Figured out how to send MMS over EDGE - Captivate General

Alright. After messing with the settings and tryna figure this out, I think I came to a conclusion. When I set the camera setting on the phone to 3.2MP and the Picture quality to Normal, I was able to send an MMS Picture message over the EDGE network. I started trying to figure this out when I download FXCamera and noticed that it would send an MMS over EDGE. So I went into the settings on that program. I noticed the smaller picture with less quality sent, and the better quality picture didnt send. And I waited, and waited, and waited and still nothing.
So I put on the Default Camera App. I had it set to Super Fine and 5MP. I could never send an MMS picture that way. Switched the settings....3.2MP and Picture quality to Fine, and Bam. The picture sent. Give it a shot, tell me how it works out for you.
Nick
PS: Also, the picture would send over 3G in any setting but not EDGE. Use this way to send your MMS pictures messages all the time. Poor Edge lol Also, I only figured this out for a picture you take with the camera of your phone.

I think there is a cap (intentional or not) around 100kb on the MMS size. If you crop a normal image as well, and it ends up below that 100KB it seems to send fine.

This is true. But I spoke with AT&T and they said 300kb is the limit. And thats probably the limit for 3G. Edge probably is under 100kb.

I would guess so. Sending a 300KB MMS over edge would take forever.

Bump for the people that havent had this work before. Give this a try.

At least on my bberry though it would tell me if the image was too big and offer an option to resize it so I could send it. :-\ C'est la vie.

AT&T's network currently supports MMS up to 600KB, however, device limitations may restrict MMS message size to something lower than that.

changed my stock camera settings to 3.2 mp on "normal" and it sent on edge. then re-read your post and set it to 3.2 mp "fine" and it sent. tried 3.2 mp "super fine" and it sent but took like 5 min to send. im sitting here with full bars on edge network. when i have 3g i can send 5 mp "super fine" no problem. your solution worked for me! thank you so much! that was so frustrating.

Ok I read this thread a few days ago....I didn't realize it was a problem with the phone I thought it was some problem with the network, my sim card, or being rooted to a different firmware...but I can't send pics and I really only get edge here where I live. I tried doing what you've said...I even took the picture all the way down to 1.5 mp and they still won't send....but I know it isn't the sim card because I tried sending pics from another phone I own and they send just fine on it...

Take the pic and save it. Then go to it and crop it and resave. Drops the KB on the pic big time and sends fine on edge. Even 5mp superfine; )
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897

I am able to send any type of pics to other cell phones but when i try to send it to my yahoo or work email it comes with no attachments. Anybody else experiencing this cant remember if i was able to do it before. thanks.

[Q] buggy Focus... anyone else?

Hi all, my Focus was doing some weird things, including sporadic reception issues, so I went to an ATT warranty center and got it replaced. Unfortunately, this phone has the same issues AND more.
First of all, about half the time, if I go somewhere with NO reception, and then enter an area with reception, it won't find reception without turning the phone off and on, even if I toggle the data network in the settings. This is especially annoying because my office has no reception in the cafeteria/main entrance, yet my cubicle does. My old phone did not do this.
Second, on my first Focus, I picked a SMS sound on day one, after a few months, I changed it to something else. about 15% of the time, it would play the original sound, then immediately play the second one... Well this phone is doing the SAME thing, but I've only used one SMS tone. I find this especially puzzling.
Third, this phone occasionally won't flip from horizontal to vertical and vice versa. It seems like whatever mechanism tells the phone the way it's oriented is broken.
Fourth, yesterday, my phone went from a 100% charge to 0% and a warning that it was critically low. I took the battery out multiple times, and when it was plugged it, it would show that it was charging, but then not gain anywhere on the status meter. After pulling the battery for like the 10th time, it came up as 100%.
Has anyone else experienced any bugs like this?
This will be the 4th time I've gone into the ATT warranty center... I am the type who is always rational and polite, but this is getting annoying. I hope ATT gives me a credit or something. I wish I could get a NEW phone and not a warranty replacement refurb that is clearly not working like it should.
I've never experienced anything like what you're talking about. As far as orientation not switching, it does happen if say I take a picture in landscape mode, then MMS the picture to someone and turn the phone upright as I enter the message.

