Go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Common and change EnableFrameRateInfo to 1
ok now go back to either your camera or video camera and you'll see there's now a little box telling you the frames per second. If you play with it you'll notice that it gets very poor in low light (probably around 3 fps) to slightly better in bright light (15 or so). Either way, these frame rates are probably causing the blurry photos. Not sure of the answer, but this shows the problem. Any one have thoughts on if this is a software or hardware issue or any way to tweak this? If you're getting 3fps then the image needs to be entirely still to not blur...
thanks bugsy. i've tried powering off the screen while in camera mode for 10-15 secs and then turning it back on which seems to reduce some of the camera lag or low framerates and now i can more accurately judge what the difference really was. i went from 3-5 fps, to 15-20 fps.
!
10x for the tip bugsy i never got to 20fps even ouside in day lite so i really
hate the way TP is recording....if you move your hand it records like
crap...found a funny one: while using flash lite the lite is reflecting in the
picture so i try to fix it (take one photo with flash lite in dark and then
take another one with the back cover from TP off ) look in the right side of picture to see the diference ,to fix it i painted with a black marker inside the
phone back cover near camera and flash !!!
any ideas how to fix this? 3 frames per second is a total joke. I can point it at a light and move the camera all over and get 15 fps with all sorts of movement. If I move it to low light I'm at 3fps... 15 is tolerable...3 is almost unusable.

I had noticed that flash reflection too, it really ruined flash shots! Well, I did like you said and took a dark marker and marked the metal part on the inside of the back cover, and now no more crappy flash photos, THANK YOU much for this tip!

10x but not really working for me,but i see that it works for many other people so i think that this have something to do with the battery power then i unchek Auto adjust backlight from power menu then start the camera it shows 8 to 12fps then in 1-2secs it checks it self somehow Auto adjust backlight box automatic and gose back to 3fps .... :-?? so i think the problem is from battery power that camera uses .... !!! I've noticed that the camera's burst mode doesn't save all the pictures. I'll use burst mode for a couple seconds, and count maybe 14-15 shutter-clicks, but then when I review the photos afterwards there's only 4 or 5 pics there. Anyone else get this?
I noticed that it makes the camera shutter sound a few more times than it actually takes pictures. Turn sound off and you won't hear it.

You misunderstood. I don't care that it makes a shutter sound. The phone is advertised as being able to take ~5pics per second, which is in line with the shutter sound. However, only 1 photo per second (roughly) are showing up when I'm done. I'd like the burst mode to work as advertised. If anyone else has any feedback on the shutter-to-photo ratio, I'd appreciate hearing it, so I know if it's just my phone, or everyone's.
I just did it, held it down for a few seconds and got 12 pictures, definitely not only 4-5 pictures.

Would you say you heard the shutter sound around 12 times? That is, does the shutter sound match the number of photos taken?
I'll try clearing my Camera data/cache and see if it helps.
EDIT: Nope. I wonder if it's a hardware thing. Too bad I'm already in "tampered" mode.

They don't check for that. I'd swap it after calling tech support and getting a confirmation number. Factor reset would be worth a shot at this point as well.

Yeah, good call on those things.
However, I was just outside for a smoke break and the rate seemed much closer to what it should be, so I'm thinking maybe the lighting conditions affected it. I'll continue doing some testing, and if I still find it unsatisfactory, I'll contact HTC support.

It sounds like it clicks more times than there are photos, but not by much. It clicks so fast to count haha
I just did burst mode and I tried to count as fast as I could... but I got 20 pictures. I was able to count 15 clicks but I think I missed a few, so this sounds like my phone is accurate.
Is your battery below 50% when you do this? Remember, the crazy htc power features disable a core and downclock the other to 1GHZ when battery is low (I don't believe we know what the threshold % is yet). Try it on a full charge. It could just be cpu unable to keep up when in this mode.
Less light= slower shutter speed. I think the shutter sound is probably set and has no correlation to the pictures.Which would explain why Red got more pictures than clicks and you had the opposite reaction.
I always turn sound off, so I never took notice.

Same here, I've got mixed results depending on lighting. In the day it's pretty much spot on.

i tried it last night and it clicked like 12-15 times and i got 2 pictures. i wasn't in the best of lighting though... i've also gotten like 5 clicks and 5 pictures... so i don't know...
Yup yup, noticed this a few days ago and just tested in the same room with different lighting conditions.
Dim lights 8-9 shutter sounds produced 4 pictures, with all of the lights on 8-9 shutter sounds produced 8 pictures.

Yes, this is exactly what I've found. I took some pics outside during the day on the weekend and the number of photos was pretty much what I expected. Took more photos outside after the sun went down and the number was significantly decreased.
I can live with this. Maybe I'll try playing around with the exposure/ISO settings to see if I can increase the rate in low light.

