So earlier today, I was feeling rather experimental with my phone, not software wise, but hardware.
Earlier that week I saw a picture of and iphone with a homemade macro lens on it, so I was said to myself- If someone could do that to there Iphone and still hold it right, why cant I do that with my Nexus One? So I did.
It was a lot of trial and error, but eventually I got it, and took amazing pictures, beyond what I ever thought was possible with a phone.
To think our Nexus One's can take almost professional quality photos! I think you will be just as amazed with these pictures as I am .
Please note: These pictures were not edited in any way, just resized for your viewing pleasure!

I know what your thinking! "Hey how do I make one of those snazzy lenses for my super phone?" Well there are many different ways I am guessing, but I will tell you my technique!
Materials:
-Super Glue
-Thick Gauge Wire
-More super glue
-Scotch/Electrical tape
-Disposable camera lens
-Pliers
If you dont have any of these materials, your looking at about $25-$35 USD.
Procedure:
1. Jack the camera lens from a cheapy disposable camera (anyway works, just make sure you dont dink around with the lens).
2. Wrap wire around the lens
3. Super glue it to the wire so it stays
4. Let it dry
5. Bend the wire so the lens fits directly in front of the camera sensor
6. Make it stay on your phone
7. Wrap electrical/scotch tape around the wire to avoid damage to your beloved Nexus One.
8. Take it for a test.
Remember- a lot of trial and error, so be patient. Also, these are very brief instructions- so be creative.
I am not responsible for any damage done to your phone or Camera, or anything.
Here is how mine looks:
If you like my idea and use it and post it around without giving me acknowledgment or credit, then you are clearly a basement dwelling virgin man child. Just sayin'
Please post comments on your thoughts, or if you do it, upload some pics and tell what you did and how it went, cause I am just as curious as you
Donations are appreciated, but never mandatory

The first one, I have never seen it but its surprisingly similar. The second one, holy crap! Who would do that lol
What lens did you use exactly? Cause one a size up might get rid of the black ring around the pics. Then they'd be so sick. This is a creative mod and it works really well. Awesome dude.

I just used a disposable camera lens, but it has the black ring because it wasn't adjusted right. I modified it today and it seems to work well now

Anybody use the Panorama function yet? Pretty awesome if you ask me... I took this shot early morning, so the lighting was hard to deal with (plus I left it on auto, didn't turn it to daytime)... But you get the idea of how it really does mesh the 3 pictures very well.

That pic looks awesome for a phone, espcially being a panoramic shot. I cannot wait until I can order my Touch Pro on 29th August from Vodafone UK!
Thanks

You can't tell the quality of the video AT ALL because photobucket had to compress/convert it so much...

Looks a hell of a lot better than that on the device, needless to say. Also, the picture quality is on "Normal", it has a "Fine" and "Super Fine" mode but I'm not shooting for gold here so whatever.
From my Tilt actually but I do love the Pano mode nonetheless. I think this was a 6 shotter.

I think by default the 6 shotter only does 1mpxl but you can edit the Reg to allow 3mpxl 6shotter pano's. Essentially having an 18mpxl shot!
Heres a reg tweak from the Development and Hacking forum

Neither. You take a picture, and it ghosts the right part of it on the left part of your screen... You move the camera to the right a little, match up the ghost image, and take another picture... Etcetcetc. Up to 6 times to lengthen the photo, and it digitally syncs it as well as it can.

Cheers. yeah, I can see a bit of blurring but I suppose it would ultimately decide on what you took a pic of. Nice feature, I think that about swings it for the TP, although.... the N96 can pick up UK digital terrestrial TV, 700 quid is a bit much though, I even baulk at the the price of the TP.
I'd like to see how it handles a more detailed background. you chose a perfect one, the garden, lots of green and the blurring just melts into the background.

There is no front facing cam...do your research...
There is no Front Facing camera. What you see on the front are the light sensor and proximity sensors.
seriously? please have a clue about the phone you are using befor asking questions like this
Ha ha, that is a sensor bud. Your captivate will never have a front facing camera but you will not be last person to start a thread just like this and you were not the first person either so don't feel too bad.
Maybe get a webcam with microUSB connector, some tape, and the USB driver to turn the phone into a USB. Then all you need is a driver on the phone and you are all set.
It might not fit in your pocket.
Open any application that would access the camera
Use phone backwards
There you go forward facing camera
or if u can develop some sort of mirror system, attach it to the back camera, and use reflections as the image...
Problem Solved!

tim that's really cool. I'd buy.
i really dont know why they dont put the camera on a swivel so you can flip it around. No need for extra hardware, and its convenient for taking all sorts of pics.

Or the fact that it's painfully obvious that it's not a camera. Other than that, the simple logic that a feature such as a forward facing camera, if there, would be something advertised to counter Facetime or at least turned on in the FW if the obvious CCD was there.

Yes, could that be the problem? I thought everyone looks at digital photos on PCs. FWIW the color problem persists on various PCs and on the phone itself.
To be honest, I think your photo proves the OP's point. I'm not saying it doesn't look great - it does; however, the colours are way over-saturated, meaning that while it looks nice, it does not look like a real or accurate represenation of the subject.

But unless that plant in the foreground is plugged into an outlet, there's no way that color can be accurate. Does it not look outrageously bright green to you?

