ updated but forgot pretty much about that.
Yes a surprise later will be awesome.

I think the new desire s is well exactly the same as the desire but with different design gingerbread and a new CPU which isn't even a dual-core. The processor is fast I know but with honeycomb for smartphone and the sgs 2 coming soon it will be unable to compete. I'm not sure about it... anyway least desire we will get some sense with gingerbread
EDIT: I've kind of changed my mind about this, I like the desire s it fixes everything wrong with the desire. It's not much of an update from the desire. It's not amazing, its not crap it just very very good.

It's the phone that's leaked so far already, if the specs are as similar to the stock Desire as they say I won't be bothered
Thats big dissapointment... last year HTC was the best with top hardware, but today even LG is able to do more powerful phones. Goodbye HTC.
This is only the spec on 1 phone, if the HD2 surfaces as thought it could be awesome
DS looks basically like a 'woops, yes the original desire's internal memory was a bit shocking so here's a fix for it, thanks for your cash' sort of release...
Yes they can push out a phone with single core etc. for now because by the time people actually _need_ a dual core will probably be another year - but the only thing the DS looks good for is to make people happy who don't want a big phone (i.e. DHD), and don't already have a Desire
This phone is for new customers. Why you nerds need to upgrade like every month to new phone I will be happy with my Desire for several years... Been using it now over 6 months...
^^ You come onto a forum for people wanting to talk about phones and hack them and yet you call us 'nerds' - what does that make you??

You might be happy with phone like that for quiet a long time, but not everybody is like that, and to be honest, htc not anouncing a dualcore phone is BIG disapointment, coz HTC was already one of the tech leaders, delivering the latest solutions, and I still cannot believe, that HTC is dropping this completely, and taking the mainstream Facebook way instead, they will surely make loads of money on those facebook phones, but missing the top class highend might actually do some damage on reputation...

Part of me wonders if this is an interesting approach - a sort of;
1) get more people on android with nice 'mid-range' CHEAPER android phones
2) wait to see what everyone else brings out
3) bring out something better
To be honest - I think it'll be another year before I upgrade... this year is going to be mayhem for phones and I can see everyone signing up for contracts left right and centre to get something awesome - then (as usual) something better comes along