Definitely post back your findings on that.

The burst mode shutter sound is a default sound and doesn't necessarily match up with the amount of pics taken. Bear in mind also that the amount of pics taken in burst mode (for example 5 seconds) varies depending on the lighting.
Less light= slower shutter speed = less pics
More light = faster shutter speed = more pics.

Hello, i'm from Colombia and my english is not that good.
But i'll try.
27th Dec 2012 i bough and HTC One X at&t from Amazon, got delivered by Jan12 Saturday 2013 about 15:00 hours, retrieved, unboxing bla bla bla, i was testing the device, i came with ICS 4.0.4, Sense 4 and RUU 2.20, everything was working fine, data, wifi, screen, sound, but, when i was about to try the LED Flash of the Camera (to find out if it has AF Assist Lamp, witch it hasn't) i found a very weird artifact
This is it, i took 2 photos to a paper on a tablet.
The left one <-- was taken with LED Flash On (NOT AUTO, ON) and the right one --> was taken with it off (OFF, NOT AUTO)
This is so frustrating, practically there is no way to take photos with flash, is not a hardware issue (i think cuz when i record a video and take a photo while recording with LED LIGHT ON, the photo is fine, there is no such artifact), another way was changing the auto whitebalance to fluorescent and the photo becomes a little decent, and i thoght that i can handlet it, but no, when on Instagram, Facebook Cam, Cymera, etc. There is no sense Cam interface to take Photos while recording a video, neither the auto white balance option to get rigde of the "sephie like effect" so, i decided to change the ROM just to try:
Tried Vyper XL 3.0 and 2.4 and was the same ****, so i decided to reflash the device back to stock with and RUU 2.20, right now it has OEM ROM with Bootloader relocked and no root. and is in the same that was when i got it.
So, the Q are:
Is there another person who has experience the same issue?
Is there a way to fix it? Since i think it is a software problem, maybe yes maybe not.
Thanks.
I was thinking about sending back to LA for Warranty but... It will cost me $74 and a month of waiting.
i searched on Google and here but found nothing.
UP (?)
I don't think there is anything to "fix" here, and the camera is basically working as intended. It looks like just a matter of taking a picture of a completely white frame combined with the flash, which is throwing off the white balance. I'm sure there a plenty of other color/light combinations that will similarly result in odd white balance results. Its just a computer algorithm that is trying to interpret the lighting conditions and guess the "best" white balance, and its not going to be correct all the time.
You've already found the workaround, which is to either turn off the flash, or change the white balance manually. Or you might be able to fix the color after the fact with the built-in editing feature or 3rd party apps. I certainly wouldn't suggest warranty service, and don't think it will fix the problem anyway.
Flash isn't recommended for macro/close range shots, anyway. You get unsightly reflections like the one in your example. Even aside from the "sepia" tone, your second (no flash) example just plain looks better in every way. So why even use the flash, unless you for some reason have a need to regularly take photos of documents in low light, requiring a flash?

Wtf? xd
I have also a Infuse 4G, 8 Mpx too, LED Flash, and the results with the Flash on, no matter if it's needed or not, are as it should be.
But this? here are two more examples, and i just took about 50 pictures, all with the LED On, and the sephie tone is everywhere, from a bathroom with zero light to outside, with sunlight, and even blocking the LED light with the finger.
This is so frustrating. I hope that is there a fix .
Another factor may be that the white balance by default is significantly "over-saturated", presumably by HTC to make colors more vivid and "pop" more. This could be why you are seeing this effect on this phone, when you don't on other phones or digital cameras.
But the latest photos you posted look pretty funky. Also, I've also tried to duplicate the effect by taking a picture of a printed page, and can't get the sepia tint. In fact, my photos actually look more white with the flash (more of a yellowish tint with flash off). These factors make me re-think my previous statement that it is working the way its supposed to.
Does the yellowish tint happen with subjects farther away too? Such as taking a picture of a person or landscape?
Defect with the camera? Maybe.
A "fix" aside from repair or exchange? Doubtful. The fact this issue persists across multiple ROMs suggests it may be a hardware problem.

