I'm sure many of you have already figured this out, but i just thought I would let anyone who hasn't seen it yet, know how much faster the shutter speed is on the camera!!! It is actually a very nice camera to use now!!! Woo Hoo!!! Make sure and check it out
it might just be me but I think overall system performance is improved. for sure the camera is more responsive though.
Yes, its much better now. Can actually take pics 80% of the time now without them being blurry
good to know,
im still on adp1.1 but
are you guys using the standard camera or the snapshot app ??
is the performance the same on both camera apps?

I'm using both. The SnapPhoto app is still laggy as before the update, maybe a hair faster if at all.
Ah, so you won't really notice a difference if using snap photo. I made that my default so I haven't tried just the camera. I'll give it a shot and see how it is.. Thanks for the heads up

Thank you! I posted this at Android Community earlier and noone responded..I thought it was just my imagination lol
I'm not really noticing a difference, still takes about the same time to focus and take the shot as it usually does for me. Still hard to take pictures without them being blurry as well.
Excellent! Thanks for the heads-up. SnapPhoto was annoying me as well; it's nice to have the default back.
i was thinking mine was a little faster at first .. but i've noticed varied results .. even back on RC29-30 .. one day it goes slow .. next day fast .. etc .. so i'm still noticing varying stability with the camera .. seems to be directly related to some resources somehow
I also ditched SnapPhoto. The Camera app is much, much better than it was.
Maybe its not on some people's g1 but i have been playing with it constantly the past day and a half and so far it is much better. Takes pic right away now. Said this same thing in rc33 thread and some guy said no it isnt on his. Poll seems to say otherwise though, along with my g1.
I have not noticed any increase in speed.
G1 camera is still a joke compared to my aged Nokia N70
I don't see any improvement, I've installed RC33 and the lag between button click and actual photo shot is like several seconds.
In good lighting the G1 takes pretty good pics, but in low lvls it is not too great and takes a bit longer.
SnapPhoto is just as fast now if you turn off stability detection, as far as I can tell.
I haven't noticed any speed boost in the shutter but I also have only tried in pretty dark situations. I will check it out in a few and report back.
I haven't really noticed a big speed increase but of course I'm trying to take pics of my 20 month old son. He is never still for more than a sec. I guess he is less blurry, lol

I agree, I noticed the speed increase in SnapPhoto without stability detection.
Snapphoto is the faster camera if you turn off auto focus and leave stability control on. I just wish night mode actually worked...

Just noticed this when playing with LG cam app and stock cam app.
If you want to test it yourself, do the following:
1. reboot the phone.
2. use it for a while but DO NOT open camera app.
3. goto Settings > About Phone > Battery Use
4. notice there are NO camera listed.
5. now open and close camera app (stock or LG doesn't matter, no need to take pictures or video)
6. use it again for a while
7. go back to Settings > About Phone > Battery Use
8 notice the camera app is listed and battery use is WAY HIGHER than all other apps/system components.
9. Also notice that the camera is warmer than before.
This means the camera is NOT COMPLETELY off when you close the camera app. This probably one of the source of over-heating.
ROM version at the time of this post:
Updated from froyo to GB through LG update tool without any problem.
Flashed xboarder56's rooted GB ROM through CWM.
I'm not convinced. The camera probably draws more battery because it's an extra doohicky. Duh, you activate another part of the phone and it draws more battery. But I'm thinking that the camera probably draws a little more. I also read (sorry, can't source it) that the modem is in that general area as well. The combined draw might be enough to explain the heat gain. And in the battery drain screen, does the drain remain over time? If the camera/battery usage persists over a longer duration, then there is for sure a problem. But I'd guess that with time the percentages will drop to expected levels. I'd think a similar situation would occur with memory. Recording high-def video ain't easy. Even if the phone isn't actually recording video I'll bet it's reserving enough memory so that it can without stuttering.
All of this is pure speculation, I have nothing to back it up..

