Camera Burst Mode is missing pics - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've noticed that the camera's burst mode doesn't save all the pictures. I'll use burst mode for a couple seconds, and count maybe 14-15 shutter-clicks, but then when I review the photos afterwards there's only 4 or 5 pics there. Anyone else get this?

I noticed that it makes the camera shutter sound a few more times than it actually takes pictures. Turn sound off and you won't hear it.

You misunderstood. I don't care that it makes a shutter sound. The phone is advertised as being able to take ~5pics per second, which is in line with the shutter sound. However, only 1 photo per second (roughly) are showing up when I'm done. I'd like the burst mode to work as advertised. If anyone else has any feedback on the shutter-to-photo ratio, I'd appreciate hearing it, so I know if it's just my phone, or everyone's.

I just did it, held it down for a few seconds and got 12 pictures, definitely not only 4-5 pictures.

Would you say you heard the shutter sound around 12 times? That is, does the shutter sound match the number of photos taken?
I'll try clearing my Camera data/cache and see if it helps.
EDIT: Nope. I wonder if it's a hardware thing. Too bad I'm already in "tampered" mode.

They don't check for that. I'd swap it after calling tech support and getting a confirmation number. Factor reset would be worth a shot at this point as well.

Yeah, good call on those things.
However, I was just outside for a smoke break and the rate seemed much closer to what it should be, so I'm thinking maybe the lighting conditions affected it. I'll continue doing some testing, and if I still find it unsatisfactory, I'll contact HTC support.

It sounds like it clicks more times than there are photos, but not by much. It clicks so fast to count haha

I just did burst mode and I tried to count as fast as I could... but I got 20 pictures. I was able to count 15 clicks but I think I missed a few, so this sounds like my phone is accurate.

Is your battery below 50% when you do this? Remember, the crazy htc power features disable a core and downclock the other to 1GHZ when battery is low (I don't believe we know what the threshold % is yet). Try it on a full charge. It could just be cpu unable to keep up when in this mode.

Less light= slower shutter speed. I think the shutter sound is probably set and has no correlation to the pictures.Which would explain why Red got more pictures than clicks and you had the opposite reaction.
I always turn sound off, so I never took notice.

Same here, I've got mixed results depending on lighting. In the day it's pretty much spot on.

i tried it last night and it clicked like 12-15 times and i got 2 pictures. i wasn't in the best of lighting though... i've also gotten like 5 clicks and 5 pictures... so i don't know...

Yup yup, noticed this a few days ago and just tested in the same room with different lighting conditions.
Dim lights 8-9 shutter sounds produced 4 pictures, with all of the lights on 8-9 shutter sounds produced 8 pictures.

Yes, this is exactly what I've found. I took some pics outside during the day on the weekend and the number of photos was pretty much what I expected. Took more photos outside after the sun went down and the number was significantly decreased.
I can live with this. Maybe I'll try playing around with the exposure/ISO settings to see if I can increase the rate in low light.

Definitely post back your findings on that.

The burst mode shutter sound is a default sound and doesn't necessarily match up with the amount of pics taken. Bear in mind also that the amount of pics taken in burst mode (for example 5 seconds) varies depending on the lighting.
Less light= slower shutter speed = less pics
More light = faster shutter speed = more pics.