Well.. I'm really disappointed. I mean REALLY. When you compare the hardware it's almost nothing new.
HTC Desire S vs HTC Desire
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3776&idPhone2=3077
I'm a HTC fan since many years and it's hard for me to say this, but HTC is really behind now and is only trying to make money and sell us BULL****!!!
Just see the comparison and you will know what I'm talking about... minor changes. NOT EVEN THE PROCESSOR HAS CHANGED!!!
The Incredible S is also nothing new under the sun. Not even a dual-core processor... No 1GB of ram.
Seriously, HTC, WHAT THE ****?
The hardware specs of Galaxy S II can eat HTC's newest devices for breakfast.
And HTC really made a big mistake because right now it's no more about the software, it's the hardware that matters. Android is almost the same on all devices and with a community like XDA everything (costumization) is possible.
RIP HTC, I will never buy a device from you anymore.
I feel pretty let down by HTC's showing at MWC.
I was expecting an Atrix/Galaxy 2 rival (aka the Pyramid) and they show us unibodied versions of phones that have been out since last year with slightly bigger batteries running Gingerbread.
I don't know whether to jump ship to the Atrix or to wait and see if they produce the Pyramid at a later date.
I'm not particularly interested in the Tablet, and if I was to get one i'd get the Moto Xoom or Samsung Galaxy 10.1 as they are pretty much the same as each other anyway with stock Honeycomb, rather than a massively skinned and shelled Gingerbread device.
HTC needs to stop trying to insist upon making Sense the core product they are selling and start making some big leaps in hardware, and soon..
Fail
I was expecting a dual core android 2.4 phone with physical keyboard and a android 3.0 tablet. None arrived...
Very dissapointed.
Was hoping for the Pyramid - something to rival the Galaxy S2 in terms of hardware specs.
I really want a HTC and was waiting for this news to determine how to proceed.
If you want the technology the Galaxy S2 seems to be the handset to get, but Samsungs TouchWiz just doesn't even compare to HTC's sense.
For me its the Desire S for now.....I need Sense in my life.
WHERE IS THE PYRAMID!!!!!!
remind me again why i should get rid of my N1?
oh yeah nothing... HELLO!!!! HTC!!! are you even trying anymore?
the only thing turing me off of the Atrix was the possible locked boot loader, and wanting to see what HTC was about to push out....
now that we have one thing off the list.... i feel that i may be leaving HTC for a while until they get their act together... maybe thats what they need... sales not to climb like they have, an actual slap to their bottom line that says consumers are done buying the same thing over and over... but sadly, even with the numbers we have, until the masses relize this, HTC sale numbers will continue to rise and no real reason for them to change...
in their eyes, if it aint broke, why fix it?
for me, its a total dissapointment.
i mean WTF ARE THEY THINKING
its the same ****.. AGAIN
there is still no phone that would be a REAL upgrade to my HD2..
i hoped for a new flagship.. i hoped it so bad..
i hoped for something that would frag all others away.. but they stay at the same level.. just to get even more money out from the same old **** >.>
only good thing of htc this time was the tablet. but thats it, and i guess they will overprice it, so i won't get it
i'll stick to my HD2. **** you HTC, u idiots
Sent from my HD2
like all of you, I'm very disappointed... where is my Pyramid!!?
Meh, totally under-whelming.
Build quality of the Desire S sounds nice, and i wouldn't mind having one, but it's not specced any higher than my N1 and of course is full of 'Sense' crap which i'd have to nuke from orbit before using the thing.
im really thinking of totaly switching to moto now
the atrix and the xoom tab are just too cool...
and more sexy.
Whats up Guys @ HTC
Every Smartphone producer shows their flagships at MWC this week, and HTC???
Not even one word about the Pyramid is in planning?
Sure we have to wait...
(it was the same with the Snapdragon 1GHz Processor, the TG01 was 4 months before the HD2 out)
And im pretty sure the wait was worth it!
So now we can buy soon (non HTC ):
- Many Dual core (even different Processors) Phones
- 3D Display Phones
- Ultra bright Display ( 700 Nit - Daylight usable) Phones
- Ultra thin and light (Dual Core) Phones (~8,5mm)
And whats coming from HTC? - only a "Sense" with streaming, and an "new" Facebook Button
Where is the Successor of the HD2
Come on HTC, you have to be the carriers of technology, dont get lost in Software ...
Phones are still made out of Hardware!!!
Give the people a Dream - a Dream we want to wait for :
Oh, and this will be such an Dream:

The Galaxy S II has some fantastic hardware, but I decided because of the complaints people have about software updates etc that I would wait and see what HTC had on offer before making up my mind. Having seen it I have to wonder what exactly are they thinking? Sure they're well built phones, but why do they feel satisfied in pushing out fairly old hardware.

Of course. It may well be that they thought a more reasonably priced (if indeed they are reasonably priced) phone would be just what the market needs. It just seemed remarkably out of place for them to wax lyrical about phones that are remarkably similar to their current generation except with new software.
HTC should really make Sense downloadable through market as a launcher instead. I just hate it. It's ugly and doesn't really make a difference for me.
Regarding the new phones there is nothing really impressive. The new Tegra2 dual core phones that are coming out (LG and Motorola) will most likely blow any of those HTC phones away. I believe they also have integrated geforce graphics so nothing should really be an issue on those phones.
My Wildfire have been a disappointment so I wouldn't even consider a HTC phone again unless I was 100% certain I could make it good.
One devices than can beat the Desire HD?
I stopped paying attention to smartphones a long time ago.
But the HTC Flyer actually catches my attention as a useful Android tablet for once. No Honeycomb is a bummer (Android is already too fragmented!), but it does have an N-trig DuoSense digitizer and apps to use it with. More than I can say for a certain other US$800 Android tablet.
Maybe I won't have to keep looking specifically at Windows Tablet PCs for a viable pen and paper alternative.

