[NEVERMIND...I GOT IT WORKING. IT SEEMS LIKE A BAD CONNECTION TO THE SPEAKER. IF I PUSH DOWN ON IT, IT WORKS FINE.]
This morning I was listening to one of my podcasts through bluetooth (A2DP). When I was done, I turned bluetooth off to bring the sound back to the phone. I wanted to show someone a youtube video. It was playing fine through the phones on-board speaker and then all of the sudden it just stopped playing the audio. The video was still playing. Initially I thought it was just a youtube thing but then I tried the music player and no audio would play over the phones speaker. I then tried rebooting the phone. Still no luck. I then used ROM manager to restore one of my backups. No luck. And yes, I have checked all volume levels and they are all turned up. The in call speaker works just fine but speaker phone does not. Any suggestions?? Bad speaker/connection? Do I need to go back to the shipped ROM and unroot the phone?
Push down on what?
I am having the exact same issue!!!
Phone calls work fine. But, no sound from speakers.
So I dont hear any notifications, cant put the phone on speaker, no alarm sound, etc.
ok.
i was able to resolve the issue. I had to push down hard on the speaker with my thumb, and wala!!! it started working.
i did a factory reset though... arrrrrgghhh... i wish i had tried this before the dang factory reset. Oh well, atleast the sound is working now.
I had this problem when I bought my Captivate and installed a clear plastic case made by Incipio. The case had a really tight fit. I believe it was squeezing the Captivate housing which causes the speaker to not make a connection to the circuit board. I found out when I was just playing around with ringtones and suddenly I couldn't hear anything coming out of the speaker. I rebooted the phone and even the animated AT&T and Galaxy S logos didn't make a sound. I played an MP3 and still no sound until I lightly tap the phone against my palm. I got the sound back. This happened again when I was showing a video to my friends. The sound cut off. I tapped the phone against my palm again. I got the sound back.
The following morning, I removed the case and played an entire album through the speakers. I did not encounter any speaker problems. I concluded that it must have been the tight case by Incipio which I had purchased at the AT&T store. I returned it and got the Body Glove gel case. Better.

I can't figure this out. The sound will randomly stop working on my Gtab.
No matter what I do, besides rebooting I cannot get it to come back on. When I try to go into sound options and touch the media slider or the alarm slider the activity force closes.
I have Vegan 5.1 installed with the 5.11 supplement over it.
I've tried wiping and installing fresh multiple times and it keeps happening. Only a reboot fixes it.
If someone can help me I'd really appreciate it.
It won't help you but I have the same problem
I discovered this while disconnecting BT headset and the audio was
never rerouted back to speakers.
Add me to the list, but playing with the 3 slider revived it, hapened after I pluged the earphones and removed them

Hey guys I too have this problem and cannot fix it
I've noticed the same problem. Running Vegan 5.11 also.
So is this a problem only vegan users are seeing? Anybody with TNT or any of the other ROMs seeing this at all?

Yeah, it happens with me also, the only thing that seems to work is to plug in a headset into the audio jack and remove it while the audio is playing.
I can't believe more people are not having this problem. I mean the headphones removal thing doesn't even work for me. I pretty much always have to reboot. It makes this great tablet such a pain in the butt to use.
Same for me here...
Same for me here... Using TnT Lite 4.2.0
Audio works perfectly in my bluetooth stereo headset. Turning off bluetooth, I have no audio from speakers, and only from right when using headphones via the audio jack...
Don't know what to do.
UPDATE:
In my case it appears that some headphones plug pushed the last tab too far, leaving it making contact with something that disables speakers. I tested this by playing with a plug, moving it to the sides until sound comes back for a second. I tried to pull out the tab from inside the jack but I couldn't. Any one has disassembled the GTab and checked if the tabs are accessible from outside the jack housing?
ANOTHER UPDATE:
OMG I think I made the jack become loose, maybe I pushed too hard...
Time to get it disassembled to check from inside :-S
Playing "I got a feeling" in the external speakers !
I got it fixed... I had to open it, adjust the headphones jack's tabs and resolder.
What I learned:
1. Will never plug anything in that jack ! It's too fragile. It doesn't have reinforcing tabs, only the six surface contacts soldered... I'm really disappointed about this. So, only Bluetooth headphones for me.
2. The audio jack housing is very fragile as well, I cracked mine.
3. I had to reinforce both audio and power jacks with melted glue and a plastic tab between them.
3. I will use the power jack very gentle from now on. It's the same install like the audio jack, too fragile. If the tablet falls with the power cable connected, it will broke for sure.
4. I'm going to replace this tablet for another with android but with better construction, I suppose motorola or samsung.
Well, happy anyway that the speakers are working again.
Plug in headphones, wait.... pull out headphones. Yay!!! sound again. I just started carrying a pigtail with me in my Gtab case. Just the plug from old crap headphones I cut off.
Something I've noticed that helps a lot is to not press the volume button in increments. Just hold it and not let go until you've reached the appropriate level.

