Here's a little something I have been working on for the android images that show up when you mount your phone to your pc.
As always, do a nandroid backup before hand, yadda, yadda, not responsible for broken stuff, yadda, yadda, yadda, too broke to buy you a new phone. That being said this is working for me on CM 6.

looks cool, gonna try it, i take it this is a metamorph zip, and not to try to flash via recovery.

Right on, install Metamorph then load the zip into the sd card under the "android themes" folder. From there you open MM, then follow the instructions until you get to the "unzip new theme" button. It will give you a list to choose different themes from, select the one you want, it will prompt you a few more times to check things, then hit the "apply all" button after the pop-ups stop. It will most likely cause your phone to reboot automatically, but upon booting up the theme should work.
Hope that makes sense...
In the second screenshot; "USB storage in use", shouldn't the button label read "Turn Off USB Storage"?

Yeah, I have to fake some of the screen shots as you cant be mounted to pc and save a shot to your sd card at the same time unfortunately. And my computer is so old Google doesnt make an sdk for it, so no adb for me.
But I was just trying to show the other view mostly, so people could see if they wanted it or not. I would welcome better screen shots if someone can figure out how to take a few.
But a few donations might be able to help that comp situation out if you're in the mood.
I applied this morph and it looks great. Thanks!
BTW- Dev's feel free to use any of my work pre-built into your ROM if you wish. I may be able to customize to order as well, time permitting.
Won't install on CM nightlies. Totally hangs metamorph.

***Ok, just installed cm nightly from today (cm_passion_08092010-171927.zip), and didnt have any issues with it. Did you do a full data and cache wipe, including dalvik cache? Thats really the only thing I can think of....maybe something from a previous rom might be hanging around giving you some kind of issue. I even checked to make sure the path or file names haven't changed, but they were still good.

Yeah, I looked into DDMS real quickly, but again seems like you need to be able to at least run the sdk, which I can't as im on a G5 PPC Mac. Afaik, Google doesnt even make an sdk for it. So i think that rules out any of the sdk tools for me, but im not an expert so i could be wrong.
Its a pain because this is also the reason that I can't theme with any .9.png's. Ive read that you need the special .9 tool inside the sdk for that. So right now im limited to just replacing normal system images, barring any sort of job in my future that will allow me to pay for something better. But, heres to hoping

So today before work I installed the Kavana 6.1 rom onto my Dash. Awesome with the exception of the keypad not being mapped the way i was used to. So I read forums about this and decided to download the t9 mapping. I unzipped the files on my computer and transfered them into a newly created folder inside of the windows folder....thats where things went bad. Now when I hit the start menu no icons load up, only the name of the program or application, and when i attempt to select it, i am prompted "error opening the shortcut or locating the filename. In essence the only thing I can do on my phone is text, call, or utilize any feature which is on the home screen. The worst part is I cannot syn to my computer as the usbstorage.ink is under the start program I screwed up royally, and I could use some insight from anyone who might be able to help me. Was the file a zip or a cab?
On further inspection I found that you can sync the phone from the home screen, so I tried installing the Kavana rom again, but it keeps saying there is no device connected. It shows up on "my computer" as drive F. You can explore folders on it and such but I would ultimatly like to figure out how to redownload this OS, and not screw it up lol. Again any help is greatly appreciated

Yea! Its cool though! You can go into settings and select clear storage instead of re-flashing and it will restore it to new ROM state and much safer then just copy paste the cab file into you device or storage card and click on the cab and it will install and do all the work for you! A cab is just a program that is sett up to install itself! Biggest thing to learn here is, dont be discouraged, read alot and learn as much as you can about your device! I started with a Dash and moved on to a Wing, now I have a Tilt running on T-Mobile! And i I remember correctly, I unzipped and installed a cab once too!
Now I am starting to cook my own ROMs and its only been a few months! Sorry. Ramling. Just wanted to encourage you! Hope I helped you out!

