[REQ] GUI/front end for HTC Video Player - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Is it possible (or has someone already done this) to design an interface app for the underlying HTC Video Player like the one used for the Transformers movies? I have no idea how to code or what it would take but it seems like it would be doable (Again, I have no idea... just guessing) It could even be a separate tab in Sense for videos from the camera and movies.
I know how to access the videos through the Photos tab but it is clunky to say the least. I've downloaded TCPMP and while it works, it's very ugly and lacks the pop-over controls the built in player has. Currently I'm just using file explorer and it basically does what I'm saying but isn't very pretty.
Maybe I'm just too used to the aesthetically simple and pleasing interface of the iPod app for the iPhone, but this seems like a glaring omission on HTC's part (don't even get me started on the lack of a fast way to get to a particular artist in the Sense Music Tab). However, aside from these niggles, this is by far the best phone I've ever used. Thanks to anyone that can help

No one? Am I the only one that is annoyed by the lack of a good video player interface?

New Audio player

Anyone ever think of creating an audio player that emulates the iphones 'album art' mode? I think thats an awesome feature and amazed nothing similar as been imitated.
Check this out:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=xTHpwYkv45g
Dont even think there is a current audio player that incorporates album art of the songs being played, is there? was hoping there was one out that looked like this:
http://mylostblog.altervista.org/?p=79
but that skin apparently doesn't even allow album art, something similar would look awesome.
Hmmm, audio players for the smartphones, there arn't many! There is a however cover flow developments (only for ppc thou), an iphone coverflow like program is discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358049&highlight=PictureFlow. It works really well scrolling images, but no one yet has to implement this into an audio player, and I can see it going to touchscreen first, then over to our smartphones. If one gets created at all that is. So far i've stuck with tcpmp for videos and a skinned version of wmp for music. There is a nice version of Pocket Player thou, which shows you your album art (very small picture of it in the corner), but nothing that matches an iphone, as yet anyway. It's all we can do for now lol. If I find anything I will post it thou.

appreciate it! everyones been telling me about a nicely skinned pocket player one, would you have a link on how it looks? does pocket player use less resource than WMP10? i hope someone does work on a player with album art, just makes the whole thing look a whole lot better .
WMP can show album art, just load it with PC version of WMP and then copy the whole folder into your phone.. In Dr. Martin Gonzo's ROM thread you can see some screenshots

so been doing some digging, and i ran into this:

now thats exactly what i was hoping for, it looks awesome. mind you its still in development and so i contacted teh developer to see his vision on the final product. i'll keep you updated, but theres a small video in the thread, check it out, something we should keep our eye on.

Question for a Fuze/Rapheal user about vid playback

I did some digging on this subject, couldn't really find a definite answer on the subject. I currently own a tilt, and am considering purchasing a fuze, since with the announcement of the tilt 2, they are dropping in price. But my concern is power! You might know, that the Tilt has some video driver issues, as in can't play h.264/mp4's too well, i.e. any video podcasts i download. I'm also hoping to get emulators running smoothly with sound, but thats not too important. So my question is this, is this issue resolved on the Fuze? I noticed a thread stickied discussing touch pro performance, but nothing really says "it's fixed". Saw a few posts saying the drivers are still crap though. Thanks for any help! (and sorry if it's already posted, and i just couldn't find it)
Fixed - no!
Watchable - yes, depending on the files you're starting with of course.
Being VGA (tilt is qvga) everything on the screen looks much better and coreplayer does make most things play quite well.
Basically I have found that you can play any format video on this device very smoothly, AS LONG as it doesnt use the dolby AC3 Codec for audio as coreplayer wont play this and you need to revert to the older, non hardware supporting TCMP. Luckily this means about 5% of my media
im hsving problems with the coreplayer key
HTC Album/full screen player plays .mp4's pretty well. Unfortunately, it has a sucky UI (rather, it doesn't have an interface).
you can use newer version of full screen player and htc album which have better interface controls. i would still spring for core player. plays my divx videos perfectly, full visual framerate and matching audio. much better than divxplayer.
Thanks for the replies you guys! So, just to clarify, if I bought a fuze, and downloaded any random video podcast, which is usually mp4, 640x480, I wouldn't be disappointed?

