[Q] pol100 froyo performance - Touch Cruise Android Development

Hi, I acquired a used polaris touch cruise 1 and nand flashed to RLS10.
I am wondering what performance this device has with modern apps. I had issues to run youtube videos and flash. I also tried to run sipdroid (sip phone app) and it stucked with sound or completely crashed. Is there a chance in terms of performance do get this apps running?

The YouTube app suffers from a known problem that we hope it would be fixed.*
For VoIP you can use a great application that really works: Nimbuzz. It can make call using Skype accounts and Windows Live Messenger accounts. Be sure to check it out.
And... welcome!! Polaris is still a quite good device.

Yepp, I second that.

I find Froyo a little to much for my old Polaris. It really anoys me the lack of Flash support in the browser. Even with Skyfire I can't get it requires a lot of resources. One thing I must say, I enjoy Android more then Win Mo that's for sure.
The best ROM so far for me is Valilla Eclair. Fast with very good battery life.

I agree with alinescoo, the new Android ROMs (e.g. froyo) are too heavy for Polaris.... Not a bad thing though, but as long as you know the limitations u can be a happy user.
Ive had my Pola100 for almost 2.5 years now, and the reason I moved from WinMo to Android is cause its much much faster, stable and cause Im looking forward to finally buy a new phone. And Android is defintely the OS to go for...
I guess the answer to ur question depends on whether u wanna use ur Polaris as a stable everyday phone or u wanna try everything u can on it...
Cheers

Oh btw, Im using Incubus Super Froyo RLS13 with Liqu1d's 16/07 nbh. Very fast and quite stable...
Hope it helps

Which WM6 Rom is Better for you ? say your Reasons

each person has so many expectations ! say them and write which WM6 Rom is better according your needs and expectations .
I personally use NBD 7.2 Vanilla -> fast, clean and no problems whatsoever!
same here, i want one that is fast, clean, and just put the programs you need, currently happy with NBD 7.2
I just installed the "XDA Mobile 6 (XM6)" rom yesterday and am very happy with it. Theres a good selection of extra apps that hardly take up any memory. I havent tried any other roms but this one is very fast , faster than the qtec wm5 rom i had on it before.
I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario (not Vario II)

Pretty much the same thing here. XM6 is what I'm using and am quite happy with it while I'm doing my research learning how to cook my own.
I'm sitting on Core 2.0n as I am currently out of my home country and have the phone permanently switched off. I am weighing my options for when I return, because I want to reflash to a ROM with Office 2007 (to match the upgrade I just did on my computer). I'm a fan of the Vanilla style ROMs so I can just add the programs I like, so I will probably go with NBD. I'm just sad that my Pocket Sudoku high scores will be reset!
7.3...
Just the right amount of apps , and fast even with HTC home and audio. Bluetooth is greatly improved (not just stereo)
Currently using Pandora V3/V3.1, so far so good
Ti2...believe it or not, Ti2 with all the HTC Touch programs integrated works best with my phone. Fast, no missed calls, and so far no problems...
I'm currently running Pandora 3.2 with Voice Command built in (Yeah, I'm not running my own rom right now... I'm playing the field... ). Very nice rom, as its quick and has newer Arcsoft SMS/MMS... So far its been very stable with no quirks that I've seen, and excellent battery life.
The next release of XM6 will be based on (or very similar to) this rom with some customizations I do...
I am running Ti2.2 right now... but I did play the field as well and tried out TNT and XM6, they just contained too many apps that I wouldn't use, therefore went on building the newer version of my ROM.
NBD 7.2 Base, on a Personal ROM ...
tnt-2.0 makes my g3 on tmo run very quickly and smoothly. after installing all fixes and running the htc_streaming_media cab, orb works perfectly at 160kb (able to run on tmo edge). which is infinitely better than m.youtube since i have access to basically everything on youtube without it telling me that youtube's working on it. if i am able to use wifi, why wouldn't i want to use orb over m.youtube? i guess i do sometimes forget to turn orb on before i leave the house...
i'm thinking of switching to sprint for the "mogul". unless i get an iphone...god that would suck. what are you going to do? i like the speed of sprint but the iphone is sexy. both would be two year commitments, though one would be considerably dearer.
also, i don't know if tnt-2.0 just changed the refresh rate of the button holds but i can scan through menus with the 4-way toggle switch SOOOO fast compared to all of the other roms. try opening up your start menu and just press and hold toggle up or down and the selection thing just flies!