I hope you read my post again.
It's not about camera draining battery when taking pictures/video. It's opposite: drianing battery when you are NOT using camera: i.e. camera app is closed.
Since people are not convinced, I'll change the test procedure to this:
1. reboot the phone.
2. leave your phone IDLE. DO NOT use it for 5 minutes.
3. goto Settings > About Phone > Battery Use
4. notice there are NO camera listed.
5. now OPEN and CLOSE (use task killer) camera app (stock or LG doesn't matter, no need to take pictures or video)
6. leave your phone IDLE. DO NOT use it for 5 minutes.
7. go back to Settings > About Phone > Battery Use
8. notice the camera app is listed and battery use is WAY HIGHER than all other apps/system components.
9. Also notice that the camera is warmer than before.
OK, following instructions and currently running EB 2.3.3 1.6.
1. Rebooted phone.
2. Started Camera app and pushed back twice to close the app.
3. Verified with Android running processes and Taskiller Free that camera has been nullified.
4. Waited 5 minutes.
Results: Right after I closed the camera app I saw that it had used 2% of total battery. After 5 minutes camera is at 21% usage and climbing. Heating...negligible. But after a few more minutes that could easily change. Just checked again as I write and we're up to 24% usage.
By Jove, I think you're on to something. Sorry for doubting. What now?

I'm no dev but I know if anything seems unusual.
We can do nothing other than hoping incompetent LG software engineers acknowledge this problem.(just acknowledge, not solving)
edit: I think we can do a comparison of the battery drain.
it might be that i'm just lucky. i tried your steps. closed camera after testing it. then killed the process using absolute system root. camera doesn't even show up for me under battery use. ??? even if i keep the camera running for a few minutes. plus, i was outside today recording my boy out in the yard for 15-20 minutes. never noticed anything odd about my battery use. running eaglesblood 1.0.6 and the lg cam ver.1.2 ported for gb 2.3.3. not calling out the op. just sayin.

Depends on whether you rebooted or not.
rebooting clears the battery use statistics since last reboot. Makes it easier to see which app is draining battery.
Yes, I noticed this the other day. It got me worried thinking I had been hacked and a program was accessing my camera. Any way, I think it was fast reboot I used and then the camera usage was no longer on my battery stats. I'm not sure but I'll try it again and see.

i said i tried your steps, meaning, i followed instructions. but you can't say that this is happening to everyone. there are too many variables involved, different roms, software etc.
while i'm sure it is happening to you, it's not happening to everyone. and judging by the lack of responses here, i'd assume it's not happening to most. only time will tell.
My battery usage has continued. Now I'm at 45% but its been a while and other things have been running as well. Very strange. Anyone notice this on any Froyo ROMs?

I've noticed that the camera's burst mode doesn't save all the pictures. I'll use burst mode for a couple seconds, and count maybe 14-15 shutter-clicks, but then when I review the photos afterwards there's only 4 or 5 pics there. Anyone else get this?
I noticed that it makes the camera shutter sound a few more times than it actually takes pictures. Turn sound off and you won't hear it.

You misunderstood. I don't care that it makes a shutter sound. The phone is advertised as being able to take ~5pics per second, which is in line with the shutter sound. However, only 1 photo per second (roughly) are showing up when I'm done. I'd like the burst mode to work as advertised. If anyone else has any feedback on the shutter-to-photo ratio, I'd appreciate hearing it, so I know if it's just my phone, or everyone's.
I just did it, held it down for a few seconds and got 12 pictures, definitely not only 4-5 pictures.

Would you say you heard the shutter sound around 12 times? That is, does the shutter sound match the number of photos taken?
I'll try clearing my Camera data/cache and see if it helps.
EDIT: Nope. I wonder if it's a hardware thing. Too bad I'm already in "tampered" mode.

They don't check for that. I'd swap it after calling tech support and getting a confirmation number. Factor reset would be worth a shot at this point as well.