[APP] HTC Sense Music Player

Okay so the new mytouch 3g fender edition has the HTC music player from sense UI and is running on 1.6. Question I have is will we be able to port that apk or that version onto the Nexus one. I wouldnt mind Sense UI on my N1 but until then I would love the HTC music player from my old hero.

It would probably be pixelated.
I would REALLY like to see someone try and port it. The stock music player is junk. I always loved the one in Sense.
Try Nemo Player from the Acer one.
Mixzing music player is a step above the stock one. It comes with 2 music Widgets, which are both quite attractive. I like the 4x4 one better than the sense widget actually.

Any chance of a standalone release?
At modaco, it's in the liquid area. Somebody posted the apk in the thread of the new leaked Ron.

I don't see why everyone likes Nemo so much. The buttons are smaller than the stock music player. It also picks up every single audio file I have, including all my ringtones I created, the stock one does not.
I do love the sense music app, because of the fact you can pretty much switch songs without looking at the screen. That is one of the major fallbacks of this stock music player. Swipe to skip or previous. As well as an EQ.
Sure the nemo player looks good when it comes to UI, but it has needless features (the picture gallery and ability to take photo's) which just makes me dislike it further.
If the Nemo Music player UI incorporated some useful features it might have been better, but it performs exactly the same as the stock player. I haven't found anything that makes it better, so... what makes it better?

I don't really see all the fuss. Other than a better colour scheme it doesn't really seem any better for me than the built in music app and actually lags a bit with the number of tracks I have which is much less pronounced on the standard app
Agreed, I honestly would like to see the HTC music player from Hero, that was perfect, it ran slow on the G1, but it would fly on this phone, and IMHO, that was the best player to date. It had the swipe right in the middle of the screen, which is VERY easy when driving, nice UI, and (maybe only possible w.hero) action buttons on the lock screen tied with it (amazing).
Now could someone please port THAT player? I would pay if someone could do that.
Thats one the best features I miss is the lock screen options on that HTC music player. I use my phone in the gym and Im not always trying to use pandora so it would be worth paying for to have that HTC music player back especially with that feature to use it on the lock screen. The Sense music player is as close to the ipod type that I have seen. Really lets face it I just want a little more sense UI mixed with 2.1 but the music player could probably hold me over. I will admit i am former hero user who jumped to the nexus one but no regrets. I just cant wait until there is a sense ui/2.1 rom out. I would pay money for that.
App ripped, but not fully working.
In the Acer liquid section in Modaco, someone had posted a Sense UI rom for the liquid. I was able to extract the sense music player Apk, and although it ran, it would force close immediately after opening (graphics were fine, not pixelated). I tried copying over some additional files related to the app, but still no joy. Since I don't have the installer and lack expertise, it's going to be tough to figure it out on my own I think. Anyone have any ideas? BTW, I ripped it from the liquid rom to ensure that the resolutions were comparable.

Install Droid Explorer and hook it up to your PC and use LogCat to see what errors it gives, will give an idea of where to start, at least.
Well, i found a way to run htc music player on the N1. Unfortunatly it doesn't work properly
It can play all songs stored on the Sdcard but it's unable to select a playlist or selected songs.
Whatever it's a first step and maybe someone can port this app fully working on this device.
If some of you are interested by this, i can share the zip file.

Is it possible to encode a DVD for the HD2 that doesn’t have “lip sync” issues??

