Anybody use the Panorama function yet? Pretty awesome if you ask me... I took this shot early morning, so the lighting was hard to deal with (plus I left it on auto, didn't turn it to daytime)... But you get the idea of how it really does mesh the 3 pictures very well.

New Touch Pro owners, I encourage you to test out this new feature and post some pictures up here. I'd be curious to see what people can be creative with.
That pic looks awesome for a phone, espcially being a panoramic shot. I cannot wait until I can order my Touch Pro on 29th August from Vodafone UK!
Thanks
Regards,
Neil
Wow
Can you post up some more different shots and a few test video samples? Just ordered mine - I hope the video quality is good enough via the tv-out.

You can't tell the quality of the video AT ALL because photobucket had to compress/convert it so much...

Looks a hell of a lot better than that on the device, needless to say. Also, the picture quality is on "Normal", it has a "Fine" and "Super Fine" mode but I'm not shooting for gold here so whatever.
From my Tilt actually but I do love the Pano mode nonetheless. I think this was a 6 shotter.

:O 6 shotter? I don't think you can go beyond 3 with the touch pro... Did the tilt come with that?
Nevermind, found the setting... WOW that's cool. The more I use this phone, the more impressed I become.

I think by default the 6 shotter only does 1mpxl but you can edit the Reg to allow 3mpxl 6shotter pano's. Essentially having an 18mpxl shot!
Heres a reg tweak from the Development and Hacking forum

Setting the capture delay to 0, enabling 6 MP Panorama Shots and setting the correct rotation - all tweaks from KaiserTweak and Advanced Config."

Nice, guys... just makes me want this phone even more.. (I'm pretty sure my mind is made up now. was going to be the X1, it just looks a whole load cooler, but the TP is definately the better phone.)
Tell me, if you would, are you having to move the camera as it takes the pics or does the camera itself have some kind of tracking system?

Neither. You take a picture, and it ghosts the right part of it on the left part of your screen... You move the camera to the right a little, match up the ghost image, and take another picture... Etcetcetc. Up to 6 times to lengthen the photo, and it digitally syncs it as well as it can.

Yeah. The kaiser has pretty good digital sync. I don't usually line it up because I don't have enough time to >.> so it's pretty good at finding it by itself
Shots full of trees make it very hard to tell how good it is. Try it across the front of a shopping center, or somewhere where there is a long line of "logical" things, like a long banner with letters / words, for lack of a better example. Or a long row of topless women.

Not really. The resolution is the same for a given focal length. Zooming in will have the same degradation.

Cheers. yeah, I can see a bit of blurring but I suppose it would ultimately decide on what you took a pic of. Nice feature, I think that about swings it for the TP, although.... the N96 can pick up UK digital terrestrial TV, 700 quid is a bit much though, I even baulk at the the price of the TP.
I'd like to see how it handles a more detailed background. you chose a perfect one, the garden, lots of green and the blurring just melts into the background.

I thought the button on the back of the phone was a flash, I guess I was wrong.. I mean, why would HTC put a camera flash in a $600 phone
Anyways, it's too late now, though.. Verizon is sending me my TP2 as a free replacement/upgrade to my Storm, which I've replaced 27 (not an estimate, a real number!) times in 3 months! So, I'll have to live with it either way.
For now, since I don't have mine yet, can someone take some pictures in different conditions (sunny, cloudy, dark, etc) and post them up in the highest resolution? Maybe host them on imageshack.us or something and post the link here if XDA doesn't allow large images?
I'm very interested in seeing how well/poor the camera is without a flash.
Thanks guys!

Hey here is a pic I took with my Touch Pro 2, I am on Sprint so therefor I have the Sprint version.
No modifications to the OS or camera. Pure Touch Pro 2 camera awesomeness:
I am surprised that a cell phone camera can achieve bokeh. It's pretty awesome. You can control many features including an auto iso mode which is neat because it limits to iso 800 so you dont have horridly grainy images. I shot that at iso 100 I believe. You can view the EXIF data for the info. The lens appears to be f/1.0 which would explain the awesome bokeh. It focuses really close.
Other options for taking pictures are the size, panoramic mode (pretty cool I guess), JPEG quality, Image Properties (sharpness, saturation, contrast) and a couple others.
Cam Mods...
I dunno if they'll work on the CDMA model.. but there a few post in the Tweaks listing: LINK

The 7MP tweak works great, and isn't slow at all!
I tweaked the registry per the tutorial, soft reset the phone, started it back up and snapped 1/3 panorama pics, got to the second one and got a Windows error.. tried again and the phone reset itself. Once it started back up I tried again and it worked great! I've taken 3 panoramic pics now, all were about 2.5-3MB, and I haven't gotten another error.

