[Q] Media player - Captivate General

So I have been having some issues playing .flac files.
It was my understanding through searching this forum and other online places that the Captivate does support .flac
I have found this to be iffy.
I am running 2.1.5 Cog with Voodoo; however, I don't think that this has any affect on this.
I managed to get a few of the .flac audio files to play; however, then the preinstalled media player would crash.
I have tried several of the market addons, including "Extra Media Scanner" which is the only way any media player can actually see .flac
Any ideas?

Why would you want to try to play FLAC on a device that has sound quality no where near a high quality 200$+ sound card for a PC? Better yet, will you even notice the difference in FLAC vs MP3 on a phone using normal earbuds? Probably not and never will. Unless you get some head phones that cost as much as the Captivate and a high quality head phone amp, I see no reason to try to play FLAC on this, or any hand held device. I have a hard time telling the difference from FLAC and 320 Kbps MP3s on a 130$ sound card and 80$ 2.1 head phones on my computer.

Thanks for the reply, but I do have high quality, over the ear, studio monitor, 150$ headphones. But that isnt even the point... I have an extremely large collection of music in flac that I dont feel like converting. Yeah, i know that i can hardly tell, if at all between flac and 320 mp3. still not the point though. Not trying to be a ****, but I'm looking for more of a technically approached answer rather than logical reasoning

SRS WOW out for Android/Evo????

Hey ya'll I'm getting ansy for tomorrow's release.. Quick question.. Has anyone found a comperable SRSWOW plugin to add some clarity and "thump" to the phones standard audio output? SRSWow on Winmo is a godsend and truly makes the phones audio double in clarity and crispness across all the bands...
Thanks!
Is there a problem with the Audio?
Mine sounds fine.
This question isn't about a problem, but moreso about the ability to "tune" the audio to enhance the sound. If you have had a winmo phone with SRSwow, you'll know what I mean.. Night and day difference in sound depth, crispness, bass clarity, and seperation from stock.
i've only come across a single media player that had even had an EQ for android. i'll see if i can find the thread...
edit: found it.
astro player
I've dealt a lot with SRS WOW on my winmo device and on a desktop PC... After through testing, came to a conclusion that most of the time it actually makes the music sounds worse. Trashed it and never gone back.

Hmmm.. Not sure how qualified your ears are, but i can guarantee in a car with a smallish sub the SRSWoW made all the difference from stock WM players on Winmo. Inside there might be less subtle changes. The ability to widen the sound and get less mud from the bass is really where this plugin shines. Sounds like its not quite there for Android yet. Bummer!

I produced music for past 3 years (trance), spent WEEKS battling youtube optimizing my uploads for best audio quality, play piano, and am in charge of my church's choir... I think that should be enough to qualify me as "not a n00b in audio/music area"

Touche...We are playing MP3's after all, lol After trying Astro Music I wasn't wowed that much.. Hopefully there are more plugins enroute to satisfy my SRSwow fixation ;/
just do what I did... save up and invest some $$ and get better quality sound system, let it be headphones, speakers, car sound, etc...
I spent $80 on headphones and another $100 on new 3-say speakers for my car. That made all the difference. AMAZING sound quality on both, no need for any SRSWOW patches
I can relate, I need it myself. I need to boost/tune my overall volume as well, & not just in mp3s.
You are a deaf mann frifoxxx !! You cant replace your phones speaker but you can increase quality with SRS.You can configure low frequency to 400hz or 300hz and sound is better better better than standart in ALL WM phones.I think SRS is really necesary for ALL devices that has small speakers like laptops, phones, tablet pcs.Im producing music for 7 years and i think SRS is necessary for all small speakered device. And many manufacturers are using srs engines in their lcd tvs,phones...etc and they have SRS logo on front.sorry for my english if your devices headphone amplifier is bad about bass (like HD2) you can use srs for headphone configuring 40 hz and far input output DB values. And you get the BASSS

I want srs for my sgs2
I have it on my pc and on my i900 its sounds really amazing after adjustements
There is an app called equalizer made by the same guys that make audio manager and it worked great on my evo

I personally like Volume Boost. It literally tweaks the eq to raise volume, has custom and preset eq, and other great tweaks. The "in call" is still in testing, but the speaker, and headphone, and headset quality is pretty amazing for a market app

I like crisp clean sound. Bass is nice but I hate it when the bass is so distorted that it drones out the crisp highs and mids. What's the point of audio I'd you've got the bass turned so far up you can't hear the vocals.

SRSWOW
I am looking for a working version of SRSWOW for my android tablet, It's the Samsung 10.1 and I agree that using SRSWOW no comparison it is the best for not rooting my tablet. All I want is about a 30% increase in sound I have tried several other so called boost the volume apps and nothing has so far worked. So if anyone could steer me in the right direction I would be very happy, thanks in advance..

High res Audio on Z3?

