Can't setup CM6 exchange account / CDMA Hero - Hero CDMA Android Development

After installing CM6, I cannot get my exchange account setup. I get a bad username and password message, but am absolutely certain this information is correct. I know from previous setup experince that this error message can be generic with other problems being the culprit. One difference I see in the setup with CM6 is that there is no option to eave the domain blank/empty. My hosted exchange server service tech support recommends leaving this blank if it fails to sync, however, the "Next" button is grayed out and can't be selected until something is enterred. Don't know if this is causing the problem, but have never had this type of problem with several other handsets and OS's.

I encountered this same problem, and brought it up on the CM6 board without anyone responding. If you do some digging in the "Themes and Apps" section, I created a thread with a hacked Email.apk that eliminates the need for security settings. I just push that to /system/app through adb, and set it up that way. PM me if you can't find it.

Problem With Direct Push After Flashing With Dutty Beta 2 Tilt ROM and

I am new to the forums and used the DUTTY BETA 2 ATT TILT ROM. Followed all steps and everything works EXCEPT trying to use DIRECT PUSH thorugh the Microsoft Exchange server my work provides. I did a search and can't seem to find an answer. Cannot get anyone on the BETA 2 thread to respond for whatever reason (newb, didn't do my homework, too bad, price I pay for trying something new, etc.)
I have tried searching and have posted on one other thread that looks to be a similar problem.
Have tried enabling SSL and disabling. My tech director changed server side setting and removed certificate requirement from me to the server.
He seems to think there is a problem with the active sync included on the ROM.
1) Is there a way to simply fix the "ACTIVE SYNC" by installing, updating, etc.?
2) Can I simply revert back to a stock ATT rom without doing all of the other steps for the WARRANTY RETURN?? I am not planning on returning this, just want to put all software/rom back to STOCK as if out of box so I can try setting up direct push again.
3) Is there another ROM to flash to that does the touchflo stuff without a lot of hassle?
ANY HELP PLEASE???????? I am sort of lost as to where to go next. Don't want to use the desktop push software if I don't have to as it I dont' want to leave my destop PC on all the time.
THANK YOU THANK YOU for any help that you can provide!

I am using direct push with Exchange and Dutty's rom. And have no problems. Although it's the latest Rom.
What kind of problems are you getting?
I am getting the 0x80830003 error. I am unable to sync via direct push. I am using the Dutty AT&T TILT BETA 2 rom.
The Exchange server can see the device. I can sync if connected via the internet through my PC.
Which rom are you using that worked with Direct push? How many more things did you have to install with this rom in order to make verything work or did you just have to flash the rom?
I love everything else that the rom flash did except that I can't direct push email, calendar items, etc.
Direct Push with Dutty
I've used several of Dutty's ROMs, currently the one here and have never had any direct push issues. Working 100%
Thnx. Trying some other things first. If not, will try a different rom

Exchange push works on the Hermes, and Kaiser, with original Dopod ROMs, and with Schaps. (My IS dept. also could not get it working either. I don't depend on them.) You do not need anything extra for WM 5 or 6, any ROM, and there is no problem with ActiveSync.
Here's a basic checklist.
- Activesync/configure server. Input the "server address" (this is the external internet address for your Exchange server. Not an Intranet address, and not your exchange email id.)
- SSL is checked on mine
- next screen - User Name: (your Exchange id), Password: , Domain: (whatever your domain is for your regular Exchange setup). Check the Save password box.
- next screen, check the E-mail box, and the Calendar, Contacts, etc. This sets what will be sync'ed over your wireless data connection in Microsoft Exchange. If E-mail is checked under your Windows PC setting, then you have to uncheck it before you can select it under Microsoft Exchange.
Whatever you select under Windows PC will sync via your USB connection to your PC. Wireless push will be under Microsoft Exchange, which will only show up when you do the above.
Once you have both setup, you will see two sections when you open Activeysync on the PDA. Microsoft Exchange (for the wireless push), and Windows PC (for activesync through USB cable when connected to your PC)
From your description, you have setup E-mail to sync under Windows PC, and have never setup the push email part of it at all.
Once it is working, you can edit the options and schedule in Activesync to determine how much to download (I set it to 5K text), and how often. Recommend that you do not set the schedule to deliver immediately, but to check every 10 or 15 mins, or longer. Setting it to immediate causes the data connection to be on continuously, and uses the battery up fast. Set it to check periodically, and battery usage can go 2 days, instead of less than 1 day.