I get that too, but I'm talking about IE and other instances. Guess I should have mentioned that.
Thanks for weighing in!
never also with my focus....what u do to urs jw lol
I have the same reception problem. Everytime I go into my gym I lose AT&T and have to reboot. It started happening the minute I did the March Update.
For everything it fixed it broke something else for me.
I think your issues are hardware flaws, rather than software bugs...just change to another device.I think they should allow you to do so as long as the value of the plan is equal.

Hi, I don't have a focus but have noticed this on my HTC Mozart so am wondering if it could be a software bug?
My phone seems to either pick a SMS tone at random, play 2, one after the other, or not play one at all depending how its feeling that day and depending if I'm using the phone when a message comes in lol!

I've noticed that with mine (HTC Arrive) it plays the 10th ringtone by default whenever the phone is facing up or flipped over. But when it's flipped over and the first ringtone plays then you flip it over, the screen lights up and then the second ringtone plays (I think its ringtone 5). Weird...
Well, the warranty center swapped out my Focus. I told them it had "a reception issue," but did not explain what it was, and then told about how the phone screen was not rotating depending on how it was oriented. Guy went into the back, presumably to check out the issue, and he came back saying that he confirmed it was not rotating properly, so he gave me a new one. He didn't even care to hear about the other issues. I've been into the warranty store multiple times in the last two weeks, and every time they've said that the Focus is not typically a phone that comes in with issues... so we'll see what happens.
Of note, the guy who gave me a new phone did not set it up properly, so data was not working. I had to call customer service to get my IMEI number updated. I politely explained how much of a hassle this has been and was given a $25 credit on my account.
I'm back at my cubicle at work, so I've gone through the basement with no reception, and it was able to find the network on its own when I got out of the dead zone... hopefully that means this phone is working properly.
However, I am moving to a new house in mid June, and I am 99% sure the house is in a dead spot... urg. If it's as bad as I figure it will be, I guess I'll see if AT&T will give me a free microcell AND free service for it; otherwise, I'll have to switch to Verizon.
Thanks for weighing in everyone. It seems like there is some sort of ringer issue because others are reporting it too.
I have the reception issue too, have to reboot the phone to fix it however, I haven't experienced any of your other issues (samsung focus here)
Maybe they are giving you your old phone (refurbished) and u just keep getting the same phone over and over again. (doubt it, but you never know)

Camera Burst Mode is missing pics

I've noticed that the camera's burst mode doesn't save all the pictures. I'll use burst mode for a couple seconds, and count maybe 14-15 shutter-clicks, but then when I review the photos afterwards there's only 4 or 5 pics there. Anyone else get this?
I noticed that it makes the camera shutter sound a few more times than it actually takes pictures. Turn sound off and you won't hear it.

You misunderstood. I don't care that it makes a shutter sound. The phone is advertised as being able to take ~5pics per second, which is in line with the shutter sound. However, only 1 photo per second (roughly) are showing up when I'm done. I'd like the burst mode to work as advertised. If anyone else has any feedback on the shutter-to-photo ratio, I'd appreciate hearing it, so I know if it's just my phone, or everyone's.
I just did it, held it down for a few seconds and got 12 pictures, definitely not only 4-5 pictures.

Would you say you heard the shutter sound around 12 times? That is, does the shutter sound match the number of photos taken?
I'll try clearing my Camera data/cache and see if it helps.
EDIT: Nope. I wonder if it's a hardware thing. Too bad I'm already in "tampered" mode.

They don't check for that. I'd swap it after calling tech support and getting a confirmation number. Factor reset would be worth a shot at this point as well.