I got my self the hero, and my wife the Moment. I am slightly jealous of the hardware she has..but that aside, I am in love with my Hero.
However, she does have one app that i really want and the market place does not have. I assume this is an app installed by sprint.
It is Photo and Video uploader. You set an email address or other location and after a video or photo is taken, it automatically uploads the photo to the predetermined destination. GREAT FOR BACKING UP PICTURES! But, her camera hardware blows. 3.2 MP and it is sooo slow. So picture quality is no where near that of the Hero's 5 MP.
So the real question here - -
Can I ADB into her phone and just take the .APK and ODEX file for this app and push it to my phone? Is it that easy???
Some apps are that easy. Give it a try and find out! The worst thing you'll get is some force closes.
However most stock apps require files from /system/lib that help run that apk. And they don't have the same naming convention therefore you won't know which one(s) it is amongst the 100s there. But I always say try and see what happens.
And if it works upload that .apk for the rest of us!
Thinking out loud here...well..you get the point.
Could I copy all of system/lib and only copy the files that dont already exist?
That could be a giant waste of space though, and it could still rely on a file that I have, not just one that isn't there....
Also since I am not "installing" the app, could Apps2SD hinder me? I am not entirely sure how a2sd works other than tricking the phone into using the SD card as a partition and unioning it with the existing part.
I love how open android is supposed to be, but how the darn manufacturers kill us with the different platform crap.

Am I aloud to do that? I have seen XDA Mods get on to some people about uploading APK's. I guess I should read the EULA for that app before I do?

Copying the ../lib/ over and not replacing existing files could work. lol. As for apps2sd... you kind of have two ways you can try installing this. Without copying the lib and all that just try putting the apk on to your sdcard and browsing to it using astro or linda (a file manager) and click on the apk and installing it. See if it errors out or fails. If it does, THEN try copying it and the odex to /system/app (if it has an odex I'm pretty confident you won't be able to install it using package manager). If that still fails then you can go crazy and trying copying the lib ha.

I don't remember if I read it on here or ppcgeeks but I believe officially the only stock apk's not allowed is quick office. But don't quote me on that.
So I hooked up to the Moment through ADB last night.
Found out really quickly that I can SU with it....
There is a "non permanent" hack out there to become root, but I tried it and still couldn't mount the file system to copy from it.
Any ideas guys?
From what I understand the Moment uses an FS16? file System? Something Odd that non of the other droids seem to be using.
Just an Idea, thought I would throw it out there.
Does the temporary root allow for running applications as root an the device itself?
There is an app in the market called root explorer that allows copy/paste/cut/delete from the system/app folder.
It may be possible to use that app to copy the needed filed to your sdcard and then extract them from there.
This would all be contingent on the app being able to mount the directory as r/w though, so who knows, worth a shot though i guess.

This root doesn't allow you to run Root apps. not sure why, seems like root would be root.
After some reading, the root method that is being used on the Moment is not the safest. Apparently if you skip a step you have a brick. And with no Nandroid backup at the moment(pun?) I would HATE to attempt it. Apparently though Root sticks until you reboot. There is an INit. script that runs and resets the permisions.
I know, "Don't skips steps and you'll be ok"
I may get brave and try it tonight...

ROCK ON! Thanks for the link to the dump, I hadn't thought about looking around in one of these.

So any how the application is in that Dump under apps, its only an APK
xms-android-1.0.42-prod.apk
If you are interested in what it does:
You setup predetermined "places" Flikr, FB, EMAIL, what ever.
Any picture or video you take automatically gets put in an upload queue and it sent to your predetermined places.
I am using it for back up, I have 2 kids and sometimes the cell phone is the quickest way to snap a great picture. Keeping these pictures in mutltiple places, like your 7 gig google account, is a nifty way to backup.
I am waiting for a Mod to get back to me if I can post the APK or not. I don't want to get in trouble.

I will let you know in a few minutes. As soon as I get done with my WiFi teether I will compare the two. Pretty sure they should be the same.
EDIT: I am not sure if it is hardware or not. Running the same youTube video side by side - Our HERO has better color quality, Deeper blacker. The Moment has slightly sharper edges to the pictures, not quite as blurry. the moment does not go "Full Screen" for videos either which could be contributing to the sharper look to things. My assumption would be that this is a difference in the hardware. Quality of youTube videos seems to have diminished over the years anyways, none of the really look "good" any more. Probably in an effort to save bandwidth.
However, if you want to take a look personally, I will post the APK for you. Just please don't blame me if you forget to back up the original and want to revert....I love disclaimers.
I was trying to use that picture uploader, for me it stalls on picking a new location. Wonder if it is because I am on gutted rom and missing some pointers somewhere