Maybe I'll post some stupid photos from my job later.
Here was a picture I took with my TP2 when I saw Taylor Swift on her tour last fall. At the time I had just gotten the phone the day before so this was the Sprint stock rom and I found out a week or so later that it was set to fine and not super fine which may have improved the quality even more... imo though I think the camera takes very nice pictures!
So earlier today, I was feeling rather experimental with my phone, not software wise, but hardware.
Earlier that week I saw a picture of and iphone with a homemade macro lens on it, so I was said to myself- If someone could do that to there Iphone and still hold it right, why cant I do that with my Nexus One? So I did.
It was a lot of trial and error, but eventually I got it, and took amazing pictures, beyond what I ever thought was possible with a phone.
To think our Nexus One's can take almost professional quality photos! I think you will be just as amazed with these pictures as I am .
Please note: These pictures were not edited in any way, just resized for your viewing pleasure!

I know what your thinking! "Hey how do I make one of those snazzy lenses for my super phone?" Well there are many different ways I am guessing, but I will tell you my technique!
Materials:
-Super Glue
-Thick Gauge Wire
-More super glue
-Scotch/Electrical tape
-Disposable camera lens
-Pliers
If you dont have any of these materials, your looking at about $25-$35 USD.
Procedure:
1. Jack the camera lens from a cheapy disposable camera (anyway works, just make sure you dont dink around with the lens).
2. Wrap wire around the lens
3. Super glue it to the wire so it stays
4. Let it dry
5. Bend the wire so the lens fits directly in front of the camera sensor
6. Make it stay on your phone
7. Wrap electrical/scotch tape around the wire to avoid damage to your beloved Nexus One.
8. Take it for a test.
Remember- a lot of trial and error, so be patient. Also, these are very brief instructions- so be creative.
I am not responsible for any damage done to your phone or Camera, or anything.
Here is how mine looks:
If you like my idea and use it and post it around without giving me acknowledgment or credit, then you are clearly a basement dwelling virgin man child. Just sayin'
Please post comments on your thoughts, or if you do it, upload some pics and tell what you did and how it went, cause I am just as curious as you

The colors are far too over saturated. The resulting photos are not at all accurate. I tried changing white balance, but they problem stayed. Is there some other setting? Is this problem software specific... in other words would a different ROM maybe fix it?

Yes, could that be the problem? I thought everyone looks at digital photos on PCs. FWIW the color problem persists on various PCs and on the phone itself.
To be honest, I think your photo proves the OP's point. I'm not saying it doesn't look great - it does; however, the colours are way over-saturated, meaning that while it looks nice, it does not look like a real or accurate represenation of the subject.

But unless that plant in the foreground is plugged into an outlet, there's no way that color can be accurate. Does it not look outrageously bright green to you?

Exactly. It looks "nice"... but the colors are way too intense.
Has anyone using a non-stock ROM noticed a difference?
Here's an example. The couch in this picture is a rather subdued maroon color. It does not glow like this in real life.
Yup. I just took a pic to confirm and its very noticeable. This is a big issue.
I find that if you into into the image adjustments and lower the saturation by 1, the colors are more accurate and natural. The photos are from my school and i think that just lowering the saturation it looks more natural
Looks like that does it, nice tip mate.

LOL indeed.
I'm comparing the photos from this to the photos of previous smart phones, like the Nexus One, G2 and several Samsung phones I've owned. All of these took better pictures with more accurate colors. The One S does have some nice features, like HDR and Low Light mode, but if the colors are all wrong, then it doesn't matter.
But it seems this may be lost on you. You're clearly struggling to understand the term 'smart phone'. My suspicion is that you, having little experience with the first half of the term have chosen to ignore it, and this is what has lead you to believe that a smart phone is 'just a damn phone.'
Relax man! Don't get so wound up! It's not the end of the world!