Yeah, good call on those things.
However, I was just outside for a smoke break and the rate seemed much closer to what it should be, so I'm thinking maybe the lighting conditions affected it. I'll continue doing some testing, and if I still find it unsatisfactory, I'll contact HTC support.

It sounds like it clicks more times than there are photos, but not by much. It clicks so fast to count haha
I just did burst mode and I tried to count as fast as I could... but I got 20 pictures. I was able to count 15 clicks but I think I missed a few, so this sounds like my phone is accurate.
Is your battery below 50% when you do this? Remember, the crazy htc power features disable a core and downclock the other to 1GHZ when battery is low (I don't believe we know what the threshold % is yet). Try it on a full charge. It could just be cpu unable to keep up when in this mode.
Less light= slower shutter speed. I think the shutter sound is probably set and has no correlation to the pictures.Which would explain why Red got more pictures than clicks and you had the opposite reaction.
I always turn sound off, so I never took notice.

Yup yup, noticed this a few days ago and just tested in the same room with different lighting conditions.
Dim lights 8-9 shutter sounds produced 4 pictures, with all of the lights on 8-9 shutter sounds produced 8 pictures.

Yes, this is exactly what I've found. I took some pics outside during the day on the weekend and the number of photos was pretty much what I expected. Took more photos outside after the sun went down and the number was significantly decreased.
I can live with this. Maybe I'll try playing around with the exposure/ISO settings to see if I can increase the rate in low light.

The burst mode shutter sound is a default sound and doesn't necessarily match up with the amount of pics taken. Bear in mind also that the amount of pics taken in burst mode (for example 5 seconds) varies depending on the lighting.
Less light= slower shutter speed = less pics
More light = faster shutter speed = more pics.

MMS Problems

Hello,
I am brand new to the forum and a 5 year iPhone user who recently switched the HOX.
First of all...I love the phone, but I'm having some real issues with messaging.
My wife and I both have the HOX...using the stock messaging app, it seems that mms messages (that are below 600mb) are taking a long, long time to be delivered or are not being delivered at all.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? Any help would be appreciated.
Yes, I'm having MMS issues from time to time as well.
Sometimes a picture will send, sometimes it wont.
As for MMS video, you have to take the video from within the message app, it wont work if you take a video from the camera app and try and send it like you can on the iPhone.
I'm from the iPhone as well and these little bugs are annoying but spend a week or so on this phone and try and go back to the little screen on the iPhone, I did and didn't like it

Oh, I agree 100% with you...the iPhone looks like a toy to me now. I've been using the HOX for almost two weeks now and for the most part it's been a good transition, but some of the little things are starting to annoy me...like this mms thing...I don't even use mms that much, but if it's a feature, it should work.

Galaxy S6 Camera Randomly Makes Loud Buzzing Sounds?

Hi all,
I wasn't able to find any threads related to this in the S6 forums but I wanted to see if anyone else has this. When I open my camera app, sometimes the camera takes 1-2 seconds to initially focus and during that time it makes a loud buzzing sound. It sounds like a focus motor or something in the camera and the camera output on screen flutters while it focuses. Once it focuses, everything is normal and it doesn't make any more noise to refocus. This also doesn't happen every time I open the camera app, seems mostly random. Has anyone else experienced this? I am already on my 2nd S6 since the first was defective for different reasons and I'm starting to get very disappointed with Samsung quality control.
I have the dame problem.
I don't know if this is normal.
I don't think so

going to bumps this too because after having the phone for a month this problem has just started to show its face.
I've first noticed a small buzzing just after a boot for 3/4 times and than I had a long one opening the camera. After that it's gone...
I have it also! Started a couple of days ago. I have dropped my phone a couple of times. What about you?
Had this happen for the first time today also. Had hdr off, switched back on and it went away. Coincidence? Phone never dropped.

Try to clean up your camera lens.
Did your device take some damage in the past?
Did you take it underwater? (The S6 isn't waterproof anymore...)