I would be really, really greatfull if anybody could point me in the direction of any video/audio encoder software for a pc that I will convert a DVD to MP4 that will play on the HD2 with out BLOODY LIP SYNC issues??? (I don’t mind paying for it if it works)
I am beginning to wonder if it is possible to play any MP4 material on the HD2 with out the video/audio sync being out.
I used to own a HD1 and used protection’s great free app for this and the results were very good. Video was a little bit jerky but the lip sync was spot on
The audio is about a second behind when I play those files on the HD2???????, (When playing them on a PC sync is also spot on, so the video is not artificially delayed for the purposes of being in sync for the HD1)
I have tried Videora HTC Converter; trial version of DVD Catalyst 3, Handbrake, and Mp4ForHD and no matter how I set them up the lip sync is always out???
The main reason I upgraded to a HD2 was because of the large screen and fast processor for playing back video but it is worse that the HD1 due to lip sync. (also the video is still not any where near as smooth as the iphone and it has a 1GHz processor!!!!)
I am beginning to get very disappointed in the HD2 and any help would be much appreciated.
(P.S, this is using stock rom and various Cooked roms and the results as the same)
Thanks
Jason
Try this. After encoding there is an ability to synchronisize picture and sound. Most time this toll isn´t needed, because the rips are in high quality. Use the archos7 settings for the rip. And set volume to +2, otherwize it´s much to loud. Brightness has the best results with +6, the sound quality at 7% and the picture at 80%, because more quality let the file grow to more than 1 GB. For Playback use the Leo TCPMP, it´s the best player for these rips.

I had the same problem, but got good results from: mp4forHD. There is an update/add-on for the HD2 which gives good picture and sound. Easy to use and all the settings are there for you.
Plays back perfectly in the standard HD2 video player.

enjoy!
I use Handbrake 0.9.4,
Settings : MP4 , i dont use H.264,
Use FFmpeg, bitrate : 1500Kbps for anime, 2000Kbps for movie/songs.
Plays flawlessly on HD2.
converted 1080p, 720p, DVD, Youtube HD Vids, all to mp4 and plays well on HD2. no problem.
Thanks for all the answers, I have tried them all and I find that the lip sync is still out?
On mp4forHD, I used the HD2 profile and the sync was still way out.
I found that Handbrake 0.9.4, was the best using MP4, instead of H.264 but it is still not perfect.
I am playing the material using both WMP and HTC player. What I am doing wrong?
The HD2 is a bit if a disappointment to me in the video play back department considering its spec it promised so much.
I already used protections Video encoding GUI for my HD1 and don’t recall any lip sync issues on that device.
hi all,
3/4 of synchronization problems come from encoding when it is done with a variable rate codec VBR, for greater compatibility, it is recommended to use a fixed rate compression call CBR when encoding audio
Ok, but what I don’t understand is why files that are perfectly in sync when played on a pc and on the HD1 are out of sync when played on the HD2???
It’s as if the only way to get them in sync is to artificially delay the video when encoding...
I could sort of understand it more if it was the other way round as video generally takes longer to process than audio, but why should the audio be around 0.5 to 1 second delayed??? Don’t make sense to me.
Another thing I have noticed is that videos plays a lot smother when using WMP than using the HTC player, which is a shame as the HTC player is nicer to use in my opinion. The disappointing thing is I really didn’t expect any juddering of video on the HD2 after using the HD1 considering that it has a 1ghz processor which is FOUR times fast than the HD1, and I certainly wasn’t expecting this annoying lip sync issue.
People I know with iphones just laugh when I show them the never 100% smooth and, at best, slightly out of sync video performance on the HD2. The only thing they are jealous of is the bigger screen, which rumours say the next iphone will address.
Oh well, I suppose you have to put it down to the HD2’s main handicap, Windows Mobile. Hope version WM7 is better (if we can even use it on our HD2’s) sorry rambling onto a completely new subject now.
Never really had any massive problems with Handbrake. Ripped Top Gun and it was perfectly in sync for the entire movie.
If anyone here thinks the movies aren't desynced, look again. You might have just missed it the first time because the effect is subtle.
CBR, ABR, VBR, 3 different AAC codecs, 2 different MP3 codecs, even tried encoding the video differently. Every single time the sync was perfect on every device, computer, etc EXCEPT THE HD2.
There MUST be a way to fix this-- what's happening is that the audio is delayed slightly. To account for this, I'm currently purposefully encoding the audio at about 1/5 of a second in so that it accounts for the ~200-250ms desync (which is present in every video...including the stock ROM's Transformers movies!). This works but the file can't be played on any other system or computer of course because the file will be off by that 1/5 or 1/4 second.
Tried stock and 4 other ROMs. All exactly the same. I tried not to keep a single setting in common--fresh hard reset, etc. It's always there, and people have been complaining about it. Some people just don't notice 1/5 or 1/4 second delays. XD Or you think it's normal for the mouths to move a bit before the talking can be heard.
Surely a setting? Maybe it's something BSB tweaks can address? Somebody must know _something_, and the whole community would like to know what it is and how to fix our $450-700 de-synced movie players (HD2).
i use imTOO ultimate video converter. converted Spiderman, great quality and great sound. 10/10. file size was about 1.2gb. around the same size of transformers that it came with. but it looks the same