i found it via google and then modaco. what's funny is that the person who posted it said it was found on this site. i didn't spend a lot of time looking for it on this site, just went to google. works great though. i do use pie for orb and it opens wmplayer and it's great. like carrying around a 600gb video ipod with a lot of the videos the internet has to offer.
when i visit people in va, i roam on suncom/att edge and it works great there too. wifi is perfect.

To answer the question...I've tried:
NDB 7.3
Crossbow Reloaded 1.7 (XMA?)
Titanium
and Core2n
I found Crossbow Reloaded to be the best for me. It comes with good apps, looks great, and seems to be without bugs. With the help of people on here, the few problems I did encounter were solved (mostly configuration problems caused by my noobish status) and the remaining problem I think I can live with (excessive battery drain...now I have to charge every day instead of every 2 days)
The other roms had their good and bad points, but in the end they just didn't fit my needs. Doesn't mean they are "bad" - they are just not for me...currently.
i looked at that link again and it says it's for smartphones, but it works for m.youtube on my wizard (among other sites).
I'm using crossbow reloaded 1.7.1. Reason: it's very stable, everything working, bluetooth and wifi work great.

Should I stay or should I go? (6.1 to 6.5)

I have a Sprint TP2 running Winmobile 6.1 and I am considering applying the upgrade to 6.5. I am a fairly new Winmobile user having spent a few years with Palm OS devices having left Winmobile for that. I find Winmobile to be much improved this time around. My TP2 is now running very smoothly since I disabled Push Internet (cab found here...Thank you very much!) Before that I had many freezes and had to hard reset about once a week and apply my backup. (Resco Backup) I also have applied a few other very useful registry hacks that I found here as well that have added to the functionality of my TP2.
I have many 3rd party apps that I love. To name a few of my favorites;
Tom Codon's WiFi Router-So awesome!!!!!!
SK Tools-Indespensible to me for keeping my TP2 running smoothly
Elecont Weather for the Today screen
Elecont Launcher for the Today screen
pmClean
Skype
Skyfire
Qik
I don't use TF3D as I prefer to have the info that I wish to see at a glance on my screen so I use the traditional Today screen and with Elecont Launcher I am able to launch the apps that I use most frequently right from my Today screen. Plus, it's a bit of a memory hog and I prefer my phone to be snappy. I suffer from memory OCD-always looking to see how much memory I am using! Currently I run around 34%-40%.
My questions are;
1) If I upgrade to 6.5 will I still be able to have the traditional Today screen like I have with 6.1?
2) Will I gain an appreciable amount of other benefits to make it worth the work of installing the new rom, reinstalling all of my apps, and setting up all of the other settings the way I like them? (and if so, what are they?)
3) Are there any apps that I listed that you know won't function on 6.5?
Lastly, I just really wish to thank you all for your work! I really love this forum!
Thanks in advance for your input!

I would love to know too. I use SPB Mobile Shell 3.5, so the upgrade to Sense 2.5 if of no use to me.
Will 6.5 offer any stability or speed improvements?
Thanks!
Do it!
Just make the "tweaks" you need.
I think one of the only benefits you will gain in 6.5 is some of the features are more touch friendly. Everything you mentioned should work fine in the upgrade also. If you want to improve the touch friendliness you could also install some themes which skin winmo (so you don't have to hard reset, re-install, etc).
If you do decide to go w/ 6.5, customization won't be too difficult if you use programs like resco and XDA UC Customize. IN my experience, the stock 6.1 ROM is about the most stable available once all tweaks are applied.
I upgraded from Verizon 6.1 to Verizon 6.5.
I have regreted it and when I'm in the mood for a hard reset, I will go likely back to 6.1.
I've had a lot of incompatabilities. I prefer using the Today screen, but a number of my prefered apps fail or cause lockup issues that I never had before. So generally, I am stuck with using the Sensui 2.1 interface, which is very limiting IMHO.
Can't say if the Sprint version is as poor.