Yeah, good call on those things.
However, I was just outside for a smoke break and the rate seemed much closer to what it should be, so I'm thinking maybe the lighting conditions affected it. I'll continue doing some testing, and if I still find it unsatisfactory, I'll contact HTC support.

It sounds like it clicks more times than there are photos, but not by much. It clicks so fast to count haha
I just did burst mode and I tried to count as fast as I could... but I got 20 pictures. I was able to count 15 clicks but I think I missed a few, so this sounds like my phone is accurate.
Is your battery below 50% when you do this? Remember, the crazy htc power features disable a core and downclock the other to 1GHZ when battery is low (I don't believe we know what the threshold % is yet). Try it on a full charge. It could just be cpu unable to keep up when in this mode.
Less light= slower shutter speed. I think the shutter sound is probably set and has no correlation to the pictures.Which would explain why Red got more pictures than clicks and you had the opposite reaction.
I always turn sound off, so I never took notice.

Yes, this is exactly what I've found. I took some pics outside during the day on the weekend and the number of photos was pretty much what I expected. Took more photos outside after the sun went down and the number was significantly decreased.
I can live with this. Maybe I'll try playing around with the exposure/ISO settings to see if I can increase the rate in low light.

The burst mode shutter sound is a default sound and doesn't necessarily match up with the amount of pics taken. Bear in mind also that the amount of pics taken in burst mode (for example 5 seconds) varies depending on the lighting.

More light = faster shutter speed = more pics.

Hi guys, I am new to the forum. Its good to be here.
So, I just installed camera fv 5 lite and the problem is that the shutter speed goes to a maximum of 1/11 secs. I was reading another guys tutorial and his one plusone could go to 64 seconds! He mite have had the paid version but still even in the light version it shouldn't be this low! I am confused why this is happening!
Please can someone give me a fix for this especially those of you familiar with camera fv 5. Or another app that allows to set exposure, shutter speed etc which works on xperia xz. Hope some of you guys can help me out.
Have a great day.
I've tried several 3rd party camera apps, even paid versions, including the paid version of FV-5 and none of them would offer a slower shutter speed than 1/10 second. I believe that is the slowest that Sony surfaces through the api to other apps.
Also none of the other apps allow any higher resolution than 8MP.
Lastly, I couldn't get FV-5 to even work on my XZ. I could take a couple of photos then the app appears to lock up. The circle in the center keeps spinning like it can't obtain focus.

Thanks for your reply, Fred! That is sad news though. I also tried several 3rd party apps (bought one too) but as you said, the shutter speed does not go below 1/10s. I wonder if you can root your device and fiddle around to change it from there or is it more of a hardware issue (kind of a noob when it comes to these things). The thing is I was reading an article where this guy used his OnePlus One to take epic milky way pictures just using his phone, fv 5 and a tripod. His phone and fv 5 allowed him a 64 second shutter speed! The results were unbelievable. I though to myself an Xperia XZ with such a great camera would do wonders but apparently not
BTW Fred, the issue you told me regarding fv 5 (spinning), it happened to me too but I think I just was not keeping the phone steady. When I kept the phone steady it would circle around, turn green, and take the picture (but I have a feeling your problem might be different). Just trying to help you out.
Thanks again man.
I hope there is some fix/hack out there that can reduce the shutter speed to at least 30-40 seconds. Samsung S7 has a 10 second shutter speed!