Code:
adb install xms-android-1.0.42-prod.apk

Works great on the Sprint Hero and MoDaCo ROM

which your app doesn't fit in to. Posting it is not outside of the rules and should be fine.
I don't know anything about this programming. I am a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff. I rooted the phone because I wanted to be have full control over it's capabilities going forward, but I didn't realize I'd need to use these programs on my computer to do it. I thought things would be available through simple downloads.
Anyway, I've spent the last several hours attempting to become at least functional so that I could install another OS on my phone. I have no idea what rebooting in recovery or clearing caches or any of this is. I know it's probably simple, remedial stuff to practically everyone reading this but I am clueless.
I'm sure I could learn and was willing to do so. I downloaded SDK and Java update and Eclipse and painstakingly followed installation instructions several times from several sources. And I can't get the adb to function. My computer won't recognize the path. I'm pretty certain that I've installed everything completely and updated the path accurately, etc. I go through cmd, type in adb and it says it's not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I've gotten to the point where I just want to set my phone back to the way it was when I bought it 2 days ago. I want to go back to being a simple lemming and just oblivious to this whole world. I don't belong over here. I'm out of my league and I know it.
Now the problem I have is that it's supposedly easy to "unroot" the phone. You just have to download 3 things and "flash" them. I don't even know what the **** that means though. And if it invloves using adb (or abd...I don't even know that), then I'm screwed.
I'm really frustrated guys. I'm tired. I should have never attempted this, but it all sounded so easy and awesome. Now I just want my normal, restricted phone back. Can anyone help me?
OK. I got the phone back to it's original state. I know some of you are probably shaking your heads at the decision, but it makes me feel a lot more comfortable.
Maybe if I could figure out how to access adb, it would be different but I just felt handcuffed without it. Well there eventually be ROMs that are more easily installed like re-installing the original was? Will there be ways to just steam it through HTC Sync?
i think one reason why u didnt manage to get adb working is because u didnt set up the environmental variables for java. Go into command prompt and type java. See what that returns.

Thank you for the response. That command produced a long string of information. Is there something in that I should be looking for, or was this just a test to see if it would be recognized?
it was a test to see if java was working fine. By string of commands do u mean like this:
http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/8440/48798806.jpg
Otherwise the problem may be that you havent specified the environmental variables for the android sdk.
Right click on My Computer and go to properties, under the Advanced tab, hit the Environment Variables button, and in the dialog that comes up, double-click on Path (under System Variables). Now what u need to do is add the location of ur sdk to the end of the "Variable Value".
So if u put the adroid sdk folder in the root of ur C drive, then u would add this line
;C:\Android\tools
to the end of the Variable Value line. This depends on where u put the skd folder though. Whats important here is u dont replace whats already there! Just add the line to the end, even the ";" symbol.
Hope this helps. let me know how it goes
Thank you again for the response. Yes, that looks to be the same screen information that appears when I run java in command.
I have the SDK in a folder named AndroidSDK on the root of my C drive. I have added the line ";C:\AndroidSDK\tools" to the end of the path. One thing I just realized is that when I double click the AndroidSDK folder, the next screen contains a single folder named "android-sdk-windows". When I double click that folder I see subfolders for add-ons, platforms, tools, SDK readme, and SDK setup. I'm wondering now if I need to include that "android-sdk-windows" in the path line in order for it to find adb in the tools.
I would really like to solve this adb issue. I still want to learn enough about this stuff to root the phone again and feel comfortable working with it. I'm completely obsessed with this right now. It's driving me mad.
in that case the line you should add would be
;C:\AndroidSDK\android-sdk-windows\tools
I can't believe it was that simple!
Actually I can believe it. Thank you so much for your help. Sorry if I came off as a bit of a drama queen in the OP, but I have just spent about 6 hours messing with this if you include the rooting.
Ok. I think I'm going to give it all another shot. Thanks again. I may be back to this thread again if I end up running into another dead end though.
Glad it worked
Dont worry about it, i can understand ur frustration because this is by no means straight forward.
Hope u enjoy playing with ur soon to be rooted EVO
If you have time to answer another question, I went through the OTA Simple Root process again and everything appears to have worked. But I don't think that finishes the phone in root. I don't have a Superuser app, for instance.
Isn't there something else I need to do? (Install a custom rom maybe?)
If so, how do I accomplish it in the least technical way possible?
Im not too sure with that actually. I dont have an EVO (or any android phone for that matter). But yeah i think the superuser app should appear without flashing a custom rom.
I think you might want to create a thread in the EVO section where im sure many EVO owners will help u out with this. Or maybe a mod could move this thread?