Enable Logging in the advanced setting of the account on your phone. Problem could be heartbeat issues or any number of issues. Ask the admin if the Mail Server has more than one address? Had a similar problem at work recently and our new IT admin figured out the Domain IP routing needed to include both of the servers IPs.
If the direct push works with wm 6.1 hermes,
I would check 2 things.
1. I am assuming you are using https. Check that server certificate is installed on kaiser, correct, and hasn't expired.
2. Make sure that you have https connectivity in general and specifically to the exchange server.
Often there could be issues associated with connection settings where media net was not chosen for internet connection. In any case, I would use setup connection found in settings.

You get this error because the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" is checked for the MEdia Net access point. Go to Settings -> Connections and then select Set up proxy server and uncheck "This network uses a proxy..." box and you should be good to go.

[Q] gmail keeps asking for password help!

Please help! A while ago, i was synchronizing my gmail when wp7 asked me to ipdate and reinput my password. But each time i type in the right password, it says that the password is incorrect! Tried deleteting the account on my phone and putting it back again, still the same. On the browser and also on the desktop, i can log on normally using the same password. Please help
That sounds really strange. I've never had any issues with my gmail accounts.
It sounds like a typo, but since you've tried it several times that may not be the case.
Are you sure you didn't mistype the email address instead of the password?
I know that with the software keyboard, I sometimes hit the key next to the one I want to hit. But I'm sure you already tried typing the password slowly and looking at each letter as you type it.
Yes i'm 100% sure i got them all correct. Tried changing and rechanging the password but still nothing. Also, i tried on my wife's iphone, and it worked perfectly. On the wp7, nothing
Is your Server listed as m.google.com?
Also, did you make sure to check "Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection?
Yes and yes, m.google.com and SSL is checked. Even tried turning my phone off but still nothing
Are you actually using a @gmail.com account, or a corporate account through Google?
i'm using a .gmail.com account. it was working before, but now, nada.
Sounds like a bug.
I heard of someone who experienced something similar. They were able to solve it by connecting to a WiFi network and then setting up their gmail account.
I'm not sure why that solved it for them, but maybe it could help you too.
And it just did. I was connected to 3G when it happened. Connected to my home wifi and it finally accepted my password. Again, i connected to 3G just to confirm it and well ut works now. Thanks for all the help guys. Will drop the wp7 guys an email about this
I just ran into the same issue.
I had changed my gmail password via web interface. then the phone asked for the new password but wouldn't accept it.
I ended up deleting the account on the phone, changing the password at gmail (again) to something different, then readded the account to the phone. In that time period though, I logged onto wifi in order to sync faster.
Would have been nice to have seen this thread earlier...
Gmail on Android persistence challenge credentials bug fix
I found this to be a bug with Gmail account log in failures on Andriod when using 2-step verification. It persistently challenges you for credentials although you have successfully logged into your Google account on another machine via a web browser.
This is the fix I found:
Step 1:
Log into your gmail account on another machine using a web browser.
Go to account settings > 2-step verification > authorising sites > application specific password
Step 2:
generate a password called gmail -android but do not click done.
Step 3:
go to device enter your gmail - andriod application specific password and you will get challenged a further 2-3 times enter the same password (you may have to also enter the CAPTCHA (a security image with distorted letters)).
Step 4:
When you are no longer challenged, try to sync with gmail if you do not get a sign-in error on your device then this has worked and be sure to click done in your your google account settings via your browser on the other machine you used.
Hope this helps to those of you who are suffering from this infuriating Google 2-step verification bug.
Hyp3rzz
I had countless issues with my Gmail account on WM6.x - same as you describe. Would not accept my credentials.
The steps described above solved it for me (having to reset using that captcha thing) but it would keep on re-occuring. Not seen it so far in WP7 though. *touch wood*

