[Q] Music app that allows playback speed adjustment? Download TV Shows/Movies? - Captivate General

Hello all.
I am a very new owner of a Samsung Captivate (I've literally only had it for two days). In fact, I'm actually fairly new to Android in general. Prior to the Captivate, the only smartphones I've owned were Windows Mobile phones and an iPhone 3GS.
I'm doing well so far, but there are a few apps that I would really like to have, but can't seem to find.
To begin, is there app that allows you to download TV shows/movies. I've had apps like this previously and it would be really nice to have a similar app for the Captivate that works at least half as well. Second is an app I had from my WinMo days; TCPMP, in particular. TCPMP had an option that allowed you to slow down or speed up music playback and I was wondering if there are any music apps that allows that on Android?
Ultimately, I appreciate all replies, and thank you in advance!

[REQ] GUI/front end for HTC Video Player

Is it possible (or has someone already done this) to design an interface app for the underlying HTC Video Player like the one used for the Transformers movies? I have no idea how to code or what it would take but it seems like it would be doable (Again, I have no idea... just guessing) It could even be a separate tab in Sense for videos from the camera and movies.
I know how to access the videos through the Photos tab but it is clunky to say the least. I've downloaded TCPMP and while it works, it's very ugly and lacks the pop-over controls the built in player has. Currently I'm just using file explorer and it basically does what I'm saying but isn't very pretty.
Maybe I'm just too used to the aesthetically simple and pleasing interface of the iPod app for the iPhone, but this seems like a glaring omission on HTC's part (don't even get me started on the lack of a fast way to get to a particular artist in the Sense Music Tab). However, aside from these niggles, this is by far the best phone I've ever used. Thanks to anyone that can help
No one? Am I the only one that is annoyed by the lack of a good video player interface?

[Q] What is the best app for movies, music and internet browsing?

Hello everybody,
I'am fairly new to this whole 'android-user' world, but i really like customizing my phone. I had a Samsung Galaxy Apollo (GT-i5800) for a month (because my iPhone 4G broke) and after I really wanted a high end android phone. Currently I'm the proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S (GT-i9000) with GingerReal v5.1 which has completely replaced my iPhone.
Every day to work i watch movies/ listen music/ browse internet on my phone (almost 4 hours a day!!!).
I'm currently using MixZing (music) and mVideoPlayer (mediaplayer) Stock browser on SGS (browser).
I think they are pretty decent but I'm alway curious are there other players that are more easier/ faster/ less battery consuming apps out there which I never thought of.
What are your best/ recommend apps for:
Listening to music
Watching videos
Internet browsing
Thx. Nick

[APP] Best Podcast Apps List!

Hi all! I did a bunch of searches trying to find out the best App for downloading or streaming podcasts, but the results were scattered and few. So I decided to compile a list of the best podcasting apps for android out there (with links) and ask the rest of the community to review the apps and make suggestions. As new apps are suggested I'll edit the list so that a bunch of podcasting oriented apps can be found in one place.
(Links will be placed as soon as I can. I'm new to posting, not to research. Search for these in the marketplace.)
Paid:
BeyondPod (7 day free trail)
DoggCatcher
Pocket Cast
Free:
PodKast
PodKicker
PodKicker is my favorite. It updates automatically, streams and downloads podcasts (with the RSS Link), has a simple player UI, and best of all IT's FREE!
what about listen?
As a big podcast listener, I have tried pretty much all of these. BeyondPod was the best there was on WM, but I don't quite feel this way on Android.
On Android, my personal favorite has been Pocket Casts.

Pocket Casts is easily the best podcast app I have used. Also it is frequently updated and the developer is more than helpful.

just bought this app thanks for the heads up , ive been using listen for ages,,
Pocket Cast looks great, but I'm a bigger fan of free apps. Being a poor college student and all...
devnulldroid suggested Feed Sponge & Stitcher on another thread. Anyone else use these? I'm trying Stitcher out now.

Well, I had trouble with it streaming. An error would always appear. Also, the market/search was horrible.
But what does everyone else think about listen? If I get enough people saying they're on the Listen band wagon I'll add it to the list.