Disclaimer - I have not used the simple root method.
That being said I have helped a few people with this and it seems that the last img file that it flashes does not have super user access. You need to flash a custom ROM in order to fix that. I will post a link to the thread that I was helping in and that should answer some of your questions on how to do that.
Hope that helps

Sent via the Sprint HTC EVO
Just wanted to update this. I finally was able to put it all together. I was previously unaware of the "extras" tab on the OTASimpleRoot program. Just didn't read the instructions in post well enough, which is the story of my life....but I digress.
Anyway, I was able to root the phone again, flash recovery and now I have even gotten to the point where I understand a little bit how to install custom roms. In fact, I just installed my first using Baked Snacks latest update. I've also downloaded ROM manager so in the future I should I have no trouble at all (even though I'm pretty comfortable doing it the "long" way now).
Thanks again to both of the guys above who took the time to read and respond to a complete newbies questions.
I now that I have successfully loaded a custom ROM onto my EVO that it is full root and I don't have to worry about that anymore. I don't have a "superuser" app that I can tell, but I do have a "dev tools" app and folders which I don't think were on the phone before.
Alright, I do have a superuser permissions app. When I click it nothing happens though. I don't know if that's normal or not.
The issue I'm having now is that when the phone was rooted it took it back to the 1.17.651.1 software version. I went through the steps in the "How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47..." thread but the phone doesn't appear to be reading the PC36IMG.zip file. It doesn't ask if I want to update it. I tried it a couple times and then skipped to the second file in that thread (su-2.1-e-unsecure-signed.zip) and got a message about ....something "build". Went ahead with the install but I don't see anything different. Still says I'm on software 1.17.....
Wireless tethering app doesn't work for me, which was the impetus to dig further into this....deeper down the rabbit hole.
Ok. This will be my last update but I'm pretty excited because something has happened to correct issues I was having.
I thought I would go through the root process from start to see if I could get the 1.47 software. Once I got to the second step and did the factory reset, upon reboot it took me to the recovery screen which was different and made me a little nervous. I found the cue to install BakedSnack again from the sdcard and chose that function.
This time things were different than before. For instance, upon booting the phone I got a cool screen saver with streaming, trippy colors instead of the 4G and Sprint crystaline logos. I don't remember this happening the first time I installed this ROM. Once I got into the phone I noticed some minor changes I didn't notice the first time. The music widget wasn't on the second page, nor the nascar or football crap either. I think they were there before. Then I went into apps and saw ROM manager installed and superuser and Wifi tethering. Went straight to wifi tethering and low and behold it works like a charm.
Last but least, I went to check the software and I am now running 1.47. I don't know why it's on their now. This is all still a little mysterious to me. I could swear this Baked ROM is a little different than the first time I had it on the phone. Maybe that's my imigination. Maybe the factory wipe did something. I don't know but I'm very happy now.
Congrats

Thanks again man!
What a difference 24 hours can make. At this point last night I was ready to pull my hair out in frustration. By noon today I had unrooted the phone and re-installed the most recent OTA software update and was ready to just stick with that. Now I have re-rooted, somehow managed to get the updated software back on the phone, and have installed and am running an incredibly awesome custom ROM.
I love my new phone. Thanks again to both of you guys who offered help. I think I'm going to be good from here on.
Today a friend of mine wanted to install a .apk file on his Android phone and he did not have a clue on how to do this.
So.. After some hours PHP coding here I created an online tool for him (and other newbies).
Basically the users selects the .apk he wants to install, and points his Android camera to the given QR code.
Please have a look at http://bit.ly/e4mLXu , and let me know what you think.
Some things like About and FAQ are still missing, but will be added later this week.
Thank you.
It's a good concept but the site layout is so unnecessary, you don't need all those unneeded images and links in the website that has nothing to do with its function.

Thank you for your input.. I guess that I did go over the top a bit on the design.... But I was really in my zone when doing the page layout
I'm re-doing it at the moment, and I will try to keep it as KISS as possible.
Once again thank you for your input.
Awesome idea. A friend of mine just got her first Android phone, and is pretty clueless about installing APKs, even though I rooted her phone and walked her through it with Root Explorer. This will make it much simpler for her.
Good idea! Can save some time. It`s already saved in my favorites!
file manager, astro..
this is for first class rookies
Sorry but have I missed something here??
Why on earth would ANYBODY really actually need to use this? (no offence) Has your friend lost the plot?
Why would you go through all this instead of simply installing a file manager liek ASTRO via the market?
a) Copy apk to sd card/phone
b) install ASTRO File Manager from market.
c) Install apk
How difficult is that?
If I have missed something here please explain because I cant think of any scenario where this would be an advantage.