This, as I mentioned does NOT at all work for me. Ever. It's never once worked to do that.
At this point I'm really considering ponying up another 200 or so and get something that I don't have to reboot 5 times a day.
Hello everyone!
My external speaker suddenly stopped working. So now I cant go handsfree, I dont hear rings of incoming phones, or any sound that comes thru the external speaker.
Funnily the vibration during incoming calls doesnt come either. But it still vibrates while navigating thru menus.
I think a hardware reset might do the trick, but I cant tell before tomorrow, since I need to backup my files first.
Or is there a known bug with latest mango or a htc specific bug?
Okay vibration seems to work as it should, maybe I didnt feel it the first time I tested it.
Just now I had a moment where I heard menu sounds and then I quickly tried to play a ringtone which also came thrru the speakers but as you can guess, it stopped working again...
more update after the hardware reset tomorrow
It may just be the speaker blown out like mine did only 5 weeks after purchase. Not a big deal, the speaker is the same one as HTC EVO so a replacement part is easy to do yourself or through the Phone Carrier store (that has a repair center).
Since replacement mine has been fine since. When it was blown, it still worked, but was painful to listen to.
Ok thx. I will do that. I hoped it was some software error.
Taking my Arrive in today for the same thing. It just blew a few days ago, and any sound coming out of the external speaker just sounds distorted and garbled.
Hi Forum,
This is my first post so forgive me if this is in the wrong place
My phone is roughly a year old, and today I ran into a weird and potentially phone killing problem
I received a few phone calls from my girlfriend today, the ringer rang loud and clear, but I heard no sound from my ear piece. After a few "Hello?"s, I hung up thinking it was a bad connection. Upon seeing my girlfriend afterwards, she said she heard me on my end. So I got her to call me again and I tried to use speaker phone, and I could hear her fine.
Doing some research on google, I only ran across one other person who had this problem, and upon seeing this, I tested my music player, (as theirs didn't work), and mine doesn't work either
This other person said the problem resolved itself a day later.
In short, my ear piece has no sound during a phone call and my media sound doesn't work (though it works w/ headphones.) My notification sounds and speaker phone DO work
Do the notification and speaker phone speakers come from a different place than media and ear piece speakers?
Do I have a software issue?
Should I wait like the other person?
Any suggestions?
Thanks forum!
Were you able to resolve this issue by any chance?
Whenever there's pressure on the back of my Transformer (e.g. laying flat on a table), the speaker audio cuts out. It's only started doing this recently but I really don't know since I mostly use it with the dock. Anyone else experience this issue?
A week ago my right speaker suddenly stopped working entirely. They both always worked just fine, never had the balance issue that others had. Then, I was watching a YouTube video one day... I hear a few quiet "pops", and ever since no Right speaker - BOO!!!
Headphones still seem to work just fine though
Haven't opened it up yet, but I'm assuming it'll just need a new speaker. This might actually give me the chance to upgrade them to some louder speakers.. hmm..
Hi all. So, I had previously fixed a few LG G2 phones (sold at a profit too - didn't like all the bloat and PITA to root) and thought to use the money to upgrade to a Nexus 5. Found a great deal on eBay for a working, perfect condition one, with the one exception that the ear piece wasn't working. Bluetooth and speakerphone works fine along with everything else.
I figured no big deal, it's a $3-$7 part and the tear down makes it out to be a pretty easy swap. So I got the phone and ordered the part. While waiting for the part I used Bluetooth headset for calls, or the speakerphone, both work fine. I tried some old Samsung (from my old Galaxy Nexus) headphones with mic and those worked fine too. Tried a pair of Sony headphones, works.
Here's the issue, so I got the part swapped. Still no sound. Oddly enough, the speaker doesn't work either now, sort of. So the ear piece is completely dead with the new or original part in it. I don't remember, though I think I can recall that the speaker worked for media (songs, games, videos, Netflix, etc.) but the speaker works for phone calls and notification sounds.
Strange right? Anyone else run into this issue or have a fix or idea?
Sorry but I have to...did you turn up the volume? Remember there are separate volume sliders in different places.

Ah yes, forgot to include. I have all the volumes (software) up. I've checked multiple programs (see some results below), I have flashed factory 4.4.4, 5.0 and 5.0.1 and even Paranoid's ROM onto this phone, nothing changes which leads me to believe its a hardware issue, but I have changed out the earpiece with a brand new OEM one. Cache wiped, data and Davlik wiped, factory reset over and over. I have rebooted the phone countless times, I have inserted headphones over and over. I swear that the speakerphone did work before, but I cannot remember if it ever did for media since I rarely use that feature (headphones and Bluetooth are my key). So if it did, I have no idea when/what changed before it worked to when it didn't.
It has not been dropped or submerged in any liquid, I take good care of my phones. Yes, they go in my pants pocket for travel, but sit on my desk when I'm not outside. I don't sweat so much walking around the city that I get moisture to the phone that way, never had before in the years that I do this. Nothing has dropped on it, dropped near it or had electromagnetic shock (I've worked in enterprise server environments for 20+ years, so I know how to handle electronic equipment to make repairs). Details:
I CAN hear the alarm, ring tones, notifications and touch sounds through the bottom speaker. I CAN also hear the receiver of phone calls through the speaker if I use speakerphone when on a call.
I CANNOT hear media through the bottom speaker, like games, (Plants vs Zombies 2, Angry Birds, PBA Bowling - yes boring choices) or music (Google Play, Slacker or Pandora) or videos (Netflix, YouTube, my own on MX player). I've tried the app to make the earpiece on for this to make it "stereo" to no avail. Basically, it would seem anything that has "stereo" output doesn't work while "mono" sounds do.
I CANNOT hear anything through the earpiece at all, nothing, nada, zero.
I CAN hear through the earphone plug and I I CAN hear via Bluetooth. This goes for ALL SOUNDS.
Hope that covers everything. Anyone want to buy a Nexus 5 32GB in black with these problems?