Actually, it's quite the opposite. I am very much aware about the 'smart' bit in 'smartphone' but I just think that no matter how you put it the camera on a 'smartphone' can never be included in the 'smart' bit.
You see, I am actually very much into photography and I do care quite a bit about the photo quality and that is why a phone no matter how 'smart' it is will never cut it for me - the quality is simply not there from the very start. There is no way to get the same quality from the tiny sensor and lens in a 'smart' phone as you would get from an SLR, even one with a 1.6 crop factor, and a proper set of lens.
So basically if you want your photos to look good then don't take them with a phone! While if you just want to point and shoot when you're out with your friends then I don't think the colour accuracy is that much of a big deal - you can always retouch them in Photoshop if you care that much. At the end of the day in a point and shoot situation you probably want to capture the moment and not so much to take an artistic photo.
I may well be wrong since the camera function on my 'smart' phone is one of the things I use the least. In my case, when I want to take good photos I make sure I have my SLR with me - I'd never leave it to the camera on my phone. That is not to say that the phone is not actually very smart indeed, don't get me wrong, it's just that I use all the other functions a hell of a lot more and I think that's what makes it really smart, not the silly camera...

I totally agree man! That's what I did! Mind you, I'm not a Nikon fan though, I like my Canon 550D a lot more!
You guys are totally missing the point. Photography is also a hobby of mine (I happen to be a Nikon fan) but that does not mean I can't expect that my new phone take pictures at least as good as a phone from FIVE years ago.
If the phone's calculator added one and one and came up with thirty three, would you tell me it's not a problem, and that I shouldn't be using a phone for a calculator?
What happened to this thread--
I will agree if the photos are VERY important, a phone may not be the way to go or take some photos before buying
On the other hand no need to lambast anyone
For this old man--I can only hope if someone takes a pic of me with my phone, it enhances me as well as it does the other photos it takes--
Just put this together on the Macrumors board. Even they seem to agree
iPhone 5 pictures will always be first in the series:
In these pictures you can see the iPhone 5s purple flare at the top. No matter how I tried to take the picture, it was always there. In a room with a lot of lights, its just going to happen sadly. The GS3 performed better here and more accurately.

Next up - Tennis ball. The tennis ball is not new, however, judging by the iPhone 5 picture, Apple wants to make old objects new again. Also, the counter top I am taking these on has a purpleish tint to it, so keep that in mind:
Anyone up for some coffee? The letters on dunkin should be a darker shade or orange to your eyes.. lets see how they did:
Next up - same ball, with flash:
Last but not least - a set of 2 outdoor pictures
So what do you think?? Which one is better to you?
Also a side note on the outdoors pictures - Both sets were taken at the same distance. The GS3 appears to get more in the picture than the iPhone... maybe its my eyes playing tricks on me - neither phone's zoom settings were touched.

Maybe the iphone is set to like 28mm while the S3 at 24mm (when compared on 35mm?)
I don't get how you guys are getting decent shots with the GS3. My pictures are just awful and almost always blurry in identical situations that my Rezound and iPhone are able to take excellent photos. I really hate the camera on this phone.
Maybe you dont have a steady hand? Turn anti-shake on?

Make sure the camera lens cover isn't smudged. If mine is, pictures look terrible, but if I wipe it off with my shirt and then take picture, it looks so much better.
Maybe. But it doesn't happen with any other camera, if that's the problem my hands would be shaky no matter what.
Quick and dirty comparison I did just now.

I love the pics on mine..Here is a sample of my lake house view from the back deck:
As you see it takes great pics..
My S3 takes both good and bad pictures. If I am holding it in just my hands, it usually takes not so good pictures. But when I us4 something solid to prop it against, it takes great pictures. But, that is the least of my gripes with this thing.
I just flashed the latest ROM five minuets ago and am finally getting thirty hours of battery time! This is sick!!
I take some okay pics

Nice picture and interesting landscaping - curious about the choice of what appears to be a birdbath in the center: that green expanse to the lake might appear even more like a welcoming path or inviting runway there without the visual breakup, I figure.

