Two unique Evo issues, help please - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Rooted Phone running Fresh
When dialing *2 Call in Phone mode, instead of calling Sprint Customer Service it brings me to "Sprint Zone". Any ideas?
Second issue. About 15% of the time and almost 80% of the time with certain people calling, swipeing the screen in a downward motion does not answer the call. I can stand there and swipe and swipe and swipe and if it doesnt want to respond it wont, until I get the missed call notice. Then the phone works fine until it happens again.
Ideas or thoughts?

Unfortunately, the *2 issue is present in many peoples phones... This is an error with Sprint. As far as a fix is concerned, I'm not sure.
As far as the swipe issue... I'm sorry, I don;t know what is causing this for you. :-/

HTC Touch PRO 2 - FULL OF BUGS - Please review these and let me know!!!!!

Hi Everyone -
I have used the HTC touch PRO for about 3 weeks now and I have to say it is FULL of bugs . Can you guys confirm or deny this:
1. If the phone is set to vibrate, it will go back to "RING" after a single call. Meaning if someone calls me once, it will go back to RING. This also happens if the ringer is set to Vibrate and Ring also.
2. When you make a call using the "dial pad", the "dial pad" disappears very quickly and goes to the main screen. Then you have to hit the DIAL button and then KEYPAD to get it back. It is very annoying when you call your bank or an airline where you have to go through a series of promts like entering your ID numbers, pins, etc.
3. The camera seems to come on sometimes by just touching the screen.
4. If you have multiple numbers associated with a contact (home, work, mobile etc), it shows one number when dialed. For example, when I dial my friends HOME number, it dials the home number correctly, but on the display it shows the MOBILE number being dialed.
5. Unable to send a CONTACT's info by SMS directly from the CONTACTS page. It will send a MMS but not a SMS. THis is when someone asks for a phone number of a person and you just want to send it automatically from your phone book.
I am sure there are other bugs also, but the above are the most annoying as hell.
I want to make sure this is with everyone or just my phone!
Thank you
hey,idk how helpful this willbe but it seems like these phones str8 out of the box are having problems...ive read that a hard reset will get rid of some of the unwanted bugs...you may try that
1. Just tested and after call vibrating stayed on.
2. The keypad goes away but not to the home screen. So all I have to do is hit on key, keypad to get back to it.
3. never had that happen.
4. Confirmed. Seems to default to the first number stored maybe??
5. Confirmed. Most likely because it is sending the vcard or something as an attachment???

My experience is the same with the Verizon branded TP2.
#5 It sends it as vCard attachement.
I Just open the contact info to edit then copy and past it into SMS.
Returning TP2 tomorrow
Used the TP2 for 3 weeks;
1. Screen clicks when touched, guess the slider hinge is loose;
2. Set vibrate then ring, keeps going back to ring only everytime the phone is powered off and back on, (standby on); this is the mode I use often, not to annoy people in meetings, and not to miss calls;
3. Cant set screen dim time to more than 10seconds, it dims after 10seconds no matter what the settting is;
4. Internet brower lunch from home gets stuck randomly, have to hit end go back to home, then internet again;
5. GPS performance with Sprint Navigation is much worse than Touch; It takes much longer to lock, and it lose GPS often; Maybe a software thing, Google map seems to work fine.
Non of the bugs are serious, but very annoying! The phone is too big, too heavy, too expensive ($349 from Sprint)! Miss the dial pad; The only good thing is the beautiful screen.
Hopefuly WM6.5 upgrade will fix these, but dont want to get stuck with waiting for the upgrade, I've just re-activated my old touch, and returning TP2 tomorrow.
You can add the issue of not being able to keep static IP's assigned to the network adapter for use while in your workplace or business, and then when not in the workplace haveing the ability to use sprints data services. In otherwords everything has to be dynamic. If you want to use static ip's while in range of wifi, you have to clear it out when you leave the wifi spot in order to use regular evdo.
gps is fast and accurate
fast if you disable touch flo and use mobile shell
Another bug
When viewing NFL mobile, after about two minutes into showing something, the phone reboots itself. Quite annoyin'!

1. I've heard of this happening after soft reset but it doesn't happen on my phone
2.Works perfectly fine on mine, all you do is hit the 'Keypad' button and it should stay up. if you end up at the home screen hit 'phone' and then keypad and you should be good....do you have a dialer skin on it?
3.Never happens for me
4. haven't tried, i don't have any contacts with multiple numbers
5. haven't tried but i usually just copy/paste phone numbers for sms
definitely try hard reset. and if it's got a warranty or anything like that you still have the option to return/exchange it
well speak of the devil my phone started showing some of these symptoms later in the evening and now even worse when i make calls i can hear people talking but they can hear me
a hard reset fixed it but when i restore my backup files it goes back to messing up so maybe it's one of the tweaks i ran?
is there a way to use sprite mobile to only restore contacts/sms? that's all i really need i'll think i'll hold off on the tweaks and just wait for the HSPL unlocker
Hope these problems are all fixed when the HardSPL is released.
As for now, I am holding my breath waiting to see if the gps problem is fixed on a new rom, waiting to buy this phone.