I have not looked at it yet, but this allows you to do it without connecting the phone to the pc right?
Logical order for your instructions
a) Install ASTRO File Manager from market.
b) Copy apk to sd card/phone
c) Install apk
repeat steps b and c for other .apks
It is a great idea, and nicely done. but i will stay with the other method.
i think its great especially when you forget your usb cable, i never leave home with out but i forgot it, surfing thru xda and didnt feel like opening xda app on phone just download upload install, also, when paw server is down i guess, nice work.
Oops... The site is getting a lot of attention at the moment as it made the XDA's frontpage!
I guess that it's time to start putting together a FAQ for the site.

Err how is that any more "logical" then what I said?
It doesn't make a difference which way around you do a&b so one order isnt any more or less logical then the other.
Your logic fails

Ok so if you where not at home and didnt have a USB cable, you could simply email the apk to yourself or use your friends card reader/card slot/dongle etc. There are a million different ways that are much quicker then this. Not trying to dis OP/site etc just suprised that this has been made front page news?
I love how quickly people try to smash an idea just cause it's not their way...what if the user doesn't have a file manager installed? Left their USB cable? Doesn't want to login to a webmail account for security reasons? There are tons of reasons to use this...I say scale it up, and somehow work out longer time periods for the QR codes (Maybe only for registered users?)...besides, it's always nice to have some functional PHP code that could be used in other projects.
I just used this and it is awesome! thank you thank you thank you!
sorry, but its useless. also harder and takes longer time than just copying to sd.
not everybody gets the idea of Astro/File manager.
this is just another way to get to the goal.
sometimes, even if you try to show them a better way of doing things, they still prefer another way which may seem not logical/takes a longer time.
This is a neat idea. it might not appeal to everybody, but it may help somebody.
I don't get this either. I email the apk to my gmail and there's an option in Gmail on your phone for you to install the app.
Hey, i found great use for this. I downloaded a couple of APKs and needed to quickly dl them, and install them. Too lazy to connect to my computer or email it. So much faster.
One cosmetic issue: when I upload an apk the name changes to a crazy long string. Any way to shorten that? I realize you can't keep the original apk name but a simple numbering system (each new upload +1 id kind of a thing) or whatever else might work better. It's not required, but just my input love it!
niceeee!!! this is exactly what i wanted!
Hello...
I'm having a couple issues with my EVO. I'm rooted but haven't flashed ANY custom ROMS. The only thing I done really root-wise is to flash a couple font packs and to backup everything with Titanium Pro.
Anyway, I have been having a problem where all the apps installed on my SD card will NOT launch. They don't even show up in the app drawer!! Occasionally, once every 5-10 reboots of the phone, the apps WILL show up but more often than not (and lately EVERY TIME I reboot) I can only access the apps installed on the internal phone memory.
It has been suggested to me to free up some space on my card and with the internal memory of my phone. I have an 8GB SD card that was down to 250MB of space. That is now been cleared out so that 1.2GB is free.
Now, HERE IS MY PROBLEM going forward...
I've been trying to clear out some apps installed on the phone because I only had about 42MB of memory left and received a warning on the phone that space was getting low. I was able to uninstall a few apps to free up space to 61MB, HOWEVER, I CANNOT SEEM TO UNINSTALL APPS ANYMORE!! No matter what method I try...using an app like "Easy Uninstaller" or going through the Manage Applications option on the phone, it is NOT working.
If I use Easy Uninstaller or the Manage Applications route, I see the progress bar of the supposed uninstall but it just HANGS...never finishes.
In addition, ODDLY, as I look at my phone next to me as I type, all the information in the "Manage Applications" mode is stuck on "computing..." If I click on an app name to bring me to the Force Stop/Uninstall/Clear Data/Move to SD card, etc screen, there is NO information about the app!! The Storage information Total, Application and Data are "stuck" on "Computing..." as is the "Cache" information.
I THOUGHT my problem was with the card or reading the card. All the data is INTACT in the card. I can access anything with a file explorer. I can even view gallery pictures that I have saved in folders I have created ON THE CARD. I just can't get to or launch the apps installed the card and NOW it appears that the information associated with apps installed ON THE PHONE is now banged up.
Has anyone seen this problem with uninstalling apps?? Seeing the "Computing..." information just hang and not go anywhere?? Any thoughts on a fix short of doing a hard reset of the phone and/or Nandroid restore?? I'm not averse to a Nandroid restore, however, I am NOT sure if my underlying problem causing these issues is WITHIN MY BACKUP FILES
THANKS!!
I would do a hard reset regardless. It will return your ROM to a pristine state in less time than it took to write that post and you'll soon find out if it fixed your problems.
If it doesn't i would back up files from SD, format and try again.