in my experience the vzw 6.5 is no good. Try one of the custom 6.5 you will probably have a much better experience.
Wow! Thanks for all of the input!
Well...with much fear and trepidation, I went. I found that I could still use the traditional Today screen and all of the apps that I was using on 6.1. Heck, I was even able to use Elecont Launcher even though it isn't supported for 6.5. Funny thing on the way to all of that though...after playing with the HTC Sense UI I found that I can customize it more than I could TF3D and I'm pretty happy with it over using the traditional Today screen. I will use it until I get bored, then I'll try a custom rom. (Hehe...3 mos?) I need to learn more about those before I take that leap though!
Thank you all so much for weighing in!

Welcome to WinMo 6.5 and Sense. Here are some nice links:
Mods for Sense UI **make sure you download the correct version of Sense Mods, check your version in device info**
Themes and Apps sorted by most viewed (popular)
Also, you might wanna check out SPB Mobile Shell, its a great software that allows you to customize up to 5 screens with widgets, programs and system settings icon. SPB Mobile Shell
Very nice! I can't wait until I can check the Sense mods out! Thank you! I tried SBP Mobile Shell when I had 6.1 and didn't love it. It's a nice program...it just didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll have another look at it though now that I have a little more experience with Winmobile and have switched to 6.5.
For the record...I am not finding a good enough reason to have not made the switch to 6.5 from 6.1 on the Sprint TP2. Still a little buggy here and there but who's to say I didn't do that to myself with some free app that I installed. Hey, that's why I have a backup, right? In fact, I think that if you have any Winmobile and don't have a backup program with a new back up every few days, you might be being foolish. Ultimately, you should make notes attached to each backup to remind yourself at what point your were at in terms of apps and tweaks. Unless of course you are one of these developers and are really smart and can easily get yourself out of a jam without spending hours and hours online searching for solutions and reloading and resetting up you phone...ugh! Anyway...Sprint's 6.5 is prettier and not really worse than 6.1 IMHO. I'd do it again.
A couple of things thing that I am curious about though...After installing 6.5, all of my programs, and getting the settings dialed in, I ran a back up with Resco Backup's latest version. I got dialogue box stating that I had 22 errors (all looked like registry entries) all relating to Twitter. When I performed an "Integrity Check" of the backup, it stated that there are no errors. They don't show up in "Invalid Registry Entries" in SK Tools either. Now I don't care if Titter works or not. I don't use it. It's just strange.
Also, I installed the NoPushInternet and SSK TP2 Dynamic Resource Proxy cabs expecting a performance change like I saw with NoPushInternet alone with 6.1. After installing NoPush with 6.1 I was at 32% with TF3D disabled following a reset. After some heavy use I would see it bloat to around 48%. The numbers were roughly 10% more respectively with TF3D enabled. With 6.5 I am at 41% coming of a reset with Sense disabled and 50% with it enabled. However, I noticed this morning it bloated up to 86%! I can't remember what I went to do and got a dialogue box stating that I didn't have enough memory to perform the task so I looked to see how much Ram I was using. I wonder if some possible culprits are;
The 5 different cities that I get weather data for all needing to sync @ 15 min intervals?
Location services all together?
Being signed in to Facebook by default?
Animated wallpaper?
All of the above?
I find that simply sliding along the icons and pausing at each in Sense makes the memory usage spike to 58% and settle back at 54%. Navigating to and from Settings, going back an forth to email, taking a few calls, and I am up in the mid 60%'s. Maybe this is to be expected and these numbers are considered good...or maybe I just need a more efficient rom. I guess that in keeping with Microsoft's long standing tradition (pre-Win7), the newer OS is heftier than the last! I just hope this thing can keep up with me! Maybe just some Sense mods will do the trick. If I were to install a new rom, can anyone suggest a high quality one that is a good fit for a Sprint user? I don't want to risk loosing any of my Sprint stuff. Sprint TV, Sprint acct info, etc. I am not sure how all of this works with cooked roms and specific carriers. Sorry to be such a noob. I have also considered overclocking the processor. Not sure how risky that is but I do have Sprint's damage replacement coverage. I haven't found instructions for that yet specific to the Sprint TP2 but I do want to play around with that and see what happens. I realize I have asked a lot of questions here. If anyone can take a stab at all or part I will appreciate it. I notice that some (or all?) developers will take a donation (or tip) for help. I am willing to do so in exchange for good help in getting my Sprint TP2 smokin' fast, (more) app filled, and reliable. I may be suffering from a sickness...I can't seem to leave well enough alone! The amount of donation being relative to the amount of help, of course. I did just make my 20 Euro donation to the main effort. I am glad that I did...I certainly have benefited from visiting this forum more than any other forum.
Also, if I am supposed to post a new thread (or threads!) since I have veered off track here, please let me know. I will cut/paste it in a new one(s). I want to behave myself accordingly.