On using Stitcher for awhile I've found that it's a solid app for main stream podcasts, such as NPR and CBS created podcasts, but lacks the ability to upload through a link. There are a ton of podcasts I listen to that weren't in their market, so that's a down side to me.
which one gets the best battery life? pocket casts seems to drain my battery pretty quickly, I mean I guess the phone can't sleep while playing audio but just wondering if any get better battery life when playing than others.
what podcasts do yall listen to?
Was skimming thru the latest threads and decided to reply (Incredible 2)
.podkast used to be awesome (on GB) but since I've been on ICS it's only offered in foreign languages (from the market).
It had absolutely EVERY podcast available.
-Truckin'-
Podkicker, one of the very free that has managed to find every podcast I've searched for...most of the big name pod streamers can't find popular podcasts.
It's also one of the easiest to run, and easiest on the eyes!

I use DoggCatcher and love it. Tons of options, works great on ICS 4.0.4 (Droid RAZR MAXX) and a nice feature is I can skip ahead or backwards in podcasts (jumped by a set interval) by pushing the SKIP and PREV buttons on my car stereo. (When connected via Bluetooth)
No battery issues -- has onscreen playback controls on the lock screen and notification bar (native ICS) and I set it to only download podcasts at night when the phone is connected to power.
I use AntennaPod - it is free and minimalistic

Breaks my heart that AntennaPod isn't in development any more.

I've fooled around with BeyondPod Beta but it's left me cold. Any other open source solutions out there?

Iphone 4S vs. SGS3 media control: constructive discussion

I just got Verizon SGS3 here and thinking about putting my ATT iphone 4s for sale.
I used iphone for the last 3 or so years and I have owned everything single model. I have owned a ATT HTC One X but returned it because i did not like Sense. Here are my impressions and questions on SGS3:
Overall, IOS and its apps seemed far more polished. It seemed that every app I download worked quite the same and I knew exactly what to expect. With android, there is a wider range of apps, which could be a big plus or a huge minus. Lets look at specific features that bug me:
1) Universal media control is deficient in ICS. Iphone has a universal playback control menu that is reached with just two taps on home button and a slide to the left. In SGS3, every media app has it own control, some allow to be controlled from the notification bar, some have a widget, for some you have to enter the app. Wouldn't it be convenient to just control playback in every single app through a universal playback menu??? Why isn't it implemented?
2) Media players do not play nice with each other. Why doesn't playback stops in one program automatically when playback starts in a different program. Some media players (Amazon cloud) have this feature but many do not, making this annoying.
3) Media playback should stop once a Bluetooth is disconnected - this is automatic on Iphone
4) Universal search is gone - AHHHH. But I will probably have to wait till next OTA or root my phone to get that back.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks when I drive so activities that I have to perform on SGS3 with media control annoy the heck out of me. I know these are easy to fixes but will make SGS3 more user friendly.
My iphone is jailbroken. Also, I looked through modified ROMs, there are so many and hard to chose, just need something stable easy to use with the features I need .

Your personal downsides of the SurfaceRT?

Hi guys,
I guess we all spent quite I time now playing with our Surfaces, so I wonder what the things are that bother you the most right now?
For me personally it comes down to two main things: Performance and a real video player
Performancewise I think the Surface has really good hardware, but either WinRT or the App optimization clearly lacks so far, as there are quite a few times when I'm thinking: Come on, that's all you got?! And I'm not even thinking UI performance or Desktop performance, as I'm quite happy with that, Metro's probably not iOS fluent, but it's definitely fluent enough, and also the occasional little lag when opening Apps is fine for me.
But the in-App performance is simply too bad. No matter if it's games (I guess I didn't find a single game with at least modest graphics which was really fluent) or the video player (come on, not being able to play a single SD .avi fluently?!).
And that already brings me to my secong point: Video Player. To put it quite simple, either Microsoft will come up with a better looking, better performing player that supports all the usual types of files (no .mkv?!), or a third party player will do the job. Or I'm going to send it back, as that's simply a no go for a tab.
In then meantime I'm halfway between amazed and frustrated what the Surface can and can't do
I could do with a video player that will play dvd ts format as I have loads on my nas, if anyone knows one already would be good to know i loved media centre would be great to get something like that.
I found pinball being open even in background creates a lag issue so i always have to shut it down fully, i wander if other apps are also having this effect? Could explain lag issues as once closed mine is back to full no lag speed. It has same effect if its only thing open or there is a load.