I apologize if I wasn't clear in the fact that I knew I could easily and simply do a hard reset to, likely, eliminate my problems. In fact, I wrote:

See??
My GOAL with this post was to try to figure out WHY this was happening. My fear was, if I backed up, reformatted and tried again, that I might simply be transferring the problem BACK to my clean settings. I was HOPING with this post, which took "longer than a hard reset to type," that the information I provided might shed some light on what was causing the problems and that SOMEONE might suggest how to avoid in the future.
Yeah, so I wasn't quite looking for the obvious "start from scratch" answer...

Big, BIG thanks for stating the OBVIOUS. By the way, way BEFORE you even replied, I flashed a recovery that put my system back to where I was before the problem. That option was neither difficult nor what I was seeking in posting my questions.
We learn NOTHING by "doing" what you suggested. We learn NOTHING by hitting "factory reset" on the phone or even doing what I did with flashing a recovery. One WOULD LEARN if told some of the reasons this might have occurred and ways to avoid in the future. Feel free to follow this thread so that you can learn as well.
Actually, you, yourself might need your own "hard reset"...or change your username to "Dirk-Not-So-Gently." I've never quite encountered such attitude with a suggestion so obvious and uninformative.
Ok...moving forward beyond the obvious, brain-dead "factory restore"/flash recovery option that I have already done. I was hoping someone might shed some light on this situation so that I and others might LEARN the reasons this occurred and avoid it in the future??
Thanks...
BTW..."Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result". You can keep your insanity and reset your phone every time without figuring out the the cause. Forgive me though, I'm gonna try and LEARN why this happened...
Have you fixed it yet? Let us know when you've done a hard reset of the phone and/or Nandroid restore.

I added a little emphasis...you must have overlooked or not read thoroughly. Shocker. I'm WAAAAAY beyond the need to reset/restore...did so even before your first reply.
It's OK...honestly...don't mean to waste your time and have you struggle to help me here. Let's just let someone else read this to see if they might have an idea about the CAUSES of the problems. You, yourself are on some sort of endless loop suggesting to reset reset reset restore without giving ANY assistance as to the CAUSE of the problem. It's OK...you can rest...no need to keep replying...nighty, night...
Download an uninstaller from the android market, if not get root explorer(check r/w) and go to /data/app and uninstall the desired app.
It looks like you need to do a master reset using Odin3, I am sure that will fix the problem if nothing else you have done has fixed it......

Interestingly, ALL methods of uninstalling apps were not working..."Uninstaller," "Easy Uninstaller" and the typical Manage Applications options were what I tried. I didn't try to check r/w and also didn't try to uninstall through Titanium Pro but wound up flashing a nand recovery that brought me back a few days to BEFORE when my problem started. So I'm OK now.
What I'm TRYING to do, however, is to figure out WHY this was happening so that it doesn't happen again. Internal memory too low (got down to 9-10%)?? Internal memory corruption?? Cache issues?? Any ideas??

If you were suggesting a un-root and/or getting me back to stock, fortunately, I didn't have to do that!

Just wanted to let anyone else having the problem that I was posting about that I was able to fix my problem!!
Whoever suggested the information above REALLY didn't know what he was talking about. The suggestion was QUITE unnecessary...and pretty OBVIOUS if you think about it?? I'm surprised the suggestion wasn't to go to the store and get a new phone. I'm sure happy I did some more research!!
Well, the problem resides in what was likely some corruptions in the .android_secure directory. I simply uninstalled the apps installed on the card, deleted the contents of the .android_secure directory and restored the apps and data using Titanium Backup! That's it!! Even if a Nandroid restore was done it would not have changed the corruption that would have remained in the directory.
So, hope what I asked, what I tried and what worked helps someone!!
Have you thought about going to the store and buying a new phone? I don't know if there's a way to recover from such a ruthless error.

Based on your suggestion I went ahead and bought TWO new phones...so I can call one phone to see if the other is working.
Wow, with a recommendation like yours, whoever said there weren't any geniuses on here...and funny ones too...were just proven wrong.
I'll let you know how my third phone turns out when I buy it...