I did the 6.5 update to my Sprint Touch Pro 2 and installed the Tom Codon's WiFi Router and it works perfect. I can't speak to the other aps you are using.
Yea I don't like the stock SPB Mobile, I use espresso mod. You can find most of theSPB Mods here.
I noticed a similar "buggy" experience when switching over to vzw's 6.5 ROM. It worked, but it never seemed as smooth as 6.1. Sprint Auto-Clean/Tweak is a CAB that does just about every tweak to improve performance. Maybe this will help with your RAM %s, but they seem very similar to what I experience (Sense UI ~ 50% idle, 60% after a day of usage, specs below in sig). I'm not really sure what is causing your memory spike, maybe try some of these tweaks and see if it still happens.
Backups are important, but more important is making sure you downloaded something that is compatible with your hardware/software and that you read the thread/readme before installing it. If you do those there should be no need for a backup.
As for a custom ROM, I am not aware of any that include those sprint apps. Check out http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98 for some custom ROMs.
About the overclocking, I believe our processor is an overclocked tp processor, so i'm not sure how much more we can get out of it.
Personally i'd say you are capable enough of doing this all yourself, so be confident and take the necessary steps of reading beforehand.
Thank you burtonsnow8. I appreciate your answers and your confidence in me. I'll continue to mine the forums!

Most stable rom

Hey guys
Ok so im up for upgrading my p4350's rom but id like to use the phone on a day to day basis. Can anyone please tell me what the most stable rom currently is. Another thing, i dont want useless apps ill rarely use.
Been looking at roms by gullum and aserg and they look good but i want to know from people who have tested alot of roms in the past. As this is my first (and hopefully) only time i will be flashing i want to make sure i get it right
Thnx
RuDz
Flashing by SD Card or are you plan on using the RomUpdateUtility?
Also, please make sure you are HardSPL'd..
I tried many roms, but none of them can shut them down.
Who can tell me how to shut it down. not sleep
An one thing is how to turn vibration of when I touch OK or win button on the screen.