Same problem here since last week.[emoji26]
I tried hard reset and another camera app (Google photo), nothing work.
I think it's a hardware problem, it occurs after shaking the phone and launching the camera.
I feel that the OIS makes more noise when app is off.

This started happening with my S6 today. I think it's the OIS that poops out. I can make this happen with a light tap with my finger on the backside of the phone with the camera open and using the rear camera. And this happens with all camera apps: Samsung's bundled camera, Snap Camera and Camera FV-5.
Update: ..and just as sudden this started happening, it went away again. I hope it's a bug - with a fix in 5.1.1.
Update 2: No, it didn't go away. It comes and goes. I may need to take the phone to the service centre.
Mine has gotten worse. Almost every time I open the camera now, I have the buzzing.
Just checking in to say that mine started doing this, too, about four weeks after getting it. It does it randomly when I open Snapchat, too.
I am having this problem too on the Sprint version sometimes it is pretty loud. I'm planning on taking to service center I think.
I also get the waves before it focuses. I read on another forum that someone said they went to a Samsung service center and Samsung replaced their OIS sensor so I'm guessing this may not be something that is simply part of the design.
*Update #1*
I just got off the phone with Samsung customer service. The representative actually heard the buzzing from my phone over the phone while I was talking to her. Since the phone is still under factory warranty they are emailing me a shipping label to send the phone back for repair.
I also have Asurion insurance through Sprint but do not want a refurb for a phone that is less than a month old with no damage caused by me.
Unfortunately the turn around time from Samsung is about a 5 business days and that was after they told me 9-11 days in which I said I couldn't be without a phone that long.
So, I plan on going to Sprint to see if they will swap out my phone for a brand new one. I think if it is a manufacturer defect they will replace the phone without going through insurance for a refurb but I am not positive. It they won't swap it out for a new one I will go through Samsung.

I went to Sprint today and the technician concluded that he was ordering me another phone so definitely seems hardware related.

Received yesterday, excited but...

Received the New Edge Friday and I am happy to say the Edge is working as it should!
-No screen flares
-Setup worked flawlessly
-Wifi Calling works!
Basically the phone works as it should. I am extremely happy with this phone. It is what I was hoping the Edge would be. If new issues arise, I will post here. Thank to XDA for holding my hand during this fiasco, haha.
... a few perplexing things on Moto's part.
-Buggy out of box -
OS must have froze/shutdown several times trying to do normal setup
-Case provided falls off phone-
Case way to large to fit on phone. Basically useless. Falls off if you go to grab phone by case. More dangerous than not having one at all
-Finger zoom-
For some reason I cannot zoom on normal pictures, text, ect. Very odd. I have an LG, several Motos and a XIOAMI phones next to me where I am able to zoom in apps, web pages where the Edge I cannot. I don't understand this at all
-NO OPTION ANYWHERE FOR WIFI CALLING- This may be the dealbreaker. I have LOTS of android phones including about five Motos (going back to G4) and they all at least have the option for Wifi calling (depends on carrier if it actually works) but the Edge does NOT even have it as an option. WHY MOTO, WHY???
If anyone is having these issues and it's human error - PLEASE LET ME KNOW, lol.

Oh
Their Wi-Fi Calling is restrictive. You have to call the carrier to provision.
T-Mobile is pretty liberal. All you need is just put SIM in and it's done
I boxed it up and sent it back today. The back cameras are mediocre but the selfie camera was pretty terrible. For some reason when using the selfie camera my entire skin tone would randomly appear an orangy/yellow color. It was crazy. It happened pretty often. I watched a few youtube reviews of the Edge and one of them noted the exact same phenomena. Based on Motorola's reputation for updates, I decided to send it back. I have a $250 Xiaomi Note 9S that takes way better pictures than this thing.
In addition, I used it on T-Mobile and wifi calling worked out of the box.