I've heard people said that the Z3 is able to play high res audio. But I did not see any difference between a FLAC and 320kbp/s MP3 song. I tested on he phone speakers and my MDRXB50AP earbuds. Is that what I'm supposed to do, or I have to use an amplifier. Sorry for being ignorant, pls help me
Well, the actual hearable difference between 320 and FLAC is in most cases so small that many find it negligible (YMMV obviously). You definitely won't be able to hear it through the phone's speakers and I'm doubtful those 50$ "extra bass" in-ears would do the trick
You're doing everything right and with those headphones you really don't need an amp.
Hope that answers your question.
Yes, as stated here. If you do notice it here you will only notice it at high volumes where the flac will not distort quite as quickly

[Q] Note 4 edge best sound / music player - thoughts wanted

Hey All,
Just want some thoughts on best sound / music player setup on the note edge (915G),
I have tried various music players, (Jet music / Shuttle+ / Music player pro and stock music player, which are all good)
I am looking for high end natural sound quality and my question is...do I root and install VIPERFX or choose a good music player or is a good set of headphones a better choice?
I am thinking about buying some AKG 550 headphones which should give a good balance then is it best to play with the music players for better sound quality or do I root and install Viper??
I know its my choice in the end but some thoughts from the community always helps?
I haven't rooted in over a year, but probably Viper if you're going in that direction unless much has changed since then. If you don't feel like rooting, then your best bet is probably PowerAmp. It also takes advantage of the Edge feature, which is nice.
As far as headphones go, if I'm going to spend that much for a pair, then I'm going to be willing to spend whatever the price is to ensure my happiness. For the sake of transparency, you should know that I haven't had a chance to try out AKGs. Having said that, I have a pair of QC25s by Bose and they are pretty freaking amazing. I honestly don't think I can ever go back to passive noise-canceling headphones again.
One of the problems that I have is that I have a very minor case of tinnitus (i.e. permanent ear-ringing). I also like to do my work in public places but find myself getting distracted pretty easily, usually catching trivial conversations that I find somewhat amusing. When I use the QC25s, it's as if I put myself into the zone and nothing can bother me. The upshot of it all is that I don't even have to turn the music up that loud in order to enjoy it, which spares my ears and prevents the tinnitus from worsening.
But what about the sound quality? I personally find that I hear much more of the music with active noise-canceling enabled. I was listening to some Dire Straits, for example, and there were just subtle notes that enhanced the listening experience that I don't recall picking up on before. Let's face it though. You're not going to get incredible, deep bass out of the QC25s, but you will get a very wide, clear sound, allowing you to appreciate depth to songs that you may also not have noticed before.
I don't know if you planned on paying full price for the AKGs or if you're somewhat like me and naturally resistant to "brands," but I would strongly recommend giving the QC25s a good listen before making your decision. I've let several people borrow my pair for 10 minutes and a couple of them actually ended up purchasing their own the following day. If you have the money to burn, you can also customize your own pair with an absurd amount of color selections on their website. In addition to helping me appreciate my music more, they've also increased my productivity in a way that other headphones haven't done, and they will be the standard against which I compare my future purchases. I'm coming over from a pair of passive noise-canceling Sony XBA-2s and it's not even close. While the Sonys are nice, the QC25s have just been game changers for me.
I should add that you just need to take into consideration your listening habits. If you're going to be in quiet places already most of the time, then I would purchase Sennheisers, Grados, or AKGs, but if you're more out and about or on-the-go like me, I just don't see how I could do anything other than the QC25. And obviously, other headphones would be better suited for more fitness-related activities, like Westones, Sonys, or Shures.

Poor audio quality

Hi! Anyone else who find the audio quality very poor?
With all the audio fx disabled, I find the details of the music very poor. The bass levels are very strong but all the rest.. whatever you play, seems slightly filtered with a sound noise remover., plus a resample by default (maybe from 44100 to 48000) really not necessary (and dangerous for the details in the high frequencies).
It s a very tiny thing that probably only audiophiles can understand. It was too good to be true, considered its price : )
I didn t have time yet to root it but when I do I ll try Viper4android driver (that I always used wherever and I miss), hoping it can get better even if I doubt. I use poweramp to play audio.
I m curious to know if someone else noticed it.

I use Hiby and have been impressed by the audio... the SACD and .FLAC play very good IMO
I also use the walkman app you can find on the forums, and think it does well for mp3,
but seriously "It s a very tiny thing that probably only audiophiles can understand" REALLY? what self proclaimed "audiofile" uses poweramp and listens to mp3? " dangerous for the details in the high frequencies" uh yea, mp3 encoding tends to cause that....

HibyMusic; its on Playstore, sorry for typo

Is the music sound quality that bad?

I'm looking into reformatting all of my music to the best file format and putting into the Pixel or buying the middle expensive WalkMan.
What music file type and where should I store the music. They are coming from my CD collection.
I will be rooted.

If your collection is a CD only + using BT headphones, I think you will be fine with mp3 file format at it's highest (320kbps). Going farther, of course you could use .flac format for your music and this format is lossless. I would personally use .flac files for studio quality content only such as: 96 or 192khz/24 bit. I had HTC 10 (sold it today) and this phone had better DAC on board and it did make a difference, but with Pixel, you will be happy with mp3.
yeah in my opinion you would be wasting a lot of time ripping cds. it is 2017 man. digital music sounds fine. plus you get a 3 month free suscription to google music if you own a pixel. you can stream or download pretty much any music you would ever want to listen to. i use bt headphones alll the time and have listened to all kinds of genres and albums. it all sounds pretty good.
I use my phone off the grid much. Streaming is not an option

Yes, I concur with the above response for 320 kbps MP3s, if BT headphones are destination, because this won't eat up hundreds of MB per album (as with Wav\Aiff or FLAC).
MP3s will probably stream wirelessly better and more reliably with Pixel than much larger files, and 320 kbps MP3s sound perfectly fine.
If you were playing files in a high fidelity studio or private theatre, perhaps there is an argument for less compressed files. BT headphones? They like MP3s.
Off topic, I recommend the VLC open source media player. Simple enough and stable.

There's no problem with sound quality at all. Does that really matter anyway if you're listening through headphones? Plus bluetooth will diminish the quality significantly anyway. I also agree with n00bpwner, there are too many alternatives to consider ripping CD's.
google music lets you download and store locally any song.