What programs can you use that will create an audio delay?
Hi,
I have found audio sync (amongst other) issues with all the free products noted on XDA that i've tried. Another issue I also noticed was the complicated configuration recommendations from people. Whilst helpful, it was fruitless as all the output was still desynced (and some products couldn't even output 800x480). I downloaded a demo of SPB Mobile DVD and with a couple of clicks I can convert stored video files and DVD's with perfect sync to quality 800x480 xvid or WMV ro watch on either media player or the HTC player. I also found that the DivX Player provides options for audio sync so if you want to use one of the free products which doesn't sync you can align the audio when you watch it on your HD2.

Sorry, but it's not a software issue at all. The only way "SPB Mobile DVD" or any other conversion program can produce files which play without the audio delay is if these programs ruin the video by delaying in the opposite direction. Yes, there are programs that you can use to introduce a negative delay--ffdshow will do it if you can get directshow to use it. Avisynth has a delayaudio(float) function which accepts negative values.
But none of these workarounds solves the problem of why all audio is delayed on the HD2. Not just videos--Games, etc all have the problem. Coreplayer is a software decoder you can use to set a manual delay decoder-side... but this means you can't use the powersaving video acceleration of the device, and the files don't play back properly (skipped frames, reduced colors, no HE-AAC support, aliasing).
I have tried just about every bit software and settings on this forum and I am unable to get any decent quality in sync results.
Thought I would try SPB Mobile DVD, don’t what I am doing wrong, but I can’t seem to get it to convert from a DVD. It gets al the way to the last screen then just “freezes” and doesn’t start converting. Have tried with a number of DVD’s.
It starts converting ok when I pick a single file to convert, (it for some reason will only let you select one file and not multiple DVD files from this option??) but I don’t want to do that, I want to convert a DVD.
Any Ideas?????
That confirms it. This is not a software issue. The HD2 has an audio/video bug that HTC needs to fix: a 250ms audio delay.

Sorry curiousGeorge what confirms it?
I too believe that the HD2 is at fault here as everything I encode via about 15 different pieces of software I have tried play back with perfect sync on the PC and out of sync on the HD2
THIS REALLY IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!!!
The only saving hope I have of the HD2 video play back capabilities is a clip I downloaded from post 14 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628092&page=2
It plays back perfectly in sync and perfectly smooth and the quality is amazing.
I would just LOVE to know how this was encoded and if it is possible to get anything near this from a DVD.
(I tried the program and settings mentioned on the thread and all I got was a load of MPEG4 files that looked rubbish and were out of sync)
With regard to SPB Mobile DVD, I finally got this to work on my pc but the resulting file does not play back with any sound???!!! So I don’t know if it has sync issues or not. It is also CRAP video quality and juggers all over the place.
I am really getting pi**ed off with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DVD Encode
I've found there is no need to encode Dvds specifically for the hd2. I've downloaded films from the net and copied them straight to the sd card. Played them through coreplayer and they play perfectly. Divx play with great quality.