Hi thanx for the swift reply
Im planning on flashing via the USB cable. I am going to hardSPL as soon as i now for sure there is a stable rom out there that i can use.
Ive downloaded thanhy25's Clear Rom Win 6.5.1 Build 23071 - V2 and im thinking of installing soon. Good idea? bad idea?
another problem is that my ipl is only 1.02.xxx but as far as i know i can upgrade it to 4.xxx yang or something the like.
Any suggestions?
I'm looking for the exact same thing. The lack of space has been driving me crazy, I'm constantly at around 1MB and the only thing that's installed are some Spb applications. I'm looking for something very stable because I don't want to flash it all the time (I hope I'll have to do it just this once - I want to minimize the risk of destroying it, I don't have the money for a new one ). It currently has Windows 6.0, SE CE 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3) and I can't remember the last time I had to soft reset it or had any trouble with it, besides the low memory. I'd like to find a stable ROM with enough free memory, but not completely without programs.
The things I mostly use are phone and messages of course, email, office, alarms and timers, camera, IE, WiFi and Bluetooth, weather forecast, ActiveSync, WM5torage, pdf reader, Total commander, Google maps, MSN Messenger... I'd also like to find something like Spb stuff to make it more practical to use, and to be able to play audio and video files, some other browser besides IE would be nice, gmail client, IM client that would work with both MSN and gTalk (I used Talkonaut at one time), to install games without problems (to have .NET framework, Java, Flash and such)... Some nice skin would be nice, but all in all I'd rather have stability than good looks. Is there a ROM that would be similar to this? What version of Windows would you recommend, 6.1, 6.5?
How complicated would it be for me to cook my own ROM? Is it worth learning the process just to make this one custom ROM? Also, is there an emulator which I can use to try out different ROMs before flashing them to my device?
Sorry for the huge post

Try JustStablev2b5micro. It gives you almoust 30MB free Ram. I use it with SPBMS 3.5.3 and I have around 22-24 MB free memory. But you must be HSPL I think.
HardSPL isnt an issue. I prefer it inface because i wannt to permanently flash the phone with a new rom.
Uhm what is SPBMS 3.5.3?? Sorry im a noob when it comes to this
Any idea where i could find this JustStablev2b5micro
Thanx alot
So far my fav is the TribU2U Version 3 w/Titanium [Build 28232] - Although I turn off the titanium interface and run the basic homescreen with my fav apps.
Having the new WM 6.5 interface is much better then old 6.0 look and feel.
I think that with any ROM you have (custom or official) you need to softreset about once every couple weeks... just to keep it running smooth.

Hey, izzy, try my newest ROMs out. I think you'll like them. And don't worry, if you don't like them I have that other ROM on file still.
Link to this rom?? =D

[Q] Best ROM for Sprint TP2?

I am looking for the best ROM for the touch pro 2 on sprint, running 6.5 windows mobile. I want it to be fast and not hang up all the time which my phone currently does. Which one do you guys recommend for me. I use my phone all day for web and facebook and sms constantly. Any help would be appreciated.
Asking for the best ROM is like asking a group of strangers who the best actor or actress is. It's all based on opinions. It's not hard to flash ROMs. Just flash a few of them and see what you like.
In my experience, 80% of all lagging and freezing on this phone is caused by Sense. When I switched from Sense to Titanium the speed and stability improved beyond my wildest expectations. I also feel that most people don't give Titanium a fair chance, it's a very well designed interface once you become familiar with it.
Merely switching from Sense to Titanium did wonders to me even on the stock Sprint ROM. Last night I flashed Medium Hill's Titanium ROM and it's even better.

Anyone here could have told you that much. Sense uses anywhere from 40-80+ MB of RAM depending mostly on the tabs you use. Most of our problems with RAM come into play on how to save it without loosing the functionality of Sense. The easiest way is to replace the start menu. The default start menu alone eats up about 20MB or so. The lockscreen takes another 5-10MB. This isn't freed up even after unlocking. There are tons of modifications to try before having to give up Sense. I've tried Titanium, and I like it, but not enough to give up Sense for. There is simply too much to customize and make my own in Sense. It acts almost like its own operating system instead of a skin.
SilenceRom on Sprint is quick and amazing!

Maybe you should actually give 6.1 with the Rhodium Manila (Touchflo3d) a chance. It gives you the essentials of Sense without sucking all of your RAM up. You'll sacrifice Weather on your home screen but so what. If you set it up right you won't have any problems with speed.