[Q] Email MS Exchange

Anyone able to use the stock email app without any problems? I can't access my work email with the stock app. I downloaded touchdown and it works without any problems, currently using the trial, $20 not worth it IMO.
No, i have no issues with Exchange using the stock app. I connect to Exchange 2003 so I can't speak for newer versions of Exchange. Do you get any error messages?
I get a cannot connect to server message. It's not a connection issue though, if I type my password wrong, I'll get a incorrect password message.

Hmm, so you have the correct domain\username, correct mail server, checked ssl settings, and you get the same message? The problem could be on the server end. Can other android users connect to your company's exchange?
Also, if Touchdown is too pricey, you can try Enhanced Email, i've used it before and it works really well. The only downside is that it's not great with your battery.
Yes other android users are able to connect. I'm also able to connect on my girlfriends Mytouch 4G.
Are you running a ROM? If not, the only thing i can think of that might work is doing a factory reset. I had a problem connecting once but it was due to a bad flash. Did you already clear cache and data from the stock email app?
Some ROMs
Some ROMs have a working email client for my corporate email, some don't. I ahd not luck with Weapon g2x, but Trigger worked, for example. Also the nighlies I used (up to 104) worked, but miui doesn't seem to work.
My advice is try ROMs until you find one that works and report the bug onthe forums if you notice problems.
So far I've tried:
Stock 2.2
Stock 2.3
Weapon G2x
Latest CM7 nightly 119
All have the same problem. Could this be a hardware problem? It's weird, why does touchdown work without any problems?
Miui
I am using the latest Miui and it seems to work with exchange. OTOH, I was able to get several of the nightlies to work with my exchange server too.
LG G2X Corporate Email (Microsoft Exchange) Connection Problem
My phone is a T-Mobile LG G2x (LGP999) running Android 2.3.3 (latest version is updated); using Microsoft Outlook 2007 (not sure what version of Microsoft Exchange is being used)
When I try to setup a corporate email (Microsoft Exchange) on my LG G2x (P999), I am receiving an error message that states: "This server requires security features your phone does not support". The steps are as follows:
1.) Go to the Email application from the main menu.
2.) Select MS Exchange.
3.) Set up email: Type your full email address and password.
4.) Server Settings: Type Domain\Username; Password; Server; Select check boxes “Use secure connection (SSL)” and optional “Accept all SSL certificates” when first box is selected.
5.) Account Options: Select how often you want your mail to arrive and your notification preference.
6.) Type a name for your account.
I am getting hung up on step #4 (Server Settings). I am 100% certain my domain\username and server address are correct but when I click “Next” to proceed to the next step I get the message "This server requires security features your phone does not support".
For a test, my colleague entered his information on steps 1-4 into my phone and proceeded to step 5 immediately (Account Options). This problem happened to one other individual and he had to purchase a new phone to correct the problem (a Samsung). The problem seems to be around the phone or mail-server but I am out of options. Is there some setting to get it to work?
Another test I performed, I successfully logged onto my friends phone with my account settings and managed to pull up my calendar / email. He was using a Motorolla phone that used Android 2.2 (an older version than I am using).
Other Notes:
A.) I can log into my webmail but this feature does not sync my calendar or give me instant email notifications. My email in Microsoft Outlook is working as well.
B.) My username and password combination is definitely not the problem. I tried typing in a different password and it gives me a different error (username/password entered is incorrect).
C.) I tried using “/” and “\” in the Domain\Username section. I also tried checking and un-checking the SSL options. I tried other servers available on-site (01 and 02 versions).
D.) My work technical support insists there is nothing different about my security settings but unfortunately since it is a personal device they won’t offer any real support. They blame the phone or T-mobile. T-mobile blames the phone or the server. LG blames T-mobile or the server. See my problem?
E.) I had a work phone recently that was taken away due to budget cuts so I know it is possible to get my email / calendar with an i-phone (3GS).
F.) I also tried using “Other” on step #2 and entering the information manually (selecting exchange since it is not a “Pop” server). I still get the same message.
G.) I rebooted the phone and even pulled the battery and restarted.
H.) I can connect to my work wi-fi. I activated the wi-fi and tried to enter in all the server information but it still gave me the same error with wi-fi enabled.
I.) I have setup my home email account but could not do it from the “Other” option in Step #2. (sbcglobal.net and a yahoo mail both required the yahoo app to work). I also got the g-mail account to work through the “g-mail” app.
J.) It is a brand new phone purchased yesterday 12/13/11 (i.e. factory reset seems pointless and not attempted).
Is there some phone setting I am missing? Any help on this matter or another method to sync my calender / work emails to my phone will be appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance
I don't believe Android currently supports some features of Microsoft Exchange yet because of security permissions. There is an app in the market that bypasses those checks but it's risky, because if your phone ever gets stolen and your work needs to wipe it, they can't and you may get in trouble for breaking policy. For the most part though, they wont know. I'll search for it for you but I don't remember the name.
EDIT: Sorry didn't read all the thread My browser pulled me to the last post of the thread and I thought it was OP haha
Still though, it could just be security restrictions stopping you like I said.