Agreed.
HTC was smart by making the end caps tinted already. Bet those things get nasty after some use. I usually prefer white but I'm way more jealous of the storage space than the color in this case.
It's just not fair ;(

I think HTC's strategy will continue to fail them. It's essentially the same phone they released months ago just it has more storage. This is what the One S should've been when it came out, BUT it also should've had NFC to future proof the device.
Hopefully the memory IC is compatible with our phones so we can just resolder them

It's not surprising to see HTC made this move to release a variation of one s with different colour and more storage space. And I don't think it's unfair to the "old" one s owner either.
Just like Samsung released S3 alpha in Japan which has better specs than the international S3, companies will never make perfect phone, at least release a perfect one at one time.
The very next day after a device is made available to public, it's already become "yeaterday's" gadget apparently and literally. Moreover we all believed one s was a near perfect masterpiece when we bought it and did not bother too much about the 16gig storage, so why should we complain it now 6 months down the road. And we all know, in 3 years time, or less, one s may only be grandpa's play tool...
Regarding the release of one s se in other countries, I guess it will be available in the future if HTC still wants to keep the one s line. Since I know some big Telecom company like orange uk has marked one s EOL, end of line/life. Or HTC is preparing something big to come in Christmas time.
I do think it would have been nice to have at least 32gig option when one s was released, however that was not the case...
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
They could just design it with a microSD slot, it's that simple.
I knew that when I got the phone but didn't think it would bother me so much.
Roming it would be much easier... It's like they took the two bad things from the iPhone... Can't understand that.
Still I love the One S!

I disagree. Even after the One S came out, it's specs didn't become obsolete. The galaxy s3 was released shortly after and even that is on par with the one S based on benchmarks. And as the way things are, a lot of phones are being released with almost similar specs, with the exception of cpu speeds (architecture may be more optimized but say, exynos and snapdragon 4 are very much on par) and ram, phones aren't being differentiated. Not unless the new batch of architecture cpu are released and even then, manufacturer still have to create a phone around it. So while yes, this Taiwan version only phone has more memory, it doesn't mean any one s, one x, are going to be a grandpa toy only time soon. I can see the iPhone 5 being obsolete the moment it came out and being a grandparent toy only (Samsung commercial hit it dead on) but the one s will still be a contender. In fact, the only phones that become obsolete the day after released, are budget phones. Aka, one v and people still complain they aren't getting updates.

good effort by htc but they really could save more complaints/headaches from current HOS owners by adding the following features:

How much it cost?
Yes, it's really a nice device.
You can buy it from Taiwan shopping website.

FYI.
Since the U11 was released I have been waiting and hoping HTC would do a small bezel U11 and now here it is.
Passed on the Note 8, V30 and Pixel 2 XL because I really wanted to see what HTC had up its sleeve (not that i cant still go nab one of those lol) once the rumours of the U11 plus started.
But not available in North America and also not in solar red which is arguably the nicest colour the U11 comes in.
So who else is really annoyed and disappointed in this?
Sure we will be able to buy one online/ abroad in a variety of places but still no solar red!
HTC have made a very odd decision here neglecting the North American market one would think. It certainly has me rethinking going with them since they dont seem to value us as customers.
Why don't you buy it from abroad? I bought my S7 Edge on eBay from Singapore or something. No problems.

Yes of course i can do that as I mentioned in my post it just seems like an odd business decision. HTCs mobile division has been abysmal for years, you would think they would want to try devices in as many places as possible not as few places as possible.
And i cant import a solar red one since its not offered Anywhere.

So if we do import this will it work on verizons network?
Guys just be patient.
It will be released worldwide when the time has come. In all possible colors that is.
Just wait like everybody else.
Checking on eBay regularly will help you

The main issue is that U11+
won't have all US LTE bands (like B2 for TMoUS)
probably won't support the majority of US LTE-Advanced combinations (carrier aggregation)
won't support VoLTE and WiFi Calling for US carriers

Yup, checked on the current data available on the only version (TW) of the U11+ bands supported and B2 LTE is indeed not there.... but there seems to be some positive signs that you guys might wanna get excited abt. The U11+ TW/WW version seems to support the same exact bands and are of the same exact speeds for the U11 TW/WW version; that likely means the U11+ radios are exactly the same as the U11 radios, so it is *probably* very easy for HTC to make US versions if it ever wanted to. So, keep your fingers crossed!

But it won't to avoid competing with Pixel 2 XL.

They are such idiots for not releasing it in solar red.
I'm absolutely disappointed that the two top contenders for my upgrade will not be available in the US, the Huawei Mate 10 and this device. I feel like the US is getting the short end of the stick this year.

Bro, is eBay blocked in US..?

No, I'm just waiting to see how well they work on various networks over here before committing. I've heard both work okay on AT&T but am waiting for more concrete information.