Exactly. It looks "nice"... but the colors are way too intense.
Has anyone using a non-stock ROM noticed a difference?
Here's an example. The couch in this picture is a rather subdued maroon color. It does not glow like this in real life.
Yup. I just took a pic to confirm and its very noticeable. This is a big issue.
I find that if you into into the image adjustments and lower the saturation by 1, the colors are more accurate and natural. The photos are from my school and i think that just lowering the saturation it looks more natural
Looks like that does it, nice tip mate.

LOL indeed.
I'm comparing the photos from this to the photos of previous smart phones, like the Nexus One, G2 and several Samsung phones I've owned. All of these took better pictures with more accurate colors. The One S does have some nice features, like HDR and Low Light mode, but if the colors are all wrong, then it doesn't matter.
But it seems this may be lost on you. You're clearly struggling to understand the term 'smart phone'. My suspicion is that you, having little experience with the first half of the term have chosen to ignore it, and this is what has lead you to believe that a smart phone is 'just a damn phone.'
Relax man! Don't get so wound up! It's not the end of the world!

Actually, it's quite the opposite. I am very much aware about the 'smart' bit in 'smartphone' but I just think that no matter how you put it the camera on a 'smartphone' can never be included in the 'smart' bit.
You see, I am actually very much into photography and I do care quite a bit about the photo quality and that is why a phone no matter how 'smart' it is will never cut it for me - the quality is simply not there from the very start. There is no way to get the same quality from the tiny sensor and lens in a 'smart' phone as you would get from an SLR, even one with a 1.6 crop factor, and a proper set of lens.
So basically if you want your photos to look good then don't take them with a phone! While if you just want to point and shoot when you're out with your friends then I don't think the colour accuracy is that much of a big deal - you can always retouch them in Photoshop if you care that much. At the end of the day in a point and shoot situation you probably want to capture the moment and not so much to take an artistic photo.
I may well be wrong since the camera function on my 'smart' phone is one of the things I use the least. In my case, when I want to take good photos I make sure I have my SLR with me - I'd never leave it to the camera on my phone. That is not to say that the phone is not actually very smart indeed, don't get me wrong, it's just that I use all the other functions a hell of a lot more and I think that's what makes it really smart, not the silly camera...
You guys needa go buy nikons if you're worried about ur couch looking too red honestly

LOOOL
I totally agree man! That's what I did! Mind you, I'm not a Nikon fan though, I like my Canon 550D a lot more!
You guys are totally missing the point. Photography is also a hobby of mine (I happen to be a Nikon fan) but that does not mean I can't expect that my new phone take pictures at least as good as a phone from FIVE years ago.
If the phone's calculator added one and one and came up with thirty three, would you tell me it's not a problem, and that I shouldn't be using a phone for a calculator?
What happened to this thread--
I will agree if the photos are VERY important, a phone may not be the way to go or take some photos before buying
On the other hand no need to lambast anyone
For this old man--I can only hope if someone takes a pic of me with my phone, it enhances me as well as it does the other photos it takes--
I've had a little accident regarding my Note 3. I was taking part in my hobby (Horse Riding) during a trot my phone decided to fall of my pocket. (when not having lessons I have a Bluetooth ear piece for taking phone calls). Long story short, my phone got trodden on by 200lbs, twice, 200lbs per hoof.
What I want to know is, is there anyone else that has had a lot of pressure placed on their phones?

Try that again on tarmac and let us know but this time show the pic of your phone instead.
Haha yeah I was gonna say.
Still even with the loose substrate I think it held up quite well to the increased pressure compared to other phones due to its size.
How do u know it's exactly 200 lb per hoof. What if one hoof was smaller then the other.
How do u know which hoof..
Serious questions man lol.

I didn't think people we're replying... I don't that was just a wild guess (the horse (Small pony) + tack + me is 800lbs...I don't have a camera to get a picture...but the little tiny crack is still there in the bottom left of the screen.
not sure how much kilos but my daugther always steps on it and thinks that its like something to step on. and she always throws it here and there. i has gone through a lot of throwing. it even landed face first on solid concrete from lets say 20". (not to imagine it was thrown really hard). but not a single dent/crack whatsoever. really happy with it for now. its handling the brutal day to day life. lol
btw, mine has a back case. and the lower/upper side of the phone is completely unprotected. and it has a screen protector that wasn't cheap and that the guy that sold it to me when i bought the phone said it is genuine stuff. lol
have fun killing your phone mate

It depends on how it fell and if it was face down or face up. Pretty sure it was fave down in the dirt. The dirt probably soften the hit and the back of the phone is straight plastic

If one hoof was smaller it would still be the same 200lb exerted over a smaller surface area ha it wouldn't make it lighter.

This thread really doesn't matter anymore....the phone survived and this happened back in November...I don't actually remember it happening now too well (My memory is terrible) and I don't care too much as it's a small crack and it doesn't bother me

not to mention the fact that the horse/pony (to me it looks more like a big pony) is never rollin' on 4 hoofs at the same time...there are at the most 3 hoofs on da ground when he's ....hmmmm.. rollin' ....it's called dynamic weight distribution and, depending on da hoof, it could've exerted as much as 400lb on da device...and if da pony was fitted wit dem steel rims (horsyshoes) no way that piece could've escaped.....
...mabe' neva happened....

the moral of the story is: dont take your note 3 on a donkey....
all this horsing around has given me headache....
The phone is good for upto 218lbs of direct pressure.....try it again after you horse and you have eaten.