Honestly I think the iPhone 5 takes better pictures.
I have 2 lines on my plan...mine with my GS3 and the other person on my plan has an iPhone 5. I did my own comparison tests and found the iPhone 5 camera to be better every time. I love my GS3 and the camera is alright but... nothing beats my DSLR.
The S3 also seems to be really sensitive with shaky hands compared to my old Apple. This can easily cause blurrier pictures. Also, another thing is phone covers can really alter the flash...... I had to learn this this the hard way.
Good stuff here... Honestly to me both seem to be amazing cameras but it's nice to see there are significant differences. Maybe I'm bias

One thing I noticed with the iPhone is it gets surrounding detail a bit better, but its not as focused. On the iPhone I can focus on someone 15 feet away, but still read a paper that is in the photo just under the camera. On the GS3 it appears to overexpose it, and makes it illegible. Ill do a bit more testing, but it might only be an issue with white paper
I'm impressed with the macro on the S3

I think the iphone is always easier to take good pics with (for a phone anyway) for some reason.
You can hand an iphone to anybody, leave everything in the auto mode & most of their pics will be fine.
As far as the DSLR comment, I agree 100%, I am a pro photographer & I use a *Canon EOS 1D Mark 2/with all L lens* all day at work.
yeah my GS3 doesn't take pics nearly as well as my rezound......but thank god it's better than that terrible, awful nexus camera. *shudders*
Mine does good panos

Your focus is on your keys that's why only your keys look clear and everything else is blurry. Try focusing it something else, like the middle of the screen. Auto focus does that to me sometimes. Nothing a good finger poke on the screen doesn't fix.

Timelapse Pro
I downloaded an app called Timelapse Pro to help me become a pro at, umm... time-lapse. Yeah. Well, Timelapse Pro failed. It needs to be updated so that the Lumia 1020 can take full control. See the test for yourself:

Incredible pictures! I must say how jealous I am of you guys in the states as we have to wait till the end of next month for this device. I am currently a Samsung Galaxy S3 user and have never used a Windows Phone 8 phone, I have checked the apps I use and have decided that I am getting the 1020 when it's released here in Europe.
I am a former Android junkie, owned (Google nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Xperia S, HTC one X, Galaxy s3) and i jumped ship to Lumia 920 a month ago. I can still say with a smile on my face that thinking outside the box really helps, and i don't regret the change at all. Great device, great OS, great camera!! But Lumia 1020 has a breathtaking camera... It's now on my shortlist, and i will do whatever has to be done to get it when it will be released in Europe. Thaks for the pics, they really scream out loud that Lumia 1020 has by far the best mobile camera in the game...
I just bought LG Optimus G, but I'm sure that only when L1020 will come to my country (october probably) I'll buy it at day 1! I just fell in love with its camera.
Perfect quality and nice photos, dude!
Thanks for the comment guys! I hope you post your pics when you finally get your phones
lol

lol, that is indeed an airplay making a pretty wide turn, just looks sharp from a distance and sped up.

He's right. Even though it looked sporadic, it was actually going slow. The video rendered 30 pics a second so that thing was going SUPER slow in reality.
Just messing around to learn the manual controls
5 bracketed HDR photo taken with my Lumia 1020. A little blurry, I was holding it without a grip or tripod

A little low light test
I went outside tonight and pointed my Lumia 1020 straight up. I sat it on the edge of my deck so I wouldn't move it and it captured this. Mind you it's not the best photo ever but this blew me away. THIS IS ON A PHONE!!!!

That looks like the 5mp size file. This might not be the best camera for star pics with all the noise and streaking.
I shot this out my car window at a stop light. It might be the best photo I've ever taken, and it was with a PHONE!

...and also this sleepy boy. No flash, auto settings.
Wife and I stopped by a model home, then target, all pics taken on full auto. FYI, if you don't know the camera details:
6 element (5 plastic, 1 glass) F2.2 Zeiss lens, 41Mp multi-sampling sensor, LED flash for focus & Video, Zenon flash (same as real cameras) for pics & for more natural lighting.
Nice pics, guys! I have a few more low-light pics to share:
I hope you liked em'.