It's weird that you tried CM7 and it didn't work. The stock rom has an older email.apk that is not compatible with the newer versions of Exchange and some security policies but CM7 should not have that problem.
what settings are you using?
I've used both Touchdown and the default Android email client at work without a problem, but your Exchange server must fully support ActiveSync. I would ask your IT support or server admin to help you out.
BTW, while Touchdown may seem pricey, it just works. I use it daily and would recommend it to anyone wanting to connect to Exchange servers. I tried other solutions but always went back to Touchdown. Their support service is top notch.
The only problem I have is that once in a while the email app will delete my account. It only happens to exchange, my pop 3 accounts stay there.
Edit: Of course, as soon as I say this I have a problem connecting I changed my password at work and when I tried to change it on my phone it would not work. I removed the account and added it but still nothing. I wiped the cache and davlik cache and added the account, great success.

Problems with email setup?

I'm not sure if it's a problem with the phone or something else, but I CANNOT setup any email accounts with this phone.
Having used a Captivate, I'm familiar with the process, but whether using the auto setup or inputting the server names/ports directly, all I get it errors.
Any idea WTH is going on?
What do the errors say?

When it tries to go through the auto setup it gives me an error saying Setup Could Not Finish - Username or password incorrect". I KNOW 100% that the username and password are correct (and that I'm entering it correctly) as I'm able to login to my email directly at Cableone.net using the exact same information (and it's been the same for YEARS).
I think it has something to do with the fact that Cableone.net's email is/has switched to GMail and I'm betting there's some confusion there.
[edit]We figured it out - Apparently we had to migrate the email to the Gmail stuff... once we did that, it worked.
Glad you got it working

[Q] ActiveSync and Accept all SSL certificates

I'm am having some trouble getting ActiveSync to work correctly. I triple checked that all my server and user information is correct, but the phone will not sync any information. The little spinners for sync'ing just spin and no actual information comes down. The only setting difference between this phone and my old Captivate is the lack of a "Accept all SSL certificates" setting on the HTC. Is that an ICS change or something specific to the HTC mail app?
Found my own answer
Wouldn't you know it. Five seconds after posting the phone finally gives me an error. I swear I had tried sync'ing a dozen times with no success and no errors. This last time there was actually a notification about the Exchange server wanting to set some policies and that I had to accept. Which is similar to messages I had seen on previous phones. As soon as I did that, down came the emails.