Don't you also give up quicklinks ? I disable weather on Sense but quicklinks is something I use all the time.
Anyway, after much fiddling around and many reflashes I settled on VINdows Neodium 2.10 ROM. The Sense on this rom is very fast, fastest of all I've seen. Also, to my surprise, MMAppLauncher that was causing all sorts of problems on Sprint Stock ROM with and without Sense, works just fine. With MMAL replacing default Start Menu, with Voice Command turned off (never use it), and with several Sense tabs that I don't use turned off, I boot to about 103 MB of RAM. That's with Throttle Lock loaded. It goes down to about 75-85 with use, which is still plenty. If Sense proves stable on this ROM (no sudden SR's or Sense restarts), I may actually get used to running Sense again; if not there's always Titanium.
MR.X ROM! its super fast but you cant send picture mails
For me the best ROM means
1) Barebone OS or minimal add-ons
2) Best stability and battery life
3) Most ROM left
I see people use NRG a lot, but it's got too much fluff for me
well for facebook ive found the best way to get on it on opera mobile 10. all the fb apps for winmo suck. and mess around with either regular fb.com or iphone.fb.com ive heard it makes it faster, but i dont see it.
I like the sharkierom!

Android on NAND vs WM6,1

Hallo together,
The last 3 days i thinking to flash my Orbit 2 with the Android Froyo, but this process is complicated and take much time. I thought more people have flashed the Android on Touch Cruise already and can answer me a couple questions.
1. Is the android on NAND faster than WM 6.1?
2. Have the Android a GPU driver for TC or Orbit 2?
3. How much free space i would be having?
4. Is it possible to move the apps to SD or make a virtual partition on SD like an internal memory?
5. The battery drain?
6. Can i use iGo 8?
7. Have someone tested the Golaunchenr on TC or Orbit 2?
That’s all. It would be nice if someone explain me this simple things!
With best regards
Pendelv
I can't believe, that nobody have answer on my questions.
Can someone who flashed the Android on NAND answer only this 3 questions, all anothe i finded in the board.
1. Is the android on NAND faster than WM 6.1?
2. Have the Android a GPU driver for TC or Orbit 2?
3. How much free space i would be having after flashing the Android on NAND with Data on SD?
i have install nand before and now flash back wm6.5
maybe i can answer some of the question
1. the speed is acceptable if not open heavy load apps
2. the quacomm brenchmark have about 26 fps
3. space since i mount all things to sd, so i am not very clear
run android on TC is funny, but i don't think it can serve as daily use
easy to hang and after hang, sometimes the kernel will corrupt and cannot restart the phone,
also, when the battery use up, the phone cannot charge ( restart and restart and even use more power )
the battery meter is not accurate also..
hope i can answer your question
Thanks a lot
now it is simple to make a right desision to stay by wm 6.1.
I use iGo 8 on my Orbit 2 like Navigation in the Car, but i have read that the people have run the igo8 under Android. I ask me how? I think for me its better to stay with wm 6.1 and SPB shell. Works fine now. Actualy Android with marketplace and so many Apps sounds great, but if it dont work corectly....?
With best regards!

1st of all I disagree a little with hcchcc. To flash Android on Nand is actually very simple and it runs pretty good.
Also to answer your questions:
It is faster than WM6.1
You won't play games with this old crap, but UI is very smooth
Around ~90Mb, but it depends of ROM
It is native Froyo feature to move apps to SD card so not all apps are movable
Battery drain is equal as on WM6.1. It can hold about 2-3 days, but again it depends of ROM, kernel and radio
Don't know about iGo, but Google maps and navigation works fine
Go launcher works fine, but I would recommend Launcher Pro
While my new Lumia 800 is at reparation I took off some dust from my old Polaris.
Android development have been stopped very long time ago for this device so you take what you have. I tried l1q1d's RLS16 with 2.6.32.9 kernel, but I find it too unstable and too many small annoying bugs.
I'm currently using RLS18 with 2.6.25 kernel and it works surprisingly good. I spend about 2 weeks optimizing and tweaking it and now I'm very happy with result. It is my daily ROM atm.
Overall android works fine on Polaris. The only huge problem is low RAM (only 105Mb). This also means there will be no multitasking. So unless you don't load any heavy apps like Gmaps or browsing heavy web pages everything works just fine. Because of this drawback if you are using Gmaps and receiving a call in the same time phone may crash or in best case it will hang an incoming call or if you are lucky it will path through.
If you wish I can share my ROM.