Because that video was encoded with a audio delayed added. It's a system flaw of the HD2 to play normal in synced video with a slight audio delay. Not really that audible to those who ain't looking for it, but it's there. And unless HTC does something to solve it, posting it in every thread out there isn't gonna change anything but sound irritating.
Do you know how to use the DVD encoding portion of winmenc? That could account for your wrong outputs. Or are the dvds CSS protected? Only non-protected dvds can be decoded direct. If not, you should use an app like DVDShrink to extract and decode those dvds to your pc, then use those source files in winmenc. Those will encode fine.

Which music player are you using?

I've tried different music players and to me there's no clear winner as all seem to have some good qualities but also some drawbacks. So I'm wondering what music player you have been using and why.
Lately I've been using mixzing which has most of the features I want. There aren't many drawbacks, except I wish there was a skin option (I would like to have bigger buttons while playing in portrait mode) and the possibility of launching it and have the music that was playing last start immediately (like an ipod). I also wish it would somehow integrate with the stock lock screen showing the music currently playing.

",) ).It was raining an ocean,so I pluged in some earbuds started up Meridian an started playing some downloaded podcasts. After I have drayned I went online and found out that 3 Cubed was recomended for a nice 3D-effect cube (some sort of eyecandy..)But that wasnt the thing that made me switch,it was that the widget was smaller then Meridian and that I was able to change musictracks just by pressing the ON/off key on my cellphone and unlock. That was handy becouse I have an lockpattern on my cell. That means I could save me some toutches
As a multimedia-player (videoplayer and steamingplayer) they olso play music but Ive started using 3 as the prefferd player. If I have recorded videoes with my cell I often just use the built in or Meridain (I havent uninstalled it yet..Even thou Im running out off storrage on the "inernal".Since I havent rooted my cellphone and the OFFICIAL 2.2 ROM adjustments to Desire is HTC christmaspresent too me).The same goes when Im watching streams from TED or other sites.
I know that Meridian allow me too set "always on while playing"-setting but I found out that 3 solution was so nice that I might just uninstall Meridian since I need all the space I can get on Deisre
Just my 2 cents.
EDIT:Some letters had dissapeard and some of them was changing places on my reply
bTunes
After being disappointed with the built in player for HTC Legend, i tried many free music apps, like doubleTwist, 3, zimly, TuneWiki, meridian, Music Player etc etc. Everyone had one or two cool features and one or two drawbacks. Design, function, bugs, etc.
i finally found bTunes and went ahead and bought it.
It does look exactly like the player in iphone, but it has loads of features and settings, like for podcast/audiobooks, a lock screen (on top of the regular), cover art downloads automatically, lots of sorting options, etc. To sum it up, it feels more robust and one feels that a lot of thought as been put into it.
Although i must admit this is the only paid player i have tested, but all my needs are satisfied with this one, so i neednt look any further.
MixZing is the only one I've tried that I like more than the stock player. The lock screen and widget choices are what sold me. Well worth the seven dollars. I agree with the OP that skins would be a welcomed feature, but isn't a dealbreaker for me as long as the interface looks refined (which it is).
FOr now Im using Museek. Its not perfect, but its free, has pretty solid sound quality, and has a few nifty features with no real drawbacks.
Subsonic for music streaming. I keep almost nothing on my phone anymore and it works great.
Ambling for audio books.
Dog catcher for podcasts. Older program but works great.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Spotify is the best music player I've used.
doubleTwist all the way, works great, looks great, sync great with its partner PC/Mac app.