Camera Frame Rate - 3 FPS

Go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Common and change EnableFrameRateInfo to 1
ok now go back to either your camera or video camera and you'll see there's now a little box telling you the frames per second. If you play with it you'll notice that it gets very poor in low light (probably around 3 fps) to slightly better in bright light (15 or so). Either way, these frame rates are probably causing the blurry photos. Not sure of the answer, but this shows the problem. Any one have thoughts on if this is a software or hardware issue or any way to tweak this? If you're getting 3fps then the image needs to be entirely still to not blur...
thanks bugsy. i've tried powering off the screen while in camera mode for 10-15 secs and then turning it back on which seems to reduce some of the camera lag or low framerates and now i can more accurately judge what the difference really was. i went from 3-5 fps, to 15-20 fps.
!
10x for the tip bugsy i never got to 20fps even ouside in day lite so i really
hate the way TP is recording....if you move your hand it records like
crap...found a funny one: while using flash lite the lite is reflecting in the
picture so i try to fix it (take one photo with flash lite in dark and then
take another one with the back cover from TP off ) look in the right side of picture to see the diference ,to fix it i painted with a black marker inside the
phone back cover near camera and flash !!!
any ideas how to fix this? 3 frames per second is a total joke. I can point it at a light and move the camera all over and get 15 fps with all sorts of movement. If I move it to low light I'm at 3fps... 15 is tolerable...3 is almost unusable.

I had noticed that flash reflection too, it really ruined flash shots! Well, I did like you said and took a dark marker and marked the metal part on the inside of the back cover, and now no more crappy flash photos, THANK YOU much for this tip!

Camera in RC-33

I'm sure many of you have already figured this out, but i just thought I would let anyone who hasn't seen it yet, know how much faster the shutter speed is on the camera!!! It is actually a very nice camera to use now!!! Woo Hoo!!! Make sure and check it out
it might just be me but I think overall system performance is improved. for sure the camera is more responsive though.
Yes, its much better now. Can actually take pics 80% of the time now without them being blurry
good to know,
im still on adp1.1 but
are you guys using the standard camera or the snapshot app ??
is the performance the same on both camera apps?

I'm using both. The SnapPhoto app is still laggy as before the update, maybe a hair faster if at all.
Ah, so you won't really notice a difference if using snap photo. I made that my default so I haven't tried just the camera. I'll give it a shot and see how it is.. Thanks for the heads up

Thank you! I posted this at Android Community earlier and noone responded..I thought it was just my imagination lol
I'm not really noticing a difference, still takes about the same time to focus and take the shot as it usually does for me. Still hard to take pictures without them being blurry as well.
Excellent! Thanks for the heads-up. SnapPhoto was annoying me as well; it's nice to have the default back.
i was thinking mine was a little faster at first .. but i've noticed varied results .. even back on RC29-30 .. one day it goes slow .. next day fast .. etc .. so i'm still noticing varying stability with the camera .. seems to be directly related to some resources somehow
I also ditched SnapPhoto. The Camera app is much, much better than it was.
Maybe its not on some people's g1 but i have been playing with it constantly the past day and a half and so far it is much better. Takes pic right away now. Said this same thing in rc33 thread and some guy said no it isnt on his. Poll seems to say otherwise though, along with my g1.
I have not noticed any increase in speed.
G1 camera is still a joke compared to my aged Nokia N70
I don't see any improvement, I've installed RC33 and the lag between button click and actual photo shot is like several seconds.
In good lighting the G1 takes pretty good pics, but in low lvls it is not too great and takes a bit longer.
SnapPhoto is just as fast now if you turn off stability detection, as far as I can tell.
I haven't noticed any speed boost in the shutter but I also have only tried in pretty dark situations. I will check it out in a few and report back.
I haven't really noticed a big speed increase but of course I'm trying to take pics of my 20 month old son. He is never still for more than a sec. I guess he is less blurry, lol

Snapphoto is the faster camera if you turn off auto focus and leave stability control on. I just wish night mode actually worked...

Camera FV 5 shutter speed issue on Xperia XZ

Hi guys, I am new to the forum. Its good to be here.
So, I just installed camera fv 5 lite and the problem is that the shutter speed goes to a maximum of 1/11 secs. I was reading another guys tutorial and his one plusone could go to 64 seconds! He mite have had the paid version but still even in the light version it shouldn't be this low! I am confused why this is happening!
Please can someone give me a fix for this especially those of you familiar with camera fv 5. Or another app that allows to set exposure, shutter speed etc which works on xperia xz. Hope some of you guys can help me out.
Have a great day.
I've tried several 3rd party camera apps, even paid versions, including the paid version of FV-5 and none of them would offer a slower shutter speed than 1/10 second. I believe that is the slowest that Sony surfaces through the api to other apps.
Also none of the other apps allow any higher resolution than 8MP.
Lastly, I couldn't get FV-5 to even work on my XZ. I could take a couple of photos then the app appears to lock up. The circle in the center keeps spinning like it can't obtain focus.