I am able to play 720p xvid/avi ripped from bluray with no problem. What type of avi are you playing?
Here is my list of complaints:
- No LTE
- Lack of apps
- Random hang ups or general app slowness and/or crashing (not a major problem, and will hopefully be resolved through OS and app updates)
- My iPad now is boring to use
I try to play xvid avis which are way more fluent on my notebook... But also other avis are more fluent on the notebook...

My negatives:
Very low volume
Quite heavy
No GPS
Occasionally touch pin keyboard does not show on wake up despite folded back. Need to use touch cover.
Occasional brief lags

There is a fix for the low volume. Check the tips and tricks thread.
I like the weight, right now the only downside I have is lack of VPN connectivity.
I'd like to see general performance enhancements but I believe those will come.

I think it's heavy as well...1/4 lb shaved off would be great, but it is the same weight as an iPad for those wondering.
My main complaint is the lack of POP3 email capability. I bought it mainly for work and my work email is a POP3, so this is a thing that will make me return it, even that I really love it far.

While somewhat convoluted, a work around is to send your work email to something like gmail which does support POP3, then link your gmail to the e-mail app on the surface.
To the OP, no tablet that I'm aware of supports MKV playback with first party video players. That is something the app store will take care of in time.
Anyways, no real complaints on my end, just some minor issues like the trackpad being a bit twitchy for my taste. Obviously the app store is a weak point, but that will get better with time and I bought the Surface understanding that.
Xda forum makes my Surface unresponsive if I'm using IE MetroStyle. If I switch to the full version everything works more or less fine.
thanks for posting these! I'm considering buying a surface and need to know these things.
I found in another thread that adding ad blockers lists in the Settings of IE fixes my performance issues when I'm using XDA, I tested and it works.

O/T but the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 does support MKV playback on the stock video player.

Dave
I don't know if this is also a wnrt app but a video app that might help in the app store is called multimedia8 give that a try they market it as being a multimedia playing app

It is a Windows RT app (which is different from a WinRT app- all apps are WinRT apps), however it still only plays the same files that the built-in player can. It's just a wrapper for that.
One of the primary reasons for getting a Surface for me was consuming video content. So far;
- Sky Go in the UK website uses Silverlight and there's no Silverlight support
- UK Football League websites 'Player' video services use Flash and they're not on Microsoft's whitelist (thank the lord for XDA Devs workaround for that one)
- No support for Windows 7 Media Center .wtv Recorded TV files, of which I have tons
Add on top of this buggy built in apps like People, Music & Video. There's enough about Surface that I still love it, and I know apps and updates will eventually resolve these issues but it's frustrating none the less.
My Surface creaks. Around the bezel at various spots near the edge of the tablet, if I press the bezel it goes in slightly as if there is a gap behind it or as if it hasn't been glued down properly. I tried this all around the tablet. I tried this on my friend's Surface last night but her screen is fine. So I am returning my Surface ? Does your creak?
I am missing a good forum to discuss issues people are having with their surface devices. I am totally happy with mine, but still misisng sume things. Where can I have useful discussions about this ?

Sorry for being to quick, I wanted to add some of my probs:
Pop 3 account. I already have read a lot of disussions on this and found some tips, but my provider only supports POP3
Synching my Windows Phon 7.5 (simply not working)
Locking the device when I close the lid, meaning if I close the cover (touch or type) I want the device to be locked
Support for older micro SD Cards. I cant my SD cards to work only the new SDHCX cards work
Does anyone know a good method to search the AppStore ? I realized that I am getting different results if I do a "general" search in the store or If I look for an app in the specific section. This is getting me mad.
When will MSFT release the final version of its Office 2013 products to the Surface users ? I already have it on my PC but the Surface still has a preview of Office 2013