I'm not sure if there will be a way to get a very long shutter speed. The Sony camera app jas a max of only 1 sec., which, to me, is still very fast. Other phones that i have allow up to about 30 secs max shutter speed.
I should add that the problem i observed with FV-5 only occurs when I take the app out of auto mode, specifically go to shutter priority. Happens even in strong sunlight. I just downloaded and tried it agaik, since i got the android 7.1.1 update last night. Same problem, no change

Same issue anyone?
Laggy in what way? The UI, camera interface or shutter speed?
The phone is junk.
Half baked software on the camera, plenty of hardware issues. Instead of releasing 5 phone a year Sony should stick to 1/2 and refine the software/hardware.
Its 2017 and the camera software and output is now basically behind that on the iPhone 6. Hell my Z3 compact takes better pictures.
I'm sorry you feel that way... Go back to iPhone! This is the best handset from Sony in sometime now and none of the problems you mentioned have been highlighted. You must be having a localized issue so stop thrashing categorically as it's isolated to you. Constructive criticism goes much further than complaints

I guess you refer to the camera speed when shutter key is pressed half-way (autofocus locked in). This is "normal", it's because the predictive capture is on, the camera is taking a lot of pictures, it happens in auto mode. Try to switch to manual mode and see if the problem still occurs.

for being on all the time, it doesn't trigger very often. I get nearly all blurry photos due to a busy toddler.

Laggy in what way? The UI, camera interface or shutter speed?

when im shaking it, "fps" drops, while on xperia z is butter smooth, haha...
Man, thats unusual. I sell Sony Devices and eceryone thats had The same problem Was because they were pushing The Camera bottom (the physical one) unintentionally. Please next time check it carefully and let we know
I never really had any problems with the camera or the phone itself.
You're bound to find a lot of posts regarding issues with ANY phone, because more people are likely to post a complaint rather than praises.
Regardless, all phones have issues. If you don't like it, simply sell/return it and move along. No need to be salty.
Would you say that the Honor 7X is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Honor 7X exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
No Problem with any performance and flies with the usage
Fantastic. Superb performance in this price range. Sometimes small lags is there but thats only if i applied any heavy modded themes. If we use stock themes no issues for me. Overall very happy with the speed. Never got any delay in any apps. Superb....
Day to day performance is great
Some APK`s i cant install, don`t know why, install Button is greyed out
You have to give the permission to file explorer & then you can install the app from file explorer doesn't work if you install from UC browser or other platforms directly.

My 3gb USA model gets me from day to day operations but suffers from severe freezing/lag at random times while browsing the web or viewing social media. I barely see any forums mentioning similar behavior so I'm starting to think I need to factory reset or I have a defective unit

Mine does this. Will basically freeze and not let me do anything. Does it often. I guess I will reset and see what happens.
Love the phone but can't handle the lag.
I'm stumped by people that say it's fast with no issues.

Yeah I feel like I'm in the twilight zone when I see people saying the speed is fine with minimal lag. That what leads me to think we may have defective units. With the Honor 6x I've seen people say that a factory reset fixed their issues.
Much better after factory reset. Slows still from time to time but no just stand still freezes. Bearable. I want this phone with these features with flagship internals though still. Thinking the view 10 may fit that when it comes to US.

OK thanks for the update, I will reset mine this weekend and will also be anticipating the View 10, especially if the price is right.

ya i am also facing the same problem when i am using third party application it shows gray button to install and i am not able to instal the app
Better performance.
I've found that disabling many of the Honor and EMUI apps (via Package Disabler or other methods) has made a huge difference in speed as well as battery life personally.
I've also experienced seemingly random slowdowns. Facebook seems to trigger it alot. clearing open apps speeds it back up.
Interestingly, it seems like it could be a ram issue, but i've never seen less than 1gb free ram, usually about 1.4gb free
I'll try disabling the emui/huawei apps to see if that helps.
I can't wait for oreo and project treble, then i can run regular aosp based without the emui bs.

They probably post after only using it a few days. Mine was fine at first. After about a week sometimes it would freeze, especially if I'd recently used facebook and chrome the keyboard would struggle. I'd need to either wait or kill a few apps and it would go back to being okay.
The stock camera software has a lot of features, but it is waaaaaay to slow.
I needed a new phone, but we had a lot of expenses last year and so I bought something cheap. It's not terrible. I'll be happy to get a year out of it.