The "Neglect" Is more of HTC trying to secure profits since they are and have been a dying brand even though they release great phones. The US is full of competition that they have dealt with and not won in most of their times of releasing flagships, so instead of making a lot of phones, losing profits by not selling them or losing to Samsung and Apple (again), they rather play it safe in markets where they sell decently. I mean, we can still import the phones but until HTC captures the market, we are going to continue to not get some of their best phones. Remember this is just like the M9+ that released only in India but was superior to the regular m9 and everybody (including me) complained about it lol.

I figured it was blocked forcibly by Google, since it waa being designed as the Pixel 2 Xl before Google (unwisely) scrapped it. I assumed they signed a non-compete agreement. Hopefully just temporarily. Can always just order online . Pretty pricey though.
It's probably not news to everyone that Essential has thrown in the towel on the Essential Phone
https://www.droid-life.com/2018/12/28/it-looks-like-the-end-has-finally-come-to-the-essential-phone/
Sad news really ... This is the first phone I've had that I really really loved
I basically quite looking at other phones after owning this one.
Hopefully something else will come along that sparks my interest, maybe a Oneplus is in my future ?
For me, this is a sad occasion too. My Essential phone has been amazing and I don't think I've loved a phone the same way. I can toy with this thing a ton, with it being Treble compatible and pretty close to stock android. (I even watched I/O 18 live, and cheered when Essential was revealed to be on the beta list for pie.) Right now if you guys want one last fling at a rooted tweak for the Essential phone, check out this Magisk Module from the Lawnchair Launcher team, called Quickstep Switcher.
https://twitter.com/lawnchairapp/status/1078692474795769857
It switches your recents provider on a system level, allowing for launchers like Lawnchair and OnePlus Launcher to use their Pie navigation features on your device. The modded OnePlus Launcher they provided in the Telegram chat gives you iPhone X-Series fluid animations and movements. It's been a great ride y'all. See ya on the OnePlus 7 forums next year.
The PH1 is no longer for sale
but Essential is not dead yet.

It's been pretty well known that Essential has been working on a new smartphone for a couple of months. They're definitely not dead.
Sad news but...Does it mean that we won't have more monthly updates?

No they have said the updates will keep coming. And it's not as if the device will just quit now. People are such drama queens.

it's the end of an era, not really about the drama
As for them selling another phone, I have yet to see any news that confirms this.
"We are now hard at work on our next mobile product" doesn't really mean anything
some are speculating it means
But as part of that announcement, the company is also confirming something that fans had long hoped to be true: Essential is officially working on a second “mobile product,” presumably this rumored tiny phone that uses AI to answer emails and text messages for you. An Essential spokeswoman wouldn’t directly confirm to me that its “next mobile product” is a phone, but that’s what “mobile product” generally means.

I be leave are phones will continue to be updated, but it's still sad to here production has stopped.
I suspect production has been over for 6 months or more likely a year.
The way read their statement is that they are stopping current production but will launch a new "AI" phone sometime. So definitely not dead.
No phone is restocked after an year and half, I don't see issues here..
It's old tech* now, nobody would buy a phone with an 835 when phone with 855 are in the pipeline for the next weeks... nobody gives a fk when any other company stops the production of older phones.. I really don't get why in this case there are news about it!
All media always had something negative to say about this phone.. in a way that's not justified in my opinion.
*Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's the best phone I ever had. To me, that I have bought it at a very convenient price, is the only true spiritual successor to nexus 5, just much better under every aspect.. but I bought it more than 1 year ago.. No people would like to buy a one plus 5, new from one plus, today.
Is there any chance ROM development will stop soon on this phone? I'm thinking of buying this phone used due to the stock nature but if ROM development is stopping soon as well, then I'll look elsewhere

ROM development will last years on a device like this.
Your biggest issue would be missing out on 5g in the next year... But as long as you plan to upgrade in 2-3 years from now you'll be fine and not miss much.

If there is 5 g in your area.
There are many places where 5G will probably never get there.

I just bought the phone (granted I got it for free "essentially "^_^) but those specs mean nothing to me. Day to day performance and prompt updates which it looks like essential has been doing is important to me. People get WAY too caught up in these new SoC's when the originals have BARELY been tapped out and for 99% of people, they don't need more.