Thanks for your reply, Fred! That is sad news though. I also tried several 3rd party apps (bought one too) but as you said, the shutter speed does not go below 1/10s. I wonder if you can root your device and fiddle around to change it from there or is it more of a hardware issue (kind of a noob when it comes to these things). The thing is I was reading an article where this guy used his OnePlus One to take epic milky way pictures just using his phone, fv 5 and a tripod. His phone and fv 5 allowed him a 64 second shutter speed! The results were unbelievable. I though to myself an Xperia XZ with such a great camera would do wonders but apparently not
BTW Fred, the issue you told me regarding fv 5 (spinning), it happened to me too but I think I just was not keeping the phone steady. When I kept the phone steady it would circle around, turn green, and take the picture (but I have a feeling your problem might be different). Just trying to help you out.
Thanks again man.
I hope there is some fix/hack out there that can reduce the shutter speed to at least 30-40 seconds. Samsung S7 has a 10 second shutter speed!

I'm not sure if there will be a way to get a very long shutter speed. The Sony camera app jas a max of only 1 sec., which, to me, is still very fast. Other phones that i have allow up to about 30 secs max shutter speed.
I should add that the problem i observed with FV-5 only occurs when I take the app out of auto mode, specifically go to shutter priority. Happens even in strong sunlight. I just downloaded and tried it agaik, since i got the android 7.1.1 update last night. Same problem, no change

Camera is laggy as hell

Same issue anyone?
Laggy in what way? The UI, camera interface or shutter speed?
The phone is junk.
Half baked software on the camera, plenty of hardware issues. Instead of releasing 5 phone a year Sony should stick to 1/2 and refine the software/hardware.
Its 2017 and the camera software and output is now basically behind that on the iPhone 6. Hell my Z3 compact takes better pictures.
I'm sorry you feel that way... Go back to iPhone! This is the best handset from Sony in sometime now and none of the problems you mentioned have been highlighted. You must be having a localized issue so stop thrashing categorically as it's isolated to you. Constructive criticism goes much further than complaints

I guess you refer to the camera speed when shutter key is pressed half-way (autofocus locked in). This is "normal", it's because the predictive capture is on, the camera is taking a lot of pictures, it happens in auto mode. Try to switch to manual mode and see if the problem still occurs.

Man, thats unusual. I sell Sony Devices and eceryone thats had The same problem Was because they were pushing The Camera bottom (the physical one) unintentionally. Please next time check it carefully and let we know
I never really had any problems with the camera or the phone itself.
You're bound to find a lot of posts regarding issues with ANY phone, because more people are likely to post a complaint rather than praises.
Regardless, all phones have issues. If you don't like it, simply sell/return it and move along. No need to be salty.

Camera on screen looks like refracted air and phone shakes and lens whirring noise

I have read that the Pixel 3a has these issue of shaking phone and blurry photos with a whirring sound (happens when taking video too). When the camera is on before taking pic the screen looks wavy like refractive air on the road on a hot day. Well, this is happening with my new Pixel 4a that it 2 days old. Customer service put me through the ringer with uninstalling and reinstalling camera app (didn't help), restarting phone (didn't help), clearing cache (didn't help). My 3a never had this issue even though it was a known issue. I can't find anywhere online that this is was ever resolved.
Any suggestions? Anyone else have this issue?
For me it only happens with certain lighting. The light from one of my displays causes it, but not the others. If I focus on the display, it goes away.