'you'll probably get the imaggio isntead it's the upgrade of your phone'...no stupid i need a keyboard
mine keeps switching from Ring and Vibrate to Ring as well

Accidentally hitting HOLD button during calls?

I'm noticing that during many of my calls, I apparently hit the HOLD button accidentally with my cheek. My proximity sensor seems to be working fine, and the screen does turn off appropriately when I hold the phone against my face. I'm assuming that at certain angles enough light gets through to the sensor to turn the screen on, and I accidentally hit the button in the corner. Anyone else have this issue? Is there any way to circumvent this? Thanks
Unfortunately i can't help but i am getting the same issue
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
I tried applying different dialer apps and they only serve to change the dialer/contact screens, but the default calling screen containing the HOLD button remains unchanged. I found that using Skype as the default dialer fixes this issue since it uses its own dialing/calling screens, but obviously it's not practical to just rely on Skype. So the problem still remains unresolved.
As an update, someone on Reddit posted a download link to the Google dialer app here at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/themes-apps/app-google-dialer-t3323432
This installs a new dialer, which actually provides a new calling screen as well, fixing the main issue. The default dialer is better in my opinion since it opens up the dial pad immediately while this one doesn't, but this is a good option at this point

even worst than calls is when you press it while watching youtube vids, i wish there was a lock of some sort cuz the music stops paying all the sudden
It's embarrassing when I put my clients on hold and don't realise until they don't respond to me. The cheek hold doesn't result in any audible sound so you can be talking for 20 seconds with the other end on hold. I love the S7 edge but I'm contemplating sending it back. I'll try the Google dialer mentioned above first though
Same issue here. I talk on the phone almost 2 hours a day and this is happening at least 1-2 times in every call! Checked my proximity sensor and it's working as it should.
Any workarounds? Maybe someone can edit the phone.apk and remove this stupid button or disable it? I am against rooting but I will definitely root my phone if there's a fix for this.
Damn, I suffer exactly the same issue! Found this googling for ideas...
Very old thread, but I just wanted to give a suggestion to others with the same issue. I really love the Google Phone dialer app, which actually replaces the calling screen during calls with this app's own screen, so you no longer have the Hold button at such an unfortunate location. If you do choose Google's app, I recommend this specific version: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-release/google-phone-2-05-07_rc4-android-apk-download/
The caller-ID function by Google actually works with this version, whereas the other .apk files floating around do not have this function working properly.
I'm having the same issue and I've installed the Google phone, however as soon as I place the call, the existing on-screen options pop up.
The option to disable the default phone app is greyed out in settings, so unsure on how to resolve.

Finally searched for the answer to this today, after several accidental holds on work calls.
The solution above with Google Phone APK worked for me. I just went to SETTINGS - APPLICATIONS - DEFAULT APPLICATIONS and then under Calling App near the top, changed it from Contacts to Phone. . For some reason, I cannot open the phone app itself (gives an error message) but calls do use the phone app rather than Samsung stock dialer.
Turn off screen!! Most phones allow you to turn screen off without interrupting the call.
Same issue with a galaxy A5 2016
Can't understand why samsung doesn't fix it

Question Wake up on incoming call

I paid attention that lately it took several seconds, I think more than 5, to wake up on incoming call. It means that i can here the ringtone of incoming call, but screen is off and some times even if the screen is on it takes up to 3 seconds to the phone app to appear with a possibility to answer or reject the call. Does it happen only for me?
so far i would say yes, cause i never faced that strange behavior on any of my Xperia's

Thank you. For some reason right now the time of the appiriance on screen became less than 3 seconds, but still looks like some delay... Have no idea how that happened...
I Had the same Problem with my old Xperia 5II. I have tried New sim card, sd card, factory reset nothing was working. I have changed the Phone with a New one and Had no more problems with this.
But this Was Not the only Thing on my Xperia 5II. If i become an incoming call 2 or 3 times in short time my 5II restart completly and If i taked a call i dont See for a long time the call screen.
I Hope You Can understand me, because my English ist Not the yellow from the egg
Edit: i think only change the Phone Can help you
Rather late reply, but I'm just a new user of the device. Yes I have the same issue. Call comes, but screen remains black. Takes way too much time to allow me to answer the call.
Don't you face the same issue when you try to unlock it/wake it up? It takes a lot of time for the screen to wake up, even if I try to push the power button multiple times. Fingerprint does not get recognized during this time either, no vibrations at all.