Yes, no matter what, if the flash is On, the "sephia like effect" persist

Couldn't hurt to try a AOSP-based ROM. ViperXL uses a different camera from stock 2.20 firmware, although its a newer version of the Sense camera.
The phone in question is HTC Desire S. I've noticed a strange hand symbol while using a main camera. It doesn't show up when I want to take an upclose shot (most of the time), but it starts blinking (irregular intervals) when start moving the phone or I try to take a shot in the distance. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but this phone has some issues with autofocus (works fine in upclOse shots, but completely misses in distance).
So, the question is, what does that hand symbol mean? Is it a stabilization or something? Here is the link of image.
http:/ / w* w w.imageshack.com/photo/my-images/405/imag0547or.jpg/
Image stabilization working, or it's telling you to hold your phone still.
Im not sure, it''s just idea. Because when you put phone on table, so it doesn't move, it stops blinking.:good:
On cameras (dedicated hardware, not software or webcams) this symbol warns that shot quality is going to suffer from camera instability. Generally you should see it when taking photos in low light environements (eg. early evening or indoors with no electric light).
Thanks for the explanatation. This topic can be locked now.
Hi guys, I am new to the forum. Its good to be here.
So, I just installed camera fv 5 lite and the problem is that the shutter speed goes to a maximum of 1/11 secs. I was reading another guys tutorial and his one plusone could go to 64 seconds! He mite have had the paid version but still even in the light version it shouldn't be this low! I am confused why this is happening!
Please can someone give me a fix for this especially those of you familiar with camera fv 5. Or another app that allows to set exposure, shutter speed etc which works on xperia xz. Hope some of you guys can help me out.
Have a great day.
I've tried several 3rd party camera apps, even paid versions, including the paid version of FV-5 and none of them would offer a slower shutter speed than 1/10 second. I believe that is the slowest that Sony surfaces through the api to other apps.
Also none of the other apps allow any higher resolution than 8MP.
Lastly, I couldn't get FV-5 to even work on my XZ. I could take a couple of photos then the app appears to lock up. The circle in the center keeps spinning like it can't obtain focus.

Thanks for your reply, Fred! That is sad news though. I also tried several 3rd party apps (bought one too) but as you said, the shutter speed does not go below 1/10s. I wonder if you can root your device and fiddle around to change it from there or is it more of a hardware issue (kind of a noob when it comes to these things). The thing is I was reading an article where this guy used his OnePlus One to take epic milky way pictures just using his phone, fv 5 and a tripod. His phone and fv 5 allowed him a 64 second shutter speed! The results were unbelievable. I though to myself an Xperia XZ with such a great camera would do wonders but apparently not
BTW Fred, the issue you told me regarding fv 5 (spinning), it happened to me too but I think I just was not keeping the phone steady. When I kept the phone steady it would circle around, turn green, and take the picture (but I have a feeling your problem might be different). Just trying to help you out.
Thanks again man.
I hope there is some fix/hack out there that can reduce the shutter speed to at least 30-40 seconds. Samsung S7 has a 10 second shutter speed!

I'm not sure if there will be a way to get a very long shutter speed. The Sony camera app jas a max of only 1 sec., which, to me, is still very fast. Other phones that i have allow up to about 30 secs max shutter speed.
I should add that the problem i observed with FV-5 only occurs when I take the app out of auto mode, specifically go to shutter priority. Happens even in strong sunlight. I just downloaded and tried it agaik, since i got the android 7.1.1 update last night. Same problem, no change

Camera fv 5 is the worst for manual control for Sony devices in my opinion. I Advice snap camera hdr. There you can use manual controls at full resolution and some extra things. But shutter speed same.

Hi all, just looking for a suggestion as to what could be causing my issue.
long story short, got phone yesterday afternoon gmt, by time I got chance to play with it was around 9pm, anyway I took a quick video with 960fps, good results but bit grainy, probably due to sun beginning to set.
No problem, says it needs good lighting, I'll try it indoors later, so fast forward a couple hours and I got good lighting indoors, photos and video coming out nice and clear, but whenever I try slow mo I get an effect as if my light is on a strobe setting.
Not sure if it's faulty or just really crappy in artificial light, I suppose I can find out soon enough, but wondered what you guys thought
What kind of light do you have? Certain lights such as flourescent actually "blink" 50-60 times a second depends on what hz the electricity in your country is. It's kinda a given that those blinks will be easily distinguished when you slow down time 32 times. All artificial lights flicker but some can be used in high framerate videos while others can't. Even the sun flickers but there is currently no camera able to record in a framerate high enough to see it. When they film in high framerates in a studio setting they actually sync the flickering with the camera so all frames it records are when the light is on.
I think some types of LED lights don't flicker (but be careful, some do) so you can try with them if you have.
Incandescent lamps won't flicker for sure, you can try using them.

Ok cool, its definately the lights in the house, just tried it with curtains open n lights off, no strobe.
So i guess im limited to doing slow mo in sunlight or need to buy new light bulbs lol
I have led lightbulbs upstairs, all downstairs ones are old school filament type bulbs, due to hours i work i best get looking for some flicker free lights