Question Frustrated with Google dialer

I don't know about you guys, but the Google dialer is one of the worst human factors designs with the latest iteration.
A right-handed person typically puts the phone up to the right side of their face and the cheek, even with the sensor to turn off the screen on, hits the mute button to mute the phone.
This is extremely frustrating. What does everyone else think about the dialer? What do you guys use? Workarounds?
simple workaround, don't touch the phone to your face

I'll take it under advisement. But my face looks like this... View attachment 5773213
It's not just the dialer but also contacts inside the dialer is not of the best design imho. Coming from a Samsung Note 20 Ultra I thought I would love the original Android feel but I do miss some of the improvements Samsung made from an ergonomic point of view. I do like the aesthetics of the p7p very much.
I have never had an issue with this. It doesn't matter which side of my face I put the phone up to, the proximity sensor stops me from hitting any buttons.
Also, I thought most right-handed people put their phone to the left side of their face like I do so they have their right hand free to do other things lol. I even put my phone in my left pocket.
I do agree about the contacts in the dialer though. Never been a fan of it. At least Google has smart dialing for contacts in the dialer though so I never have to actually use the contacts section.

An interesting phenomena.. How many people use which hand when calling. But yes, I should probably not put the phone to my face, also when I squash the phone into my neck and shoulder when I have to use both hands, the mic get's smooshed and people can't hear me. I just have a terrible face

Honestly sounds more like you have a terrible proximity sensor. Mine is so sensitive that it drives me nuts sometimes. Like the other day I was on a call and put it on speaker so I could answer some text messages and trying to swipe down the notification panel with my index finger was just turning the screen off so I had to actually angle it down and to the left to get the drawer open.
I'm right handed and I use my left hand to make a phone call...
+1 on the the right handed people holding phone in left to dial with the right hand.
I'm righthanded and use my right hand to hold and dial the phone.

Welcome to the club brother. It feels so weird in my left hand to make a call.
I am predominantly left handed in that i write and throw left handed but use both hands and either ear to make calls, thanks to the world being right handed i am comfy using either hand for most things and i havent noticed a problem when on a call and i swap sides regularly thought a call.
The other features i miss in pixel after coming from OnePlus -
- allow to dial a number from second sim card. I know I can switch the sim after dialing a number but that is a bit frustrating if you don't want to share both your numbers and dialled the number by mistake from the sim you intend not to
- i miss the native video call from my native network provider which was so easy and independent of any additional app. I wish Google could bring it back and not force to use duo for video calls.

I mean you can do this but it's going to prompt you before every call to choose what SIM to use.
Here is my case
Im right handed but use my phone mostly by my left hand single hand. Actually it feels un natrual for me to use my right hand and the phone.
As for the dialer, my god its so lacking. Im also a "true phone" user for many many years. But here are some things im facing.
1. If i use true phone then i loose on call screening feature that the stock dialer offers.
2. Ability to select which sim to use when dialing
3. Ability to use same sim to call back. Lets say if i receive a call on sim 1, when i dial back to should automatically use that same sim to call back.
On my oneplus 7 pro i ran both that stock dialer and "true phone" side by side which doubled up the features for me. Currently if i set the stock dialer as default dialer then "true phone" doesnt open and vice versa.
Also maybe its a bug in "true phone" but lets say if its set as the default dialer, when i want to do call forwarding, the true phone only takes me to the system forwarding menu but i cant know which sim it is since im running 2 sims.
And finally the t9 search, " true phone" is miles ahead.
What a dilemma

Besides the design flaws, the dialer stopped working mostly since the December update. Most annoying is that it no longer shows when a call comes in. And it's still a phone right? So this is one of the things, if not the first, that should just work!
Clearing cache and data doesn't help. Will be downgrading the phone app to the November version.
Huh ? I use it on my right cheek as well, never accidentally mute the call tho. Although i always awarely give gap between cheek and screen, because i have oily skin, and hate the need to wipe my screen after each call.
Google contacted me after I made some serious complaints about the dialer and other bugs. Said 'they will be working on this, thanks'. I installed Simple Dialer from Simple Mobile Tools, paid .79 cents to give it normal colors and my phone now works like a phone...

Question Screened a call from someone in contacts .

The other day I got a call from someone in my contacts who regularly calls me and the phone screened it , it never did that before. Any reason why it would do such a weird uncalled for type of thing all of a sudden.. ? Thanks
Anyone ?

This has happened to me before or turn off screen calling? I find everyone just hangs up when I screen their calls
I have the same issue. I had to turn Call Screen completely off as it was not even screening, but actually treating calls from my wife and kids (who are obviously in my contacts) as if they were spam and sending them directly to Voicemail, phone wouldn't even ring or show the missed call in the call log. I would just see a missed call notification. I have had this same issue on both the QPRs as well as the Stable release, so it isn't something introduced in the most recent QPR. It very well may have existed since I got the phone back in Oct. I raised a bug report, but never heard anything back on it.
My call screening won't even activate. It's been sitting there saying activating (requires wi-fi) since last night.
